James Middleton & his fiancee just bought £1.45 million home in Bucklebury: how?

James Middleton hasn’t been in the news that much this year. There were only a few updates about him last year, and it was just basic stuff, like he and his fiancee Alizee Thevenet postponed their wedding because of the pandemic. There was also a vague claim that James was about to start a new business, something about freeze-dried raw dog food, which was interesting because James can’t keep a business up and running to save his life. His marshmallow company, Boomf, lost millions of dollars and that was after James had like two or three other failed businesses. He just keeps starting businesses and driving them into the ground through bad management and bad ideas. The only thing Boomf did, it seemed, was provide James an opportunity to line his pockets with “investment” money. Curious then that James and Alizee are now purchasing a pricey farmhouse in Bucklebury. From the Mail’s Talk of the Town column:

They’ve put the pretty Berkshire village of Bucklebury on the map due to their Royal connections. But are the Middleton family hoping to make the area a mini-fiefdom of their own? I only ask because the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother James has just snapped up the family’s fourth property in the village – a £1.45 million pad to share with his fiancee, Alizee Thevenet.

It’s a four-bedroom Grade II listed period farmhouse with beams and leaded windows in a village on the Bucklebury fringes.

It means Kate’s family are all now near-neighbours, with parents Carole and Michael living in a £4.7 million Georgian manor house in the village, while her sister Pippa recently bought Bucklebury Farm Park, a petting zoo which is a favourite of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

James’s move means the Middletons own three properties in the area, having sold one. The original family home, the £1.5 million Oak Acre, where Kate and William met in secret during breaks from St Andrews University, was sold a few years after they married.

Mind you, tongues may well be wagging in the village about how James has managed to afford his new home, as two-and-a-half years ago his novelty marshmallow company Boomf was posting losses of £3 million. Happily, business is now boomfing and he seems to have found his feet after meeting Alizee, a wealthy French financier.

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s more than possible that Alizee is financing much of their life together. I think that’s quite likely, actually, that Alizee is the wealthy one and she’s the one putting up the down payment. But if you were financing a life with a failed businessman, would you choose to buy a home just a stone’s throw away from his enabling parents? Yeeesh. James based his sad Boomf company in Bucklebury, so perhaps he’s starting his dog food company there too. Oh, God, Alizee is going to have to finance that too, right? With some help from Pippa’s husband, Terribly Moderately Wealthy James Matthews. The Middletons continue to grift their partners for cash, huh? And why does everything have to be in Bucklebury? Is it because that’s where the family’s grow-operation is located?

The bank of mom and dad. Or the bank of uncle Gary. It’s a road many young couples have travelled. No shame. My moneyed sister and her husband live in an expensive area and have already said they will build a house for their married son and his young family.

    • Princess Peach says:

No way mom and dad gave him the money since they needed money from William for their own place. And the family business hasn’t made any money over the pandemic.

If he followed the Middleton playbook then his partner is paying for it. If not, then Pippa’s husband probably is since he was one of the bigger investors in his other money losing businesses.

      • The Hench says:

Yes weren’t we on here a few weeks ago debating the story about Party Pieces getting a load of investment? Unless this is what the money was actually spent on?

More likely Alize bought the house.

Lmao, must be nice to be funded by mummy, daddy and your sisters🤭😂😂😂

  5. Emily H says:

His parents are very well off and connected, so I am sure he has family money and probably a trust fund. This Grade I and II listed building business in the UK is so interesting….

Overall, I like James. He is handsome and loves dogs and seems down to earth (as much as someone like him can be), is honest about his mental health strugges, and his fiancee seems lovely. I love that picture of them on the boat. So naturally pretty. They sort of remind me in a way of JFK Jr and Caroline Bessette there.

    • Maria says:

His parents are connected with data selling and probably money laundering. They can’t be that well off if they needed help from William purchasing their $7 million house in the same area in 2012. Since news reports are stating massive financial losses for their “business” due to the pandemic I’m sure the illegal activities have stepped up.

    • Kalana says:

James Middleton reminds someone of JFK Jr? Now I’ve heard everything.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

LOL! This is the funniest thing I’ve read on this site. JFK my royal arse.

    • Lauren says:

I mean the family business has been losing a lot of money, but sure. Let’s say it’s the family. The wife-beating, white powder sniffing, weed growing part of the family.

    • MaryContrary says:

“His parents are well off”. Good one.

    • Nivz says:

      Emily H
Fine, agree he is handsome, and fine, I see the superficial resemblance of this couple to Mr and Mrs JFK Jr. But he seems definitely more of a Rob Kardashian, except his parents don’t have a tiny fraction of the money or connections. They are certainly more up their own butts than the Kardashians though.

Aside from that, I have no comments on him or his missus. To me, he is the least irritating Middleton. And PG will probably grow up to look a lot like Uncle Jimbo. All the best, I guess.

    • Isabella Saxon says:

JFk Jr was a hundred times more handsome, rich and charismatic. He was a president’s son. But James seem like a nice guy. I think he is very athletic.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

I’m hoping my post isn’t duplicated. @ Emily H, James does seem to be the best of the lot of the Middleton bunch. His openness about his mental health struggles is appreciated. Outside of hair coloring/coloring there isn’t much resemblance to JFK jr & Carolyn. The charisma is not there. Some people just have it – like Meghan & Harry. Now, when I saw the picture of James & fiancee, they looked to me like Hemingway and Gellhorn if Hemingway had a beard back in the day when they were together. This link just shows Hemingway, Gellhorn was an attractive blonde though.

I like the boat picture too, got a bit of a Wes Anderson vibe. They look happy together.

  6. (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

My FIRST thought was: does this border on that pot farm? lol

Considering just how fast that vanished from the news, I wouldn’t be shocked to find out Uncle Coked Out Wife Beater had something to do with it, giving CarolE financial legs. I mean, we heard about it, and POOF! Gone from the news, and NO ONE knows who “owns” the land. Verrrrrrrry Interesting!

While I do think James’ idea for the dog food is a good one (and a HUGE market – my sister bought frozen raw food from a special butcher for her Golden Doodle (ground up human grade meats, grains and veggies) that was all he ever ate… ok… we loved him and gave him some of our fish or cooked chicken, and carrot sticks every now and then lol), there is no way he has the business acumen to pull it off. His financé is most likely CFO and running it.

  7. Mooney says:

His fiancée must really love him to marry in that family….

    • Talia says:

I hope she does and they are happy together.

Having said that, even if she doesn’t , maybe she thinks having members of the RF as in laws and her kids being niece or nephew or first cousins to future kings is beneficial rather than the Middleton connection being a drawback. Don’t underestimate the snob value. Being on the automatic invitation list for future Royal events is a big deal for a lot of people. There’s an Agatha Christie novel that describe the lead character’s thoughts about why he married his wife (an Earl’s daughter) – “nice relatives for his boys to have”. Some people still think like that.

Also, James seems to be a nice enough person – suitable in background and reasonable to live with is better than a lot of aristocratic women put up with. I don’t know either of them but they might be happy together even if they aren’t love’s young dream (and a lot of those relationships crash and burn anyway).

  8. SarahCS says:

If she’s been genuinely successful in her finance career (and maybe has somewhere else to sell) I don’t see her struggling to get a mortgage to buy this. I mean she’s marrying him but I have vague hopes she’s financially astute enough to keep her finances separate from his.

Those Middleton kids sure do know how to marry money. Mrs Bennett, sorry Middleton, must be so proud to have raised such successful grifters.

    • Cecilia says:

I screamed at “mrs. Bennett” LOL

    • MaryContrary says:

How successful can she be in her finance career? She appears to be with him and the dogs 24/7. Maybe her family is loaded. But a young person in finance would be hustling in London.

      • bettyrose says:

IKR? I mean, maybe she’s putting in 80 hour work weeks and squeezes in lots of R & R /photo ops on the weekends. I know this is sexist, but I do find it a bit weird for a highly ambitious/successful woman to be with a guy who’s just bumming off his family. I mean, we don’t bat an eye when successful men marry women like, well, Kate or Pippa, but still passionate men are a huge turn on and I don’t see that with him. (And let’s be clear I’m not talking about finances. I totally get how MacKenzie Scott could fall in love with a teacher, but teaching is a passion and that’s sexy).

  9. WhyYallHateMe says:

    Ha!

    I detect fraudulency and fuckery.

    • Keroppi says:

I’m not saying it is, but wouldn’t it be gloriously epic if it came out that their wealth and businesses were built on drug and laundered money?

  10. girl_ninja says:

We are gonna find out that the Middletons are a crime family. May it be using investment money for their own gain or an illegal weed farm. This family is shady as hell.

    • Ania says:

Oh I have the same feeling. The time will come and they will remeber the day they decided to exile H&M. Because tabloids will come for RF assess and the will offer Middeltons first.

    • MsIam says:

From the sound of that article I think people may be putting two and two together, lol.

  11. Sofia says:

She’s either financing it or his parents are. James just isn’t a successful businessman at all.

  12. Digital Unicorn says:

Of course she’s paying for it – he’s basically done the same thing his sister have done, married someone who is wealthier than they are. Good luck to them.

The buying a home near his parents is kinda odd – makes you wonder if Carole is pulling on the apron strings to shore herself up. She’s a control freak helicopter parent so this should not surprise anyone – she is def one of those mothers who is VERY VERY involved in their children’s lives.

Pippa buying that farm made me laugh – they are taking over Bucklebury.

    • TigerMcQueen says:

I KNOW, they are. It’s weird. I wonder what the locals really think about them.

  13. Amy Bee says:

Has the Middletons London apartment been sold? The money for James’ place could have come from the sale of the apartment.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

It was sold a few years ago – I imagine that money went so shoring up their failing business.

  14. notasugarhere says:

Shady Uncle Gary? Maybe he was paid for all those recent Sussex-bashing exclusives.

  15. Keroppi says:

Plot twist: the house is made of marshmallows

  16. BayTampaBay says:

I wish them all the happiness in the world and hope they enjoy their new house.

  17. Catherine says:

Alizee works in finance. The BRF had many connections to banks and bankers so it’s likely that through William they are getting a ton of beneficial investment advice. Just as I’m sure Edo’s real estate business will benefit from the BRF connections. Also, I think the Middleton get “hush money” from William. It’s on the record that he either fully paid or partially paid for their current house.

  18. Cindy says:

This makes sense. Props to him. Previously, he seemed to be perpetually treading water. Now he’s fallen in love with a wealthy person who enjoys being royal-adjacent. Things are probably the best they’ve ever been for him.

  19. Mia says:

Marrying rich is all those kids know

  20. anotherlily says:

The family are not ‘very well off’ although they have sought to give that impression. There is no inherited money beyond the £500,000 left by Peter Middleton when he died in 2010 and shared equally among his four sons. Michael Middleton’s three brothers do not live in the same style as he has achieved.

The source of the Middleton millions is a mystery. Until Kate was 12/13 the family lived in a large semi-detached valued at £135,000 which they bought with a mortgage. They moved to a considerably larger manor house in Bucklebury with no additional mortgage. They paid a quarter million in cash for an adjoining field. Party Pieces was estimated to be making around £130,000 a year. Even allowing for the then legal practice of selling customer data it could not have financed their lifestyle, which included family holidays in Mustique.

Gary Goldsmith is widely believed to be behind the Middletons rapid rise in fortune. He is/was a self confessed drug dealer. The suspicion is that Party Pieces was laundering money for Uncle Gary.

    • candy says:

      It was definitely Gary’s money.

    • The Recluse says:

Interesting that no enterprising person in the press hasn’t begun to investigate this.

      • wals says:

quick google – Kate’s childhood home was purchased for £34,700 in 1979 by her grandparents and sold for £158,000 in 1995, M&C then bought the next place for £250,000 at have lived there ever since.

This is the boomer generation, we’re not talking big mortgages here so it seems entirely feasible that they could make up the £92,000 difference themselves.

That same childhood home sold for £485,000 in 2011 so is likely worth close to a million now -it wasn’t a cheap house at the time.

  21. Gretch says:

She wants to be near the royal family. Not theMiddletons

  22. Izzy says:

I guess the fiancée really wants those royal connections and is willing to pay for them.

  23. equality says:

What a disappointing article. Not a word about how many bathrooms the houses have.

  24. Original Penguin says:

She works for a finance company in an assistant role. I doubt she is particularly well paid. As far as I’m aware she doesn’t come from family money. I wouldn’t be surprised if the senior Middletons have extended the mortgage on their house to fund the down payment on this. The house prices in that area have skyrocketed since they bought the Manor House- meaning they can mortgage it for far more due for the loan to value ratio.
