As the world dissects Oscar fashion, Ikea wants us to relook at homewear. Maybe not a couture statement, but more of a camping statement. They are, after all, a furniture store. However, now they’re dipping an assemble-yourself toe into the world of fashion. And just as you would expect, it’s in the weirdest way possible. I’m not condemning their foray into fashion, I’m just pointing out that yeah, this is exactly what I would expect from Ikea’s clothing label: Fältmal AKA the Quillow. The Quillow sports a stunning high cowl neck and long sleeves, cut to reach the knuckle, but can be rolled for a sportier look. Featured in this season’s It color, Canteen Green, and accented with a giant neon orange rectangle once unzipped, perfectly mapping out where your cat can sleep because let’s face it, you’ll be more comfortable than ever in this fluffy number. Ikea, the Swedish furniture mecca we best associate with flat-pack products and 99p meatballs, has just dropped what we’re pegging as the best park gear, well, ever. True to the nature of the globally recognised brand, the Fältmal “quillow” is essentially an unpackable cushion, which when unfolded takes the form of a full-length wearable sleeping bag.

The innovative padded product has been cut from 100 per cent nylon, features two sleeves, a button fastening at the back, a handy pocket and comes in a park-appropriate deep green colourway. What’s not to love?

Here are my objections to the Quillow: 1) It’s too cozy. Parent teacher conferences would becoming increasingly awkward, “Ms. Hecate, we’re going to need you to stay awake if you want us to resolve this matter.” Driving a car would become hazardous. 2) It folds up conveniently into a pillow. That’s marvelous for anyone who has to endure any amount of time in stadium seats or any other unforgiving seating situation. But what if I forget to wear something underneath? I shuffle out of my house to the local Easter Parade only to find it’s curb-sitting only. No worries, I have this pillow right here! Oh dear, Mom’s made the front page of the paper again.

Honestly, I want to say this walking sleeping bag is silly, but it looks ridiculously comfortable. I love that it’s made from recycled material and it’s machine washable so it’s practical. In US dollars, it retails for about $40, that’s a decent price for something’s that’ll get a lot of wear. I’m obviously joking about wearing this to events like teachers’ conferences and court appearances, but camping? Evenings at the beach? Hell, even a movie night at home – it would be perfect. As you can see in the video below, it snaps in back and is worn like a smock. Walking would be tough with the extra length so you’d need a free hand to hike it up. But how amazing is it that when it’s unzipped, the mesh pocket becomes a built-in fanny pack? Mark my word, we’ll be seeing designer versions of this everywhere from the Met Gala to the MTV Awards. Just remember when you’re bedazzling your Quillow for your cousin’s wedding, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky forged the path for quilted couture.
