Fellow fans of Russian Doll, our wait is over. Netflix has finally announced the premiere date for season two: April 20. The date came with a teaser for the second season, and I think the less said about it, the better. Here it is:

Yeah, I have no idea what’s going on. We know that Nadia and Alan supposedly broke their time-loops at the end of season one but what happened next was a big question mark. And that’s what this teaser is too. I remember the trailers for season one. I thought I knew what the show was about and then everything got turned on its ear in episode three. So I like that they aren’t even trying to suggest that I’ll know what’s about to transpire. The official description is as follows:

“Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure, but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.”

Well, that clears up… nothing. I think that’s on me, though. I need to rewatch season one to remind myself of a few things. Didn’t they go back in time a bit – or was that flashbacks? I’m encouraged with Nadia’s line in the teaser about letting the universe mess with you. Since she spent so much of season one fighting that, season two sounds like it will take the opposite approach, which should keep it fresh. As you know, that’s been my concern. I still feel that season one could have been a one and done but since the show was designed as a three-season show, I have to trust Natasha Lyonne and the other creators.

I’m not mad that there is so much ambiguity to both the trailer and the description. The reveal is the heart of the show, so I’m just happy to have a premiere date and no clue what I’m getting myself into. The only question I’ll ask of you guys, since I’ve only been to Manhattan a couple of times: what do you think the “most notorious location” is? My guess is Grand Central Station. The header shot suggests The Basilica’s of St. Patrick’s Cathedral’s catacombs might make an appearance. I hope they incorporate the underground tunnels, both truths and myths.
