Caitlyn Jenner really will try to run for governor of California & she’s hired Trumpers

Elton John Oscar Viewing Party 2020

Caitlyn Jenner is a country-club Republican. She believes in golf and low taxes and protecting her own very narrow interests and no one else’s. I remember watching her E! series I Am Cait and being shocked at her political ignorance and self-absorbed privilege. She also supported Donald Trump through everything, through his Nazism, his family separations at the border, his Russian collusion, his lies and his delusion, and she only “stopped” supporting him when the Trump administration went full-throttle transphobia. And even then, it turns out that she still pretty much supports everything having to do with Trump and Trumpism. As we heard in early April, Caitlyn has been weighing a run for governor of California. Now it looks like she’s really going to do it, and she’s hired a whole lot of Trumpers to help her.

Former Olympic decathlete and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner on Friday officially announced her bid for governor of California. Jenner, a longtime Republican, is seeking to replace Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a recall election, hoping her celebrity status and name recognition can yield an upset in the nation’s most populous state.

But in deep-blue California, she’s decidedly not branding herself as a Trump Republican even as she’s counting on some of the former president’s advisers to drive her strategy. She’s assembled a team of prominent GOP operatives including Tony Fabrizio, the top pollster on Donald Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns, Ryan Erwin, founder of RedRock Strategies, and Tyler Deaton, president of Allegiance Strategies. She’s also hired Steven Cheung, a former Trump White House and campaign communications hand who worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s successful 2003 recall campaign. Trump’s former campaign manager Brad Parscale, a personal friend of Jenner’s, has helped her assemble her team but doesn’t plan to take an official title on the campaign.

Jenner said in a statement that “Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision” and that “for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people.” The statement decries California’s taxes as “too high” and criticizes an “over-restrictive lockdown” response to the COVID pandemic including on in-person schooling. “This is Gavin Newsom’s California, where he orders us to stay home but goes out to dinner with his lobbyist friends.”

A campaign adviser tells Axios that Jenner has greater name ID than Newsom and can command the kind of earned media that “will go to every possible demographic you could think of.”

Jenner, a trans woman, “is very socially liberal,” the adviser said. “She’s running as someone that’s socially liberal and fiscally conservative.” Jenner’s team is convinced that the race is “totally winnable,” but recent polling shows the scale of the challenge. A statewide survey this month had support for recalling Newsom at just 40 percent.

[From Axios]

I’m so glad my state doesn’t have recalls. No, my state just had a sitting Republican governor – the last Republican to hold state-wide office – get indicted on federal corruption charges. From what I’ve heard from the Democratic Party operators in California, Gov. Newsom isn’t super-popular among organizers and Dem officials, but he’s also gotten a lot of blame for sh-t that was out of his control, like the pandemic. I tend to think Newsom is kind of a lightweight too, but Californians will likely stick with him rather than throw Sacramento into political chaos just for Caitlyn’s quixotic political run. While Caitlyn does have big name recognition, she’s also an a–hole and most Republicans don’t even like her. Besides, she doesn’t even want to spend the time doing this bullsh-t. She’s 71 years old and she’d rather be golfing. Those Trumpers she hired must be delusional to think this is going to work.

Lol does she not know that Trumpers hate the trans community? Does she not see what they’re doing to trans kids and families in Texas? So stupid.

    • Trix says:

I don’t think she cares. She should see if Melanie will lend her a certain coat for her campaign trail…

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, I don’t even know where to begin with the cognitive dissonance of a supposed trans activist as a Republican with Trumpers as her advisers. And being personal friends with Parscale? WTAF? I really hope this notion crashes and burns, soon.

      • Escondista says:

She faces very few issues that the trans community does – she will never worry about getting a job, being able to afford medical treatments, having a comfortable safe home, being accepted by her community. She is so far removed from a life of struggle that she cannot possible govern for those that live that life.

      • Anne Call says:

She and the team are doing this for increased visibility and grifting opportunities. She hasn’t even voted consistently in the last decade and knows nothing about policy issues or running the 5th largest economy in the world. A joke, just a step up from Gary Coleman being on the ballot in the last recall. We have the lowest rate of covid in the nation right now, economy is roaring back and everyone will be in school next fall. A staggering waste of time and money for the state. Will further erode the gop brand in California.

      • Jax says:

        Interesting

    • Me says:

This campaign is just a grift fir $$$—she’s not for anything except selling merch.

      • Bevvie says:

I was thinking that Brad Pasquale and other Trumpers are into her for the grift. Take her money and run. She doesn’t stand a chance.

    • Laugh or Cry says:

While I do agree with your statement, what the Trump administration made I thought visible to everyone is white supremacy trumps everything. It is their god that must be held up at whatever the cost. The vessel doesn’t matter as much as long as you keep that evil construct in place.

      • Jax says:

“The vessel doesn’t matter as much as long as you keep that evil construct in place.”

True. Although I’d say the vessels don’t matter if you keep the evil constructs in place .

    • Christine says:

I live in LA, am a Democrat, and I fully support the LGBTQ community. I won’t vote for her, because she has so much money, and has always been privileged, she doesn’t understand a millisecond of the lives of the LGBTQ in LA, or elsewhere. This feels like she’s angling for a tax break, for herself, she doesn’t want to champion anyone. Only money.

I am not a little bit into Gavin Newsom, or Eric Garcetti, after the past 14 months (but I did vote for them, full disclosure. They looked like shiny gems, back then), but I will vote for either of them over Caitlyn hiring Trumpers, to espouse her cause. GTFO.

There is still a drop in ballot box, at the end of the next block, that Trump believes lost him the election, because of whatever. I am too old to be into the Kardashians, but it baffles me a bit that Caitlyn, after ALL THAT TIME with them, seems to be unable to buy a clue. Much less make a post on Instagram that makes her a lot of money, just because people apparently really care about her family.

    • Juju says:

She lived the majority of her life as a privileged white man and still reaps all the benefits from that. She doesn’t care.

  2. MrsRobinson says:

CA’s vaccine rollout has been great, which has slowed significantly the momentum of this recall.
Newsom is legit, he does his homework. His personal life can be distracting, though.
CA is like two states—there’s a deep red stripe down the Central Valley and in spots like Orange County. Those are the same spots that voted down gay marriage years ago. It’d be surprising to see support for a trans candidate.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

According to CNN yesterday, we have an under 1% transmission rate, and we’re the highest in the country for vaccinations. I think we’re doing pretty well, all things considered.

I don’t follow the Koven, but someone in my Twitter feed wrote that Jenner admitted on the show that PMK balances her checkbook because she is “hopeless” at it. Now, she wants to balance the CA budget? Mhmmm. Pull the other one.

As for Jenner… I have to think this is another Kanye stunt. Pure ego.

      • Tom says:

A desperate attempt to remain relevant.

There will be a film crew following her, probably from E! for a reality series.

      • Jennifer M says:

This is what I think, too. Pure “look at meeeeeee!” 🙄 No thanks

  3. Paperclip says:

Jenner was never the sharpest knife in the drawer…ugh.

  4. Brittany says:

This makes me want to vomit. Brad Parscale!!! Lowest of the low.

This is reminding me of when Kanye ran, employing Trumpers and shady practices, opposing abortion rights.

Our country is a wreck. Caitlyn cares about trans rights but about NOTHING ELSE? I know she’s had a very privileged life, especially recently thanks in large part to Kris and the show, but wow!!!

    • Lightpurple says:

Parscale allegedly misspent Trump campaign monies on himself so good luck with that, Caitlyn!

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Embezzled to the tune of $40 MILLION from the campaign funds. Isn’t he facing charges from that arrest??

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

She’s friends with Parscale (gross), so she knows the campaign is a grift. I don’t think Cait’s bright enough to know she’s also being used as a Russian chaos agent & that the campaign will likely be a vehicle for money laundering.

  5. Snuffles says:

Sounds like pure vanity to me. Does she have nothing else to occupy herself with?

    • Yup, Me says:

Probably not. And the only reason she’s had ANY semblance of business to mind (or money to mind for that matter) for the last 20 years is because of Kris Jenner.

If KRIS was running, I’d say we should pay attention or be concerned. Caitlyn has proven herself to be useless and ineffective for all the years she’s been on the scene. She’s just killing time and hoping to coast on her name.

      • cassandra says:

Imagine what Kris Jenner could get done if she were politically minded…

      • Monica says:

« Imagine what Kris Jenner could get done if she were politically minded… »

::holds up cross and garlic, throws salt over shoulder, turns around three times and spits::

      • Juniper says:

Shhhh. Don’t let that get out into the universe! Monica’s got the right idea.

  6. EllenOlenska says:

I doubt the trans community will vote for her. And her Trumpy Republican friends deep down despise her…so not really sure who her voting block is?

    • Heat says:

I agree. I’ve read several articles that state that the LGBTQ+ community does not support Caitlyn Jenner and actually feel that she hurts their cause. Many believe that she trivializes trans issues and has no touch in reality when it comes to the challenges they face.
Also, not only did she support Trump on numerous occasions, she also supported Ted Cruz.
While I’m 100% supportive of and happy to see transgender faces in the political arena, Caitlyn Jenner just isn’t one of them.

      • MsGnomer says:

I am a member of the California LGBTQ+ community, and I hate that this grift is happening. I said it before, and Ill say it again: Caitlyn Jenner is not a public servant.

Her position to me is incredulous. Some one please make her watch PSH in “Flawless”, the scene where the trans people meet with the white gay Republican mens group.

  7. Freddy says:

As long as she runs and doesn’t drive, hopefully noone will die…

  8. Chic says:

Newsome is no light weight. He has political chops. Yes, the dinner was a mistake, but this recall is driven by OC and small businesses folks who wanted Cali to take the Florida approach to handling pandemic.

    • MsGnomer says:

As far as the French Laundry dinner, I thought he was stressed out and wanted to relive his youth for an hour or two. But, a recall? I agree with insights in your comment.

  9. Ninks says:

Caitlyn Jenner lived her entire life in a bubble of white male privilege and because of her wealth, celebrity status and her whiteness that even coming out as a transwoman has not burst her little bubble of privilege in any way. She has no empathy of compassion for anybody outside of her immediate circle.

  10. Soupie says:

We here all know this is nothing but a grift and those Trumpers she hired will take a temp job since it’s likely nothing else is forthcoming atm.

  11. Mrs. Peel says:

The constant need for attention runs deep in this family. Sad really.

  12. Midge says:

Kendall inherited Cait’s self absorption and Kylie got her (lack of) brains.

  13. Amy Bee says:

When she came out as trans I was really rooting for her. She could’ve been a real role model for the trans community and could’ve helped the wider society to accept trans people and to reject transphobia.

    • Juju says:

Have you seen her docu series? She doesn’t know the first thing about the trans community or their struggles. People constantly had to explain the most basic things to her that even I know and I’m neither trans not am I American.

    • Heat says:

@Amy Bee – my niece is also trans and she felt the same way. There was so much hope that Caitlyn could really shine a light on trans issues. We were all hopeful.
But then, she became a vapid airhead with no interest in anyone but herself.

    • schmootc says:

Coulda, would, shoulda. Then didn’t. It’s all just very sad and disappointing.

  14. AmyB says:

These celebrities making a bid to run for government positions – Kayne West, Matthew McConaughey, and now Caitlyn Jenner! UGH! We SAW what happened that last time a celebrity/reality TV star took over the White House and had zero government or political experience people!!! “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”!! Do we want a re-run of Donald Trump LOL?

Like Kaiser, I watched a few episodes of “I am Cait” when Caitlyn Jenner came out as trans. OMG, she is so cognitively dissonant when it comes to her political philosophy, and completely ignorant about the issues that surround her very own community. How she can be such an ultra conservative Republican, and not realize that they do not support the rights of the LBGTQ community (which she is not a part OF) is beyond my comprehension! She has been privileged all her life, and it shows! As others have pointed out, does she have nothing better to do? Best to leave politics to those who know what the FUCK they are doing, and have experience. Go back to shopping for Louis Vuitton shoes Caitlyn.

    • Eleonor says:

I think there’s a chance she will discover that those who she considers her peers despise her.

  15. ZeeEnnui says:

This is so dumb, I can’t even. I’m a native Californian, and this Newsome recall effort is a joke! A lot of it is funded by out of state Republican interests as well as big mad CA Republicans desperate for relevance and chaos. It’s a lot of anti-maskers and small business people who were angry about the lockdowns – it won’t work. Newsome has said the state will reopen in June, once that happens any chance they think they had will fizzle. Also, if you visit Jenner’s website you’ll find all kinds of ways to donate but no platform to speak of. So sick of “celebs” running for office to fill their bottomless need for attention.

    • antipodean says:

…..and their wallets!!!!! So sick of these delusional bandits who spout “fiscal conservatism”, but really just want all the loot in their own pockets. It makes my blood boil that they are laying claim to MY hard earned and paid tax dollars, which belong to ALL of us, for the benefit of ALL of us, not just the privileged, larcenous few!!!!

  16. Murphy says:

Forget the Trumpers, if she was still managed by Kris then she might actually have a chance at winning this. (She may be PMK but she always gets that ish done and you know it)

  17. greenmonster says:

To quote breakfastrant: A history of being tremendously athletic, then showing up where your wife tells you to be to talk about being athletic and then following that up with being the arguably the lowest watt bulb on a reality show in the intellectual dark, does not remotely qualify you…

  18. Rapunzel says:

Trumpers don’t even want to let a trans person use the bathroom in peace. No way they’re voting one for Governor.

And if Trumpets had their way, Cait would never have won any medals… they wouldn’t have allowed her to compete in athletics.

  19. Indywom says:

Someone needs to feed her ego. I am sick of celebrities thinking they can run the government with no real experience. IF they care that much about politics, why not start small like getting elected to city council and leaning how things work? Those Trump folks he hired are just looking to take advantage because they know that Caitlyn is too stupid to know which way is up. Those friends of his might play golf at the club and accept free drinks but deep down they hate his guts.

  20. Ann says:

What a delusional dumb ass. So many reason why this is a horrible idea but the one that leaps out to me is how bad she is with money. She is not qualified to run her own checking account, by her own admission! She obviously has no chance of winning but the fact that she is so far up her own ass to think this is a good idea is annoying, to say the least.

  21. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

She’s got the schtick, and somebody told her she could win. Listen, if fat bastard sat in the oval office for four years, any one person can do anything they could possibly imagine anytime…anywhere. BUT. To think she has Republicans simply because she represents their token, ‘See? We love everyone!,’ and in that same vein appeal to liberals, illustrates her, and those in her orbit, ignorant hubris. It’s an insult really. But I’ve been politically insulted for some time now.

  22. Melanie P says:

Such an oxymoron,,sooo addicted to 💰 and fame.. 🤮

  23. iconoclast59 says:

Cait is no Arnold. People only know her from KUWTK, where she came off as whiny, entitled, and dumb. Also, her children from previous marriages were featured in the first seasons, but then they faded from view, and those kids have said that Cait doesn’t have much to do with them anymore. Hardly the family image the GOP likes to project. I will enjoy seeing her trounced.

  24. WithTheAmerican says:

Don’t underestimate California’s love of a good show. See: Gov. Schwarzenegger who won office by lighting a car of fire to symbolize lowering the high car taxes. (Of course he raised money off of us another way but Republicans and frankly regular voters aren’t known for their ability to see through gimmicks.)

Many Californians and Republicans would vote for her – Republicans love to vote for the oppressed minority who has chosen to be a token puppet for their party to pretend like they’re not full of hate.

    • Anne Call says:

Ummm, no. Trump lost by almost 30 points in California. GOP statewide brand is pathetic and this will only make it worse. She has no qualifications or experience. Pathetic attempt to raise her profile and grift off the gullible base.

  25. Kkat says:

Arnold was a hell of a lot different than Jenner
Arnold had platforms and ideas and had the backing of the Kennedys
He was very centrist he appealed to both republican and democrats

Jenner doesn’t have a chance at all, I’m a So Cal native and the democrats won’t vote for her because she is a opportunistic moron trumper.
The Republicans won’t because she is hollywood, trans and weird to them.

She will get some novelty votes but that will be it.
She might think she is a trump republican but she isn’t one of them.
My extended family are moron trumpers and there is literally no way any of them would vote for her
lol my mom and dad would never

    • jwoolman says:

Arnold also has brains, which Jenner lacks. This shows in interviews with Arnold long before he went into politics. Even as a teenager, he was focused and persistent. He had goals and met them and actually thought about more than the scripts he was handed for movies.

  26. Leah says:

It won’t work. People know she’s out of touch and supports a man who worked to oppress the trans community. She’s about as genuine as a $3 bill. The gop voters/trumper thumpers of this state are transphobic so they won’t vote for her and the rest of us who aren’t GOP know she’s full of it.

This all reminds me of how the GOP carted a mentally unstable Kanye West out to steal votes away from Biden. Ridiculous.

  27. sassafras says:

There was a very weird thing among Trumpers in mid to late 2020 that Trump was going to win California. Does anyone remember that?? I wonder if this is part of that whole… belief. It’s almost like California to Republicans is what Texas is to Democrats except Biden came closer in Texas than Trump did in California… right?

  28. Regina Falangie says:

Jenner, Alright, alright, alright and the Rock can all fuck off. We need intelligence, experience, ethics, compassion and empathy in all government positions.
    Full motherfucking stop.

  29. Wolfie88 says:

    She killed someone right?
