Chrissy Teigen says Duchess Meghan contacted her & was ‘wonderful & so kind’

Model Chrissy Teigen wearing a Georges Hobeika dress arrives at the 2019 Baby2Baby Gala held at 3Labs on November 9, 2019 in Culver City, Los Angeles, California, United States.

There are certain people in the Duchess of Sussex’s life who adore her and stand up for her and have her back. Some of those people have their own self-centered agendas though, like Jessica Mulroney and now Chrissy Teigen. Chrissy knows Meghan but I don’t think they’re BFFs or anything, it’s more like they met professionally years ago and have one of those LA friendships. This week, Chrissy chatted on the Watch What Happens Live after-show about how Meghan contacted her last year after Chrissy lost her baby Jack. It would have been shortly after Meghan miscarried too. Chrissy didn’t make a meal out of this, which surprised me.

Chrissy Teigen has a royal supporter — Meghan Markle. The cookbook author, 35, said Tuesday that she and the Duchess of Sussex have connected multiple times, but Markle — who suffered a miscarriage last summer — first reached out to her after losing her son Jack last year.

“Yeah, she’s been so kind to me ever since we connected,” Teigen said in response to a fan question during the Watch What Happens Live! after show. “She had written me about baby Jack…. but yeah she is really wonderful and so kind — just as kind as everyone says she is… That’s why you look at everything and you’re like ‘My god, what is absolutely wrong with people that they have to make this person out to be so malicious or so crazy?’ when it’s just as simple as them being as kind as everyone says they are.”

Teigen added that she also spoke to Markle, 39, after her and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last month.

“I think when I ended up watching it, it was like ‘Holy s— this is big,” Teigen said, adding: “But also I waited a long time to watch it, so I’d already heard so much about it.”

WWHL host Andy Cohen asked if Markle had shared any “extra tea” during their conversation, but Teigen denied learning anything that wasn’t shared with the public. “No. I think she’s been very honest [and] open,” she said. “I think her truth has been her truth since the very beginning.”

Teigen — who first encountered Markle when the two appeared on the game show Deal or No Deal together — has come to her defense several times over the past few years. Last month, Teigen spoke out when Markle was accused of bullying palace staff members when she was a working member of the royal family. “this meghan markle s— is hitting too close to home for me,” Teigen tweeted. “these people won’t stop until she miscarries. f—— stop it.”

It’s nice that Meghan contacted her and that they’ve spoken a few times. It’s even nicer that Chrissy hasn’t been giving us minute-by-minute updates when Meghan contacts her. I would hope that most people in contact with the Sussexes will avoid dishing on them, even if it’s nice stuff like “Meghan is a lovely person.” Still, it was probably cathartic for both women to be able to talk to each other about miscarriage and loss when they were both going through it last year.

Chrissy never really talks about her celebrity friendships so it’s not very surprising she hasn’t made a “meal” out of this. Her brand is more cooking and her own family.

    • Eleonor says:

She is very discreet actually, I think she knows everything she says can hurt her brand and her husband image.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah she doesn’t name drop really so I’m not surprised we haven’t heard about this before, especially if it was about something as personal as the loss of a child/pregnancy.

I do like hearing that Chrissy reached out to her after the interview. that tells me that while they may not be BFFs, there is a mutual sense of looking out for each other.

  2. Snuffles says:

I’m not surprised Meghan contacted her. I’m also not surprised Chrissy can keep her mouth shut. The main person she talks about endlessly is HERSELF. HER kids, HER husband, HER mother, HER pets, HER business ventures.

She is perfectly capable of keeping friendships and family relationships quiet.

    • Watson says:

It actually is perfect. In this case she keeps her celebrity friendships with the Obama’s, Biden’s, Beyonce etc locked without exposing anyone but herself.

  3. Amy Bee says:

What can I say, I’m not a Chrissy Teigen fan but the more vocal support that Meghan has, the better.

  4. Cecilia says:

It isn’t really surprising that she hasn’t made “meal” out of this and i think even chrissy knows she needs to be careful when talking about meg. She’s likely seen the vitriol thrown at this woman.

Anybody else notice how everybody that has met and worked with meghan constantly says the same thing? She’s kind

  5. Woke says:

More and more of those stories about other celebrities meeting/having contact with Meghan will come out with everything going back to normal and Meghan starting to be more in the public. I hope those celebrities just know what to say and don’t share too much.

  6. Noki says:

Jessica royally screwed up with her drama last year. But in terms of being Meghans true friend I believe she was. They were friends for years ,way before Meghan had any royal connections and she is the one who helped her settle in Canada. Out of all the famous original friendships without an agenda i think its Jessica.

  7. Becks1 says:

I agree with others that I think we are going to start seeing more and more celebs mention Meghan either casually or share a direct story about her. I think that’ll be due to a combination of things – Archewell getting off the ground and H&M getting out and about post baby and (hopefully) post pandemic, they’re going to be invited to a lot of the big Hollywood events and people in Hollywood are going to know them. I also think it’s a testament to how big they are right now. Celebs in Hollywood WANT to know them and they are going to want people to know that they know them. “oh yes Meghan is wonderful I just shot her a text to see how she was doing.” These aren’t going to be the people who go on morning shows to defend them, they’re just going to be part of their larger circle and network.

    • Snuffles says:

Same. A soft re-entry onto the public scene, Hollywood style. She’s probably been quietly networking behind the scenes as well.

Maybe she and Chrissy have something cooking up. 😉 I could easily see them both doing something for World Central Kitchen in the future.

  8. Sofia says:

I dislike Chrissy but this was a nice story to share. I guess she could have said more but didn’t is a good sign at least.

  9. Myra says:

Meghan is a sweetheart. Her charismatic personality makes it easy for her to befriend just about anyone. I’m sure people end up walking away from her thinking they are besties after just one conversation. Sounds like she made a friendly gesture but it doesn’t mean they are great or close friends. There’s also not much for Chrissy to reveal, if Meghan didn’t really share anything.

  10. MsIam says:

So much for the “Meghan is a nobody who only knows people through Harry” mantra. Those royal snobs are the only ones who think their shit matters. They don’t want to come out of that bubble and find out how irrelevant they really are.

    • MA says:

That line is always so puzzling because all the married ins were nobodies before becoming royals. Meghan was actually a “somebody” before marrying Harry millions of people knew her worldwide from Suits and she had millions of followers on social media.

  11. Chelsea says:

Chrissy is a complicated case because she followed Janettk who made those awful posts about Meghan on IG but she has publicly defended Meghan multiple including in 2018 when she called out Toxic Tom on Twitter for his constant public abuse of Meghan. The fact that there have been no leaks about their newer connection in 2020 and that she played her cards close to the vest here when asked about tea is lightening some of my skepticism and im glad she actually did share what she did because it’s good for the people who actually know Meghan to talk about the good person she is when so many in the press and palaces have tried to destroy her reputation.

I honestly cant say im surprised that Meghan privately reached out; we’ve seen her time and time again use her own loss and struggles to empathize with others who have gone through similar things. That’s literally what The Losses We Share Op-Ed that she wrote in the NY Times was for. It’s remarkable tbh and i agree with Chrissy that it’s crazy that the British press has tried so damn hard to paint this woman as a menace when she literally had a stellar reputation before she stepped onto Shutter Island.

  12. Commonwealthy sounded witty at first says:

Everyone* who’s actually met and interacted with Meghan, pre- and post-Harry speaks about her in the same way: she’s sweet and kind, and they seem shocked that anyone could say or believe otherwise.

*aside from palace staff and her in-laws, who are not disinterested parties

  13. L4frimaire says:

Teigen is indiscreet, dramatic and messy. However, when she lost that baby, I really felt for her, especially since I had placenta previa and heavy bleeding during my 2bd pregnancy. Those images were so raw. Considering that Meghan had her own miscarriage that summer, how could she not feel sympathetic and reach out to her. As for how well they know each other, that’s their business and seems like it wouldn’t have happened without this common bond but who knows. Hollywood is a small town so people know each other.

    • Dani says:

I have never enjoyed Chrissy Teigen’s over the top public persona. However, after losing our baby at 21 weeks gestation (in the same hospital, several weeks after Teigen’s loss) I have a new-found sympathy for her.

    • Watson says:

They were both on Deal or No Deal so it’s very likely they were loose work acquaintances who kept in touch over the years. But Chrissy is hilariously good at keeping her friendships on lockdown so we will most likely never know.

  14. Holly says:

“these people won’t stop until she miscarries.” ah and there it is. Chrissy blames Twitter for her miscarriage.

    • Kfg says:

No Chrissy doesn’t blame Twitter for Jack’s stillbirth. She blames herself for his loss. All of us who go through it do.

    • L4frimaire says:

I saw that tweet and didn’t get that impression she blamed Twitter for her pregnancy loss. Earlier in her pregnancy, she tweeted that this pregnancy felt different and she felt more fragile. I think she felt that nasty social media after the interview could stress Meghan to miscarriage, especially knowing what she went through in first and losing her second.
