Jason Sudeikis wore a ‘Jadon & Marcus & Bukayo’ shirt to the ‘Lasso’ premiere

Apple's "Ted Lasso" Season 2 Premiere

Last night was the big LA premiere of Ted Lasso Season 2. I’m so excited! It starts on July 23, the same day at the opening ceremony for the Olympics. Lasso is Jason Sudeikis’s baby, and he’s put together an absolutely incredible team. I have to think that AppleTV+ is beyond thrilled with how this worked out for them, and Apple must be prepared to write Jason a check to do whatever he wants with this show and beyond.

For the premiere, Jason wore a “Jadon & Marcus & Bukayo” shirt. That’s for Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka, the three Black British footballers who were abused by racists following England’s loss in the Euro Final on Sunday. The turn-around on this shirt was really fast, damn. It’s an interesting moment when an American show about a fictional British Premier League football team is doing more to address the toxicity of British football culture than, you know, the president of the Football Association. I guess I’m asking, when will Prince William wear this shirt? Never?

I’m also including photos of Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham, the two brilliant women of Ted Lasso, and both Emmy-nominated in the Supporting Actress category. Both wore Versace looks! And Juno’s hair is… a lot! But it’s fun. Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple are on the cover of the latest Variety. The article is about the dynamics on-camera and behind-the-scenes at Ted Lasso, and how Hannah and Juno became BFFs instantly. They’re so happy on this show and they love that their characters are friends. It’s a great piece about how the show is trying to dismantle storylines about toxic masculinity and stereotypes about women in a male-dominated culture (in this case, football). You should read it!

    I want that sweatshirt NOW.

    • Snappyfish says:

I ordered one from Lelemoon this morning. I adore this show & everyone on it.

      • BothSidesNow says:

I do too!! I can’t wait for the second season to come fast enough!! I didn’t know that they were selling these sweatshirts!! What a great way to support them!! At least Jason is getting the message out there, front and center!!

Ahhhhh just seeing these faces makes me so excited for next Friday!! It really is such a good show and I think part of the reason we liked it so much initially was that we went into it with very low expectations, and then after an episode or two we were like, okay this is good, but predictable, I know where all these characters are going and then by the end we were obsessed (and also totally wrong about it being predictable, lol.) Juno and Hannah’s characters in particular end up being very different from what I expected in the first few episodes.

I know I’ve said this before but so far we have watched five series on Apple Plus and all have been excellent in terms of production value, etc. (See wasn’t really my thing, but you could tell it was a “spare no expense” kind of show.) I thought For All Mankind was one of the best drama series I’ve seen in recent years, and Mythic Quest is weird and hilarious. We went from just having Apple Plus because it was included with my husband’s new phone and not really watching anything on it to Apple Plus becoming our go-to when we’re looking to start a new series. So Ted Lasso was very effective for us in that regard.

Personally I don’t mind predictability in the show I’m watching. The show doesn’t have to surprise me to be considered good. I’m interested in the message of the show, the characters, their relationships, their growth… Ted Lasso has all this

That being said, the way the last season ended was actually unexpected for me

      • Becks1 says:

No, thats my point, that I thought the show was going to be very predictable and very similar to Major League, but it ended up not being predictable, the characters took turns I didn’t expect, etc. That’s part of what made it so good for me.

I like what Juno Temple did with the Keeley character, she’s a fine actress. In my view she was miscast. She doesn’t look like a Premier League WAG no matter the hair or make up she wears. I also find it predictably depressing that it’s a show with a privileged, public school educated actress playing a role a working or middle class actress could have carried out more convincingly – I can think of many. Hannah W is perfect in her role.

On the T shirt wearing point, I don’t think anyone can claim a correlation between wearing a t-shirt and addressing racism in football. What I was most heartened by was the public outpouring of goodwill including the beautiful response to the Marcus Rashford mural.

      • Snappyfish says:

She doesn’t look like Victoria Beckham or Cheryl Cole but she looks similar to Jamie Vardy’’s wife & Colleen Rooney. Not as posh but she hasn’t been elevated to wife status yet. She is just Instagram famous for almost being famous type & she is dating a player facing retirement. (Lewis Hamilton, F1, is famous for picking insta famous girls for brief fun, but is seen with the Nicole’s of pussy cat fame types in public. Of course now he is only seen with Roscoe his bulldog)

I like that she isn’t the perfectly boring beautiful girl. I think her look fits her quirky character.

      • Sigmund says:

I think Temple fits the role pretty well. She’s playing an aging footballer girlfriend who’s having to ask herself if she still wants this life. She mentions in the show that she’s basically aging yet her footballer boytoys aren’t. (Well, until she finds herself a REAL man, lol.)

      • Golly Gee says:

I like that Hannah Washington has lots of wrinkles in the show. A woman actually aging naturally. I hope that hasn’t changed for season 2 because she’s looking a lot smoother in the pictures above. But maybe they’ve just been touched up.

      • Lola says:

The Premier League WAGs don’t all look only one way. It can be really surprising. A really large proportion of the current stars are with women they’ve been with since their teens and have had kids with since their early 20’s. They really look like ordinary cute moms. They don’t have some kind of unattainable look whatsoever. Some of these women even receive a lot of abuse or mockery because they look straight up normal and average. There is one major star whose wife has been horrifically mocked for having a girl next door face and normal mom bod, and all kinds of starlets, presenters, reporters, and D-listers from all kinds of countries try to throw themselves at him with no dignity while he seems appalled and sometimes literally asks them to back up and stop touching him.

Love the t-shirt and love the show. I wish there were more shows like this

    • mosi says:

check out Trying also apple It’s a sweet gem with lots of heart, and it’s also funny

      • BothSidesNow says:

I just watched a trailer and it looks fabulous!! But I have a problem with accents when I take my medications as they cause a slight ringing in my ears, so I will have to watch it when I am not medicated, which is very rare.

  4. Merricat says:

The friendship between the women is one of the reasons I love this show.

  5. B says:

    Love it!

  6. Lena says:

Apple + should give all the world and then some to Jason&Co because how many of us would have continued with the subscription once it was up without Ted Lasso? I know I wouldn’t have. I liked the Morning Show but I wouldn’t have re-upped for that. Now I have to check out For All Mankind too.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s SO good. Some of the episodes are slow and some are more suspenseful, but the acting is always top notch and the character development is really really well done. I’m surprised it has not gotten more buzz during awards season.

Mythic Quest is also worth checking out. I was skeptical because its about a video game company but its really quirky and enjoyable.

    • Twin falls says:

+1 I have the free Apple + subscription. I activated it to watch Ted Lasso on the recs here and Ted Lasso sucked me into the other shows like Mythic Quest and Trying.

  7. TeamAwesome says:

Ted Lasso is just so good. I came to Apple for Prince Harry, but Ted Lasso makes me want to stay.
Brett Goldstein, aka Roy Kent, does my new favorite podcast, Films to Be Buried With. He is an absolute delight.

    • Louisa says:

I LOVE Films to be Buried With! You have to listen to the end of year episodes he does with Nish Kumar (think they’ve done 3 now). SO funny and they are both so knowledgeable about film. I’ve watched many movies based on their discussions.

  8. Anners says:

I like Juno’s hair, but I *loathe* her shoes. I really hope those clompy, horse-hoof type shoes aren’t coming back into style. I hated them in the 90s, too. Also, really looking forward to 2nd season of Ted Lasso – I may have to shell out for yet another streaming service. Sigh.
