Ted Nugent, who called Covid a hoax, now has Covid: ‘I thought I was dying’

I hate talking about people like Sarah Palin, Ted Nugent and Kid Rock unless it’s a story about how they suck, how they’re being called out for being terrible, or how they’re all lying, hypocritical grifters. Ted Nugent is objectively awful in every single way. He’s MAGA, he promotes deadly conspiracies and he obviously was one of those “Covid is a hoax” guys. I swear to God, I’m not going to research this AT ALL, I’m just going to assume that Ted Nugent said something, at some point, about how the Democrats invented Covid to hurt Donald Trump’s re-election. Well, fun story. Ted Nugent has Covid.

Rock musician Ted Nugent announced he has tested positive for the coronavirus in a Facebook live video in which he repeatedly used racist slurs to refer to COVID-19, spit on the floor and promoted anti-vaccine conspiracy theories.

“Everybody told me that I should not announce this,” the conservative rocker said in the video on Monday. Nugent, a staunch supporter of ex-President Donald Trump, previously called the pandemic a scam and has railed against public health restrictions.

“I have had flu symptoms for the last 10 days. I thought I was dying. I mean, just a clusterf–k,” Nugent said in the video. “I got the Chinese sh-t.”

Nugent said he had a “stuffed-up head” and “body aches.”

“My God, what a pain in the ass. I literally can hardly crawl out of bed the last few days. But I did, I crawled,” he said. Nugent said he was now quarantining. Still, he repeated his refusal to receive a COVID-19 vaccine ― a stance he first took last year in defiance of regulatory approvals and public health experts worldwide who have deemed the shots safe and effective.

“Nobody knows what’s in it,” Nugent said, falsely, in the Facebook live video. “If you can’t even honestly answer our questions of exactly what’s in it and why are you testing it on human beings and forcing it on people in such a short period of time?”

[From HuffPo]

A woman, who was dear friend of someone in my family, died of Covid a few months ago and she was a lot like this – a Trump-supporter who thought Covid was a hoax, who eschewed masks and traveled all over the place during the pandemic. Throughout the past fourteen months, it definitely feels like Covid comes extra-hard for those people. I’m struggling with what to say about Nugent in particular – I guess I’ll just leave it at “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.” Anyway, wear your mask and get the vaccine and don’t refer to Covid as the “China virus.”

What a piece of scum. That’s the nicest thing I can say.

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, this is a dude who ALLEGEDLY bragged about raping a 12 year old, wrote a song about gang-raping a 13 year old and adopted a teenager so he could have sex with her.

he’s called Obama and HRC all sorts of horrible things and has essentially threatened them and encouraged his fans to do the same.

he’s one of the worst people on this earth and if he died from COVID, people would clap and laugh.

      HAS. BEEN.

      • Pepperpot says:

        Gotdamn!!!!! That is disturbing!!

      • Drea says:

QAnon was right! Except the call was coming from inside the house all along…

      • janice tkach says:

your so right, I’d clap along with you. hope that bastard never tries to come back to Canada

      • Betsy says:

I forget the degree to which this guy is a terrible person until someone reminds me.

He is a really, really despicable human being. Just absolutely rock bottom. And yeah when he shuffles off this mortal coil, it will be a net benefit for the world.

    • local russian hill says:

selfish and typical. with no care of the consequences of his words.

  2. J ferber says:

Stupid asses will be stupid asses.

    • Still_Sarah says:

@ J Ferber : I teach English as a second language and I will be returning to China soon to work. Ironically China has this under control and it’s safe there. I have heard this from the x-pat friends who never left. And they have always worn masks due to air quality issues. Ted nudge to would be safer there.

  3. Tiffany says:

So I am having a dish called turkey tetrazzini for lunch. It is change for me since I have been doing turkey sandwiches on the regular for a minute now.

    I’ll see how this goes.

    So what y’all having?

    • Reece says:

      I’ve been craving grits lately.

      😂

    • Persephone says:

      Chicken soup for me.

    • Chicken Tetrazzini! says:

      good choice

    • Seraphina says:

I’m trying to eat healthier to lose this COVID weight.

    • Kate says:

I was doing turkey pitas with avocado for a few weeks to mix it up from turkey sandwiches. Just thawed out some beef chili for lunch today.

    • Kate B says:

I’m a pro-Turkey Tetrazzini person, but today all I could muster was some day-old bread and sliced Swiss cheese (microwaved for heat/melt).

      • Tiffany says:

The one I had was quite tasty and I am thinking of adding it to my food repertoire.

    • Giddy says:

Soft tacos! One of my favorite lunches. Guacamole, cheese, beans, and salsa in a freshly cooked flour tortilla make me so happy!

    • Booboocita says:

I’m working from home and too busy for cooking, so I had a box of Columbus prosciutto paninos. Prosciutto and provolone cheese roll ups. Not too bad, and I cleaned up by tossing the box out.

  4. Billie says:

    You were dying, dumbass.

  5. Noodle says:

My dad is a pretty conservative guy, and all his friends have similar political views. He was in a Bible study of 8 men. In November and December, four of those men died of COVID. They were all China-virus anti-maskers, they f***ed around, and they found out. My dad was devastated. Ever since then, he has been so much more educated and pro-mask, pro-social distancing. It’s said that it took the death of half of his friends for the message to be received, but it was. Now he and my mom are vaccinated and we hope we can see them more.

    • Natters5 says:

That is an incredibly sad story to hear, glad your dad came around, I’m sure it saved his life. Luckily for me even though my dad is/was a Trumper (he won’t discuss him now) he always believed in masking up and quarantining because he really cares for people and their health. In my family we all are vaccinated now except for my brother and his wife who are saying that they heard the vaccine will effect their future unborn children. Even though we have provided countless articles to disprove this to them they prefer to hang on to the baseless nonsense they just happened to have heard. We are all planning to just exclude them from any family activities for now to show them that their ridiculous actions have consequences.

    • Drea says:

Glad it came out that way for you and your dad is alive. I know a guy who’s own father died of Covid, and he’s still refusing to wear a mask or get vaccinated, and thinks he’s immune or probably already had it, a few times. Sometimes conspiracy runs deeper than blood. Stupidity definitely just runs in it.

    • lucy2 says:

I’m really sorry your father lost so many friends, but glad it opened his eyes to what he needed to do. Good they are vaccinated.
My dad and his friends all like trump. It makes me sick, and I have had sobbing breakdowns over it, but oddly enough they were all first in line when the vaccine became available. A couple of them got covid over the winter, I’m shocked it didn’t go through the whole group.

  6. Lauren says:

A friend of my father has covid and has had a fever for like 15 days already. He was one of those never paying attention and saying that it was a hoax. Call me a heartless btch, but I laughed so hard when I heard the news. I have been careful since the pandemic started, very limited contact with friends, at work I wore a mask and was always washing my hands, I don’t leave my house unless I absolutely have to and this guy was just living his merry life like nothing was happening and we were all idiotic sheep because we were listening to health official recommendations. It is what it is.

  7. Emm says:

Unfortunately for my maga family the people who have gotten it have claimed it was just like the flu and moved on. One said that he has never felt this terrible before but, still goes to the gym and doesn’t wear a mask. They are still fully maga and fully conspiracy theorists.

    • sassafras says:

The MAGA person in my family who caught Covid from a TRUMP EVENT said it was like a sinus infection and shrugs it off. Infuriating, but over time I think we will surely see Covid continue to march across MAGA country and do its thing. Science and nature are immune to conspiracy theories.

      • Emm says:

Let’s hope so. Idk, I really dislike wishing people unwell but I am at that point with this. All of these so called “Christians” who are also the most selfish people I’ve ever met who can’t do one simple thing to help others. It’s so offensive and insulting to the people in countries like Brazil and India who are suffering that these asshats don’t take advantage of the privilege that they have in getting a vaccine right now. How they all still think this is fake when those other countries are suffering so much is beyond my comprehension. My family has dug in their heels and won’t budge an inch for us so why should we for them? We are now fully vaccinated but don’t plan on seeing them anytime soon.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Emm : those people are not Christians IMO. I am a Christian and I am a firm believer in masks 😷, social distancing and whatever my public health unit tells me to do. My church is strictly following social distancing rules.

  8. Jlmm says:

I’ve always been surprised that that Taylor Swift song didn’t get big (especially before the 2020 elections). I think the title was “American Glory”?

One of my favourite from that album.

    • Riley says:

Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince. One line goes “American glory fading before me, I’m feeling hopeless… My team is losing, battered and bruising, I see the high fives between the bad guys, leave with my head hung”

    • Chicken says:

WTF does Ted Nugent getting COVID have to do with Taylor Swift? Was it the “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” reference?

  9. LarkspurLM says:

    #GFY, Ted.

  10. Spanky says:

Biologist here. Of course Pfizer and Moderna know what’s in the vaccine. It’s a weakened form of the virus in a liquid carrier. They know what’s in that vaccine down to the microliter level. As for Ted’s claim that no one can explain why it’s being “forced on so many people in such a short period of time”, uhh…..because Covid is a deadly disease? Because at this time last year in NYC, where I live, 800 people a day were dying from it? The bodies were piling up in refrigerated trucks parked outside the hospital. I have a MAGA acquaintance who recently told me that she’s not getting vaccinated because “this is a regular flu, just like any other flu”. She lives in NYC and seems to forget about the bodies in the trucks. Oh, and then she started telling me that Trump is planning a coup and the “militia” is going to take over. Okay, skippy.

    • Drea says:

Ummm. As a biologist, shouldn’t you know that neither Pfizer nor Moderna are weakened forms of the virus?

      • whatWHAT? says:

was thinking the same thing. it’s the protein that the virus uses to get into the cells, isn’t it?

      • Drea says:

        @WHATWHAT?

That’s more accurate, but not quite that. It’s messenger RNA that tells your cells to build that protein. Which makes the virus think that cell is already infected. Its pretty genius technology, and if proven, will create wild possibilities in disease care as a whole.

What I haven’t found is if they first made this mRNA by cutting off pieces or live, attenuated, or inactivated viruses, but I’m sure they don’t want to give out that info. The mRNA itself is relatively easy and quick to reproduce.

      • Jaded says:

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines contain an mRNA sequence taken from the virus itself; it causes cells to manufacture the big “spike” protein of the coronavirus, which the pathogen uses to glom onto a person’s cells and gain entry thereby destroying the covid virus.

      • Miss D says:

Thank you Drea. same goes for J and J vaccine as well.

      • Elizabeth says:

J&J doesn’t use mRNA (messenger RNA, a technology that delivers a bit of genetic code to cells). Pfizer and Moderna do use mRNA.

The J&J vaccine is a viral vectored vaccine. It uses a harmless adenovirus — from a large family of viruses, some of which cause common colds — to deliver the code to cells to train the body to fight off COVID-19.

In my understanding, *none* of these vaccines uses a live form of the virus at all.

  11. Jackie says:

My mom is literally fighting for her life with Covid, hers being a breakthrough case. IDGAF about Ted Nugent and other morons like him. I don’t feel sorry for them in the least.

    • sassafras says:

I’m so sorry that she is going through this.

    • nicegirl says:

Praying for your mom, Jackie. Love

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Jackie, I am so sorry for you and your family. I hope she pulls through. My thoughts are with you and her loved ones.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

I”m sorry Jackie. Your mom does not deserve this.

    • Jaded says:

Sending prayers for her healing Jackie!

      • Jackie says:

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. My mom was placed back on a ventilator yesterday and before that had even happened, they had wanted to talk to me and my brother about how aggressive to be and exploring other options, meaning hospice care. I am not good.

    • Betsy says:

My thoughts are with you, Jackie.

    • Giddy says:

I’m so sorry for your heartache, Jackie. I’ll be praying for you and your Mom to both find the strength you need during this terrible time. Take good care of yourself.

    • Emm says:

Oh @jackie I’m so so sorry to see this. Hoping for you and your brother that she pulls through soon.

    • Stacy Dresden says:

Jackie I am so sorry about your mother. Hoping for a recovery.

  12. Kim says:

I’m sorry – maybe you all are to young to remember this, but why is anyone listening to someone who’s claim to fame was a song called Cat Scratch Fever??

    • Who ARE These People? says:

My daughter actually had that (Bartonella henselae), it’s a vector-borne disease and not only from cat scratches. It took a blood test to figure out what was wrong with her; not all cases are mild.

Wish I didn’t have that stupid song run through my head once we knew.

  13. Beth says:

    No sympathy for that pedophile!

  14. Peanut says:

    Good.

  15. salmonpuff says:

My 78-year-old father who nearly died of a heart attack following a bout of H1N1 is refusing the vaccine, as is my mother, who is a bit younger and in better health. They’re also anti-maskers and have been socializing as normal. I’m a bit surprised they haven’t come down with it yet, but it’s really just a matter of time. It’s infuriating because people like Ted Nugent and my parents will keep this virus circulating for much longer than necessary.

It’s been really difficult dealing with them during the pandemic in general. They’re so mad at me and my kids for following the recommendations and being cautious. I doubt our relationship will ever recover.

    • Emm says:

We are in the exact same position. With my in laws more then my parents but I was never too fond of my inlaws and now I think we are at the point of no return. We don’t plan on visiting them at all anytime soon, we hardly communicate at all anymore and they won’t get vaccinated or stop going out and being morons for two week to come see us. Haven’t seen them since just before Christmas 2019 and it’s been nice. My mom has continuously been exasperated with the caution we’ve been taking but at least her and my dad got the j&j before it was paused. By the way we also have a child with complex medical needs and these people (my child’s grandparents, uncles and aunts) still dgaf. They claim they understand why we have been so cautious but their actions do not show that in anyway.

    • nutella toast says:

@salmonpuff and @emm. Me too. My Dad refuses to speak to me and changed churches so he could go to one that allowed everyone to act like nothing is happening (after attending the other for 74 years). THEN he flew to Brazil for three weeks unvaccinated and unmasked and travelled everywhere and came home a few days ago feeling good about himself. He’s hasn’t gotten sick (neither has his wife) and I’m…honestly kinda hoping he does so he sees what a selfish jerk he is. Obviously I don’t want to lose him but my brother and I are terrified that my Dad is going to be the start of a Brazilian variant plague here. He has said he will never get vaccinated and I can’t accommodate that just so he doesn’t yell at me.

      • Emm says:

Holy crap! That’s so so irresponsible and dangerous to not only himself but anyone he comes in contact with. Geeez, why why why?? I’m so sorry you also have a crappy parents like a lot of us. I really hope he hasn’t brought that Brazilian variant back to his community.

    • salmonpuff says:

@emm and @nutellatoast It’s nice to have company in the “My Parents Are Buttheads” club…but I’m sorry you’re experiencing this too! Meanwhile, I’m researching holiday trips so I can just avoid their nonsense altogether at Thanksgiving…

  16. Sid says:

Vile man. He became the legal guardian of his underage “girlfriend” so he could marry her. VILE MAN!

    • MM2 says:

And it wasn’t to marry her for romantic reasons, it was so the rape was legal. Vile is the perfect word for him.

  17. lucy2 says:

I do not wish it on anyone, but I don’t have much sympathy for those who made the situation worse, which is what racist morons like Nugent have done, and then cry about it when they get it.

  18. Mrs. Smith says:

Well, if you don’t get vaccinated, then you’re going to get COVID. It’s that simple, as Ted now knows. He’s lucky to be alive. When he catches it the next time (and he will) it might not turn out so well. I know a few people who refuse to get the vaccine and it makes me sad. The scariest part of this disease is that you do not know what it will do to you on an individual level. You might beat it, or it might end your life. Why take that chance?? Will these same people refuse the mRNA cancer treatments too??

    • nutella toast says:

@Mrs. Smith I’ve been saying to people “Do you know what’s in your blood pressure meds? Your heart meds? Did you make them yourself? No? Then it’s a ridiculous argument to say “I don’t know what’s in them”. Unless you’re a biologist or any number of scientific classifications, even if you had a list of ingredients you wouldn’t know what you’re looking at anyway. Either give up all your other meds including Tylenol (cuz’ you don’t know what that is either) or stop saying “We don’t know what’s in it”. You probably don’t know what’s in your Big Mac either, but you eat it.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

And if you can get vaccinated and don’t, you don’t contribute to the herd immunity necessary to protect people who can’t get vaccinated (for health reason) or can’t produce good levels of antibodies due to health status, immuno-suppressive medications, being a tiny little baby, etc.

  19. Midge says:

I hope he dies next time his unvaccinated ass gets it

  20. GreenEyes says:

Kaiser.. my mom wore a mask and was as careful as possible. Too late it was found out nieces that tested positive 2 days later were at my moms and took off their masks in her kitchen to do selfie’s and visit after she had gone to bed. Their selfies on FB scared my mom.. when my nieces showed symptoms 2 days later and tested positive, my mom and I were scared for her. Sure enough she got sick 8 days later. Within a 2 month period her body became engulfed by blood clots all over, her bodily functions shut down, her lungs irreversibly damaged, skin falling off all over from weeping, 2 strokes, a brain aneurysm, and a month on a ventilator later we had to make the hardest decision of all.. to turn off her life support. It was the hardest thing as the oldest child I ever had to do.. and it killed me to do this knowing the nieces that I love were outside her room crying that grandma was dying.. and I wanted to yell at them
So badly had they only kept on their masks ans stayed home if they knew they felt off.

Yet I know complete utter imbeciles that still think Covid is a joke because they have gone maskless the entire time and the worst they got was like a severe flu. I don’t wish harm or death to anyone.. but there are those ignorant souls that will never see it as a killer virus until
It kills them or someone near.. sadly I’ve seen the ones get hit the worst that did all they could.. but it was brought to them unknowingly. I guess I am a bit bitter at times and not wearing masks is a touchy thing with me. Guys like skeevy Ted will
Down play it after a while. What does he care..

    • nutella toast says:

@green Eyes I’m so, so sorry for your loss.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ GreenEyes, I am utterly heartbroken for you. I am so, so sorry that you had to endure this tragedy. Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathy to you and your family.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Oh, this is so sad and enraging at the same time. Sympathies for your loss, and your mother’s suffering. Those nieces will be living with the guilt for the rest of their lives. Please people, only half the US has been fully vaccinated, please continue not getting together inside.

    • Lady D says:

I’m sorry GreenEyes, truly sorry. I don’t know how you are so strong, I wish you didn’t have to be.

  21. BothSidesNow says:

I have unfortunately seen first hand how these MAGATS are such vile people. My husband is a retina specialist that never closed the office due to the fact that people would lose their eyesight. The utter disregard and refusal to follow basic rules and protections during the past 15 months is disgusting. These MAGATS refuse to follow the rules, wear a mask diligently and their utter disregard for the health and well being of everyone else is disgusting and vile. The staff is cussed out on a daily basis and their utter disregard for the lives of others has shown how truly vile and disgusting these people truly are. He sees about 50 patients a day and the number of these incidents are so horrific that we have had staff crying from their verbal abuse. No one should have to suffer from the vile actions of these bottom dwellers and the verbal and physical abuse is harmful. The fact that they treat those on the front lines is just as harmful and unacceptable. I had never wished ill-will on people before but I don’t care what happens to these people anymore. To top it off, they don’t believe that the rules apply to them and they place everyone around them at risk.

    • Betsy says:

Can he drop them as patients since they pose a legitimate threat to the health and safety (and mental health) of his staff and other patients?

    • moo says:

Many office have mask policies. No mask, no entry.
One doctor I know has zero tolerance: If mask is half-off when doctor enters room, patient is required to leave. That doc’s office makes the policy VERY clear, so no one can say they didn’t know they’re not allowed to half-ass their mask coverage.

    • Giddy says:

I go to an oncologist’s office for iron infusions for my anemia. Their website says masks must be worn, and a sign entering the parking garage says masks must be worn. But if anyone is still planning on protesting wearing one, this sign right by the office entrance evidently does the trick: “Any patient entering this office without a mask will have their appointment canceled, and will need to find a new oncologist. Thank you.”

  22. Kkat says:

Well if he makes it through the virus , there is still hope the disgusting pos will keel over from the many secondary issues from it

  23. EliseM says:

Nobody knows what’s in it? OMG! What a complete F**ing idiot.

    • Midge says:

I work at a vaccination POD. We have a list of ingredients so that we can counsel patients on possible allergic reactions. . You can google the list of ingredients.

  24. Izzy says:

My thoughts and prayers are with COVID-19, which contracted a nasty case of Nugent.

    • Seraphina says:

Izzy, thank you for the laugh. Much needed (as always). for if I can’t laugh at the current state of affairs, I may have to cry. And I would much rather laugh.

  25. faithmobile says:

My mother is a nurse who is antivaxx. She told me the US has reached heard immunity already. Oh and she’s she is a liberal progressive but everything she says sounds like maga conspiracy theories. It’s so exhausting having a conversation with her now that she sounds like Ted eFing Nugent.

    • moo says:

I know a non-physician healthcare provider who insists we must not fear the virus, masks are government intrusion to control us, and magical theories about vaccine danger (another gov’t intrusion according to to her). I commented that so many people have died and she shot back that “it’s mainly older people!” She is solidly elderly…the hypocrisy is stunning.

  26. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

This was meant to post in Tiffany’s thread lol.

I had pork loin tenderloin with tons of garlic. Air pressured it then air-fried it for some crispy skin. That’s all I wanted. Meat. 😁

  27. Leah says:

A family member just passed on from covid last week. Her son is lying about it and calling it “pneumonia”, but she went into the hospital two weeks or so ago not being able to breathe after fracturing her foot. She recieved the vaccine but had been running around without a mask, the vaccine doesn’t take the variants into account. My mother has told me she’s not attending the funeral which I think is the right choice, just send flowers.

So tired of these covid deniers and liars. They are doing the world a disservice.
