Jennifer Coolidge: I got a lot of action out of my character on American Pie

When you think of the unique benefits that come with your job, what do you think of? I’m able to hold my own in a conversation with younger generations about pop culture. It’s one of the few areas I don’t embarrass my kids. It’s a weird brag, but it is a perk. Jennifer Coolidge was able to add 200 notches to her bedpost after filming American Pie. That’s not something Bank of America offers in its benefits package. Jennifer is currently filming the second season of The White Lotus. She is the only guest coming back for the second season. She’s up for an Emmy for her portrayal of Tanya. Shockingly her first nomination, but she is the favorite so far. So she got a huge profile in Variety. Almost the entire write up is about season one of The White Lotus. It’s a great interview for people who know nothing about Jennifer. But for her fans, the interviewer took it upon themselves to explain Jennifer to the reader more than let her speak for herself. The very best part of the whole piece were the supporting videos Jennifer did, like this one posted to Twitter, in which Jennifer let us know how much action American Pie got her:

My gawd, what that movie did for the sex lives of Jennifer Coolidge, baked apple confectionary and flutes. Do I think Jennifer can credit 200 conquests to AmPie? I have no idea but I hope so. She really has played such a unique range of characters. I’d forgotten she played that MILF character because I associate her more with Paulette from Legally Blonde. But the Variety piece referenced her work with Christopher Guest and I also refer back to her trophy wife from Best in Show all the time (we love soup). The White Lotus is considered Jennifer’s comeback, but I didn’t realize she’d gone anywhere. The article pointed out she disappears for a while, but it sounds like it’s on her terms. The byline for the article said that “Hollywood didn’t get her.” Is that true? I feel like everyone got her and all it took was for her to film something new for the next generation to get her too. Like I said, I felt like the writer thinks he understands Jennifer and we don’t.

Although maybe not everyone does. The article started off with a story about the Legally Blonde musical. Jennifer said her agent called her and told her they wanted her to fly to London for an audition. She was incensed – still – that they hadn’t offered her the part outright. Her agent tried to rationalize that the producers just wanted to make sure she could dance and sing. But as Jennifer so eloquently stated, “Look, if I got up onstage and farted, and that’s all I did, it would still be the lady from the movie!” And that’s why Jennifer racks up 200 suitors from a single role.

    200 partners? Ummm…yuck.

    • Ipetgoat2 says:

      What do you mean?

    • M says:

      Don’t yuck someone’s yum, Mattylove.

    • Gwenda says:

      More like yay!

    • A says:

      Jealous you weren’t 201? Because I am

      • Normades says:

Maybe she’s exaggerating? Her delivery seemed like deadpan humor.
Anyway I love her. Brilliant comedian and brilliant in White Lotus, I hope she wins.
She apparently lives in a gothic mansion in New Orléans. The photos are amazing, love the style.

      • A says:

        @Normades
Yeah, I think the number was supposed to be a joke, too. I love her as well and I am not here for anyone sl*t-shaming Coolidge. Especially under the guise of caring about her health, which I see is Matty’s excuse.

You can be all for sexual empowerment while also advocating for responsible sexual practices. 200 sexual partners (which, as you point out, may be more exaggeration for entertainment purposes than actual truth) is irresponsible health behavior. I work in a Title X clinic where I provide reproductive health care for teens and young adults. I teach safer sex practices to all my patients so they have accurate information to make whatever sexual choices they want and to do it in the safest way possible. But it’s not without risk. If I’ve got a patient with 200 sexual partners, major alarm bells are going off in regards to the health-and not just with me. With the nurses, the social workers, my partners, etc.

Do you feel the same about Nick Cannon spreading his junk everywhere? Independent of the number of children he is able to produce relative to someone with a uterus, he’s also engaging in extraordinarily risky health behaviors.

Would you feel the same if it were your sibling, child, parent with 200 sexual partners? Or would it be “slut shaming” to have concerns for them, too?

      • Emmi says:

God I hope the teens you talk to have other people in their lives to teach them about sex.

So what’s an acceptable number then? 1? 30? I‘m so curious now.

      • Veronica S. says:

Beyond the fact that she’s more than likely exaggerating for humor, it’s inane to compare her to Nick Cannon because the issue isn’t that he likes sex but that he keeps producing kids he can’t afford either financially or in terms of personal investment. Coolidge is not popping out babies left and right. That tells us she’s being responsible in some way or anywhere, and how she’s doing that is not any business but her own. None of us are privy to our partners’ business provided they’ve got a clean bill of health and aren’t cheating.

Teenagers having 200 partners would be a problem because they’re not mentally or physically mature enough to deal with the potential consequences of that behavior. An adult woman who clearly isn’t exhibiting major mental health issues is an entirely different beast. She wants to sleep with 200 men, I could care less. She’s an adult and can make her own decisions.

      • Erling says:

You’re comparing the hypothetical sexual history of a teenager to that of a 60-year-old woman who’s describing (very roughly and likely humorously) the number of people she’s shagged since her movie came out *23* years ago, and you work in healthcare? Yikes.

    • Emmi says:

      You seem like fun.

    • MattyLove says:

200 hundred sexual partners is a significant health risk. As a health care provider: yuck.

      • Stef says:

@Matty Seems you’re slut shaming under the pretence of what you deem to be “health practices”.

Luckily, Jennifer doesn’t care what you think and your judgement of her says more about you than anything else. She doesn’t mention unsafe sexual practices so you’re assuming a lot about someone you don’t even know.

Save your judgement for the mirror

She’s incredible and they didn’t get her. She’s one of the funniest people I ever met, and she stands up for people she likes.

  3. MeganC says:

I want to get invited to her Halloween party. It looks amazing.

  4. TwinFalls says:

I saw that headline yesterday and cracked up. Best in Show is one of my all time favorite movies but she’ll always be Stifler’s mom. I didn’t love White Lotus, sorry.

  5. SAS says:

She’s absolutely gorgeous and such a brilliant comic actress. I’m glad she knows how beloved she is.

  6. outoftheshadows says:

Just here to honk for Jennifer Coolidge. She is hilarious.

  7. J Ferber says:

I loved her in Best in Show, White Lotus and the recent romcom about Christmas ( forgot the name). The woman can do anything. I also saw her playing a mean stylist in an amazing film starring a German actor (sorry, again forgot title). She’s excellent and hilarious.

  8. olliesmom says:

The only reason that I put up with Two Broke Girls all those seasons was because of Jennifer!

  9. Anners says:

*love* Jennifer Coolidge. She’s one of the best parts of my secret comfort film Austenland (jj feild was the best, if you’re wondering lol). May she he in everything, always.
