Prince Andrew previews his legal strategy to attack Virginia Giuffre’s credibility

I don’t subscribe to the Telegraph, but I saw secondary coverage of the Telegraph’s latest efforts to advocate for Prince Andrew. It’s been happening throughout the week in the British media. Clearly, Buckingham Palace’s favorite Royal Rota reporters and columnists have alllll gotten calls, and the Campaign to Save Mummy’s Favorite has really begun in earnest. LaineyGossip had coverage of Camilla Tominey’s piece in the Telegraph, which served as an announcement that Andrew and his legal/palace team will be targeting Virginia Roberts Giuffre directly and personally. The York plan is to to put Virginia on trial, because… you know, she is a survivor of human trafficking and a rape victim. Tominey wasn’t the only royal reporter/commentator to get a call, obviously. Tom Sykes at the Daily Beast also got a preview of Andrew’s legal strategy and Sykes was pretty unimpressed. Some highlights:

Prince Andrew has dramatically accepted that he has been legitimately served with papers in the civil case being brought against him by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, but regards the lawsuit as an “opportunity rather than a threat,” sources close to Andrew have told The Daily Beast.

The well-placed source told The Daily Beast: “This is Mrs. Giuffre’s civil case, she has brought it and has actively invited legal scrutiny of her own version of events. This provides an opportunity, rather than a threat, because it finally enables the Duke and his team to properly scrutinize the multiple inconsistencies in her narrative.”

Among the inconsistencies Andrew is said to be keen to highlight is Giuffre’s description of Andrew drinking when she met him in the London nightclub Tramp, in a “journal” leaked to the Radar Online website. Andrew does not drink alcohol. Andrew brought this up in his BBC interview, saying: “I don’t know where the bar is. I don’t drink, I don’t think I’ve ever bought a drink in Tramp whenever I was there.”

The source said that Giuffre’s “inconsistency around alcohol” is one point that the prince’s team will bring up. In her “journal,” Giuffre did not, however, particularly paint Andrew as a drinker. She instead wrote that Andrew “did not hesitate to grab us both an alcoholic cocktail” and said “we took a few sips,” before going dancing. Prima facie, the notion that in a “packed” nightclub Giuffre might have mistakenly believed Andrew had ordered an alcoholic drink seems unlikely to demolish her credibility.

Andrew’s biggest problem, of course, is the photo of himself with Giuffre, with a leering Ghislaine Maxwell in the background of the shot (the photographer was reportedly Jeffrey Epstein). Andrew has said he has no recollection of ever meeting Giuffre. He has strongly implied that the notorious photograph, which shows him with his hand around Giuffre’s bare waist, is a fake. His friends have previously said that Andrew has “chubby fingers” that do not match those in the photo. Claims that the photo is fake have been comprehensively rubbished since they first emerged.

Sykes just kept on pounding away at how Andrew’s attempts to discredit Virginia are going to fall flat. But it is notable that Andrew has a media team and they’re actively trying to go out there and do… this. Call a human trafficker survivor a “liar” and suggest that Andrew doesn’t have chubby fingers.

Reportedly, Andrew is feeling very “stressed” and “worried” about the case, especially now that the American and British courts agree that he was properly served and that he cannot argue some minor technicality. There are also reports that Buckingham Palace is quite concerned that this lawsuit has “wider reputational implications for the institution of the monarchy.” Ya think? Those old farts are only NOW realizing that it looks pretty bad that the Queen’s favorite child raped a 17-year-old who was trafficked to him by a pedophile. They’re only just now realizing that this case might have wider implications for the monarchy! Apparently, BP is also worried that Andrew’s lawyers might suck. I think there’s a good chance that his legal team might be awful? Which is funny on many levels.

  1. PhD gossip says:

The legal team is awful because they were unable to make this case go away via $$$ and NDA.

  2. Amy Bee says:

The Royal rota say they report without fear or favour. This Andrew case shows that was a lie. Some months ago Camilla Tominey all but called Virginia a prostitute in one of her articles. There was also a story yesterday about Andrew saving a dog. Andrew would be better off settling the case.

  3. Steph says:

Listen, I can’t think of a better approach but is not going go work. How many times has her credibility held over the years? It’s solid.

    • Jan90067 says:

      Seriously!

And is his “I don’t drink” the new “I don’t sweat”?? Does he think this proves anything??

And WHO is saying he got an *alcoholic* drink??? You can get soft drinks and tonics at a bar, too, as well as just plain ice water.

I’m sure VG’s lawyers will be introducing Pedo’s disastrous TV interview and going through those inconsistencies frame by frame, as well as the pics of Pedo and Epstein, and Pedo opening the door to Epstein’s home to a young girl with a biiiiig smile.

      • cassandra says:

        Alsoooooo

You really want us to believe a man raised in that family and in that culture doesn’t drink? I swear I read or watched a day in the life of QE2 where she very publicly, with no shame, had multiple cocktails a day.

  4. Becks1 says:

I’m glad Tom Sykes at least is poking holes in Andrew’s defense.

For the drinking – that’s so obvious to me. If he ordered a coke, or a sprite, and ordered Virginia a rum and coke or a vodka tonic or whatever – she probably did not notice the difference between what she had and what he had. And I like how he says “I don’t even know where the bar is, whenever I’ve been in tramp…..” so admits that he has been in that nightclub.

I think this is going to be a lot messier for Andrew than for Virginia. She’s been through the court of public opinion already.

    • Merricat says:

Becks, you make too much sense. Lol. We’re on the same general brain path.

    • GraceB says:

This whole Andrew situation, the attempts to tear down VR, the denials, it’s all really triggering and upsetting for me to read. This is a huge scale story, but how many smaller but similar stories are out there and how many women have been destroyed by speaking out? I think VR is incredibly brave for taking this on and I really hope she continues, doesn’t take any private settlement and lets the world see that she’s telling the truth.

The way Andrew is handling this is sickening and it’s sickening that BP has reporters trying to defend him. Both BP & those reporters should be ashamed of themselves.

I really wish people had the same energy for starting a fire under Prince Andrew, as they do for following H&M’s every move. He will fight this with every underhand legal strategy and loophole they can find. The world needs to see him for what he is, but it feels like hardly anyone is even paying attention.

    • Nic919 says:

Andrew was buying alcoholic drinks for a minor so I’m not sure how that’s going to help his defence. She was drinking because of him since she wouldn’t have been able to get the drinks herself.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

This… this is the nail in the coffin to his “I don’t drink” defense. It’s so painfully obvious, as is his guilt and grotesque arrogance to think it makes any legal sense to use this claim as defense. Good god.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Not only claiming he doesn’t drink, those aren’t his fingers, due to them being chubbier, but what a breakthrough defense his legal team has, attack the victim? My, they are certainly members of MENSA to come out with this strategy!!! What a bunch of idiots!!

The Monarchy and PedoAndy had better put their seatbelts on as this isn’t going away, and VG has a solid case and has already won her case with Maxwell.
They should ALL be worried and no amount of hiding, or lies, is going to make this go away.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Everything has been handed to the pedo prince et al from birth, and every mess each of them has made has been cleaned up and brushed under the rug with little effort, and no accountability. That’s why it is so easy for him to believe his own bullshit lies.

    • Jaded says:

A witness came forward some time ago stating she saw Andrew and Virginia at Tramp and he was happy, smiling and dancing, but Virginia looked uncomfortable. She also recalled him being there because she accidentally stepped on his foot while dancing. I don’t know if this will be part of Virginia’s legal strategy but proof is out there.

    • BayTampaBay says:

One thing to remember is that Tom Sykes really does not care for the Mountbatten-Windsor family. Mr. Sykes has the typical “old titled aristo” disdain for Mountbatten-Windsor family.

  5. Merricat says:

The Fall of the British Monarchy begins with royal refusal of accountability. How shocked will they be to discover they are only humans, after all, in the court of global opinion?

  6. Sofia says:

Continuing to send prayers for Virginia. She’s already been through A LOT and I’m sure she was probably told Andrew and his lawyers would throw everything and the kitchen sink at her during this but it’s one thing to hear it and another for it to actually happen.

  7. A says:

I think he was better off keeping his p-do mouth shut.

  8. Jais says:

The way a good portion of the BM and royal reporters rep for prince Andrew is actually quite shocking. It feels like the norm now so sometimes I don’t even think about it but it’s actually really crazy. It just discredits the whole system of the monarchy and the royal media in the eyes of the world. But I don’t think they get that at all. They’re shameless and I wonder if they are truly delusional in thinking they’re on the right side of this. Like they think they’re really right. Imagine writing what CT does and sleeping at night. I think she sleeps fine though. Which is just wow.

  9. Feeshalori says:

Typical MO for the ratchets, abuse and blame the victim.

  10. Stacy Dresden says:

Raping her as a teen wasn’t enough for Prince Andrew.

  11. Lizzie Bathory says:

I don’t think this was ever going to be an easy case for Andrew’s lawyers, but I’m pretty sure they’re caving to the demands of a man who’s never been told “no” in his life. And Andrew’s strategy is to cover his ears & yell “I CAN’T HEAR YOU, VIRGINIA!”

    • JT says:

Yeah. I don’t think it’s a case of his lawyers being bad, but rather Andrew is as guilty as sin. How the hell are they going use chubby fingers as a defense? I’m happy that Virginia will get her day in court, but why didn’t the palace decide settle this? How f*cking dumb are they? It defies belief. I hope Virginia takes him to the cleaners.

    • Nic919 says:

To be honest the lawyers probably don’t have much to work with and so attacking the victim isn’t an unheard of strategy by defence lawyers. But no reporter should be actively helping them with the defence as Camilla seems to be doing. Is she getting paid extra on the side for this? Because this should damage her reputation forever.

      • Jennifer says:

Right, the lawyers don’t have much to work with here to “defend” him, so it’s not going to go well on their end.

  12. Capepopsie says:

Soo, we already know HRH PA simply can’t sweat, now we learn that he doesn’t even drink nor does he know where the bar is! Besides, his fingers are chubby! POWERFUL! 😑

  13. Chaine says:

I wonder if we will hear more about the infamous Pizza Express birthday party?

  14. Cessily says:

USA civil courtroom, USA jury, USA judge, and USA laws.. unspecified dollar amount, so sure heap more trauma on the victim see how much money jury’s can award. the British tabloids and RR do not control the narrative and most Americans do not start their days with tabloids.. also every one I have talked to believes Virginia one hundred percent.

  15. Tiffany says:

Not one person I know with common sense believe that Virginia is lying. Never. Not once.

Randy Andy is cooked and I hope it takes all of them down and that old bat that is his mother have this be her last legacy.

  16. Ana Maria says:

I do not understand why PA legal team is letting this escalate; why haven’t they tried to settle the lawsuit, or is it that they tried but did not reach an agreement?

  17. LMR says:

My goodness. If Andrew is the result when this incompetent queen puts effort into nurturing her child, then Britain should be grateful she didn’t take a similar interest in all her children. You could have been saddled with four Andrews instead of one. Kudos to the hired hands who raised Charles and Anne (for all their faults and I am not overlooking those).

    • Tessa says:

THe Queen Mother and Lord Mountbatten were both mentors of Charles. They did him no favors and he was made to believe he was the center of the universe. Thankfully Anne did not have them as mentors, she was better off.
