Sarah Ferguson: Duchess Meghan’s kids’ book ‘should be supported & respected’

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York

About a month ago, I described Sarah Ferguson as having “the moral center of a corpse fly. She’s a desperate wreck, clinging to whatever connection she has.” I stand by that! Fergie is neither friend nor foe to any particular royal or any particular villain. I believe she was genuinely supportive towards the Duke and Duchess of Sussex throughout their courtship and marriage. I also believe Fergie would gleefully sell them out to anyone and everyone. Last month, Piers Morgan “revealed” that Fergie had sent him a message of support after he was fired from Good Morning Britain for just a fraction of all of the awful sh-t he’s said about Meghan. Again, that should not surprise anyone, that Fergie would send Piers Morgan a supportive message. She probably sent Harry and Meghan supportive messages around the same time. She isn’t taking sides. She’s just a ball of chaos. And now she’s chiming in on Meghan’s children’s book.

The Duchess of Sussex may have announced this week she has written her first children’s book called The Bench, but there is, of course, another Duchess who beat her to it. Step forward the Duchess of York, 61, the leading writer of children’s fiction in royal circles, who made her name with her Budgie The Little Helicopter series. And Sarah is clearly determined that Meghan doesn’t steal her publishing limelight, as this August she makes her first foray into adult fiction, with a historical romance called Her Heart For A Compass, co-written with Marguerite Kaye, for Mills & Boon, no less.

Fergie and Meghan have much in common; both of them entered royalty as outsiders, both married second-born princes and both have reinvented themselves as writers. Fergie has, of course, already made quite a head start on Meghan when it comes to publishing. With more than 70 titles to her name she can afford to be magnanimous in her praise towards Meghan.

‘To sit down and work hard to write a book, in any genre, should be supported and respected,’ the Duchess of York tells me. ‘To encourage literacy in general not just children’s books, is a love of mine and to encourage more women to delve into their creative selves and get a book out is very well done.’

Fergie’s historical romance was inspired at least in part by her Scottish great-great-aunt — Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott. In Fergie’s new book, Lady Margaret is portrayed as a flame-haired Victorian rebel and a daring free spirit cast out from polite society.

[From The Daily Mail]

Of course Fergie is stepping in to remind everyone that *she* did it first. Or something. In truth, Fergie has written a lot of kids’ books. She started doing those books (and the merch) after her divorce, when she was completely broke-ass and looking for revenue streams. Meghan wrote The Bench when she really didn’t have to – it’s not like she needs the money. She just wanted to do it, and she thought there was a nice kids’ story there. My point? Fergie is tacky and Meghan is not, and so the urge to compare the two women falls flat.

Something I always forget: Harry was kind enough to invite Fergie to his 2018 wedding.

Good ol’ Fergie…always on the grift!

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

No one needs her endorsement, least of all Meghan who is doing what she failed to do despite going on Oprah herself a few times. Trying to hitch her wagon to a star. No one is buying what you are selling Fergie.

  2. Ainsley7 says:

Will couldn’t invite Fergie to his wedding because she had just been caught taking money from Epstein….

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Eh…they didn’t care about THAT (see Pedo).

It was the topless toe-sucking that got Philip livid, saying he never wanted her in his presence again….and ONLY because she got “caught” at it (not the actual “deed”).

  3. Nev says:

    SIT DOWN TRICK.

    • bamaborn says:

      THANK YOU!

    • BooyahB!tches says:

Well, “Trick” is friends with H&M; her daughters are the only ones who don’t throw shade on H&M; Harry hung out with Eugenie during the funeral trip home….Fergie has been made into a horrible person by the same vile media that are haranguing H&M, so maybe lighten up, go back and see what the media and RF did to Fergie, and tell me it isn’t the same as they did to Meghan. Different script, but I’m willing to bet anything Fergie found out about Andrew’s ugly little secret when she divorced him. They have been disgustingly rejecting of her since, when she really did nothing wrong. Nothing.

  4. Alarmjaguar says:

I mean, yes, Fergie is all those things, but this sounds to me like the press trying to drum up another rivalry by pitting Megan against Fergie. Why does it always have to be a competition with the BM?

    • MissMarirose says:

Pitting women against each other generates clicks. Just look at any comment section for proof.

  5. MsIam says:

Fergie started writing children’s books before the divorce. The first one had some controversy if I recall. I think she’s just trying to do what she can to survive but she’d be better off not clinging to Andrew. The daughters are well grown now and yeah she’s messy just like him but he’s going to go down far and she should get away.

  6. Lucky Charm says:

She looks good in the blue suit, and I really like that hat. The green monstrosity on the other hand, with the hat that looks like it has wings…

  7. Midge says:

Oh look at Fergie blowing with the wind. lol, not surprising

  8. Victoria says:

One of my favorite parts of the 2018 wedding was Fergie in the quire being extra and the suits hovering, pretty much telling her to go sit her ass down with everyone else away from VIPS! I live.

    • molly says:

2018-2019 really was a Fergasance. She got to go to Harry’s wedding, be front an center for Eugenie’s, and then invited to Royal Ascot in the spring. Fergie was LIV-ING. Too bad the pandemic (and those pesky Epstein rumors) derailed her comeback.

With Beatrice’s wedding and Philips death, it all could have been coming up Fergs at this point.

  9. Amy Bee says:

    Whatever, Fergie.

  10. Cecilia says:

I honestly do not believe it was fergie who sent piers that text thanking him. I think that was more carole middleton or charles william or kate through one of their palace proxy’s. That being said, the comparison between megHan and fergie ends with the fact that they both wrote a children’s book.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Cecilia, I am with you. That is the only similarity! My god, they are truly willing to dig up Fergie with any chance of pulling Meghan to get clicks. And I don’t believe that Fergie sent a message of support to Piers.

  11. FC says:

Fergie loves Fergie, period. She wants to be heard and relevant, so she will comment on every flavor of the day. Kaiser I’m glad you brought up the wedding invite, because she probably legit appreciated the inclusion. She is so thirsty for the limelight and has had so many doors closed on her within the family that Harry’s warmth toward her and her kids has provided a much desired lifeline back in.

    • BooyahB!tches says:

How is it you run her down yet defend Meghan? Are you completely unaware that the RF treated Fergie like SHIT, the same way they treat Meghan????? WTF did this woman EVER DO WRONG??? Jeez, running her down, you’re as bad as the British media who do it to Meghan. LEARN YOUR HISTORY.

      • norah says:

fergie was caught sucking on toes in public when still married. she spent decadesa after the divorce selling out her title to get money – she is not a friend to the sussexes. she is an opportunist – beatice and eugenie are unforunate to have her as a parent. she is shameless

  12. Becks1 says:

I like how the mail is now using Fergie to insult Meghan – “she has a head start….she can be magnanimous…” lol. If that’s all they’ve got, that Fergie has written more books than Meghan so therefore Fergie is more of an AUTHOR than Meghan…..and then even fergie’s nice response was used against M lol. Sigh.

Fergie looked so much better at Harry and Meghan’s wedding than Eugenie’s.

    • BothSidesNow says:

I know! Why she chose that green get up makes my mind boggle. You certainly want to look spectacular at your daughters wedding. If I remember correctly, Jack’s parents looked lovely.

    • BooyahB!tches says:

Bless her: she’s always had horrific taste in clothing. Really.

      • MsDiMeanOur says:

This green is great mind you. Its too plain for mother of the bride though 😔
However… That pic showing sweaty underarms isn’t

        Don’t royals have stylists?
Every time this pic is posted
I check the inside of my sleeves (I live in very hot and humid Mozambique, we have no winter 😂)

  13. Woke says:

I still don’t believe Piers, Fergie has nothing to do with this one sided beef between the firm and the Sussexes. In matter of fact she benefit from it because the media aren’t focused on Andrew. So I don’t know why she would thank him. She probably texted him to say sorry he lost his job that’s it.

  14. S808 says:

Fergie and Meghan are night and day in terms of where they landed post working royal life. The comparisons will never make sense imo.

  15. EnormousCoat says:

Fergie is like a mercenary. She just wants to generate headlines so she can get paid. She takes no side except for the highest bidder’s.

  16. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

How do Meghan and Harry deal with the Andrew problem? They’re friends with Eugenie and have been kind to Fergie the disaster – but how do they then avoid the PaedoAndyRapeyEpstein debacle? It must be bloody difficult and involve a hell of a lot of tact and suppressed feelings, I would have thought.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s tricky too bc Andrew is also one of Harry’s blood relatives, so its not just about being friends with Eugenie. My guess is that they (H&M) are the last people to judge others based on relations, so they probably don’t talk about it with Eugenie but probably don’t have a whole lot to do with Andrew.

      • Kkat says:

Well I had two uncle’s rape and molest me from the age of 3-11.
I’m close with most of my cousins.
We just don’t talk about how their fathers are rapist child molesters while we’re opening presents at Christmas

      • Becks1 says:

        @Kkat omg I’m so sorry. That’s horrible.

      • Commonwealthy sounded witty at first says:

I am so, so, sorry Kkat. That is heartbreaking, you did not deserve that. No one does.
You’re still here and I admire you for that.

      • swirlmamad says:

@Kkat, I am so sorry that happened to you. Hugs.

    • BooyahB!tches says:

Didn’t Meghan mention something on the sly about that in the Oprah interview? Something about how “worse things” have happened, but still the media focus was to drag her and Harry down? She was referring to Andrew.

  17. BeanieBean says:

I dunno. I think it’s unfair to say that Meghan had the ‘better’ motivations to write a children’s book. Fergie wrote a few, Meghan’s got her first one coming out. Fergie said kind words of support. Let’s not make it into something it’s not.

    • murt says:

Yes completely agree. Who cares if one needed the money and the other didn’t…. it’s likely Megan does too, considering how expensive their security costs are.

Good for both of them for trying to make a living by doing this – Fergie’s problems really came way later when she blew all of the $$ she made.

    • Tashiro says:

      @BEANIBEAN
Agreed. Those first few paragraphs were all tabloid crap.

  18. Sunday says:

So Fergie makes a bland, supportive-if-you-really-squint message about Meghan and then gets a full plug for her children’s books and her new book, too? I’m just surprised she didn’t include “available at indiebound, amazon, barnes & noble or on your kindle!” at the end.

  19. TheOriginalMia says:

Eh, I’ve no problem with Fergie saying something nice about Meghan. She’s right. It shouldn’t have to come from Fergie. Not when she’s not the only royal (ex) to write a children’s book.

    • Chrissy (The Original) says:

I agree. Fergie might get a smidge of publicity for this but maybe she truly likes Meghan and wants to support her as a fellow author. (shrugs)

    • BooyahB!tches says:

More like she wants to support her because she sees Meghan being treated in the same SH!TTY manner as she was; don’t you all remember (possibly not!) how badly Fergie was treated by the gutter media in UK, and the RF??? She was just treated like absolute shit…

  20. Gail says:

The only thing in this story that resonates is “Harry was kind enough to invite her to his wedding in 2018” is:
    Harry is kind ~
    Periodt

    • Susan says:

Agreed, Gail! Also, my hot take: I think Harry and the York girls connected because they understand what it’s like to grow up as the “NOT chosen one” in the BRF and with crazy unstable parents.

    • Dl says:

I like Fergie. I am her age group and remember how she was tossed to the wolves. I always felt Andrew didn’t want a divorce but Philip threw a fit. Brittle probably trying to survive definitely. They did raise much healthier children and still have a tight family. So obviously did a better job than Charles who ruined his wife and family. I will never forget what Charles did.

      • BooyahB!tches says:

FINALLY! Thank you DI! I also remember how they treated her: like a pariah. Meanwhile, her and daughters seem to have the most normal and loving r/ships in the entire RF (now H&M also do), but they literally hurled her under the bus. Vicious nasty wretched snakes.

  21. L4frimaire says:

Fergie is all about Fergie and looking out for her interests. She knows there is no advantage to her jumping on the Meghan smear bandwagon with this book.

  22. Imara219 says:

I mean Fergie didn’t lie in the statement. She did have endorsements and write children’s books. I’m glad she’s at least mentioning it because it shows the hypocrisy. According to Megan, she was friends with Fergie’s kids first before she met Harry. It also seems clear that the Sussexs’ don’t have a problem with Fergie. Now Fergie is problematic and she had her scandals but this doesn’t seem to be an issue. The inferred problems are by the press trying to make it into a versus.

    • Humbugged says:

All 3 couples went to Misha Nonoo’s wedding and are really close .That’s the reason Harry turned over the keys to Frogmore to Eug .Misha first husband employed both of Fergie’s girls and she gave Mish a massived hug at the wedding

      • Legalease says:

Yeah, Eugenie was actually sort of Meghan’s connection to Harry. Meghan knew Misha, Misha knew Eugenie, and Eugenie obviously knew Harry. Regardless of whether Misha actually set Meghan and Harry up on that blind date (it’s all speculation), it was Meghan and Eugenie who really ran in the same circles originally, not Harry.

      • Humbugged says:

        Legalease

Soho House was the spot where they met .The owner was at the wedding with his daughter because his wife Kirsty Young was doing the commentary on BBC for the wedding – she was born just up the road from me in EK and my sister(who is a Sister) works in the hospital where she was born- Kirsty was on the Board of SussexRoyal until they made them scrap the thing

Markus introduced Meghan and Misha in Miami .And my guess that it was her that set them up and Meghan stayed at her house when she went to NY for the Baby Shower before they got outed

  23. jferber says:

Let’s not forget that in the Oprah interview Meghan praised Fergie for teaching her how to curtsy when she was meeting the Queen (indoors) for the first time. That was friendliness and she was very kind to do that (whatever her faults).

  24. Brubs says:

what I’m actually curious about is: are her books good?

I didn’t know she was a writer, I don’t know much about royal history

  25. MerlinsMom1018 says:

I think that blue outfit looks good on her. I can only tell from the waist up but blue is a good color for her.
    That’s all I got

    • L4frimaire says:

That blue outfit looks better then what she wore to Eugenie’s wedding. Fergie knows that Meghan’s presence takes the heat off her and Andrew, and no one is really scrutinizing them. While Andrew is confined to the UK, she can probably travel once restrictions lift and do whatever it is she does

  26. iconoclast59 says:

“Fergie has, of course, already made quite a head start on Meghan when it comes to publishing. With more than 70 titles to her name …”

70?!? Is that a typo? What, is her weekly grocery list included in that count?

    • Becks1 says:

A few of them are her autobiographies, and then most of the rest (maybe all? I don’t think her historical fiction book is out yet) are kids books. During the shutdown she did a “story time with fergie” and would read a book (I assume one of hers) on youtube, all dressed up in the theme of the book etc.

    • Elizabeth says:

70 struck me as odd, too. There’s 41 listed on her Wiki page (if you count all her Weight Watchers books, all the books in her children’s series, etc.).

  27. BlueNailsBetty says:

Fergie and the Pioneer Woman need to get an update on their eye makeup. That jet black, poorly done eyeliner is hideous.

  28. Snappyfish says:

Let’s not forget that Budgie was plagiarized

  29. Legalease says:

I really feel for Beatrice and Eugenie. Both their parents are such embarrassments…

  30. swirlmamad says:

This doesn’t bug me, at least on Fergie’s part. She’s an opportunist for sure, and coined the term ‘hot mess’ but I honestly don’t think she’s trying to start any beef with the Sussexes — on the contrary, I feel like I’ve only heard her say neutral-to-decent things about Meghan but of course the BM twists it to make it seem like shade. Especially if Eugenie is genuinely friends with them I don’t think Fergie would have anything against them per se.

  31. Mooshe1 says:

Fergie’s a walking disaster and doesn’t pretend to be anything else

    • Curious says:

so was the queen, she followed her husband. sarah stayed alone for yrs. and had enough. phillip was not a faithful man. the queen accepted it .sarah did not . sarah willing left. but she had to wait so long for her divorce.she wanted to get a job but couldn’t since she was not divorce. as soon as she got her divorce she went to work.

  32. Monica says:

Honestly, I’m so suspicious of the BM’s framing when it comes to M&H, that I will not assume Fergie has shade to throw Meghan unless it comes directly out of her mouth.

  33. Curious says:

what surprise me when reading about Sarah is that she got her private helicopter license. only woman to do so in the royal family. also read she didn’t take any divorce settlement when she got divorced. she went to work. that sting operation they did , she was doing that with Andrew blessing. he makes money that helps her and her daughters .. that’s why Andrew never kicked her out , she still lives in his home and supports her. if he didn’t know about it he would have been in a rage , angry and kick her out .. which he didn’t cause he was part of it ..

  34. Curious says:

sarah is a goofy person. she was funny. but the royal family used her to cover charles relationship with diana.. charles went so low as he can to hurt diana. she was the princess of wales. she was popular and that would have helped this old man. but instead she got screwed. no need to be jealous of your wife when she was helping him to be popular. other than that he was not a faithful man. having 3 lovers before he married diana… being a royal doesn’t mean one can forget he was a low class piece of sh it.
