John Corbett reveals that he and Bo Derek got secretly married in December

John Corbett called in to The Talk and chatted with the newly announced Talk host Jerry O’Connell. John and Jerry are friends, apparently. But even Jerry didn’t get an invite to John’s super-secret Christmas wedding to Bo Derek. That’s right, John and Bo, who have been together for nearly 20 years, decided to get married last Christmas, and John announced it for the first time publicly during his interview on The Talk. Jerry said he’d noticed John’s ring but didn’t want to say anything on television.

John Corbett tends to be super private when it comes to his personal life, including his longtime relationship with Bo Derek, but on Tuesday, he made a big revelation during a virtual appearance on The Talk: He and Derek wed in 2020.

The former Sex and the City star broke the news casually. He mentioned that he’d spoken to co-host Jerry O’Connell for a couple of hours the other day. But there was something he’d left out.

“Jerry, I can’t believe that I forgot to tell ya that, around Christmastime, we got married!” Corbett said. “Bo and I got married.”

O’Connell had been wondering if something was up with Corbett, because of a new piece of jewelry he was sporting.

“I noticed your ring, and I was gonna say something, but not on live television,” O’Connell said. “But wow! Congratulations!”

Corbett noted that he and Derek, who met on a blind date in 2002, are “pretty private,” although they’d already told their friends and family members.

“This is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because, really, we haven’t had an opportunity,” Corbett said, “so you’re my buddy, and now I guess I’m telling, you know, all of America or the world. And, yeah, after 20 years we decided to get married. We didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated. We thought, ‘Well, let’s get one nice thing out of it,’ so we did it around Christmas.”

I’m pretty surprised by this news, to be honest. I thought John and Bo were lifers, but I never thought they’d marry. They were both so very comfortable not being married. I thought they felt their relationship was more successful because they didn’t have the structure of marriage hanging over them. I also got the feeling that John Derek was more Svengali than Bo was willing to admit publicly, so she appreciated John C being committed without the legal confinement.

However, as far as reasons go, trying to bring a point of joy to a tragic year is a sweet one. They’ve always enjoyed their relationship on their own terms, this is just another example of that. We will probably have to fill in most of the details ourselves. Both Bo and John tend to keep their relationship cards close to their vests. Hopefully this decision will be a better one than John agreeing to bring Aidan back to the Sex and the City reboot.

I a always though the age-difference between them was more than 4 years.

    Congratulations to them.

Hopefully this is different from her marriage to the controlling Rasputin creep, John Derek.

    • FHMom says:

John Derek was a huge creep. I’ve always felt Bo was borderline brainwashed by him. I hope this is a healthier relationship, too.

  2. Darla says:

Two right wing republican stinkasses, but congrats i guess

    • Mathom says:

I can’t remember which talk show it was, (maybe Craig Ferguson?), but Mary Lynn Rajskub recounted an interaction with him before she was famous while working as a waitress. Based on her appearance, he asked her if she was “retarded.” I think she was doing promo for 24, so it was a while ago, but I only feel disdain when his name comes up.

WOW, I always thought he was a stand-up kind of guy!!

      • Meg says:

Ugh me too but i must have been thinking of the roles he’s famous for and he dresses like a bit of a hippie & dated her for decades so i thought easy going open minded etc. But clearly he hasnt earned that reputation

    • Green Desert says:

My first thought, Darla. Ugh with these two.

  3. Noki says:

Congrats to them. I can only gather that the male casts especially Big and Aidan are getting some HUGE cheques for them to agree, SJP cant let that show go and its embarassing.

I def wouldn’t mind being a lifer, I never saw the value in getting married ( I know who I’m with, I don’t need any paper telling me) but as I’ve gotten older I really do understand the legality behind it. the rights and benefits that come with having that paper. I would def get married if only to protect myself…. wait a min I’m thinking about it now, isn’t that why Carrie and Big go married.

    • Yup, Me says:

Same. After 15 years together, we just went on and got the paper because we reached a point where it made more practical and financial sense to have it than to continue without.

  5. The Artist Formerly Known as Valiantly Varnished says:

Bo Derek is a Trump supporter who said that she didnt believe George Floyd’s murder was motivated by racism. That’s all I got.

    • It’sJustBlanche says:

Ewwww. I knew she was a republican, didn’t know she took it that far. She’s only known for one movie that at the time was fairly salacious. I don’t know why people are still talking about her. She seems to have zero personality. The only thing good I can say is she seems to be aging gracefully and she’s beautiful still. But she looks every one of her 64 years.

    • badrockandroll says:

Bo Derek definitely is GOP, dating back to Bush41, even though she says she is independent. She and Trump did a movie together back in the day, and she said that he was nice. She certainly downplays her support of him as President. But for the record, what she said about George Floyd was this:

“What happened to George Floyd, I know racism was there but I didn’t think it would be so blatant with a policeman killing somebody knowing a video camera was rolling on him. That just blows my mind. But I do think changes are going to happen.”

She’s a bit convoluted, which means that she can easily be misquoted, but I interpreted it to mean that George Floyd’s death brought systemic racism out in the open for a lot of middle aged white folk like her.

  6. WithTheAmerican says:

People always comment on women “not aging gracefully” when they continue to wear the clothing they wore in their youth. Well. John looks like he’s not aging gracefully.

  7. Margo says:

Did anyone else think there was a big age gap between these two? He’s 60 and she’s 64. For some reason, I thought she was a lot older than him. Guess because she’s been in the zeitgeist since the 1980s and he has only been on my radar since 2000s.

    • Green Desert says:

She also looks older than her age. To me it looks like decades of a lack of sunscreen.

    • MaggieMcG says:

I definitely thought the age difference was much more significant too! Closer to 15-20 years…Not that it matters, just curious why I thought that?

    • Jenn says:

He was a heartthrob in the ’90s because of Northern Exposure, but I agree. I equate him and Derek with totally different eras and that threw off my clock

  8. Julia K says:

Lots of covid marriages due to needing legal next of kin and being able to speak for each other in a medical emergency. Financial issues. Visitation in hospital. Access to medical information. A long term couple at church married for these reasons and more.

  9. Lauren says:

The marriage suprises me. There have been so many rumors about him running around over the years. It sort of always seemed like she clung to it but he always had one foot out the door.
