King Charles won’t change Royal Lodge’s locks to evict Prince Andrew

Over the weekend, the Mail had a story about Prince Andrew and the neverending psychodrama over Royal Lodge. Andrew has a “valid” lease on Royal Lodge and a sweetheart deal on rent, but now that his brother is king, Andrew doesn’t have the “income” to maintain the property properly. King Charles made a BFD about “evicting” the Sussexes from Frogmore Cottage and evicting Andrew from Royal Lodge at the same time – and offering Frogmore to Andrew – but at the end of the day, that was solely about evicting the Sussexes and nothing more. Andrew is still in Royal Lodge and unwilling to leave, not even as some big repairs are scheduled for this summer. Andrew is reportedly terrified that if he temporarily relocates during the repairs, Charles will change the locks on him. Sources close to Chuck say that’s not his style, per the Royalist:

Charles won’t change the locks: A friend of the king said: “The idea that Charles is going to use building works as some underhand pretext to get Andrew out and then lock the doors is about as ill-informed as earlier speculation he was going to cut off the electricity. That’s simply not how he operates.”

The Sussexes’ eviction was straight-forward: The friend pointed out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were asked “in a straightforward” fashion to give up the lease to their home, Frogmore Cottage. It is understood Harry and Meghan were financially compensated for money they spent on the property.

Would Andrew then be reimbursed? Asked if this meant Andrew was going to be asked to leave Royal Lodge in a similar way and given a similar deal, the friend dodged the question, saying: “It’s a very expensive place to live and Andrew doesn’t have a significant source of income, so ultimately he will probably have to move out.” The friend said they did not know if reports that the king had cut Andrew’s allowance, rumored to have been as much as £250,000 ($311,000) per annum under the queen, as has been previously reported, were accurate, but said, that in any case, “250 grand wouldn’t go far on Royal Lodge. It’s enormous. It needs staff and constant, major repairs. It’s impossible for him to live there long term without the king’s support.”

Prince William isn’t agitating to take on Royal Lodge: It has been rumored that Andrew is to be persuaded to relocate to Harry and Meghan’s former home, Frogmore Cottage, so that William and Kate could move into Royal Lodge, which has ten bedrooms, and in which Andrew and his ex-wife, Sara Ferguson, live in separate wings. However a source previously told The Daily Beast the couple were “very happy” at four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage, also in Windsor Great Park, to which they moved in August last year, and they are understood to not be agitating to take on Royal Lodge. A friend of William’s told The Daily Beast: “They have literally only just moved to Adelaide, so I doubt they are keen to do it all again.”

Charles hates that Andrew is living in such a palatial estate: However it is no secret in royal circles that Charles thinks it is damaging for the monarchy that Andrew is still living in a luxurious royal palace after he was kicked out of the ranks of the working royals after he was accused of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, a Jeffrey Epstein trafficking victim. The question is whether Andrew is now bluffing in the hope of getting a bigger financial settlement for surrendering his lease, or if he really intends to defy his brother by staying put in Royal Lodge. If that really is the case, and he and his family cannot afford to repair and maintain it, Charles will have to choose between allowing a historic home to crumble around his nightmare sitting tenant—or pay for the upkeep himself after all.

[From The Daily Beast]

“It is understood Harry and Meghan were financially compensated for money they spent on the property.” The silver lining of all of this horsesh-t is that Harry and Meghan only agreed to the eviction if the Royal Estates had to cut them a seven-figure check for all of the money they spent renovating that dilapidated shack and turning the cottage into one of the most-sought-after properties in Windsor. As soon as they renovated it, everyone in the family seethed with jealousy over what they did with the place.

As for Andrew… yeah, as I’ve been saying, the whole point of this eviction drama was to get the Sussexes out. Now that’s done, Charles isn’t going to push to evict Andrew. Charles will just cut Andrew’s allowance and let it play out that way. Meanwhile, the more we hear William’s denials about wanting Royal Lodge, the more convinced I am that William is completely behind all of the efforts to evict Andrew. It kills me too, because there are SO MANY other great properties just on the Royal Windsor estate.

I’m sure William wants Royal Lodge for his homelessness project, to help house the homeless. /s

William wants Royal Lodge in order to gloat to the homeless: See, if only you’d have been born first and inherited stolen wealth and done nothing else with your life, you wouldn’t be in the dire situation you are now. It’s your own fault.

    • Pinkosaurus says:

William just realized he doesn’t want Kate and her clinger family to establish a foothold in the Lodge. He’s very happy to keep her in her relatively downmarket separation home with the kids and let the sweaty nonce stay in the Lodge until William gets a divorce. If Andrew isn’t settled somewhere out of William’s eye line when he becomes king, I suspect old uncle Andy will be out on the street.

      • Christine says:

Agreed, Pinkosaurus. There will be no more moves to evict Pedo until Kitty is jettisoned from the royal family. The next Mrs Wails won’t want her germs all over Royal Lodge.

        This family is fucking awful.

This headline did make me laugh. 😁
The entire BRF is turning into a soap opera.
    What can Charles do? LOL
He is powerless to force Andy out. Can you see how funny that would be to have a handyman in a small truck pull up and change the locks?
OMG, SM would never stop laughing.
Andy and Fergie will not go.
Charles know Andy has to be kept quiet.
If I was Andy, I’d be very careful to avoid an accident.

Meanwhile William who has 4-10 other houses he can use, is likely stomping around because he is not getting his own way fast enough.

Bless Harry. Harry is the only one smart and brave enough to go out and live his own life. I wonder if he is chuckling about this headline? LOL

    • MSTJ says:

It has always been a soap opera IMO. It’s just that the world has not paid it extensive attention except during the Princess Diana and Princess Meghan years. Besides the two of them, most people globally IMO tuned in from time to follow major big events like the royal weddings. Otherwise the soap opera drama was only of regular interest to a narrow audience of royal watchers (tabloids reporters, commenters, aristocrats, royal sycophants, admirers of QE II).

    • booboocita says:

I hope, I truly hope, that Harry has not seen these articles. Not because I think they’d hurt him, but because I want him to be so happy and fulfilled, away from that toxic environment, that he has neither time nor need to seek out articles about his erstwhile family. Let the BRF posture and plot and whine to their press trolls. H&M are busy elsewhere changing the world for the better.

  3. I believe if Andrew leaves for the repair work Chuckles will indeed lock him out. Andrew knows this and that’s why he is staying while the repairs are made. Andrew knows his brother is a putz and Charles feels the same about Andrew. Always know your enemies and these two are enemies.

    • Taytanish says:

And yes, the changing locks on someone is very much Charles MO, to claim otherwise is just straight-faced lying on Sykes’ part; just ask Angela Kelly.

      • ML says:

Exactly, Taytanish. All KC would have to do is wait till his brother went riding and then change the locks. Sykes is wrong about KC not doing it. However, PA doesn’t seem to need to worry about it. KC seems not to want to take action (other than appearing tough) when it comes to his brother.

      • Pinkosaurus says:

Seriously, Chuck is selfish and conflict averse. He will 100% schedule construction and never let you back in. I bet almost no one is going to get their offices back in BP when the reno is done. Chuck will schedule public tours in those rooms if he has to. I think only Anne is safe and that’s because she’s self sufficient and not agitating for more.

  4. Taytanish says:

Huh? The Sussexes were compensated? Thats a new one.

    • Pinkosaurus says:

I’ll believe it only when/if H&M confirm. Chuck has been given credit in the press for paying for their security, sending gifts/being in contact with his grandchildren and paying for their Montecito home, none of which is true. If they did, it’s only a credit to the Sussex’s excellent lawyers and I still wouldn’t be certain they won’t have to take it to court to actually get the payment.

  5. ML says:

Is this a game Paedrew and UpChuck play? Every so often, KC threatens his brother. His brother acts scared. Absolutely nothing changes. KC looks like he takes the public’s opinion on PA seriously and he can look tough. PA squeaks a bit like the ratfink he is, but he hasn’t paid that steep a price and still has access to almost everything he wants (be that in a non public manner). The papers get to write about it. Wash rinse repeat. No change.

  6. Jais says:

Good. I’m happy to hear the Sussexes we’re compensated, if it’s indeed true. Interesting that them being evicted ultimately lost the crown estate money. Doesn’t seem like a smart move, just a petty AF one. Iirc, at the time, it was said that the Sussexes were presumptuous to possibly think they could just leave a house empty for most of the year. Which was such a stupid reason to give. But I’m really interested to see what happens to frogmore cottage. Who will live there? Eugenie and Jack? Andrew? William? Or will it…sit empty. As far as Andrew and Royal Lodge goes, it’s whatever, a comedy to watch them fight it out.

    • MSTJ says:

I don’t think Eugenie and Jack can afford Frogmore Cottage with the jobs they have. I think Harry and Meghan allowed them to occupy the property free of cost to them. So like you, I’ll be interested to see who eventually lives there going forward.

      • Jais says:

That’s what I’m thinking. The frogmore cottage lease will end at some point. This month? The end of the summmer? Idk but at some point. Harry and Meghan are letting Eugenie and Jack live there, if it’s true that they actually are there. But will they be kicked out at the end of the lease? Will they be offered a subsidized lease price to stay? Otherwise who is going to love in it? Unlikely, it’s Andrew. And after all the raging about how dare the Sussexes think they can just leave the house empty, will it actually just sit empty? This is something I’m ridiculously invested in finding out. Again, the crown estates will lose money will they not? I’m toying with the idea that either Kate or William will end up there. William seems to be based in London at KP while Kate is at Adelaide. So an additional house in Windsor would come in handy. Sure, there’s rooms at Windsor castle but this would be more private.

  7. S808 says:

“It is understood” is an assumption but I do hope they ran the Sussexes their money. I don’t understand why W is so hell bent on Royal Lodge?

  8. MaryContrary says:

Oh yes the whole “William and Kate are not keen to move” nonsense story. As if they’re the ones packing it all up and calling to get their internet set up. Eyeroll. I maintain that they have their eyes on Windsor Castle. They moved to the available Adelaide to start their kids in a school close by knowing how ill the Queen was and figuring they’d be able to quickly move over.

    • Cara says:

That made me laugh too. They didn’t have to pack up their belongings or load up a truck with boxes. No cleaning on either end of the move or getting utilities sorted. How hard could it be? Everything is done for them!!

  9. HeyKay says:

    What a bunch they are!
Maybe Liz WAS hanging on as long as she could, knowing what a pile of backstabbers, idiots, criminals she raised.

It is starting to look like Phillip, who was problematic in his own right, was doing a damn good job of keeping the bs about his grown kids out of the limelight.

  10. JudyB says:

Interestingly, Sarah Ferguson mentioned in an interview that the books she was writing were doing very well financially, and that she would be able to help Andrew make up for the cut in income his brother made to him.

Aren’t all of us extremely grateful that we do not have to rely on our brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, or even grandmothers to decide on how much they should pay us for the services they decide we should perform?? Nor, do we have to worry about our family deciding to negate leases and toss us out of our homes. Being part of the RF must be like working in a hellhole.

    • MaryContrary says:

Sarah Ferguson is a liar/big exaggerator, so I would take ANYthing she says, particularly about her finances, with a massive grain of salt.

      • Jaded says:

She’s also a raging spendaholic so any money she makes goes to paying off her overwhelming debts. Remember when Epstein gave her money to pay some staffer’s salary?

    • MSTJ says:

Hmmm! Sarah and Andrew do not have a good track record with money and business. Many opportunities , failures, financial losses, scandals. I’ll be keeping my eyes on her to see how this round goes with her new endeavors. It’s sink or swim now I think; QE II is no longer around to step in to rescue failed adults.

    • Tessa says:

Her books are not exactly best sellers

  11. Chantal says:

I agree that C-Rex will just wait Raggedy Andy out, while refusing to financially support him. I suspect that once the repairs have been completed, Andy will receive a very hefty repair bill and have to pay it or vacate (with a nice settlement). Surely either Edward or Anne could let Andy and his teddy bears live with one of them 😂

I think that the reason C-Rex capitulated is bc he offered Supernova a superior property while Special K either keeps Adelaide or gets Frogmore Cottage. Raggedy Andy will then be forced to accept whatever Chuck provides. Also, Camel’s children will likely get properties too.

  12. blue says:

Adelaide Cottage has 4 bedrooms. I guess each child gets his/her own room so where does William sleep? I don’t believe he & Kate share a room.

  13. Amy Bee says:

Let’s hope that the revelation that Harry and Meghan were reimbursed is true. Charles was never going to evict Andrew, he was just used as cover for the eviction of Harry and Meghan.

  14. JP says:

“It is understood Harry and Meghan were financially compensated for money they spent on the property.”
I’m picturing how my high school English teacher would have reacted if I put a sentence like that in an assignment. She would not be having it.

  15. Rnot says:

Petty is EXACTLY how Charles operates.

  16. Izzy says:

“ It is understood Harry and Meghan were financially compensated for money they spent on the property.”

Receipts or it didn’t happen. And by receipts, I mean confirmation from an official Sussex spox.
