I wonder if the Duchess of Cambridge is only realizing right now that she could have had a great excuse to miss “work” for the better part of a year. All she would have had to say is “I’m in isolation because I was exposed to Covid” and bam, it would have been the perfect cover story for why we can go weeks without seeing her at an event. Who are we kidding though? She doesn’t even need cover stories – she’s too busy being praised for doing the bare minimum because she’s the good, white duchess. Kate learned she was exposed to Covid last Friday (she learned AT Wimbledon) and she’s been in isolation at Kensington Palace ever since, allegedly. She missed the Big Tea events celebrating the NHS on Monday, and now she will miss the England-Denmark Euro semifinal:
Following the news that the Duchess of Cambridge is currently isolating – having been alerted on Friday that she’d come into contact with someone with coronavirus – she has been absent from a number of planned engagements this week. This evening, she’ll be forced to miss out on watching the England versus Denmark UEFA Euro semi-final at Wembley, where the Duke of Cambridge will be joined by Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
Kensington Palace previously announced that Prince William will be attending the match in his capacity as President of the Football Association, looking on as the England team battle for a place in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final. Hello! reports that Crown Prince Frederik, the heir apparent to the Danish throne, will also be present at Wembley Stadium, in the company of his Australian-born wife.
It will no doubt come as a disappointment to Kate to miss the reunion, as she is currently just halfway through her 10-day self-isolation period. It’s thought that she last saw Princess Mary at Royal Ascot in 2016. Previously, the two royals – both of whom are set to become Queen consorts when their husbands accede to the throne – joined together for an engagement in Copenhagen in 2011. There, they visited a UNICEF emergency supply centre (along with Princes William and Frederik), to raise awareness about a food shortage crisis in east Africa.
Yeah, she’ll miss it. I wonder if she even wanted to go. I think she went to that football match last week simply because she had been disinvited from the fakakta statue unveiling. That was the bargain she struck with William, although she was clearly not happy about any of it. It will be interesting to see if William brings George out for this match and they just make it a “boys night.” Very curious. And yes, if Kate is missing this football match, then she’s definitely missing the Wimbledon finals this weekend.
I was also thinking about how little we’ll see of William and Kate in the next two months. Most years, William and Kate’s appearance at the Gentleman’s Final at Wimbledon marks their last public appearance of the summer, and they go on vacation with their kids, and go to Scotland to visit the Queen, etc. It will be interesting to see if Kate really doesn’t do much of anything after her “isolation” is over. Also worth noting: when Bill and Cathy disappear for the summer months, the British tabloids get antsy and they start tugging at the Cambridges’ leash a bit. There have been a number of shady stories over the years which have come out in late July and August. Something else to keep your eye on.

All I know is Kate must be seething that she might have to miss the Wimbledon finals. She has been a permanent fixture at Wimbledon, even during some of the Waiting Years and still managed to faithfully turn up for matches when she was meant to be on “maternity leave“ but skipped out on events to honour veterans or the 7/7 bombing victims. She’ll be counting her button collection to soothe herself for sure.
Perhaps someone will video chat with her so she can watch “in person”. I wouldn’t be surprised if she insists that counts as one of her events in the CC.

@Kalana I think this is more Wills doesn’t want to be around her than Kate not wanting to be around. Sports matches are Kate’s favorite outing. She’ll always find time for sports events.
I feel like this is punishment for PR attempts during the statue unveiling.
I wouldn’t count William out for public appearances just yet. I know the royals usually take an extended break from ribbon cutting during the summer, but if he truly is rolling out the single dad vibe we might see him pop up with George and Charlotte sans Kate and possibly no Louis at all either.

I agree, I don’t think she’d purposefully miss it either, but I would 100% believe that Will put out the statement that she’d been exposed and so unfortunately wouldn’t be able to join him at the Big Tea and other engagements, how sad. Like, he publicly quarantined her on purpose. If that’s the case, this Tatler story makes more sense, (1) because it’s coming from Tatler and (2) because it’s another reminder from him to her – you’re “exposed” remember? Stay away!
Yeah, I’m not sure why people think *she’s* the one who’s behind this increasingly shady self-isolation period. I get the sense that it’s William who threw this curve ball out. Wimbledon’s arguably her favorite “work” of the year, especially the men’s final. I don’t think she’d want to miss it, and the timing of this self-isolation means she might not be able to go to the finals.
She definitely wouldn’t miss wimbledon of her own free will. It’s the only work she actually enjoys.
Maybe the answer really is just simply that she was exposed last Thursday or thereabouts and is in self-isolation and there is nothing else going on. But KP is being so cagey about it and it makes people (like me lol) think that there is something else going on behind the scenes.
ETA maybe we are back to the theory that she was exposed at the soccer game last week, and William “wasn’t” because he didnt scan in or whatever – and bc they are tested so much William is just like meh, I’m just going to pretend I don’ t have to isolate, which would be a really bad look obviously for the FFK. Becks, I’m with you – it’s their reaction and explanation that makes everything seem so shady. It could have been at the match but then I still come back to the fact that David Beckham, Ed Sheeran etc were there too, and thousands of people would have been contacted. That’s a lot harder to hide. Remember we heard about the surge in cases after the Super Bowl? And we’re not even really doing track and trace (sob).
So it is possible that she was exposed on Thursday, maybe while she and Louis were allegedly bike riding (there’s been no mention of Louis being safe or exposed though, which is another weird omission), but it also seems like if your husband wasn’t very fond of you and wanted to punish you while keeping his hands clean, preventing you from attending your favorite event of the year seems like a great way to do that… I wouldn’t put it past william.
@Sunday apparently Ed Sheeran is isolating, which just adds another piece to the puzzle. Of course he could have been exposed elsewhere as well – but again it just makes this seem sketchier than it otherwise would be.
I think we’ll have a better idea when she comes out of isolation – we’re assuming she was exposed on Thursday, but what if she was exposed on Tuesday and just didnt know about it until Friday? that could put her out in time for Wimbledon, right?
I just think its weird that KP hasn’t said “the Duchess learned on Friday that she was exposed to someone who tested positive during a private event on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and will be out of isolation on X date.” The lack of details are what make it seem like William is benching her, but the COVID exposure seems like it would be a bridge too far if it were a lie.
Ed Sheeran isolating is concerning, because then that does seem like it was the match, which means that William is actively, publicly skirting regulations because there’s no way both Ed and Kate were exposed but he (and George) magically weren’t. If the British press was good for anything, that would be the story of the year – the future future king recklessly exposing thousands of his subjects to a deadly virus.
I’d totally believe that the KP statement was intentionally vague so as not to implicate Will in the exposure so he could continue to do whatever he wanted, which is disgusting and should be a huge scandal. So the “will does whatever he wants” part of my original theory still holds, lol.
Ed Sheeran has a small child, a few mos. old, at home. Could be he heard as we all did, that FFQ is isolating, and he chose to do so out of precaution (as *no one* in the public really knows where/how she came into contact). Just a theory.
They lied about skipping the vaccination schedule after making a big deal about not getting special treatment over their subjects. If she was exposed to covid during a private outing like a bike ride or at the salon, do you all really think that she, an already fully vaccinated person, would be following the rules and isolating, missing her favorite event? Of course not. She wasn’t exposed to anything, not at a sporting event and not while getting botox. She’s been benched by William. It’s that simple.
It doesn’t make sense that she would have to isolate for 10 days if she is fully vaccinated and tested negative. When Harry arrived from the US he only had to isolate for five days and then if he tested negative he would be able to attend things.
@Nic919: Those are the rules Kate has to follow. However they are going to get rid of the quarantine if you’re double jabbed from August 19th but it isn’t August yet so she’s got to follow the rules that’s currently there.

I agree as well. Kate has been clawing her way into the spotlight for the past few months. She wanted to be seen and there is no way she would want to be less visible for things like Wimbledon. William going to Scotland with the queen was another blow because she would’ve used that as an opportunity to show their “relationship” and talk about how close she and Betty are. Missing the unveiling was a huge blow going by how hard she campaigned to go. This quarantine was imposed in her.
I agree. This totally came off as a demotion/benching. Her preening antics at Philip’s funeral were probably noticeable and might have been easier to overlook had she not had the atrocious verbal diarrhea with Dr. Jill Biden- IMHO, that’s where she truly f*cked up and represented the monarchy badly on the world stage with international press watching. And with the shadow of Meghan’s story and accomplishment lingering, they needed her to step up and do decently, and she bombed like a mega-budget bad movie on opening weekend.

I absolutely think that’s what is happening here. The PR for Kate these last couple months has been completely out of control and I think she finally took it too far. Truthfully, she NEEDS to be benched so she can come back down to earth. At this point I think Kate believes she’s more important to the monarchy than the actual queen.
I think she’s being benched too! From what we’ve heard KP and the men in grey are very vague and not direct so it would make sense for them to tell her she’s been exposed but then give her the run around for why the kids and William aren’t isolating. Indirectly punishing her for all the articles and gossip from Middleton camp. She’s missing some good events. This isn’t being done by her directly, it’s the men in grey putting her in her “place”.

Andrew’s Nemesis I could not agree more. The press reminds me so much of the articles surrounding Charles and Diana before their separation. To be overly fair I will say in a Scotland she seemed to be trying to compensate for Will’s utter lack of care. But her family has really over PR’d themselves and the FFNarcissist is on the war path.
I agree. Some things that stood out to me about the article (other than the fact that this is being reported in Tatler. And the initial news about Kate’s covid exposure came from The Guardian— which is still weird to me):
William will be there in his “official capacity.” Framed that way, it makes it seem like this is more than two royal dudes sitting down to watch football, but some kind of formal diplomatic Event. Maybe it would have been anyway, but I think it conveys a different message than, perhaps, a “the two princes will enjoy engaging in a friendly rivalry as England plays Denmark in the finals.”
Then there’s the pointed references to all the prior occasions William and Frederik met, complete with (unnecessary) commentary on the last time Kate saw Mary. And the use of the word “forced,” rather than the gentler “in compliance with covid protocols.”
Lastly, the “no doubt it will come as a disappointment” sounds like a jab, though I’m not quite sure where it’s directed. Alluding to her laziness? The unhappiness that the couple can’t hide about their wedding? A chance for her to peacock about with another royal family and stake a further claim to this “Queen and husband” narrative she’s been pushing?
And they’ve only met (per Tatler) twice in the past. First in 2011, then 2016, and what should be 2021— five years between each visit, so it’s not a friendly social call. She’s being excluded from an event where other royals will be present— and they make it clear that Mary is the Danish equivalent of Kate. So…
Well technically, Mary is of higher rank than Kate. Mary is Crown Princess and her English counterpart would be the Princess of Wales (i.e. Camilla). Kate and William’s ranks are more akin to Fred and Mary’s eldest son Christian.
Elizabeth’s longevity means that her heir is about 20 years older than some of his European peers, especially the Scandinavia CP couples who are generally about a decade older than William and Kate.
If Frederick is Crown Prince, next in line, isn’t Mary more the equivalent of Camilla?

Yep that event with Dr Biden was incredibly embarrassing. Kate showed herself up and also showed massive disrespect to Dr B by dressing up a cynical photo-op as a “roundtable” JUST to lend gravitas to Kate’s pisspoor “early years centre” and so that Kate could use the photos to splice into her YouTube videos.
Of course we know Dr B is quite tight with Harry, and has done lots of work with him on veteran issues in the past, so maybe she expected a similar level of engagement/work ethic from Kate?
Hmm was just thinking that Biden and Jill very likely want to work with Meghan and Harry at some point in the future but are all about diplomacy. So Dr. B. doing this appearance with Kate is a way to not snub the RF when she works with HM. Like look I did something with Kate too so now I can do something with HM without being accused of favoritism. Possibly strategic on Dr. Biden’s part.
Look at Ed and David in the background, they are just two happy dudes watching a game after over a year of pandemic. Then look at the Cambridges, they are three completely disconnected from each other people and the event and their while aura is blah. Even George. I don’t think they will completely disappear this year. Because of the pandemic and their failure to deliver rota access to unveiling they owe the BM. I think that’s why William trotted the kids out of Father’s Day and took George to the EUROs. Now they just announced the polo event which will have a fixed position for media. It will be interesting to see if William continues to trot out the kids w/out Kate.
This story is a nothingburger. Of course Kate is not going to be there after it is reported that she is self-isolating (also I don’t think she cares for soccer). I don’t really care for soccer but I’m going to be patriotic and cheer for them – especially since the team had such a traumatic start to the tournament with one of the star players going into cardiac arrest on the field in their very first game. I genuinely thought that the team would be too rattled to win anything (especially since they lost their second game).
I’m really puzzled why this story was written. There literally is NO story. If she did appear, then there’d a be a good juicy story about how once again the royals flout covid rules.

It reminds me of a story that Tatler wrote after….the Trump state visit, I think? It was about Rose Hanbury being there. The tone of the article was very “but look who is also in attendance! will there be another falling out! What a surprise that Rose is there!”
But Rose typically attends state dinners because her husband attends them. There was nothing weird or unexpected about her attendance, and Tatler of all magazines would know that. So why write the article playing dumb about it? The point was just to write an article so they could talk about Rose Hanbury and Kate again.
This has the same kind of feel to it. If Kate is in isolation, then of course she’s not going to be at the soccer match and its a nothing-burger of a story .So why write about it, and making sure that everyone knows that William is going to appear at this event without Kate?

Yeah, I doubt Kate will be crying into her pillow when she misses the match. Football doesn’t seem to be something she’s interested in (and that’s fine. Loads of people aren’t, including me). Wimbledon is another story though lol.
She might do a few virtual meetings in quarantine and out of quarantine here and there but I’m not expecting much.
Weird but I feel there might be some 4th pregnancy announcements around September or late Fall and Keen’s absence is in the ‘preparation’ for that….
I’ll have to side with other commenters who have said they’d probably just announce it, like they did with her other pregnancies. Particularly as this story is inviting so much speculation.
They have never done that with the other three kids. They announce it right away and say she can’t attend anything because of HG. They don’t say something entirely different.

And the Cambridges old, tried and tested ways aren’t working now. It might be their way to make the news have a lot more shock value (to override the constant cheating and cracks in the marriage rumours) and also get loads of positive PR.
I think William would rather flee to Switzerland than have a fourth kid honestly. I think if they were going to do that they would have by now, it would have made much more sense during Sussexit and immediately after, or even around the Oprah interview.
@Maria We found out that Meghan was pregnant with Lili on Valentine’s Day, and a day or two later there were all those bizarre stories about Kate and Will telling the Queen that they’re trying for a fourth kid.
Kaiser rightly called out Kate’s media campaign to attend the unveiling – that Kate was planting stories about how much her presence was needed at the unveiling to try and convince William to let her go. Extrapolating from there, if we think that Kate (and maybe Will, to a lesser extent) uses the media to communicate, I think that announcement in February was really Kate suggesting the idea to Will via the media. I don’t think he wants another kid (hell, wasn’t Louis supposedly a bandaid baby too? and will can’t even be bothered to include him in a father’s day social media post or photo-op), but I also think he’ll do whatever he thinks will get him the best press.

And yes they would be desperate for that good press. But I really don’t think he is up to this. She’s been begging for a fourth since Louis, basically, and talking about being broody etc, but she’s admitted twice in public that William is done. Since they’ve only grown apart since then not closer I doubt this is something he’ll do even for PR.

I was one of the ones who said they would just announce it now if she was pregnant. They have always done that in the past, and the marriage speculation is getting to a fever pitch — if they had a pregnancy announcement that would be the perfect way to diffuse the growing tension. I think Bulliam is caught (deservedly) between a rock and a hard place….Talk of 4th child turning into a reality will be a huge PR boost (in the Cambridges and their crisis managers’ minds) to them right now but will also put a damper on the Single Dad schtick he has going on.
Also, news about him dumping Katie Keen and gallivanting with his new lawyer friend will invite a lot of scrutiny in British public and will allow the Rota rats to rhapsodize about Will Jong Un’s new lady being more accomplished than Meghan…God knows that all those ‘Take that Meghan! Kate is doing it better than you” articles are certainly not being digested by the general public. BUT baldy’s new love interest will also most certainly force people to compare his romance to Fred and Gladys (although Kate is certainly no Diana and has no other following than people who adore her for being white).

A fourth child is not a PR boost, it’s another “royal” to feed and clothe, and it would be incredibly irresponsible, especially since William is on record about peasants limiting their offspring to two.
@Merricat I know reproducing another child and raising the said child on taxpayer’s dime is a HUGE blunder….but in the royal family’s warped mind this might seem like a boost….these people(the royals) are cuckoo for cocoa puff and one shouldn’t put anything past them. Also, they have media in their pockets as well as gullible public who defends them and swallows any royal trudge fed to them via media. They would align the news of having fourth kid with the image of QEii birthing 4 kids and watch all the royalists vociferously defend their decision.
Personally, I think we can expect a divorce or a pregnancy. Kitty will not tolerate being benched for long. And, as soon as she comes out in the open her PR will begin the ‘royal rock’, ‘lynchpin’ and the ‘peacemaker’ articles again. Keen cannot help leaking fictions about others and herself to the media. There is no middle ground in this situation!
There won’t be another pregnancy. William would never allow it and it appears he and Kate are not living together for most of the time. When they are together on the rare occasion, he treats her with obvious disdain or outright ignores her. No way there’s going to be another child conceived under these circumstances, not even a turkey baster pregnancy.

It is only the person in a family who has been in contact with a covid positive person outside the family who has to isolate. My son keeps getting sent back from school because someone in his class has tested positive. He has to stay off two weeks but the rest of the family are allowed to carry on as usual. This is a UK thing.
Who said Ed Sheeran is isolating now? The article from the other day didn’t say when he was in isolation, just that he was isolating during the time he was interviewed for a podcast. Was there something that is more recent?
Apparently Sheeran recently traveled to the US to promote his new single and was required to isolate at home for 10 days on his return. So why was he at Wimbledon? Was the 10 day isolation period up? Inquiring minds want to know.

No way does Will want Kate at the game with him tonight. That last game appearance was for show so Kate could be seen after being benched for the statue unveiling. I do think Kate was exposed but find it hard to believe this is the first time that they’ve encountered someone who tested positive for covid after interacting with them. I think the evasion is that this time, William and the Firm want Kate to be publicly isolating so Will can go about his business without her. I imagine Will & Kate were exposed many times already but with all the testing they go through they don’t isolate. Maybe the lawyer wants to come to the polo game? Maybe Will got the lawyer tickets to the match tonight? It may be that Kate was both exposed and publicly benched by Will on purpose.
Maybe since William banned Kate from seeing Harry recently at the statue, he realizes the full power of NO. He may randomly or exclusively ban her from anything or everything. I too believe he’d take George and Charlotte to events, but not Louis. Either Louis is keeping Kate company or he’s signalling to her that all he ever needed were the heir and spare. I still feel he was never keen on the third child, but Kate obviously was. Maybe he’s also punishing her for that and for everything else that she or he (William) has ever done.
That would be very sad if his punishment of Kate extended to an innocent child.

Hello ladies. I have a theory and correct me if i am being to dramatic with my theory. I have a feeling that marriage of W and C is in some serious troubles, if you look at facial expressions of C since last fee engagements… it shows how empty her eyes are and so is her smile. I have a feeling that not in near future but in 5-8 years they will get divorced, and they dont want another Diana here with all the sympathy votes. So the firm has actually started the damage control where kate will not be getting so much spot light. Look at the coverage of all the other royals simce she has gone into quarantine. Secondly the thing that amazes me is that if she was told about the exposure at Tennis bec saw an article in daily mail where she left the match early because of the exposure news then why it wasnt told to the NHS event! And at the match there was no coverage about why she left early (it should have been a news in my view). So i have a feeling that she is being shown her place which is two steps behind william.
There’s a certain amount of work being done here to show that Kate is/has been treated just a shabbily as Megan. Therefore the treatment of Megan was not racist, its just how “we” treat the people who are not of the bloodline. Kate is being shown her place now, for all the public to see as a means of refuting claims that the black duchess was somehow treated worse then the white princess.
I don’t think so. This whole thing is being painted as benign (trying to keep things under wraps till they want it to come out, I think) instead of overtly benching her (even if it’s obvious to us in a lot of ways) and we’re still seeing embiggening articles to fluff her up. And for that matter, most of the Sussex haters don’t believe Meghan was treated badly in the first place, so I don’t get how that spin would work here.
And even if there are Sussex supporters who would see this as Kate being treated badly for the public to see, there’s no way it would compete with what happened to Meghan, ever, in their view and in reality. What’s seen can’t be unseen. Anyway, I don’t think KP cares about their opinion anyway. It’s all about the Fail readers, etc, who will dig in their heels that the family isn’t racist, all while being racist themselves.
Lori, that’s never going to fly. Where are all of the articles smearing Keen? No, if this is their shot at trying to refute that the two are treated differently then they have failed miserably. Frankly, I think that this is being done without slamming her publicly. They still get what they want, she gets the message they want her to get, but no one is saying anything negative about her. So, nope not buying it.
If that’s true then its two years too late. And there is way too much out there both in the press and elsewhere to show that is not true, they were not treated anywhere near the same.
Meghan (and Harry) had to leave the UK to get away from blatant racism, death threats and the iron-fisted control of The Firm, not to mention the outright complicity of the BRF in ignoring Meghan’s very real suicidal state of mind and leaking lies to the tabloids. The Cambridges continued skating despite their involvement in all of this and their stubborn refusal to take on any more than the barest minimum of work. Meanwhile, the media continues to extol the Cambridges’ virtues despite those so-called virtues being mostly non-existent. No comparison.
Maybe Kate could watch it privately, from a window, a la the statue.
