Prince William is doing a five-part Discovery streaming series about Earthshot

Royals Xmas Day church

It’s truly fascinating to see how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex became the blueprint for the crusty Windsors. The Windsors used their power and their media to marginalize, abuse and harass Meghan and Harry out of the country, and now those abusers are copying every single thing the Sussexes do. I can just imagine the look of smug contempt when Prince William worked out *his* streaming deal! William has worked out a deal with Discover+ to stream a limited series on the Earthshot Prize Awards. But…I thought streaming deals were un-royal and gauche? I thought it was all too Hollywood and déclassé? Oh well.

The Duke of Cambridge, 39, is ramping up for his Earthshot Prize Awards on October 17, and PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the ceremony at Alexandra Palace in London will be preceded by a five-part limited series on discovery+.

“We can create a different future, a better future,” William says in the trailer for the series, “but only if we reach for it now.”

Led by William, the teaser features some of the prestigious voices from The Earthshot Prize Council as they describe this moment as “the decisive decade” for turning the tide on climate change’s negative impacts on the planet.

One sentiment from the trailer is especially close to William’s heart when it comes to his ambitious initiative: “I want to be able to look back and say humanity woke up. We have this incredible opportunity,” says one voice.

[From People]

Well well. I’m genuinely assuming that the five-part series will be more about the nominees and their work, and it won’t just be five hours of Baldingham muttering “how will I look my children in the face if I don’t stand up and say I’m keen about the environment?!” Also: once I created the idea of a “Keenshot Prize,” I’m sort of mad that it’s not actually called that. I have to do a double-take every time now and remind myself that it’s not actually called Keenshot.

Surely you also heard that Prince Charles is getting into the streaming game too? Charles has teamed up with Amazon Prime to launch a “TV channel” called RE: TV. It’s all about sustainability, climate and environmental issues. I’m telling you… H&M were the blueprint. I seriously doubt there would be all of this movement towards streaming five-part limited series and creating Amazon Prime channels if Harry & Meghan had not gone there first.

This is the trailer for the “five part series,” which I guess will also air on the BBC. I guess Discovery+ is for the Americans who want to hear Baldemort talk about his keenness.

    Oh. my. God- this picture.

    THIS PICTURE!

Why is Baldemort touching this tree as if it was a ROSE BUSH?

    WHY?

  2. Aidevee says:

Well, I can’t be assed to watch it. Not until Prince Will stops shooting at wildlife and helicoptering from here to there.

    • lanne says:

I wonder if they’ll stop taking helicopters with the fuel shortage in the UK right now. Poor poppets might have to drive, or stay put like everyone else.

      • Aidevee says:

Nah, he’ll have his staffers out with Jerry cans casing all the fuel from the supermarket petrol stations. Gotta keep that fleet of range rovers going somehow and he’s an honest to god Key Worker!

      • SarahCS says:

I imagine they have their own pumps on the bigger estates, they just get a tanker sent straight to them.

      • BothSidesNow says:

Oh, how I wish I could be a super evil genius with millions of dollars and a few rocket launchers!!!! I would be delightfully willing to “fix” his need for petrol right up!!! Though, he will have to clean up my mess!! Oh well……what will HE do?!????

  3. Noki says:

Single white femaling will eventually take its toll, simply because its not genuine. They dont want to do more than the bare minimum and now cause of Sussexes they must appease the BM and the masses.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Noki, spot on!!! This sudden “woke” platform into the environment and what ever else the staff pull from their arses or underwear, will evaporate…..as there are those who refuse to work, period!!

    • GraceB says:

I watched the tribute to Prince Philip last night and the thing which got my attention the most was the fact that royals had been making TV shows for years. Prince Philip made a series about habitat loss, Edward made a few about… I don’t even know what.

Now most people seem to watch TV through streaming services, so it makes sense they’re being made for them. Not only have some royals made their own shows but we’ve seen plenty where they’ve had cameras following them for documentaries. So the H&M did it first and the royals are just copying angle doesn’t hold up, but neither does the argument it’s too Hollywood and not royal.

  4. girl_ninja says:

This will only become more and more embarrassing for Baldilocks and Keen. Trying to cosplaying the Sussex’s and pretending to work hard at something substantial.

  5. rawiya says:

Kaiser, you need to start putting warnings on his photos. Lawd, the inside is just clawing its way out, isn’t it? As my girl Angie said in Maleficent, “Well, well, well…” Seems like ere’body wants streaming deals now. I can’t wait until one of the BRFs announces a podcast. They don’t have an original bone in their body. They just sit back and watch what Harry and Meghan do and then do the blander, less inspired version of.

    • SarahCS says:

Seconded. I scrolled past as fast as I could but that image will stay with me for some time now. I need a palate cleanser…

      • BothSidesNow says:

I will make a third declaration!!!! Is Baldimort having a wet dream with that tree, or something? My gosh, I bet the noses aristos will be keeping an eye on Baldimort, working in the bushes!!!! Or wanting desperately to, with the look on his face!! Is that his home run face?

      • Lady D says:

“Is that his home run face?” LOL and gag and spew. Glad I wasn’t eating.

  6. Eurydice says:

But, but, but, the HYPOCRICY!! How DARE a rich entitled man lecture the world on GLOBAL WARMING?!! HE takes PRIVATE PLANES and HELICOPTERS!! GAS-GUZZLING SUVs!! Woke, Woke, Woke, WOKE, WOKE!!! *cough, cough* *ack* *cough* Sorry, something got stuck in my throat…

    • atorontogal says:

Careful. It could be a piece of Piers Morgan’s BS stuck in there!

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yes, and we will see the RR coming out of the sewers declaring how forward thinking and “woke” Baldimort is, as he molests that tree down to its last ring, a king he is!!! Always ahead, blah, bloop, blah, di-da, bloop, di-da……

  7. Amy T says:

Climate change matters a lot, but this is just sad. And sloppy. And awkward.

    Also kind of karmic.

    {Shakes head. Rolls eyes. Goes to get more coffee….}

  8. Aurora says:

It’s a brilliant initiative that allows him to take credit for others ideas. Note that the funding only comes after contestants have created a successful initiative for which they “win” the Eathshot prize. So Willileaks is guaranteed to be attached to successful green initiatives.

Taking credit for the work of other people is the Keen strategy.

    • L4frimaire says:

So this was basically the same premise that awful reality charity show that was just cancelled. Charities competing for the prize, but with a classier veneer and less crying . I don’t know, all these different prizes out there but we still don’t have one bullet train in this country, half of the senate seems to be owned by the energy industry and a lot of the wealthy people funding these prizes pay less in income taxes than the secretaries at their organizations. Look, everyone in a position of power advocating for the environment is a good thing and I’m sure this will help good organizations. Just can’t stand the hypocrisy and nastiness around this guy and the fact he’s such a nasty little weasel who is fundamentally lazy, racist and small minded, who blatantly copies others work and ideas ( not just his brother and SIL) and expects to be exalted for it . It’s like he’s green washing himself. Both him and his father act as if they deserve the tv deal like it’s a new toy, since Harry got one, except for Harry, it’s a real job for him with real focus and goals. William is a dilettante, who wants to show he is serving with purpose, but really isn’t that interested in his actual purpose as an heir to the throne ( so boring). But hey, he’ll wear a tux, make a speech, and the press will write “ take that Harry and Meghan” afterwards. I hope the award recipients get the lions share of the press write ups and attention.

  9. Becks1 says:

I’m not sure how popular Discovery+ is, and anyone I know who has it (raises hand) has it for either Chip and Joanna, Guy Fieri, or David Attenborough. Or true crime. I’m not watching Prince William on it. But that is where his nature documentary from a year ago can be found in the US.

we just use it for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives lol. And Planet Earth and Nature’s Great Events. So I’m a royal follower who loves nature documentaries and I am not watching this, ha.

What I will say though is that on its face this is a decent idea, I did look at the KP post with the nominees for the prize and it was flat because they all sounded like they were doing good work and there wasn’t enough context etc. So the extent this series focuses on the nominees and not on William it could be okay.

    • MMadison says:

It’s a recycled idea. It’s being done by another organization. Baldness just put his name to an existing idea. There’s nothing new or creative just William trying to be relevant. My issue with this is that KP put out this statement of William working with Bloomberg. At this point it’s confusing as to what is the focus of the Royal Family. Why not highlight his own countrymen like Richard Branson or someone else from the UK or the Commonwealth. What exactly is the RF’s brand?

      • Becks1 says:

Trust me, I know the idea of Earthshot is recycled. Don’t worry, I’m not giving William credit for it. My point was that the actual streaming series was a decent idea, and even in saying that I’m not giving William credit because we all know it wasn’t his idea.

      • MMadison says:

@Becks1: Agreed. On the same page with you on this one

      • booboocita says:

There is no RF brand. There’s just Baldemort trying to play in the USA media market, and only because the Sussexes do so and do it on a massively successful scale. “Partnering” with Bloomberg and Discovery+, USA media groups, will — he hopes — give him some visibility in the USA, in a way that working with Branson or another UK figure won’t.

It won’t work, of course. Discovery+ isn’t exactly one of the major streaming players, and even if it were, poor Baldemort simply doesn’t have the charisma or star wattage of his little brother. Ooof. Sucks to be you, dude.

      • MMadison says:

@booboccita: My problem is that William is as we are told often…The future King of England. He should focus his time and efforts there, not in the USA. Harry was right. William is trapped and William knows this. His future has already been determine. He will spend the rest of his life doing exactly what his grandmother and Father are doing…planting trees, ribbon cutting, lot of hand shaking and the like. Harry will have the luxury to pick and choose what he wants to do and that is killing William to his core. Not only does Harry get to do what Harry wants and when he wants to do it he gets to do it with the women he loves in a country that accepts him for what he is. In comparison William has Kate and British Press…YIKES

      • Keri says:

They are desperately trying to make themselves happen in the US. I’m calling it now. The ratings will be dismal for both Cain and Chuckles’ streaming deals while anything Harry and Meghan do will be a home run. The Royals are opening themselves up to further humiliation and I’m here for it. It’s a one-sided, single white femaling competition and they’re too arrogant to realize that they will always be on the losing end in comparison to the Sussexes.

    • HeatherC says:

Shark Week. You forgot Shark Week.

    • North of Boston says:

I was originally thinking about getting Discovery+ when it launched, but the non-stop onslaught of ads for the service on every channel turned me off it. I had enjoyed Fixer Upper when it was on, but the Chip and JoJo portion of the D+ ads was so OTT and canned that it made me retroactively annoyed at Fixer Upper.

This Keenshot thing just seems scattered and not well organized, thought out. Maybe the awards will bring attention to worthy initiatives, but it would be better if it had patrons who were enthusiastic, ambitious and energetic about the cause.

  10. Neners says:

They copy everything but the work ethic, the sincerity, and the not being a taxpayer burden.

  11. Sunshine says:

So, it’s now “prestigious” voices as opposed to “woke?”

  12. Giiiirl says:

I’m cracking up at how Diana snatched his good looks.

    • Neners says:

She said, “You’re not about to be out here putting my face to your mediocrity. Enjoy those Windsor genes!”

    • Southern Fried says:

Touching the tree eyes closed trying to look sincere. The village idiot.

    • L84Tea says:

I have such a reaction when I see him. First my face cringes and then a sound sort of like “Ychhblarghhh” comes out of my mouth.

  13. Carito says:

The true ECO WARRIOR!!!! I mean the DM is so blatant in their hate for H and M calling them eco warriors in an article with pictures of them arriving to LA, meanwhile Baldemort is over there creating an award and now a series about climate.
I want to know how much is this deal??!!!

    • FC says:

Very excited to hear about Will’s “wokeness” for the next month. Or because it’s William is it “forward-thinking?”

    • L4frimaire says:

What’s ridiculous is they are calling H&M eco warriors when the main purpose they were in NY specifically to address vaccine equity and more people in the global south getting the vaccine, and debunking misinformation about the vaccines. But to the UK tabloids, every time the Sussexes do anything, it’s because they are being hypocritical eco- warriors preaching to us, demanding things. Good lord🙄.

  14. Kalana says:

Discovery + made the biggest offer to Meghan and Harry but they choose Netflix.

How much did they offer William and where did the money go? There’s not a single mention in the article about money

    • nina says:

Discovery+ was trying to latch on to H&M’s coat tails to revive a dying network. They did the right thing. Netflix allows them a wider creativity range.
Discovery+ you watch at 2 am in the morning when you trying to get over your buzz and are too tired to move your ass to bed.

  15. Amy Bee says:

I guess having a deal with a streaming service is ok now.

  16. LP says:

This is the only thing that baldy can attach himself to as some sort of achievement and it’s not even his funding or his personal work. He’s invested nothing into this. I can’t put any other achievement to his name. Once this is over in October what else will he have to do? Even with the so called “prestigiousness” of this award it’s barely hitting headlines. No one really cares. He wants the notoriety and he’s still not getting it. Oh well.
But good luck to whoever wins the award.

  17. Sofia says:

So William has gone from “The BBC should never ever air my mother’s interview ever again and f**k them for taking advantage of her” to “Here’s my 5 party documentary airing exclusively on the BBC in the UK”

Edit: I understand why he picked the BBC but I just find it amusing that he’s forgiven them so easily.

    • Layla says:

He picked BBC because their petty behaviour matches his. They’re bitter about being accused of libel by H&M so they excluded their speech in the Global Citizen Concert. Kind of like how Willileaks behaves on a regular basis

    • Harper says:

It’s the same old thing. Burger King latching on to David Attenborough and the BBC for another environmental doc that people don’t tune into. It appears that Burger King’s ego is so big that he wants to be credited as the ONE who saved the planet despite taking 57 or something helicopter trips during a year when the world was shut down.

  18. ABritGuest says:

Remember when Harry& Meghan split from KP how the press claimed that it was because heirs were restricted from doing some of the commercial activities H&M wanted to do? How things change.they claim Charles isn’t being paid for editing the channel but what about the license to Amazon? Same with Discovery-where does the licensing fee go? It’s interesting how they don’t ask any questions of the heirs but have all the energy for those the public aren’t paying for.

Also remember when palace staff said it was bad taste for Harry to appear on BBC strictly to support a friend due to Diana panorama investigation but now it’s been found BBC were in the wrong it’s fine for William to work with them. Interesting

Anyway good luck to all the earthshot nominees.

  19. NCWoman says:

It’s cute that you don’t realize H&M are money shots. Like Beyonce, they don’t have to call anyone. Also, don’t try to degrade Megan with this “first wife” BS.
Edit: I thought I was replying to someone, so this makes no sense now lol

    • Becks1 says:

@NCWoman – it was probably a comment that got deleted. If someone is obviously trolling, which it sounds like that comment was, you can just comment “troll” and that helps CB/Kaiser to identify the comment quickly and delete it .

  20. Chantal says:

    How very “Hollywood” of him…

  21. Lizzie says:

It will be underwhelming with low ratings just like his documentary.

  22. MY3CENTS says:

I’m still waiting on that YouTube channel….

  23. Over it says:

If duke of incandescent of baldinham is involved, save yourself the trouble and watch something else on Netflix

  24. Layla says:

“I want to look back and say “Humanity woke up”. You mean to say you want to look back so you can float about how YOU “made humanity wake up, Everything is about you, so give YOU all the credit” A—h-le

  25. Merricat says:

The problem with Earthshot is William. No one outside of royalists gives a fig about watching him or listening to him talk. Same with Charles.

    • Becks1 says:

Yup. Can you imagine if Harry was doing this? It would be covered nonstop.

I also think part of the problem is how KP/the Cambridges roll out any project, with drips and cutesy IG teasers etc for months on end. It’s meant to build interest/suspense but I think it just makes the whole thing seem boring.

      • NightOwl says:

That’s interesting. I like Harry and Meghan’s approach of giving very little notice and just delivering the actual goods for maximum effect. KP’s style of announcing and building (in their imaginations) suspense is old fashioned PR. It doesn’t work anymore. We are in the age of always on, streaming, and shorter attention spans. If you grab my attention, I am no longer wired to mark it in my calendar and get excited about it. Grab my attention and use my time well.

      • Merricat says:

Yes, and they do that because their contribution is so minute, so without substance, they have to drag things out to make it seem bigger than it is.

  26. Harla says:

    47 helicopter trips during a global pandemic….

    • Sid says:

I can’t get over it. That is almost 1 trip per week. During a pandemic where they did practically no public engagements, the children were being homeschooled, they were allegedly quarantining in Norfolk, etc., so what was it for? And is that how Willileaks picked up COVID? Was he using the helicopter to go out and visit a “friend?”

  27. Nicki says:

One big difference – Harry and Meghan always back up their publicity-style work with tangible action. They’re delivering meals in the pandemic, donating hats for infants, setting up emergency food kitchens for hurricane victims, and always donating money as well. The royals just do the PR part. It’s an empty gesture. H and M, by contrast, make a real impact. People can see and feel that difference.

  28. Lowrider says:

Bill is a fraud. Disingenuous, hypocritical, duplicitous sneak.

I don’t trust anything he attaches his name too. I think he is disgusting.

  29. nina says:

Yeah yeah yeah. We heard him already. He is giving away other people’s money to people who are doing what he is too assed to do. He could stop his giant carbon foot print for starters and stop trying to make fetch happen. His desperation at trying to outdo H&M is starting to be embarrassing to watch.

Discovery Channel, the same channel that has numerous shows on ghost hunting, home improvement shows? I guess the more relevant networks said a hard no. Only reason I have Discovery Channel is because it is part of my internet package.

    • Lizzie says:

      Your description of the content is correct even though more networks are included;

Discovery Plus is home to an extensive library of content from 14 networks, including Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, Food Network, HGTV, ID, A&E, History, Lifetime, OWN, Travel, Science Network, The Dodo, and more. … A new feature, called “Discovery Plus Channels,” is also available.Aug 3, 2021

    • Becks1 says:

It’s not even the Discovery channel. It’s the streaming service, so you have to pay extra for it. We do bc that’s where all the Planet Earths etc are now, and that’s where all the Food Network and HGTV shows are – but a LOT of people don’t know about it and if they know, they aren’t going to subscribe.

(and yes, there are ghost hunting shows there too lol.)

  30. Margaret says:

The more I look at william he strongly favor the alleged illegitimate son of cammie and Charles, except the other fellow is older. But definitely he could be Williams brother.

    • nina says:

LOL. Poor Chuck and Cammie. Can’t get away from that story. Its been dogging them for years. Either that guy is bat shit crazy or he has a valid claim.

  31. Sunday says:

What I don’t get is, now Will & Charles have both cut streaming deals focused on the environment – why aren’t they working together instead of creating this weird redundancy of lackluster content? Especially since Will obviously threw a dart at a list of causes, hit ‘environment’ and shrugged, while Charles does seem to have actual interest in the cause. So why not collaborate? They’d have all the PR around ‘sharing this passion has brought the heirs even closer’ and would yield higher viewership numbers by combining the struggle views from their each of their fan bases. It just seems like such a no-brainer and yet it’s just one more unsurprising pr strategy fail from the windsors. So bizarre.

    • Merricat says:

Charles doesn’t want William to take credit for HIS work, and William doesn’t want to do any work of his OWN, hence the awarding of money (not his) to people who ARE doing the work.

  32. Lila says:

I hope Discovery+ has good ideas. Good directors. Good composers. Good writers. I guarantee Baldemort is going to want to shoot his entire role in a day, say a couple words about being environmentally keen, and then exit (via helicopter). There’s no way he’s bringing much of anything to the table.

Although I’m sure Mumble McButtons will want to theme dress and bring out the kids, so that could be a whole episode. Garden party? Forest Nymph? Irish flag green? She’s got options.

  33. Cel2495 says:

    Ewww that pic!

Lol, they are pathetic, keep copying but falling flat.

  34. Lizzie says:

And just like that TOB has a woke, Hollywood, money grubbing streaming deal.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

Has Piers tweeted yet about TOB’s & Charles’ streaming deals? Saying things like watching their woke shows would be like dental surgery, it’s humiliating to the BRF and shaming to The Queen? The hypocrisy is real.

  35. Lizzie says:

Discovery Plus is currently advertising Curse of the Chippendales on this site. LOL, great company for TOB.

    • nina says:

Sweet Jaby Besus. You cant make this crap up. When are they going to admit the monarchy has run its course and just go away and enjoy their billions in private.

  36. jferber says:

God, he takes shockingly bad photos. He even does the hand-waggling that Kate so oddly does. Is this their take on being dynamic and lively? They fail! He’s scratching his neck like he has fleas. In the first pic, it looks like he’s playing a very bad version of Hamlet. He is a piss poor future future king. His grift has no mojo.

  37. RoyalBlue says:

#notwilliam #neverwilliam. William is a madman and I will not support him. If it were someone else, but not him. he needs help.

  38. Silent Star says:

I wonder how many viewers will tune in. I personally have never heard or seen anything about the Earthshot Prize, except for mentions of it here on CB. Although it’s an important topic, I just don’t know that there’s an audience for it. I hope it is presented in a way that shows the real positive impact on climate change.

  39. Marivic says:

These two Cambridges are pathetic copycats of the Sussexes.
