Prince Harry was supposed to submit his daughter’s name in writing for approval! LOL.

Britain's Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex completes a trade as he attends the 15th annual BGC Charity Day, in London, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019. The day is held each year by BGC Partners to commemorate the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald and the 61 EuroBrokers emp

The Windsors and their courtiers are amateurs. It’s an utter clownshow over there, and the royal commentators are not helping matters whatsoever. As we try to figure out why courtiers are still downright *insisting* that Prince Harry did not seek his grandmother’s permission to name his daughter Lilibet, I keep thinking about the awful controversy about Archie’s birth certificate. It was revealed this year that when Harry and Meghan filled out Archie’s birth certificate in 2019, the original document included Meghan’s name and title. Someone in Buckingham Palace – we still don’t know who – went behind Meghan and Harry’s backs and changed Archie’s birth certificate to remove Meghan’s name. That’s the kind of control the palace is used to having over royals. That’s how petty they are, and how eager they are to blatantly “erase” a royal family member they see as problematic. And this week’s hissy fit over the name “Lilibet” should be seen as the courtiers throwing a tantrum that they can’t order the Sussexes to change their child’s American birth certificate and name. Speaking of, the Sun now claims that Harry was supposed to seek approval “in writing” for his daughter’s name. ORLY?

Gyles Brandreth joined a heated debate on Good Morning Britain after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hit back at a Palace source who claimed they didn’t ask Her Majesty permission to use her childhood nickname. GMB host Susanna Reid asked Gyles: “Why are they both now rowing over the name of the baby?”

The author of Philip: The Final Portrait replied: “This should be a storm in a teacup. The dispute is this. Was the Queen asked by Harry and Meghan whether they could call their child Lilibet or was she told? Either way she obviously agreed because she is a decent and loving grandmother. The Palace seem to be saying she was told, Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson seems to be saying she was asked. Harry and Meghan were not happy with the BBC suggesting that they have gone ahead and done this out of the Queen’s consent and indeed have asked their solicitors to come down with a heavy hand on them.”

He continued: “It is a shame. It is so sad this has come about. The Queen was not asked.”

Gyles said it was doubly disappointing because of today’s date, saying: “It is a sad thing to be happening today because June 10 is the centenary of the birth of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.” He went on to claim that Prince Philip, who died on April 9, had been “heartbroken that the Royal Family had turned into a soap opera. He also regretted members of the Royal Family giving personal interviews. He felt [that] no good ever comes of it.

A Palace source told the BBC the Queen was “never asked” about the use of her pet name Lilibet. But Harry and Meghan’s official spokesperson said the couple did contact the monarch, and she was the “first person they called”.

They did not, however, follow formal royal protocol in asking written permission for use of the name.

[From The Sun]

Now Prince Harry was supposed to write a letter to Buckingham Palace asking them for permission to name his American daughter what he wanted to name her? For the love of God. And that is NOT the protocol. The protocol – if one exists – is merely to inform the Queen, which is what both Prince William and Prince Harry did with their children’s names. In fact, both Harry and William avoided announcing the names of their children until the Queen was directly informed of their choices. That’s it. That’s the protocol. The courtiers and commentators are just salty because Harry and Liz speak regularly and no one knows what they say to each other.

Oh. My. God. These people are unhinged and desperate for relevance and control. I’m so glad H&M are away from that putrid pile.

    • Tom says:

Let’s invent new American protocol. If a prince has a child with an American in the U.S., all unfriendly personnel back in the prince’s country of origin must shut the @#$& up about it.

I was going to make them eat Big Macs at Colonial Williamsburg over July 4th weekend just cuz. But no.

      • Justjj says:

You must send a letter. Approximately no less than 500 characters and approximately not more than 571 characters in length. You must take a quill precisely 1 meter in length from tip to stylus. You must dip the quill in fine quality ink that shall be black. You must formally address every breathing person who could potentially be in the room whenst upon your letter might be read. You must ask permission approximately once. You must include all names and potential nicknames, including names such as Boobabyhoneyface and Sweet Pea. You must sign thee lettre with tears of pleading and desperation. You must seal the letter by wax seal only and it must be sent by carrier raven. The raven shall be specifically trained for this purpose and weigh no more than 8 lbs. You shallst receive a response whence upon the raven arrives and has ample time for rest, most likely a fortnight. Thenst we shall let you know if you may use the name thoust requestede.

That’s exactly right. They act like it’s the end of the world. Running around with this nonsense instead of asking for a true answer to the comment that the queen is senile? Where’s the true story on that question?

    • Lorelei says:

Honestly, all this new line of absolute bullsh!t did was make me wonder if Archie’s birth certificate was ever corrected to include Meghan’s name. And I can’t be the only one.

I don’t think “putting everything about royal babies in writing” is a path the BRF should go down right now.

    • I know Gyles has written two excellent (semi-authorized) biographies on Phillip and had a personal relationship with him. However, he is talking out of both sides of his mouth here. In his recent bio (out since Phillip’s death) he states that Phillip had no problem with Harry and Meghan wanting a private life and he was happy for them. Now that Philip’s dead, I guess Gyles has decided he better tow the FK and FFK line and join in bashing the Sussexes. I love how Gyles states Prince Phillip hated the family giving interviews. It was Phillip who argued and fought to have the family documentary created that aired in the sixties and the Queen mothballed and has never allowed it to be aired again. As one historian said at the time, when you let sunlight in, you spoil the magic. Historians have long held the opinion that Phillip opened the door on the vast media intrusion that has since followed.

      • 2cents says:

Lowcountrylady: “Historians have long held the opinion that Phillip opened the door on the vast media intrusion that has since followed.”

This reminds me of the following adapted quote:
“….those who foolishly sought (media)power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside.” John F. Kennedy

  2. Lauren says:

Sending it in writing so that it can be passed onto the rags. They are trying it.

    • Over it says:

Yes. Because you have to feed the beast to get goog coverage for the underachieving rest of that rat nest they call a family

    • Yvette says:

@Lauren … Or sending it in writing so the Buckingham Palace aides and courtiers could deny the request without the Queen’s knowledge ‘and’ leak it all to the Tabs with the inference that the ‘Queen’ had denied the request. I really agreed with Kaiser that the lot of them are salty as heck because they no longer have control over the Sussexes, and they’ll have even less control once Charles becomes King and brings his own House with him to Buckingham Palace.

      • Lauren says:

Charles’s own house is already at BP. He waited until his father retired and started taking out his parent’s people and putting his own in their place. That’s part of the reason why the smear campaign and Sussexit were such a mess.

    • 809Matriarch says:

Yep. Just like how it worked when they wanted to step back and Chuckie Tampon insisted they put it in writing. The next thing you know Dan Wootton had the story.

  3. Betsy says:

Ah the protocol is back! They’ve violated the protocol! It’s the pRoToCoL, we must obey.

Who’s this Gyles guy? Everybody’s gotta get their word in, I guess. And their word is always “protocol.”

    In triplicate!

Salty courtiers. Anything in writing gets leaked and they know that.

  5. Case says:

LOL what in the world? Lili is American. They could’ve named her California Meghan Dream Mountbatten-Windsor and there’s not a damn thing any of those people could do about it.

They wanted a half in/half out situation and the BRF refused. So now they have zero control over the Sussexes. Too bad, so sad.

    • Chaine says:

I wish they’d have named her “Princess” Mountbatten Windsor just to really really really screw with the british media.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, that’s the thing. At the end of the day none of this matters. It doesn’t even really matter to the royal family, either. People clamor for the TQ to make a statement, but she’s already made it – she’s delighted with the birth of Lilibet Diana. Too bad if the media thinks it’s too boring or they don’t believe her – it won’t be the first time and it won’t be the last.

      • My3cents says:

Right, this is not an issue to anyone in the RF. All these pieces are just distractions. They had two really damaging articles recently about the RF hiding their finances, and their unwillingness to adhere to working place laws, a pedo prince, and countries looking to become independent from the Crown.
Let’s give the people stupid think pieces about names and make them forget the bigger picture here.

I think the BBC leaker was Charles & with the lawsuit this might get revealed.
Diana said Charles will never be King & honestly, things are looking to be headed this way.

    • Mir says:

There will be no lawsuit. Nobody will reveal anything it will die down quietly

      • MsIam says:

Exactly, just like the bullying allegations. I wonder if the royals will announce they’ve hired a law firm to “look into this” too? Racist idiots, they should learn Harry and Meghan don’t play around anymore.

      • 809Matriarch says:

Yep. Just like how it worked when they wanted to step back and Chuckie Tampon insisted they put it in writing. The next thing you know Dan Wootton had the story.

      • 809Matriarch says:

Oh. I think there will be a lawsuit. Harry will unmask that toadying leaker and put the fear of God in the rest of the vipers. This is slander. They accuse him and Meghan of lying about their conversation with the Queen. They have refused to take down the offending article AND other outlets have picked up the story and it has morphed into them taking advantage of a senile, deaf and weak old lady.

I hope just like they have saved clips of all their other Zoom interactions with their charities, they have saved copies of the interactions with HMQ. They keep receipts and this messy business is gonna bite the courtiers in the butt. I personally plan to enjoy some Jiffy Pop and watch with great interest.

    • Nina says:

If that is true regarding Charles, the DM is going to settle. The BRF cannot afford for that kind of a turd to be on display for all to see. The BRF will demand that DM shut it down and they will oblige because it is a symbiotic relationship.

      • hmm says:

        @Nina
Are the Daily Fail being sued, I thought it was just BBC this time?
BBC is desperately trying to look like an honest new org. (esp. after the Bashir stuff).
I wouldn’t be surprised if they hint at Charles being the leaker just to lash out at the royals.

    • notasugarhere says:

Are you talking about the Panorama interview? She never said Charles wouldn’t be king in that.

    This protocol bs

The ground is shifting right under their feet and they just keep acting oblivious. Like if we keep putting our heads in the sand it will go away.

  8. Ginger says:

I have a feeling the Queen really likes the name and THAT is what is pissing them off.

    • Lorelei says:

      @Ginger EXACTLY!!

William must be too enraged to even function.

      • Nyro says:

Thank you. This is all clearly coming from William, Kate, and Carole. Idk why so many on here thinks this is coming from Charles. I doubt Charles could care less about the baby’s name. This is about the Cambridges’ legacy and fighting for Charlotte’s honor and not allowing her to be overshadowed by the unworthy black American girl like her mother before her

      • Emile says:

@Nyro this actually makes sense, especially when you remember that Buckingham Palace and Clarence House’s social media (or Twitter, at least) referred to the baby by her full name — Lilibet Diana — while Kensington Palace only called her Lili. Granted, Lili will probably be the name she will most commonly be known by, but for them to call her by her nickname in their first, official, acknowledgement of her smacks of an attempt to distance her from the women she is actually named after.

        The Cambridges stay pressed.

      • notasugarhere says:

Reads that way to me too. This is from Camp KP.

      • JT says:

I agree. I think she does like the name. The name is so refreshing and it came out of left field. It’s royal with a twist and instantly iconic in my opinion. It’s fitting that child from the most famous royal couple will have it. The name will carry on her legacy so to speak. You can’t talk if little Lili Di without thinking of the queen.

    • Becks1 says:

Ah! I bet you have hit the nail on the head here. the queen is probably tickled pink about little Lilibet and someone is incandescent with rage about it.

      • Feeshalori says:

I’ll bet William is spitting bullets over this. Especially if she’s always referred to as Lili Diana whereas his little princess Charlotte is not since Diana is her third name. In Lili’s case, that seems to be an integral part of how she may be called. How William must be 🔥 that Diana’s name is front and center with the biracial child in combination with the queen’s endearing nickname. What a missed opportunity to have named his child that, you snooze you lose. And of course, the Palace and the RRs would have been tripping over themselves fawning over that name.

      • Lorelei says:

@Feeshalori: the Cambridges behavior has turned me into such a petty person. I’m sitting here happily thinking about how angry William must be 🥰

I’m really not a horrible person IRL! But he brings out the petty in me like no one else.

    • Truthiness says:

I have a grandma nickname story. My dad only called my mom by a nickname he made, let’s pretend the name was Lilibet. A few months after his death I called, checking up on her. My stoic mom had been crying. I asked why. “No one will ever call me Lilibet again.” So I said ok, then Mr Truthiness and I will call you Lilibet from here on, I am half my dad’s genetic material after all. Fast forward 2 years or so I had a son so she became Grandma Lilibet. None of my 3 siblings did it, we are not close. My mom FKN LOVED that name to pieces! She would sign Grandma *nickname* to everything. If my son misbehaved, she would say, you tell him Grandma Lilibet says to behave. And my mom and son became thick as thieves, by the end of her life my son was just calling her Lilibet, it just really touched her. I bet QEll is similarly touched by all her grandchildren giving their children forms of her name and this time is no different.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

Yes! I’ve felt all along this came from TOB. Too much of this narrative is negative towards Charles and the Queen, which is TOB’s modus operandi. Add to it that he feels he’s the only one that should have ownership of Diana’s legacy. He’s probably uber pissed that Harry dared to name his kid after the Queen & Diana, when it should only be Charlotte, who does both.

Gyles Brandreth is an ex-TV gameshow host and “TV personality” who was briefly a Tory MP.

Literally scraping the bottom of the barrel wheeling him out.

    • Lorelei says:

Oh, so would it be accurate to say that the only reason anyone knows who Gyles even is is because he used to be on “chat shows?” 😏

      • Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

I only know who he is because he wrote a series of mystery novels with Oscar Wilde as the detective.

      • Kristinr says:

@Lorelai: Ha! I see what you did there:)

      • BritDebbie says:

We only know his name because after watching him once on a quiz show we now know to not bother watching if he is going to appear. He whitters on about irrelevant rubbish, talking over interesting people that have something relevant to say . His “comedy” is that he has verbal diarrhea and is a harmless old fool, but I find him disingenuous.

  10. NTheMiddle says:

Desperation. This is hilarious. Popping the popcorn for the next installment.

  11. Cecilia says:

The protocol that harry and meghan are no longer subject to?

    • mindy_dopple says:

Right! They are no longer working royals so they don’t have to follow the “protocol” for anything. They’re simply family members now…. Which is what they wanted… so this continues to be dumb.

    • Myra says:

Exactly. Somehow they’ve got a set of protocols that are absolutely coincidentally applicable to Meghan, and Meghan alone.

    • lucy2 says:

Right! They want to take away all his royal-ness, but still force him to follow protocols, which probably aren’t even real.
These stupid people will forever be moving the goal posts for H&M, and forever salty that H&M don’t give a crap and ignore them.

    • HeyJude says:

Precisely. They kicked them out after they tried to work out deal involving coordinating arrangements JUST LIKE THIS with them. Protocol no longer applies.

To be succinct- if you’re not going to protect this baby with Royal Officers at minimum, you sure as hell aren’t getting the type of involvement of forms informing you officially of her name.

  12. LaraW” says:

Didn’t you know? It has to be notarized by three different UK ambassadors, affixed with the Great Seal of the Realm, Great Seal of Scotland, and the Welsh Seal, stamped with Charles’ signet ring, reviewed by the Home Office, passed unanimously in the House of Lords, and ratified by the Commonwealth nations. It must be written on parchment paper with a quill made of an ostrich (African, not Australian) feather, with no more than 8 words per line and with three cm margins, not to exceed 27 cm in length and presented to Elizabeth by the Archbishop of Canterbury. But not before historians at the British museum verify that the parchment used is indeed at least 15 years old and manufactured by the King’s Papermaker who lives in a cave in the white cliffs of Dover.

Harry is spitting at the face of tradition and airing the family’s dirty laundry by breaking this protocol, acting like a special snowflake radicalized by what Those Americans call “laser printers.”

  13. Amy Bee says:

These royal commentators are not helping the situation. It’s amazing how these people can make a living speculating and making assumptions about the inner workings of the royal family.

    • BayTampaBay says:

These Royals commentators ARE helping the Sussexes to make more money in the USA and the Sussexes should really send them a very nice Christmas card with a gift box of Hickory Farm Cheese & Salami.

As there is no money for the Sussexes in the UK, I guess the Royal Rota Rancid Rat Reporters and the Circus Carnival of Royal Commentators just want to the lend a helping hand to the Sussexes in their USA ventures.

  14. Eurydice says:

The “in writing” thing is ludicrous and doesn’t bother me. But H&M aren’t “rowing” over the baby’s name and they’re not disrespecting dead Philip on his birthday.

  15. HeatherC says:

Give me a break. That family has been a publicly funded soap opera since War of the Wales, long before Harry met Meghan.

The Sussexes wouldn’t have sent their lawyers if they didn’t have firm footing and receipts. This is just another point of proof that Harry and Meghan were never supported as family members. This would easily be solved by the queen releasing a statement that after being asked, she was honored to pass her name to her great grandchild or some such wording.

The fact that this hasn’t happened screams volumes.

    • Couch potato says:

Yes, and they’ve conveniently forgotten that Philip was the one who got them into the media in the first place. Broadcast of the crowning, and the “show” filming their daily lives, which the queen insisted should never be aired again, was his doing.

It shouldn’t be a problem in the first place. It’s absolutely ridiculous to make a row out of a baby’s name. It says A LOT about what kind of unhinged trash the courtiers are. They’re like a flock of Joffreys, raging mad because the queen talks to H&M without them knowing. The queen could release a statement, but the ones doing it for her are the ones who created this shit storm in the first place. I’m pretty sure she’s kept out of the loop on what’s been going on for several years now.

    • equality says:

Even before that there was Philip and his rumors of cheating and his off-the-cuff remarks, Anne’s affair with her bodyguard, and Princess Margaret’s love life.

  16. JT says:

So he was supposed to get approval for the name in writing, just like the plan to step down. Umm hmm. So they can get the name and then leak it, like they did with H&M stepping down. If they wanted that level of control over Harry, then they should have kept him in the firm fully, or accepted the part time plan. If I was one of the crisis managers I would have quit already because these folks are too stupid to function.

  17. Aang says:

I think I remember reading once that the Yorks wanted to name one of their girls Annabelle or Anabel or something like that and the Queen gave a thumbs down so they didn’t use it.

    • Ann says:

Yes, I read that too. She said it was “too Yuppy” or something. At the time Annabel was a very very popular name in the UK, there was a restaurant with that name and a magazine. And I remember because lol, that’s MY name. The Queen might not mind Lilibet but she doesn’t like my name.

      • ennie says:

Not only a restaurant, a posh infamous club belonging to the first of said Annabel’s husbands (Jemima’s mom). Maybe they thought it was not a “suitable ” name

      • Bryn says:

Imagine needing someone’s permission to name the child you conceived, carried and gave birth to.

      • Couch potato says:

As @ennie says it was a club. Wheter they met there or just frequented there I don’t know, but there were stories about them wanting to name their daughter after the club. Given how much shit the RR has fabricated over the years, it’s most likely BS.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

I’ve wondered if that name was rejected because that is Camilla’s younger sister’s name.

    • BayTampaBay says:

It was Sarah York (Fergie) and she wanted to name Beatrice “Annabel”. QEII, or more likely the courtiers. “86’d” that idea very quickly.

  18. Lili says:

WTH! this sounds like a Charles thing asking them to put things in Writing, he did when they wanted to change how they work. which he kept postponing a response essentially Jerking them around. now he wants to do the same with a name FTS!

  19. Golly Gee says:

It’s time to untie and ungag the new crisis managers that the Royals are clearly keeping in the dungeon, and let them do their jobs.

    • Becks1 says:

Right?!?!?! This is just getting worse.

Now its not whether or not Harry asked her, its whether it was “in writing.” omg.

    • Couch potato says:

      True!

    • Izzy says:

I had honestly assumed that they just suck at their jobs as much as the rest of the palace comms teams do. If they are being held back or circumvented, they should resign and just announce it with a short, tersely worded statement. That would send the message.

  20. Gk says:

It’s not a good look for the royal family that someone that far down / not receiving $ is supposed to submit a name for approval. It doesn’t make it seem the royal family is that far from their colonial roots.
They need better pr. Even I could tell them better areas to attack H& M that won’t come back and make them look like uptight jerks i think other ways would be to harp on poor queen unable to see namesake in person. Geez the palace gray men are thick .

    • MsIam says:

Well I guess they can’t run with that story now. After all if the queen didn’t want Lilibet to have her nickname why would she be crying about not seeing the baby in person? Fools.

  21. Gk says:

Plus the whole biracial baby is not supposed to be named after the queen? Are the gray men actively trying to get commonwealth countries to leave?

  22. Lorelei says:

How about they produce all three of William’s letters to prove that this is actually a thing? Yeah I thought so.

  23. Snuffles says:

They keep moving the goalposts because they know Harry got verbal approval from the Queen who kept the courtiers out of the loop. Which she probably did because she considers it a private family matter as Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals.

This is just the courtiers intentionally stirring up BS in order to feed the tabloid beasts.

With Harry and Meghan on parental leave, it’s going to be a quiet summer news wise and they are DESPERATE.

  24. Agreatreckoning says:

Okay, they’re all just really making Sh#t up now. Most of us have probably done searches about royal baby naming rules over the last decade, last few years and past week. Nothing has come up about the name approval needing to be submitted in writing. If something comes up after this-it’s a new rule. The Queen’s approval is wanted, not a requirement (unless I’m mistaken).

  25. Amy Too says:

I wonder if Harry and Meghan are thinking, even a little bit, that maybe they should’ve just gone with Lili as the official name, rather than Lilibet, or if this sort of thing was what they were expecting. I can’t imagine it’s not bothering them, they had to send out their lawyers. That’s NOT something new parents want to be spending time one. Do they wish the Queen would just say something? Or do they understand that she isn’t and don’t want her to get dragged into responding to tabloid stories every single time the Sussexes and their relationship with their Grandmother is talked about. I just feel so badly for them right now. This is unhinged and ridiculous. And how does Harry, or Meghan, or Lili, ever go back and visit the UK and the royals now? They continue to treat them like crap, loudly and publicly, at a time when they’re very vulnerable and need to focus solely on themselves and their physical health: just after giving birth and brining a new baby, a precious, tiny, innocent, and vulnerable sweet girl that they love and want to keep safe and protected home from the hospital. How does Harry return for the statue unveiling? How do they go back for anything that involves seeing/talking to anyone other than just the Queen? And even then, if they just visit the Queen somehow, they still have to see/deal with her courtiers and aides that surround her and manage her life for her.

    • Merricat says:

Eh, I disagree. If they want to name her Lilibet, that’s what they should name her. If people have a problem, that problem is theirs, not the baby’s or the parents who named her. Nothing H&M do will ever please them, so they might as well do as they like.
As for going back, why should they?

      • molly says:

I am firmly Team Meghan, but sometimes they choose chaos, and I love them for it.

      • LaraW” says:

I don’t think they chose chaos. None of us could have predicted that the freaking BBC would chime in with a libelous story. We all anticipated the royal rota, but the difference here is that an established, formerly respectable news organization with a large international audience picked up the story and blew it even further out of proportion. We already know that Harry has very very strong feelings about what constitutes legitimate news, and the BBC, for all that it’s deteriorated recently, is still considered a legitimate news source. They’re the ones who crossed the line and fired the first shots. Harry responded in kind.

The BBC should know: Don’t dish it if you can’t take it.

    • MsIam says:

Harry and Meghan are not the ones having a fit about this. All they said was shut the fuck about it or we’ll sue. BBC or whomever is about to find out the hard way if they don’t stop this.

    • El says:

@Amy Too – I think if it was Lili, the same people would be crowing about it. It probably wouldn’t be regal enough. It would be insulting to name their daughter after Diana and referencing Meghan’s family without referencing the Queen. I think no matter what they did, the courtiers were going to lose it.

    • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, this is something that I’m DYING to know — if Harry and Meghan are disappointed that the Queen has never once spoken out in their defense — especially right now when the issue is so personal to the three of them — or if they understand, for whatever reason, that she cannot speak out.

I just have a hard time believing the latter. She is THE QUEEN. If she wanted to say something, she could.

Obviously Harry has his reasons for not holding this against her, but all I can say is that he’s a bigger person than I am.

    • Nyro says:

If there was ever a case for “no-contact”, Harry’s family is it. If they still wanna talk to granny on her burner phone, whatever. But the rest of them? No more contact. If they ever see the errors of their ways, let them wise up and make the first move toward reconciliation. But the Sussexes need to grey rock and not bother with these people in any way at all. Not even through third party. If the media calls and asks if you congratulated Beatrice on her new baby or if you sent thr Cambridge kids Christmas presents, they shouldn’t answer. That’s something that I always wanted them to stop doing but it’s something they need to do now more than ever. This attack on Lily is the worst thing this family has ever done to them. And there’s no coming back from that, imo. This is worse than the chimpanzee insult that was lobbed at Archie by a British journalist because this is coming from the family. For the last three days, they’ve sent out their minions to let the world know that they aren’t celebrating the birth of this innocent little baby, that she is not welcomed in their family, and that the queen is disappointed and saddened that her mixed great-granddaughter has her name. This is foul and the lowest thing they’ve done thus far. For me, it would take major major heart to heart family therapy and a full on press conference apology to ever be an extended family again.

      • Nivz says:

If this were happening to my newborn, I would be crying buckets and plotting to burn everything to the ground. H and M are better people than I. Sometimes I put myself in Meghan’s shoes and I have to stop in a hurry because even just imagining her life 2017-2020 is painful.

Fwiw I have tried this empathy method with the Duchess of Lamebridge and i came up empty. Blank.

    • MA says:

@Amy I think Harry and Meghan have made peace with the fact that no matter what they do, the British press and courtiers will attack them unfairly so they will continue to live on their own terms.

Thinking there’s any way for Harry and Meghan to prevent attacks is a tabloid and palace trap. Look at the outrage with Archie’s name, which has no royal connection. They invent outrage and this Lilibet nonsense is a particularly strained reach. They would’ve bashed her for not including the Queen’s name if they’d gone with something g else. Remember they attacked Meghan for doing Lindo calling her attention seeking, then attacked her for not doing Lindo calling her…..attention seeking. Harry and Meghan are vanilla and the British media have their every move out to be radical or improper, like a cookbook, fashion magazine, black dress, children’s book.

  26. Pork chops & Apple sauce says:

“It is a sad thing to be happening today because June 10 is the centenary of the creation of the game tiddlywinks”. The way these stodgy British tools try to connect the dots is mind boggling! There’s always going to be SOMETHING tragically inappropriate/insensitive that H&M did to bring such sadness to Liz and Phil’s ghost. Enough already.

    • MsIam says:

Who started this mess? It sure wasn’t the Sussexes! Lol! Out of respect for Philip’s ghost they should all shut up and put this to rest.

      • notasugarhere says:

Weirdly, Philip was involved with tiddlywinks in the 50s or 60s. When he was man about town, Queen’s husband looking for a pile of mates? He cozied up to people like Peter Sellars. He sponsored a celebrity tiddlywinks team in a championship against a University. Commissioned a prize trophy, Prince Phillip’s Silver Wink or some such.

    • Lady D says:

I think tiddlywinks is right up the RR’s alley. Finally something they can understand.

  27. MsIam says:

So now there is official protocol about having to have written permission to use someone else’s nickname? Did King George get his granddaughter’s written permission to name that horse after her? Inquiring minds want to know.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Please tell the King George horse story. Inquiring minds want to know.

      • Courtney B says:

George V had a 3 year old ‘spry little’ filly run her first race in 1931 (so two years after the Queen was born). The papers specified she was named after the way his granddaughter referred to herself. The spokesman for the royal stables confirmed it in Time magazine that year.

  28. TigerMcQueen says:

#1, the RF has been a soap opera FOREVER. Literally, since there has been a RF. HELLO, do they teach history in Great Britain?????????

#2, how many ways can the royal rats drag Phillip’s corpse into this? “Dead Phillip would have a sad if he were Live Phillip over the soap opera.” “It’s Dead Phillip’s birthday.” It’s weird but also shows how little they have and how f****** deranged they all are.

#3, H&M aren’t rowing over the name of their baby, they’re defending themselves because the palace tried to smear them and talked out of their a** without talking to TQ first. It really sucks that H&M get treated badly, they defend themselves, and then they’re dinged in the media for defending themselves because in salty opposite racist world, defending yourself if starting stuff. Gaslighting wankers.

  29. TheOriginalMia says:

Good Lord, this is ridiculous and embarrassing. It’s a name. They should be honest and say they don’t like that the biracial, American daughter of Prince Harry is named after their beloved, white supremacy institution and be done with it.

  30. GrnieWnie says:

What is the point of all this protocol when THIS INSTITUTION DOES NOTHING. IT SERVES NO FUNCTION. IT EXISTS. IT IS SYMBOLIC. IT IS NOTHING ELSE. Well, it’s a tourist attraction. And that’s it.

So again, I ask: what is the PURPOSE of all of this protocol? The mere fact that this family is banking on a future in which ANY of them “rule”, figuratively or otherwise, is a glaring assumption.

In short, people, you are OBSOLETE and so is your protocol! So quit whining to us all about who broke it!

  31. Sara says:

I knew they were going to find a way to say Meghan ruined a dead man’s birthday by having a baby. She was just a little earlier than they expected so they invented and dragged out this baby name non-controversy.
    Get. A. Life.

    • Cessily says:

I truly despise that they are doing this to the Sussex’s again! Meghan struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts with Archie, now she is postpartum and they are dragging her family through the mud again with the cruel lies and tainted twists they make up and publish. All my mind goes to is, they are making a new mother cry again and polluting their joy with these viscous lies.
I truly hope and pray that PH goes after everyone of them, hell I would donate to their legal fund if it would help at this point! This is psychological warfare and it needs to end so if the Queen won’t end it let the attorneys in both countries take it to the courts. Cease and desist orders, libel, slander, harassment, invasion of privacy, publishing trademarked or copyrighted names… whatever it takes to make it hurt and stick. It’s time no matter how gracious they are the British tabloids don’t listen to anyone but faceless leakers especially when PH is telling the world himself not hiding behind anonymity like a coward. They are evil and need to be exposed no matter who they are, I all for the “scorched earth” plan at this point.

    • Lorelei says:

@Cessily, I know, I just feel so unbelievably sorry for Meghan — for both of them, but especially Meghan — because these first few days with your newborn should be so precious and joyful.

Even if you’re still in some physical pain (I sure was!), it’s such a special time, and now they’ve ruined it for Meghan TWICE. The fact that they now know she was suicidal during her last pregnancy doesn’t even stop their constant vitriol. She cannot have one moment of peace.

There’s truly a special place in hell for these people. I don’t know how they sleep at night even now.

  32. Over it says:

I stand behind my words. Susan on GMB Is a racist snake. She is worst than piss Morgan because she likes to act like she is understanding of Harry and Meghan. Also who else wants to bet that the family Harry spoke to other than the queen about the birth of his daughter was his mom two sisters and not any of the Windsors. These people are all horrible. First week of lili birth and just like Archies instead of her parents enjoying her, they are fighting back against lies smear abuse and racism.

  33. Sofia says:

Oh please. I doubt there’s any sort of “you’ve got to write a letter” protocol. It’s just another spin they’re trying to add.

  34. Tish3 says:

The big question is – what does Uncle Gary think

  35. Vanessa says:

The British media has become unhinged with the help of unnamed senior palace there triple down on the Sussex’s there definitely trying to make this story. Into cry gate 2.0 the tabloids are not going to let this story ago because it’s gives them a chance to write about the Sussex’s which gives them Revenues . This nonsense about the name is so over the top and crazy

  36. P says:

Parents can name their baby with whatever name they choose, but they must have known the s-storm that was coming with Lilibet.

    • Merricat says:

      But why? Oh, right. Racism.

    • notasugarhere says:

When they sought and received permission from his grandmother to use this nickname? The storm is of the racist RR, courtiers, and Meghan hater variety. Harry and Meghan aren’t going to live their lives based on pleasing those types.

    • MA says:

There would’ve been a storm if they hadn’t included the Queen’s name at all. They know there will be a storm unfairly attached to everything they do so why bother living their lives except on their own terms? I don’t think it’s your intention but this kind of sentiment seems to blame the victim and put the onus on them for the rabid, unhinged, British media. Racism is irrational and would’ve found a way to attack them no matter what

      • Lorelei says:

Pick up one of those books of baby names for expectant parents. Pick any name in the book. There would have been a sh!tstorm no matter WHAT name they chose.

As Ginger pointed out somewhere, a lot of people are probably angry because it’s such a GREAT choice and the Queen probably adores it. Especially considering the timing, if it’s true that Philip was the last person who called her that. It’s unique but not in a ridiculous way and as someone else said, it instantly became iconic. So they’re *especially* pissed. Elegant Bill is probably so mad that he didn’t think of it first.

But they would have found a reason to be angry no matter what name Harry and Meghan chose, and they knew it, so I’m glad they went with the one they liked the most.

Lili will be our Californian Princess long after these dusty old courtiers, reporters, and “experts” are long gone.

  37. Agreatreckoning says:

Next up is that the verbal approval didn’t really count either because Harry asked with a noticeable “American twang”.

    • Voominvava says:

Haha, yes. Once Harry starts saying “literally” or “super” they’ll be able to push that knife in even farther.

  38. Over it says:

Let’s get two things absolutely straight here.

1 – the queen doesn’t own the name lilibet, anyone can call their child that,

2- Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals , the palaces had their chance for that and said no. So therefore they can name their child anything they want. They can go wherever they want. They can do whatever they want. They answer to no one. They don’t need to ask for permission for anything in writing or verbally. These people can just all go f themselves with the made up protocol. Even if it did exist, the fact that Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals means they don’t need to follow it, it doesn’t apply to them.

  39. Margaret says:

Well the queen won’t be hearing the name used anyway. Am I wrong that the only one using the name was phillip?.

  40. equality says:

So more faux-tical that only exists for certain royals, like don’t touch your bump unless you have a certain skin tone. The BM is tiresome.

  41. Saucy&Sassy says:

Here is an article which was written when Princess E had her baby and announced his name. In the article it makes it clear that the Queen doesn’t need to approve the name. They would have an informal conversation. If she didn’t like it then they have so much respect for her that they would change it. They are quoting Prof. Kate Williams. There’s an article before Archie’s birth, which also quoted her. Do the palace officials/courtiers, aides, spiders not know how really ridiculously racist they are showing themselves to be?

  42. Susie says:

It is super sad that the British media and the courtiers are actively creating a situation where when lili grows up she will know all these people were so racist and hateful they essentially wanted her great grandmother to hate that she shares her name. They want lili Diana to feel less loved than the other great grandkids. I mean lili is probably not gonna know the queen much due to her age so much of what she knows will be second hand from others and this huge “scandal”. Even if they didn’t get permission this whole story makes it sound like the queen would never want to share a name with that black American girl. How will that make lili feel when she grows older? The whole situation makes it impossible for these people to pretend they aren’t wholly racist or hateful.
My dad lost his mom when he was a teen. He has about 12 siblings shared with his mom. They all pretty much HATE each other in cruel and absurd ways. They all also loved their mom ALOT her shock death basically destroyed the family. Every sibling has at least 1 daughter with a version of her name. There are about 2 versions that about 9 girls share except for me I’m the last girl and my dad decided to call me her nickname instead of her name. In English it would be like legally calling me Archie or lilibet while everyone else has Elizabeth or Arthur. And that has always meant the world to me. That 1) my grandmother was so well loved that all her kids wanted to name a child after her 2) me and my cousins all share this name like a family link especially since our parents hate each other (we all like each fine and laugh at them) 3) that I alone got the special nickname as my legal name and cuz it’s ethnic it doesn’t sound like a nickname to westerners and is also unique to my culture. Even thou all my cousins share my grandmas name at the same time no one shares my name but me and my grandma. I never knew her but that has always been special to me. These people are trying to destroy that bond between lili and the queen cuz they are racist and hateful. I know this is small scale compared to suicidal ideation and all the other stuff they have done to the Sussex’s family but maybe cuz of my history doing this to a newborn who probably won’t have many memories of her namesake due to age but will have this name but also it’s scandal this seems like one of the cruelest and ugliest things they’ve done yet

  43. SusanRagain says:

That headline = funnier than the best of Monty Python!

The time when the King/Queen had the Yes/No vote on the child naming should have stopped 250 years ago.

H&M shoot an email to the men in grey, Fellas we desire to name our beloved daughter
“Princess Banana Hammock” and/or “Regina Falangee” lol

  44. Kaybee says:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are better people than me. I would have changed my child’s name to somethig else because they took something that was suppose to honor the granny and shat on it.

Honestly H&M must let go off the notion that these people love them becaude at every turn they show their asses.

    • notasugarhere says:

It is clear Harry and Meghan know whom they can love and trust in the family, those who love them, and who is and is not to blame for certain things. They made it clear, they have no problems with Harry’s grandmother.

  45. sassafras says:

Oh Okay. I didn’t want to go there but…

BP didn’t have a problem with the paperwork for the names Zara, Lena, Mia, Savannah, or Isla? Those are VERY TRADITIONAL PROPER ENGLISH NAMES… right? Oh – and Zara, Isla and Lena ALLLLL have the middle name Elizabeth. And Charlotte and Beatrice do too! This is like during Queen Victoria’s reign – every other damn child was named Victoria and Albert. PLEASE. NO ONE HAD TO GET “PERMISSION.”

Everyone can see through this entirely ancient and formal “protocol” that y’all have always 100% adhered to. Uh huh.
