Brandon Blackstock was ‘extremely jealous’ of Kelly Clarkson’s success

Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson

It’s always weird when I have really bad vibes about a celebrity or a celebrity spouse and then years later, my initial bad-vibe was sadly dead-right. That’s how it was with Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock. He seemed to give off douche-vibes, cheater vibes, fraud vibes. And here we are. Kelly filed for divorce last year and they were able to publicly keep a lid on the drama for months until it started to spill out in court filings and the gossip tabloids. Brandon and his father likely defrauded Kelly out of millions of dollars. Brandon demanded more than $400K a month in spousal and child support. Brandon was fighting to nullify her prenup. Kelly stayed the course and her prenup was recently validated by the court. So now that the end is in sight for Kelly, it’s time for a little housecleaning on why she left in the first place. According to Us Weekly, Brandon wasn’t just a greedy, disgusting fraud. He was also jealous of her success. Big surprise.

She can breathe for the first time! Kelly Clarkson feels “extremely confident” as she waits for her divorce from Brandon Blackstock to be finalized, a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“The relationship had been on the rocks for a long time,” the insider adds. “She was the high-income earner with a wildly successful talk show, and is the star of another hit show The Voice. Brandon was extremely jealous of it and made her know it.” Following her June 2020 split from the music manager, 44, the original American Idol winner, 39, “can finally enjoy her success without feeling ashamed,” the source tells Us. “Kelly doesn’t take credit for her success but shares it with the team she works with. It’s just who she is.”

The Kelly Clarkson Show host earns nearly $2 million in monthly income, and according to the source, the Daytime Emmy winner grew wary “that Brandon was just using her for her money and lifestyle” before they called it quits.

“The marriage was really, really awful at the end. … Kelly felt that she could no longer trust Brandon. She had a lot of questions that he just couldn’t answer,” the source tells Us, noting that there was “tremendous resentment” between the former couple. “She just wasn’t willing to look the other way anymore.”

With “so much tension in the family home” ahead of the duo’s split last summer, Clarkson appreciates the fresh start she found in her new Toluca Lake, California, residence. The “Since U Been Gone” singer dropped $5.4 million on the estate in June — and feels better than ever. “Buying a new house for the kids was also a new beginning for Kelly,” the insider says. “It was freedom.”

Along with her new home on the West Coast, the Grammy winner secured the Montana property she previously shared with Blackstock, which she argued was a “financial burden” in recent court docs. She is also fighting to legally restore her maiden name when the divorce proceedings are made final.

[From Us Weekly]

It’s all worth discussing, but I’m particularly stuck on “Kelly felt that she could no longer trust Brandon. She had a lot of questions that he just couldn’t answer” and “She just wasn’t willing to look the other way anymore.” This could be cheating – and I wouldn’t doubt it – but I think it’s more like that Kelly had gotten wise to all of his financial schemes and the fact that he was actively defrauding her. She began to challenge him on “where is all of this money going” and he didn’t have any answers. Yeah, I bet it was really awful in the end. I feel so sorry for her. She really loved him and trusted him. And he treated her like sh-t and stole from her.

Like i get the jealous thing when both people are performers- Carrie Fisher said someone (a famous writer) described her relationship with Paul Simon as two flowers, no gardner.
But, with a manager type, isn’t catering to and celebrating the success of the performer built into the job?
This speaks possibly to some personality issues and insecurity issues- not just the sexist trope of its embarrassing my wife makes more money than me.

    Poor Kelly.
    She deserves so much better.

    • Merricat says:

Carrie Fisher was talking about herself. She was briefly married to Paul Simon.

      • Yvette says:

@Merricat … I think the ‘her’ in the “…described her relationship with Paul Simon…” sentence refers to Carrie Fisher.

      • Amy says:

Carrie Fisher was with Paul Simon off and on for 12 years, not just briefly.

  2. Jan says:

Brandon’s ex-wife must be looking at this divorce with just a tiny grim, what goes around comes around.

    • Haylie says:

Oh? Did he cheat on his ex with Kelly?

      • tig says:

basically – Kelly fell for him while he was still married.

      • Ummm says:

Lol kelly met him for a few minutes but she didn’t date him until his ex wife was married and the ex wife loves Kelly so I doubt there was any overlap

In fact the ex wife came out defending him when reports he cheated came out so you have your facts backwards

    • Merricat says:

Oh, did he steal money from his first wife, too?

  3. minx says:

Of course he was, but he liked the money that came from all her success.

SAME. I clocked that MoFo from DAY 👏🏽 ONE 👏🏽 . NEVER liked him. I also want to add a personal side eye to Blake Shelton because he encouraged the relationship and nudged Brandon to marry her.

  5. Lady D says:

I hope she will be okay, she deserves so much better than that cheating thief. Hopefully this tanks his career as a music manager.

  6. AnnaC says:

I can believe the financial shenanigans, but not so sure about the success jealousy. Wasn’t he the one who really pushed her to do the talk show as well as taking The Voice offer over American Idol, in part because it gave her more visibility and income?

    • Lucy says:

That’s how gaslighters work. Urge you to do the thing, then pout and hold it over you that you did the thing, how could you, didn’t you know how much that would hurt my pride? I only encouraged you to do it because I thought you wanted to do it, if you loved me you would’ve known….
The words change some, and most probably wouldn’t admit they’d initially encouraged. But anyway. That’s how it works.

    • Merricat says:

There’s also the “let me belittle you for the type of work you do while I “manage” (spend) the money you make earning it” approach, which is just dickish.

      • AnnaC says:

This I can totally see. Have a friend who works in the trades, loves what she does and is really good at it, married to a college graduate, think he has a masters, mid level manager at a large company. She makes significantly more than he ever will, he loves the lifestyle the income affords them/him, but wow is he the king of snarky comments about her job while bragging on himself.

  7. Lena says:

From what I’ve read, he’s quit as a music manager and wants a career change as a rancher on their Montana ranch. But with her prenup upheld she gets the ranch and wants to sell it as it takes $81000 a month to maintain. So unless he’s stockpiled enough to buy her out he’s out of luck.

    • Merricat says:

I think “stockpiling” is part of the fraud case against him. Lol, sure, he wants a career change.

      • Meg says:

I heard blake Shelton recently let him got as his manager too so i wonder if he saw some shady business himself
And in general, how someone treats others is how theyre going to treat you

    • Spikey says:

I’m just curious, how does it cost $81,000 a month to maintain? Is it a working ranch with employees?

      • Shoshone says:

It is probably not a real working ranch where the owners and their family have to work very hard to try to turn a profit. This is a mega rich persons trophy ranch. Those properties never turn a profit but their owners can afford the money to create a fantasy ranch that they enjoy. There are certainly employees on Kelly’s ranch some of which may be unnecessary or unneeded or even “friends” of the owner/manager which would raise the monthly overhead. Most real working ranches do not have a chef or maids or gardeners or separate managers like the showcase celebrity properties have. Real people have to cook and clean and work as ranch hands and manage their own properties.

Brandon was planning on having Kelly front almost a million dollars a year to keep his “pretend” ranch afloat so he could swan around and play cattle baron. I hope she gets back everything that is hers.

Source? I am part owner of a working ranch somewhere in the western US producing ethically pastured swine and grass fed cattle. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen a profit.

      • Juniper says:

@Shoshone, it reminds me of Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet – her “farming village” on the grounds of Versailles.

  8. Truthiness says:

“Jealous of her success” sounds a lot more genteel than “he was nailing every skirt he could get into a hotel room and then calling it a talent interview.” Since they have kids let’s go with the less salacious headline. She deserves better.

  9. Eurydice says:

“Jealous of her success” is stupid. This isn’t A Star is Born – who did he think he was marrying? He’s just a thieving rat bastard.

    • ama1977 says:

That’s what I want to know, how are you going to marry an incredibly famous pop star at the height of her fame and then become “jealous” of said fame?? It’s not like she was some little unknown before they married, she was a giant star when they met, FFS. And besides that, if you love someone, you want the best for them and their success is your success. Kelly definitely seems like the type to be open and appreciative of support “behind the scenes” so, how about support your wife so she can do what she’s good at and appreciate all of the perks it brings to your family?

  10. Rnot says:

I hope she finds happiness and I hope he drops off the face of the earth.

What stylist okayed that fuchsia dress and that makeup look? It’s a crime.

I get a similar feeling about Princess Beatrice’s husband. Something is way off about that guy and it’s going to end in tears.

    • K-Peace says:

I feel the same way about Princess Beatrice’s husband too. Exactly as you said—There’s something off about that guy. He doesn’t seem into her at all. You can just tell by body language; the way he (doesn’t) look at her; etc. So i just wonder why he married her. Probably for money & access.—Same as Kelly Clarkson’s douche of a husband who i got the exact same bad vibes from since from day one.

  11. Kristen says:

Didn’t Brandon’s father, who managed Reba’s career, cheat on her and dump her?
I never felt good about Brandon and then when I saw what his father did, I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop with Kelly.

  12. Renee says:

    Yess, his eyes look souless.

  13. Jayna says:

He might have been jealous, but he’s the one who was making a lot of money off of her and making as many deals as he could so he got a cut.
And they both lived a great lifestyle.

He pushed her into the TV talk show. At first she wasn’t interested. She felt it was too much for her with two seasons of The Voice to film every year and her career with two little kids, but he kept pushing. A big TV talk show on a major network and he gets his cut as her agent and an executive producer’s salary. Come on. He wanted that. He wasn’t doing what was best for them as a couple and Kelly as a mother. He saw dollar signs. Every success she had was a success for him also. It’s not like he had a lot of big-name artists, except for Blake. And I think he was only one of his managers.

    Kelly was his workhorse.

  14. JRenee says:

Kelly really was a star when they married. He was a big name in the agent business.
I know it’s not every time, but how often do we hear of some huge male celebrity naming his unknown wife as his agent/manager?
I believe the sentiment around here when they married was wishing Kelly the best and hoping that he wasn’t out to use her. Glad the prenup was upheld and she hired a financial forensic expert to trace her $$$

  15. Golly Gee says:

Why would she have to “fight“ to legally restore her maiden name?

  16. E.D says:

As others have said, he seemed shady as hell from day 1.

Side note: imagine being able to buy a house that costs only 3 months of your yearly income.

  17. TeeMajor says:

I’m so happy for Kelly a new start and hopefully a new BS detector implanted in her brain
He is JUST like his dad, a user and a slickster.

  18. Ummm says:

I don’t really understand why people lie that he got with her while married.
Kelly was interested but was like no as soo. As she saw the ring in fact when her daughter was born Melissa was one of the first to see the baby. I think they had a great rel hopefully he won’t affect her rel with her step kids

  19. Kaykay says:

I don’t know the man, but he has the same dead look in his eyes as my sociopath ex. Gives me the heebie-jeebies.
