Prince William made his first TikTok, plus a staffer tweeted words in Welsh

Prince William was active on social media on Tuesday, ahead of his travels to Boston today. First off, Tuesday was the big World Cup match between England and Wales. As you probably remember, William ignorantly bumbled into deep sh-t when he made a special effort to wish England good luck in the World Cup. The issue was that William is currently Prince of Wales, and he literally did nothing to support or praise the Welsh team for qualifying for the World Cup for the first time in decades. When he was called out by Welsh people, all he did was whine about how he’s always supported England and he couldn’t change loyalties in the name of diplomacy now. An idiot. Anyway, ahead of the World Cup match, someone on William’s staff tweeted this:

What’s really funny about this is that whenever William tweets something directly, he adds a “W” to the end of the tweet as a signature. No “W” signature on this tweet. Meaning… he didn’t tweet it and these aren’t even his sentiments. He can’t even read or speak that line in Welsh. Ah, well, England won the match. England is on to the Round of 16! As is Team USA. I Believe That We Will Win.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Boston trip, Lord Peggington joined TikTok and made his first one for Earthshot. Which is just a reminder that William and Kate have people on their staff – full-time employees, mind you – tasked with doing this sh-t. Remember when their staffers were making weird fancams of their events? LOL. They haven’t been doing that since the promotion. I guess it’s all about TikToks now. This one is poorly produced – I mean, it’s slick enough and I’m sure Kensington Palace is convinced that the youths will love it, but the whole “William grimaces and places the camera on the ground” thing should have been taken out.

The tik tok account is actually Earthshot’s not KP. I can’t imagine that William and Kate would open their own. If they do it will end up like their YouTube channel. Plus their Social media guy, the one who used to work for Harry and Meghan, left KP in September and it’s not clear if he’s been replaced yet.

    • JanetDR says:

Well that explain why we had a chance to see some of the people who are doing the work at last!

    • katherine says:

Omg I didn’t know he left! LOL he must’ve realized trying to make Will & Kate look relevant and interesting was like putting lipstick on a pig. Also, a young, innovative creative mind working in a stuffy old racist institution like that? No wonder he left.

  2. girl_ninja says:

The obligatory photo with a pretty black young woman. I cannot stand this yellow tooth racist troll.

  3. Lorelei says:

I’m losing it at the fact that one of Earthshot’s goals is, quite literally,
“Fix the Climate.” Like…? What does that even mean? Is he kidding?

    • Janey says:

@lorelei – my thoughts exactly. I do wish he would explain to us how to do that – fix the climate!!! What was COP27 all for then if Willnot and Cannot already know?!

    • Taxky says:

The Earthshot prize has five categories for nomination depending on the nature of the work. Companies working on mitigating climate change are nominated in the “fix the climate” category.

    • Ginger says:

It’s the same as Kate’s early years work. “We must fix the early years because of the first five years” ok, how?

And William saying we need to fix the climate while he parades around in private jets, etc…

  4. A says:

I’m not saying any forty year old is gonna be like, the coolest, most with-it person on the planet because we’re not. But boy oh boy is he dull. They keep calling the Waleses ‘glamourous’ and whatever and they just constantly undermine themselves by…existing, basically.

  5. Andy Dufresne says:

Harry and Meghan’s new ad on the Invictus Games is way better!

  6. Becks1 says:

Whyyyy……whyyyy…is he stepping on the phone? Is that a TikTok thing? It feels like he’s just stomping on the nominees or something.

  7. Serena says:

Seemed to me like he was about to kick that camera lol.

  8. Smices says:

Honestly, if they hyped up the Earthshot winners and made them more than an afterthought, this event might actually get the pub it wants. The best thing about invictus were the personal stories of the athletes, with Harry lifting them up. I could see the morning shows doing a segment with some of the winners discussing their inventions. But that would de-center Kate and William and we can’t have that.

    • Lucy says:

That’s my deal with it too. I kind of remember that Ecuador (? Maybe?) Got one of the awards last year, but there was never anything that talked about what the winners actually did, and what work the prize money would further. If they actually decentered themselves, there at least some value. But they can’t handle it not being about them for even a moment.

They could’ve included graphics with the names of the groups shown in the Tik tok, in that blitz of photos. It would’ve been work for people to pause the video and find out who and what they were, but somebody would’ve done it. They couldn’t give a literal fraction of a second to name the honorees.

Also, I don’t like that style of video where everything’s flashing so fast. I’m an old on the internet at this point (a year older than William).

      • Maremotrice says:

@Lucy: Costa Rica won in the “Protect and Restore Nature” category. Presumably the prize money is not going to be divided among the entire population, otherwise people would only get 20p each…

  9. Truthiness says:

The US recently passed a bill for more than $200 billion in clean energy tax credits, and we know we have to do much, much more. Will’s paltry Earthsh*t won’t even offset the Brit Royal Family’s carbon footprint.

  10. Jaded says:

It’s lame. For comparison, Mr. Jaded wrote this song, got it recorded, created the video (his granddaughter does a cameo at the end), and I took some of the photos and created the graphic. Hey William, top this!

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Jaded, please tell Mr. Jaded that I really like this video. The song is great and the pictures are beautiful. I wish there was a way to get this to the notice of more people.

  11. hangonamin says:

ok i am so mixed on this. i think this is a great platform for him to take on but i do think he’s not doing much. there’s so much richness in here for him to talk approach combating climate change from innovation, corporate responsibility and individual change. he can call out the top corporations for greenhouse emissions and engage them in talks, but also there’s so much collectively as humans we can approach agriculture/food that needs to be changed. we americans consume 20-60% more meat (red meat) than the recommended, and it’s projected that by 2050, if we do not significantly decrease our consumption, agriculture/food greenhouse gas emissions will consume our entire allowed greenhouse gas emissions where no other sectors (manufacturing, industry etc) will have any and that means astronomical increase in emissions. great platform…just poor engagement.

  12. Aeren says:

Why isn’t everyone on Salt Island criticizing him for being “woke”?

  13. jferber says:

He’s strategically placed next to a smiling black woman and is doing jazz hands to indicate the depth and importance of what he’s saying. Rubbish. The woman must have been hired to “prove” he’s very much not a racist. Bollocks, too.

  14. Cessily says:

Still know absolutely nothing about the nominees or their initiatives.. this vanity project is tiresome before it even airs, because it’s only focus is this man baby one upping his brother in the States. People might actually pay attention if we didn’t have to wade through the “Peggy is the greatest” propaganda.

  15. Luna17 says:

I think we have to realize that none of these wealthy, super privileged people actually care about the environment and are going to be able to save us poor regular people from the disasters of climate destruction. We’re gonna have to try to save ourselves. These people will always have their private jets and huge houses and will be able to use the resources for them and their families to avoid dealing with climate change while it’s the poor people that will be losing their lives and their homes to it. To most of us, climate change is life or death but for them it’s never going to be. They will always have the resources to just move somewhere else. Greta It’s pretty much the only famous environmentalist I prefer to listen to because she actually walks the walk as much as she can. All these celebrities telling us we need to remember to bring our cloth totes to the grocery store and stop using a/c while they drive huge SUVs and live in massive homes can F off. If we’re gonna save the planet it has to be because us regular people know that our kids won’t survive and no celebrity is gonna save us.

  16. zebz says:

Harry and Meghan were slammed as “influencers” but who has a page on every social media platform? None of them gave a ish about social media until Meghan showed them what could be achieved with it. Kensingtonroyal had 650k followers before Meghan and that included Harry. While @MeghanMarkle had 3 million. Meghan brought them all into the 21st century.

  17. jferber says:

Notice he’s still refusing to learn Welsh, this idiot? The bare minimum is too high a bar for him. I hate Charles, but at least he has maybe an intermediate knowledge of Welsh.

  18. H says:

The phrasing is not iiiit for the Welsh translation. I am a Welsh person and speak Welsh every day.
It’s quite a complex language and phrasing it (from Google translate) like his staff did just isn’t something we would say, because boed and bwyd are pronounced pretty much the same way.

So if it was said aloud it would seem like he was saying ‘food the best team win’ 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Welsh people would say ‘cymru am byth’
Which means wales/Welsh forever/to the end
