Donald Trump just got indicted (updated!)

Update: surprise, Donald Trump just got indicted! We will have more tomorrow!

Yep, Lucy-with-the-football. That’s what this whole Donald Trump will be indicted, arrested, handcuffed and hog-tied storyline was at the end of the day. Just another pipe dream. To be fair, I think Trump believed he was about to be arrested at any moment. He said as much two weekends ago, and his statements were the starting point of Donald Trump Arrest Watch 2023. We all dutifully followed through, as did law enforcement in New York. There were supposedly high-level coordination meetings about how to handle it if and when Trump was arrested for the whole Stormy Daniels payoff. Now it’s looking like there won’t be any indictments until late April. Or May. Or maybe never.

The Manhattan grand jury examining Donald Trump’s alleged role in a hush money payment to a porn star isn’t expected to hear evidence in the case for the next month largely due to a previously scheduled hiatus, according to a person familiar with the proceedings.

The break would push any indictment of the former president to late April at the earliest, although it is possible that the grand jury’s schedule could change. In recent weeks, the Manhattan district attorney’s office hasn’t convened the panel on certain days. But it is District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prerogative to ask the grand jury to reconvene if prosecutors want the panel to meet during previously planned breaks.

The grand jury, which heard testimony in the Trump case on Monday, isn’t meeting Wednesday and is expected to examine evidence in a separate matter Thursday, the person said. The grand jury, which typically meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, is scheduled to consider another case next week on Monday and Wednesday, the person said, and isn’t expected to meet Thursday due to the Passover holiday.

The following two weeks are set to be a hiatus that was scheduled when the grand jury was first convened in January, the person said.

[From Politico]

Whatever happened to “the DA could indict a ham sandwich?” Like, that’s a thing – you convene a grand jury, the DA presents a one-sided account of the crime and the grand jury indicts. Why is this so complicated?? Just indict the motherf–ker and let’s be done with it. As for the breaks… Easter is coming up, as is Passover. Obviously, I understand why there would be a built-in hiatus for the holidays. But… did DA Bragg think he was going to get an indictment before Easter? Was this schedule always the plan and Trump stepped all over the plan and tried to rush the indictment? I don’t even know anymore. Anyway, IF Trump does get indicted, it won’t happen until the Met Gala, basically.

I have lost all faith that they are ever going to nail this a**hole. Sorry but there it is.

  2. FancyPants says:

Well… remember, the only person who said Donald was getting indicted last week was Donald himself. Maybe this really is just the normal schedule for everything. Sorry, I’m trying to stay optimistic. Or maybe it really was going to be last week and the DOJ whispered to Bragg “wait just a minute, US first”… nah that might be a little *too* optimistic… I’m thinking the NY case will be irrelevant anyway because the GA case has him on tape, should be case closed.

    • Lightpurple says:

The grand jury still had witnesses scheduled for days after Trump claimed he would be arrested. The DA never said an indictment was coming. This was just Trump scamming donations

    • ecsmom says:

Also in the news is Allen Weismann’s Trump lawyers are no longer representing him. That implies he may have flipped and DA would need more time to get new information.

Don’t allow Trump to run the narrative. Like FancyPants stated Trump is the only one that said he was being indicted and he did so to raise money. I believe he will be indicted by someone soon. Also know that the special counsel may have intervened and asked for a delay indictment. And the Grand Jury from GA said the evidence was astonishing and more than Trump are going down.

  3. Lightpurple says:

It is very important to remember that Bragg never released any statement on when an indictment was coming or even if an indictment was coming. This is a SCHEDULED break that was likely written into the calendar when the grand jury began.

The claim that it would be last Tuesday gave from Donald Trump himself and within minutes of the claim, he sent out millions of fundraising emails. The grand jury had witnesses scheduled for days AFTER Trump claimed the arrest was happening.

It was a fundraising scam. Listen to Bragg, not Trump

      THIS!!!

    • SarahLee says:

100% agree. Trump used it to grift, period. And his idiot followers gave him $1.5M. As for DAs being able to indict a ham sandwich, that is absolutely not true. No DA is going to indict a former President for the first time in our nation’s history without being damn sure he’s got the case for conviction. This is a weak case. Much stronger cases are coming (Georgia election interference and Mar-a-Lago documents). This is paying off a porn star. Not even in the top 20 worst things Trump has done. This being the first case has always made me nervous because it is not a slam dunk.

  4. Seaflower says:

There is the news that Weisellberg his CFO is no longer using Trump paid lawyers which has led to speculation he’s flipped on Rump, an the DA needs more time for him to testify before the grand jury.

    • Yes I listened to this too. Weiselberg is at Rikers Island prison and it really sucks there. He has some other charges that could have him in Rikers longer and he doesn’t want that so there are some who think he has decided to turn on the trump bus that ran him over!

    • Brassy Rebel says:

That’s a different case. The Weiselberg case is the Trump organization tax fraud case. The state has already convicted the Trump organization of this. The Manhattan DA is investigating the campaign finance -hush money payment. I know it’s impossible to keep track of all Trump’s criming. The main witness against Trump in the hush money payments is Michael Cohen whose credibility is probably a concern for prosecutors.

      • Brassy rebel. I know but he does have that hush money/election fraud info. He can testify to that. It sounds like that is what he is doing so that his other charges that would keep him in Rikers longer is the reason he is willing to tell what he knows. Before he was convicted the DA was willing to let him talk about that but he didn’t want to then. Now he wants out.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

It would be good to get corroboration from the Trump org CFO in the hush money case. Let’s hope that’s what’s going on here. 🙏

      • Lucy says:

What Twitter lawyers are saying is that Weisselburg can bring in insurance fraud, tax fraud, significantly expanding what the indictments would be. He’s been in jail 80 days.

It feels like Lucy and the football, but I can wait if it means next month there’s four more charges added to the indictment.

  5. Lorelei says:

Never. It will be never. This man will never face a single consequence.

  6. JackieJacks says:

As much as I’d like to see the Cheeto be thrown in prison, despite all of the investigations and hearings and grand juries and impeachments etc, there is never going to be a big appetite by an overwhelming majority of people in power to indict or criminally prosecute a former president of the United States of America.
It just seems like that would be a major step towards the actual downfall of this country.

    • C-Shell says:

I just hooted! We both used “Cheeto” at the same time!!

I fear you might be right, but I hope not. I think this country is starving for some accountability.

  7. C-Shell says:

Eh, I think the NY grand jury will eventually indict the mother-cker, but Jack Smith’s grand jury is where the fun and excitement is right now. Let Trump twist in the wind waiting for **all** the indictments to fall — Georgia, NY, DC …

The shame of it all, though, is how much money Cheeto is raising off this. From people who can ill afford it.

    • Renae says:

No, I want mango Mussolini nailed by Georgia. The Jack Smith (potential) indictment is Federal. As such, if convicted, any future president can pardon him and its almost a sure bet that a Republican one would. Georgia is State. A future president can’t pardon him.
Best scenario is he gets indicted for both!

    • Truthiness says:

Hell yeah C-Shell. Jack Smith has been stepping up to the plate belting out homers on a daily basis, it’s exciting to watch. It’s unprecedented and the judges from NY to DC are FED UP with Trump’s delaying tactics. Disregard (right wing owned) Politico, the hush money case is not on fire like the others, but you have to know where to look.

The experts with the accurate play-by-play are the prosecutors with 20-30 years DOJ experience or similar, like Glenn Kirschner, Andrew Weissman, Harry Litman. Laurence Tribe is decent at making it easy for the mainstream to read but he doesn’t have the veteran prosecutor’s experience and he defers to them. The cases are visible now that they’ve gotten a F* TON done on dozens of unprecedented fronts. The non hush money cases are lit, disregard where Trump is yelling.

  8. Frippery says:

I wound rather solid, unimpeachable cases were built than that things got rushed because justice was working on the timeline of social media.

  9. NesB says:

I have been saving a bottle of good Perrier Jouet which my former boss gave me as a gift, so hubs and I could enjoy it once the orange menace is imprisoned. In this as in all things, Trump ruins everything.

    • Dara says:

Great minds think alike. But I used my good champagne on Biden’s Inauguration Day. I meant to wait for when he took the oath of office, but watching Trump and family exit the White House was too much fun. I was wasted by 8am local time and almost slept through the actual ceremony.

I have another bottle waiting patiently in my fridge for any potential perp walk.

      • Jennifer says:

I destroyed my Trump voodoo doll that day. I took the day off from work and watched it all and it was glorious.

  10. Elsa says:

As per SNL “ain’t nothin gonna happen.”

  11. Puppy1 says:

I’m hoping he’ll choke to death on a Big Mac real soon!

  12. Glitterachi says:

Okay, but imagine if it actually happens the Monday morning of the Met Gala. The memes that will explode layering comments about the arrest over any particularly outlandish outfits….

    I want that for us.

    • Anna says:

Orrrrrr… Hes getting indicted end of March.
I cannot wait to see what you have to say on the subject tomorrow

  13. Anne Keane says:

Utterly pathetic. He should of course have been removed and barred from standing for office at his second impeachment. When republicans were too cowardly to do that, trump should have been charged with sedition a few weeks after leaving office. I’ve seen the relevant statute and it seems to fit. Anything now is too little too late. I’m sure the message ‘you can do anything and there are no consequences’ has come over loud and clear. It’s what’s been happening all his life and not even an attempted coup has repercussions.

  14. NoNoNotAnyMore says:
