John Stamos: ‘If you see me, ask for a picture. I’m happy to do it’

John Stamos is a 59-year-old man married to woman 23 years younger than him and they have a four-year-old son together. He seems very… arrested in development I’ll say that. I just side eye men who have babies in their 50s with much younger women. After seeing his CBS Sunday Morning interview, I still side eye him a little but came away with more respect for him. He’s in a Disney Plus series, Big Shot, where he plays a girls’ basketball coach. He open up to CBS correspondent Tracy Smith about his DUI arrest and sobriety, about losing Bob Saget, and about being famous. I especially liked what he said about fame so I made that the title of this story.

On being an adult
I went into being an adult kicking and screaming. I didn’t have any of those tentpoles that say you’re an adult, I was just skating through. I didn’t have to [be an adult]. I had Peter Pan syndrome.

On being famous
I wanted to be famous so bad and then once I got it I loved it. I still do. If you see me somewhere, ask for a picture. I’m happy to do it. It’s what I wanted my whole life.

On losing Bob Saget
One of the biggest influences in my life was Bob. I wouldn’t be who I am without Bob. He was there for everything. He was my brother.

On his alcoholism
When I was not sober, when I was fuzzy, I thought, ‘I’ve done it all.’ I didn’t wanna kill myself, but I didn’t care if I died. I said, ‘I’ve done it all. if I die tomorrow, it’s OK.’ What was I thinking? I hadn’t done it all; I still haven’t done it all, not even close.

On his 2015 DUI arrest
You know, that fateful night, I got in my car, I thought I could drive, and I couldn’t. I just have flashes in my mind about driving in circles. And people were driving near me and they would roll the window down, ‘Uncle Jesse, pull over!’ And I went to rehab, and it was the hardest thing ever.

I thought I was fooling everybody. When that happened I thought ‘I can’t screw this up anymore, I have to stay with this.’

[From CBS Sunday Morning, some quotes via Yahoo!]

How nice is it when a celebrity is happy to take pictures with fans? I understand when celebrities want their privacy and family time, but it’s so nice when they’re open and friendly like this. I’m reminded of The Rock, who isn’t my absolute favorite but he does go out of his way to be gracious and take photos with everyone.

As for the rest of his interview, he didn’t get too into the details of his sobriety but I appreciate when celebrities talk about being sober and happy about it. That was the first step for me in feeling better about myself and my relationships. I realize that not everyone is an alcoholic and not everyone needs to quit, but when you need to it’s an incredible change.

A friend was at a wellness retreat several years ago, and he was there with his newly pregnant wife. My friend said he could not have been nicer or more friendly.

He is just sooooo handsome. I too side eye men who marry late in life to younger women and have children. That is why as much as I adore George Clooney, I’m just like…”yikes.” But hey, love is love and they seem to be in great places in life with their marriages and children. Stamos and Clooney both.

I am happy that John is sober and seems to be thriving. He seems like such a dear, I hope that he really is.

I love seeing stories like this. He has always seemed like a genuinely nice guy. There’s so many Hollywood-types that turn out to be gross and vile human beings… maybe there’s a few good ones left? Thanks for providing me with some hope Mr. Stamos.

To me, he has always given off good guy vibes. I enjoyed his and wife’s Architectural Digest video from a few years ago.

Damn, he is still SO handsome. I totally would.

Also, love that he is sober and that he admits he loves being famous. The honestly makes me like him more!

    What a nice story.
Very good to hear a celeb be grateful and nice to fans.
I love that he admits he finally grew up, good to hear he is sober and happy.
Probably a good thing he waited, grew up, then had kids.
More folks need to realize if they are not ready to have kids, then wait.

His little boy is so dang cute!

Honk for happy, sober, loving-being-famous John Stamos!

    I love uncle Jesse ❤️🫶🏻

Do you also side eye the women who get knocked up by older men, marry them, and have those children? If it’s creepy for one consenting adult, it’s creepy for both.

    • Sigmund says:

…do you REALLY not see the power difference between someone who is two decades older, famous, and wealthy, and someone who isn’t?

That being said, she is an adult, and if they’re happy, that’s their business. But it’s disingenuous to pretend they’re coming from equal footing.

John and Caitlyn did a jewelry line or a jewelry tie in thing a few years ago where 100% of the proceeds went to a children’s charity.

John seems to be a very nice, friendly guy who I will forever associate with 1) playing the drums with The Beach Boys and 2) his ex-wife being married to Jerry O’Connell (they also seem like a great couple, and both very nice people. Its just something I think about when I see stories about him).

He looks better than guys half his age IMO. I’m a year or two younger than his wife and would totally marry him and have kids with him. I think his wife is pretty involved in progressive political issues and is outspoken about gun control and women’s right and seems pretty cool too.
