James Middleton: Buying a house is ‘one of the most stressful experiences’

A few months ago, we heard the news that James Middleton and his fiancee Alizee Thevenet bought a home together in Bucklebury, a stone’s throw away from his parents. The whole thing is, as Alizee might say, tragique. James is a 34-year-old man who crashes businesses, pissing away millions of dollars on Nazi marshmallows, and he needs to be super-close to his enabling parents. And I still wonder if Alizee is the one financing their life together, since she’s the one who apparently has a real job.

Anyway, Alizee and James have now moved into their £1.45 million Bucklebury home and James thinks it’s the most stressful experience of his life. The man literally lost millions in investors’ money with his marshmallow business, but go off.

James Middleton and his fiancée Alizee Thevenet are home! Kate Middleton’s younger brother shared on his Instagram page Friday that they purchased new home with their beloved dogs. James and Alizee smiled for a selfie in front of their new abode, sandwiching one of their black cocker spaniels.

“I think buying a house is up there with one of the most stressful experiences in my life,” James wrote. “It’s been a hectic few months moving in to our new home & we couldn’t be happier. We are settling into our life in the country & the dogs ❤️ their new home.”

James also shared a photo of all six of his pups — Ella, Inca, Luna, Zulu, Mabel and Nala —posed in front of a fireplace as well as a shot of Alizee enjoying some wine and cheese under their new roof.

While James recently started a dog food company inspired by his beloved pets, Alizee — who is trilingual and grew up in Germany, Indonesia, Chile, France, Belgium and England — is a financial analyst.

Notice we don’t even hear anything about Boomf! That’s because the Middletons don’t want to talk about it. If a family member related to Harry or Meghan had crashed another business, you can bet there would be much more coverage. Instead, we get soft-focus, aren’t-they-cute pieces about how sweet it is that they bought a home super-close to his mummy and daddy and he’s starting yet another business. I really am worried about Alizee, I have to admit.

Poor James, probably it was the first time that he worked.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Imagine the stress he must be under. Those Nazi marshmallows certainly did not make themselves.

  2. Zapp Brannigan says:

If I was his wife-to-be I would take one look at my future mother-in-law and nope out of that situation. I would not want to be living so physically close to her when she seems to be so enmeshed in her children’s lives.

On the plus side: dogs! 🐶

    • Pao says:

I echo this sentiment. I really cannot blame Pippa for distancing herself a bit from her family. We’ve heard stories for years now about how Carole is an influence on william and kates lives and how they raise their kids. And now her son can’t seem to be able to move away from her and he’s dragging his fiance with him.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I wouldn’t worry too much if I were her. The Middarshians are only bothered about Kate’s children.

    • Lorelei says:

Right? Imagine looking at Carole Middleton and thinking, “Sign me up!” Ugh

I hope that Alizee gets herself a good prenup.

  3. Jayna says:

OMG that dog, I want her or him in my arms right now. I can’t take my eyes off of that beautiful face (the dog’s).

  4. Scorpion says:

Oh dear, it must so hard having Mummy, Daddy and your sisters all chip in to buy you your first gaff.
This workshy bum wouldn’t know hardship if it hit him in the face.

  5. Becks1 says:

What DID happen to Boomf? Is it over? is it just fading away into the sunset?

(never mind I just looked it up. it seems to still be operational, but to have more of a focus on cards and such than the marshmallows, although they are still listed. I’m just not sure why this idea – personalized marshmallows etc – wasnt just folded into Party Pieces with James being the head of that department.)

Anyway looks like a lovely house, good for him, cute dogs.

    • Kalana says:

Probably because if James messed up, they didn’t want Party Pieces to be sued. I think something definitely happened behind the scenes with Boomf and James’ investors and that’s why the London apartment was sold, James was sent to Scotland and also Hong Kong at one point, and there were decision at Boomf like sending out Nazi marshmallows, and James wrote an article for the Daily Fail to keep them from reporting more about it.

  6. Amy Bee says:

I think when he says buying a house is stressful, he’s talking about moving into a new home not the financial transaction. He sounds like those nepotism models and actors who talk about working so hard to get where they are. I have no doubt his parents helped with the financing for this house. It’s the least they could do after putting in all that work over the years for their daughters to find rich husbands.

    • tealily says:

I had the same thought. I recently bought a house and, yeah, the whole thing was super stressful. But that was because we were trying to figure out how to pay for all the repairs we needed to do, etc. If I could afford a £1.45 million place, it would have been a breeze!

      • Aidevee says:

We bought a house here in England 3 years ago and I swear to god, it was one of the most stressful experiences. Not sure how the system works anywhere else but I can actually relate to his sentiments here – the system is completely bonkers and the whole conveyancing process can take months only to fall apart with hours to go before you are meant to exchange contracts. I don’t think it matters what the price of the house is, it’s always dreadful and drought with tension.

      • tealily says:

I’m sure you’re right and likely there’s some “grass is always greener” happening on my part. Plus I know the markets are going crazy right now so everything is a little extra up in the air. But also, boo-hoo rich boy.

    • Ann says:

To be fair, as Aidevee said below, buying a house in England is VERY stressful. We know people who have done it. It’s expensive and they leave you on tenterhooks until the very end. It’s stressful in the US but there are a lot more protections for buyers, thankfully.

Of course James is spoiled AF, I’m just saying.

  7. Martha says:

It seems to me that also James is starting to lose his hair

    • Lorelei says:

Michael Middleton still has a full head of hair, so 🤞 that George and Louis get that gene from him

  8. Charfromdarock says:

Those Middletons really don’t age well, do they?

  9. Princess Peach says:

It must be hard begging one of your brother and laws for money so you can buy a house. I wonder if he got Pippa’s moderately wealthy husband to cough up the funds? He seemed to be one of his biggest investors in nazi marshmallow inc.

I’m surprised that Alize can’t do better than him. His over involved family is something nightmares are made of.

    • Nyro says:

I’m surprised Kris Middleton neglected to scheme and plot to get him hooked up with a well off woman 15-20 years his senior or something. Clearly the Middletons aren’t very career focused, so she should have kept that same social climber energy for him that she had for her daughters.

    • Over it says:

Lol. You made me laugh. Yup I agree one or both of those brothers in law contributed to this house. I don’t think the Middletons have the cash for anything. Party pieces has its own issues

    • Mac says:

They definitely got the money from someone in the family. Does James have a job of any kind?

      • Becks1 says:

he’s starting a dog food company! And he’s the marshmallow king! really Mac, how can you forget??

  10. Nyro says:

He and Kate look so much alike. I can’t even place where Pippa comes from. She looks like no one in her family.

  11. TIFFANY says:

I don’t see how when it is not your money on the line.

  12. Over it says:

I don’t know what this woman is getting out of this relationship but I hope for her sake she plans to get a prenup and that the deed for this house is completely in her name because this man would drain her bank account and mortgage her house to finance another scheme that will no doubt go belly up in months

  13. Mina_Esq says:

I’d be stressed too if I were buying a $1.5 million home but didn’t have a real job or viable investments. I feel bad for Alizee because I’m sure she has convinced herself that she is in love and can’t leave. I wish she knew she could and should do better.

    • Julia K says:

Entitled people don’t worry about money. There is always someone with money to bail them out. They rely heavily on others so they do not have to take personal responsibility for their actions. Poor Alizee. Never marry the baby of the family and mommy’s boy.

      • Christine says:

I married an only child who was a mama’s boy, and all I can say is agreed, and buyer beware. It does not get better with time.

  14. K says:

Ugh shut UP you tea- soaked hanger-on Jude Law wannabe! I cannot tolerate these people whinging about how stressed they are being rich. Grrrrr

    • kelleybelle says:

He only gets a platform because he’s Kate’s brother. Other than that he’s a nothing.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Aw that’s very harsh K. Maybe all his money won’t fit in his wallet, have a heart!

  15. Ettie says:

He does have severe depression, and probably (given alcohol fuelled incidents over the years) issues in trying to stop self medicating too, so I feel sorry for him. Plus the tabloids are happy to hurt him and his family unless he goes along and provides a story. I worry about his fiancee to be sure, but I’m also sorry for him.

    • MsIam says:

I empathize with anyone who struggles with mental health. But these folks chase the spotlight. What’s stopping him from getting a job and living quietly? He likes the royal adjacent sun just as much as his mother and siblings.

  16. Sunnyvale says:

Gee he must be exhausted with all the free holidays &… just about everything else🙄I’m thinking this was a “gift” from willywonka & keen(using the extra reserves from sussexs budget). DM randomly told us that keenbridges were “househunting” awhile back which was odd as they already live so close to buckleberry. I bet keen re negotiated her deal with willy during the 10yr anniversary(just like melania did when trump got elected) for her cooperation and this was one of the “bargains ” she got for her family just like how we heard he “helped” her parents get their bucklbery house in 2012

  17. Bess says:

I wonder if it has ever occurred to James that he doesn’t REALLY understand what it takes to start and manage a new business? Maybe Carole Jenner or her terribly moderately wealthy son-in-law could help him get a job at an already established business to give him experience instead of throwing money at another one of James’s pipe dreams that will most likely fail.

  18. Sinéad says:

I’ve been wondering if James and Alizee’s kids will be trotted out to take attention off the Cambridge’s when needed and then realised that Pippa has 2 kids already and we never see them. I would have thought that would be something W&K would resort to in lieu of Archie and Lili pics… although maybe there’s just absolutely no interest in the other Middleton kids seeing as they’re not Royal?

    • Kalana says:

The other Middleton siblings have never really been thrown under the bus except maybe when restrictions were put on Pippa’s promotion for Celebrate or during the lead up to the wedding.when Pippa’s social media pics were everywhere but Kate’s were kept out of the press. Kate does generally protect her family.

  19. The Duchess says:

    I can’t believe he’s only 34. He looks 64.
