Telegraph: Queen Camilla’s Gumby jumpsuits & housedresses are so fashionable!

Hilariously, one of the biggest royal stories of the week was Queen Camilla turning up late to her literary festival event and then staggering around in a bright blue Anna Valentine jumpsuit. Classic Camilla! While the jumpsuit was incredibly unflattering on Camilla, I have to admit something kind of terrible: I sometimes like what Camilla wears. Would I wear her stuff? Probably not, but I like many of her floral “housedresses” and I think Camilla’s stylists really do a good job of trying to find flattering styles for her body. Camilla isn’t some slender fashionista who looks good in all styles, so it is what is. It’s funny to watch the British media try to make Camilla’s housedresses and Gumby jumpsuits into some kind of fashion statement though. From the Telegraph’s piece on Camilla’s “daring enough wardrobe.”

Camilla’s style: It’s been more than a month now since the Coronation and Camilla’s rebranding from Queen Consort to Queen. She’s never been one to attempt fashion plate status, but it’s evident that with the guidance of her long-time dresser Jacqui Meakin, she’s developing a look to suit a new era and her position as the most senior woman in the Royal family.

Camilla doesn’t actually have a huge wardrobe: Prince Harry might have complained about his stepmother turning his old Clarence House bedroom into a dressing room, but Camilla’s wardrobe is nowhere near as vast as that of the late Queen or the Princess of Wales. She repeats often and depends on a small selection of staple accessories. But she has also been shoring up her repertoire recently with some new purchases that crystallise how she’s styling herself as a modern 75-year-old queen.

Camilla’s signature color: Both Camilla and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, have developed a penchant for Me and Em, a label loved by a certain kind of woman who has plenty of money to spend and wants to look au courant without erring into fashion victim territory. Last week, Camilla added yet another new frock from the brand to her collection, wearing a £250 cobalt blue midi dress (fast becoming her signature shade) with the slit neckline that is a running theme in her dresses. “The deeper the better, especially on a fuller bust and far more flattering on her than a round neck. It’s also excellent for all her lovely necklaces,” Fiona Clare, one of her favourite designers, told The Telegraph earlier this year.

Shoulder robing: Camilla added style tweaks that would even make a woman half her age look instantly cooler. When she felt chilly, the Queen draped her trench coat around her shoulders. It’s what fashion editors call shoulder robing and is practised by all the most-photographed influencers and insiders at fashion week. She also carried a handbag by Bottega Veneta, an It label which shows someone on her team is keeping up with what’s in and what’s out.

Camilla’s orthopedic footwear: Not that all her accessories are chosen for their fashion-forward properties. Camilla’s footwear now largely comes from Eliot Zed, a shoemaker specialising in comfort. “She knows what she likes and she’s growing in confidence,” Fiona Clare hinted in April. Expect plenty more moments like that jumpsuit stride from Queen Camilla.

[From The Telegraph]

Cobalt blue is becoming Camilla’s signature color, huh? I’ve also noticed that she’s trying to wear that shade of blue a lot, and it’s funny because for the better part of a decade, Kate has also tried to make cobalt blue HER signature color. What’s crazy about that is that shade of blue doesn’t even suit Kate. She looks much better in reds, burgundy and canary yellow. Camilla also looks better in other colors – green suits her, as does anything on the purple/violet scale. Anyway, that jumpsuit looked hideous on Camilla, but I’m fine with her continuing to wear those floral housedresses. Just don’t try to convince me that she’s regal or stylish.

Hahahahahahaha. *Wipes tears away and takes breath.* Hahahahahahaha.
Okay, Camzilla dresses in her own style and that usually suits her and it’s not terrible for an older woman, but that article was ridiculous.
As to Keen, I think Camz dresses better for her style, but K can definitely wear cobalt blue. I don’t think she pulls of yellow—she needs jewel colors.

  2. equality says:

So are Cam and Sohie trying to take the place of Kate with the fashion? Is that to put Kate in her place or because she is on the way out and they think someone needs to be known for the fashion in the RF?

    • Pinkosaurus says:

Camzilla doesn’t overspend on clothes like Kate and is super current and stylish! Camzilla doesn’t have a wasteful and extraordinarily oversized wardrobe like Kate! Camzilla rewears classic staples (you know that’s stealing a headline from Kate because she lives to be considered frugal for her occasional rewear).

      Claws. Out.

    • Flower says:

^^ It’s a new era and the crusties are in charge.

I’ve always had the impression that a lot of the members of the BRF secretly want to be ‘popular’ hence the jealousy of the actual stars like Diana, Harry & Meghan.

I think Charles really wants us to like his bride hence why he keeps pushing he out there and her getting into bed with the likes of Morgan, Clarkson et al.

But the sad reality is that Brits barely tolerate her – at best.

It’s just sad and embarrassing to see.

      • Renae says:

I think Chuck would have had a lot more support and perhaps more popular if he hadn’t shoved this side chick down everyone’s throat.
He just had to have her named “queen” as queen consort wasn’t good enough. He had to have her anointed!!! No one was prepared for that. And then there is her/him elevating all her family (even her ex??).
Chuckles would have gotten more good cheer if he just didn’t push her front and center.

      • Lady D says:

Chuckie would be okay with Camilla starting an affair with her ex-husband. I mean these people bedhop nonstop, it is literally a part of their lives. I wonder if any other men are off limits, if they’re all off limits, or if Chuck expects her to stay with just him?

    • BeanieBean says:

It’s funny because Kate wears a lot of Me + Em as well. I think that pink dress with the weird hemline–longer on the sides–is Me + Em. The one her mom has as well. As for Camilla’s few key accessories, please. She’s got a new Chanel handbag every other time she goes out, and Bottega Veneta ain’t cheap either.
Also wanted to say, in looking again at the top photo from the event the other day–did nobody realize they were going to be photographed? Their clothes are all wrinkled and ill-fitting, every single person. Joanna Lumley’s hair is a birds nest, the woman next to her looks like she was on her way home from the shops & got pulled into the photos, and the men are all rumpled messes.

      • Bee says:

Bottega Veneta has been cool since at least the ’70s too. It’s a fancy “luxe” brand, not something newly hot. Just very expensive. Like the entire BRF. What will be next, Gucci? Vuitton?

The men are always rumpled messes. Works for them I guess.

  3. OMG stylish? The people around her were doing their level best not to laugh at her clown suit. You got rid of H&M and you are left with this. Stylish and regal my ass. Drunken and frumpy at best.

    • Renae says:

Most of her cobalt blue dresses look EXACTLY like a robe I had in 1978. (Zipper up the front…..check) Who knew then that I was fashion-future? Perhaps I should have my 70’s and 80’s clothing remade so I could be a style setter!

    • Mary Pester says:

@susanCollins, ah Susan, I’ve just managed to catch my breath away after laughing so hard at the rubbish in that knee bending article, all I can think of to say about that jump suit after seeing it for a second time is “could someone please, please tell her that whilst she is married to a right Charlie, she ain’t no angel 😂😂🤔

    • Jojo says:

‘Stylish’ and ‘regal’ are not even on the same planet as this woman.

  4. SIde Eye says:

They keep trying to make Jeremy’s girl happen. Props to them for their efforts. What the ass clownery is she wearing? That jumpsuit is hideous. It’s exactly what I’d expect a tacky sidepiece to wear. And maybe instead of buying Bottega Veneta bags (they act like she discovered this designer – those bags have been around forever), they could point her to a decent brassiere. Dare to dream!

Also, she looks like she dabbles a little scotch behind each ear as perfume. But we know she consumes EVERY drop of that scotch!

    • Jais says:

      Jeremy’s girl😂

    • Elizabeth says:

A decent bra and something that shows she has a waist. I have a feeling that Camilla has been wearing the same size bra for the past thirty years instead of going and getting measured every year and buying the appropriate sized bra. The girls could definitely look better.

  5. Seaflower says:

Noticed the reference to coats over shoulders as something all the fashionable people in Paris do… but remind me which Royal wife was doing it 5 – 6 years ago when she first arrived on the scene?

    • WiththeAmericann says:

It’s only amazing and fresh and young when a 77 year old orange bully does it.

  6. girl_ninja says:

“Camilla’s wardrobe is nowhere near as vast as that of the late Queen or the Princess of Wales. ”

Really? Keep Princess Diana’s name out of your trash mouths.

    • Tessa says:

Diana had excellent taste in fashion. Not so camilla.

    • Pinkosaurus says:

I took the PoW comment as a shot at Kate, not Diana. Maybe both, now that you mention it.

    • Nic919 says:

Yes they didn’t say late PoW. That was a shot at Kate.

    • Flower says:

I am guessing that line is a pre-emptive telling for the article that is about to come later in the year detailing the clothing spend of all the Royal wives.

And as this was a Jubilee, funeral and Coronation year, the costs are going to be eye watering and the fallout is going to be SAVAGE. We’ve seen the eye watering amount of new clothing Kate stepped out in this last year incl various versions of Megs beloved Aquazzura’s but best of all we finally get to find out how much Kate’s tin foil tiara cost.

And with Meghan out of the way and WME shooting down articles like Camilla tossing back those mid afternoon gins, I am guessing Kate is Patsy this year – LMAO

      Camilla does not miss !!!

  7. Tessa says:

So now Camilla spin is she has no large wardrobe. I truly doubt that. She probably has many outfits and they have to be tailored to suit her figure. The too wide trousers are not flattering. The outfits probably cost a lot and for that amount of money the wide trousers look bad on her

  8. Harper says:

Do they have Gumby in the UK? Just asking.

  9. Scooby Gang says:

She looks like a half-opened parachute.

  10. Brassy Rebel says:

In that top photo, it appears that people are looking at the “jumpsuit” and having a good laugh. My mother, who has long since passed, had a yellow lounge wear outfit just like this. The thing is it wasn’t intended to be worn out side of the house.

  11. Lexistential says:

I KNEW she was purposely hiding orthopedic shoes! The Gumby silhouette is to hide her sensible old lady sneakers, and the tabloids have no choice but to embiggen this as “daring.” Ahahahhahaha! Couldn’t happen to a better press.

  12. Chantal says:

Hahaha who are they trying to convince? Her fashion is usually ok, looks nice on her and some items are clearly better than others but that Gumby jumpsuit was a huge swing and a miss – unless you’re a giant parade balloon! Those pant legs were ridiculous. Since they like to fire people, perhaps it’s time for a new stylist…

  13. WiththeAmericann says:

Why is she always trump orange?

  14. Amy Bee says:

These royal reporters can never write about any of the other royals without mentioning either Harry and/or Meghan. This tells me who are really the most popular royals.

  15. SarahCS says:

I recently bought some stuff from ME+EM for the first time (epic jersey palazzo pants for around the house) and now I feel dirty. Based on how they style things on their website (and the ridiculously slender models) I would not have thought Cam and Sophie were their target market but clearly what do I know.

Edit, I take that back. I can totally see Sophie in this. Not sure about the rest of it though.https://www.meandem.com/silk-delicate-bloom-print-floor-length-cream-poppy-red-green

  16. Mel says:

The chunky beige shoes deserve to die by fire. Chunky shoes do not go with the little mumsy outfits she wears. The only thing I like out of the pictures is the floral dress. For God’s sake will someone please take that woman out and get her a really good bra.

  17. Sophie says:

Hahahahahaha!! “Camilla’s wardrobe is nowhere near as vast as that of the late Queen or the Princess of Wales. She repeats often” Do my eyes deceive me? Is that a criticism to Kathy?

Secondly, Bottega Veneta bag?! Soooo last year

  18. MaryContrary says:

“Modern 75 year old Queen” -OMG, lololololol.

  19. MsIam says:

I do like when Crocmilla wears boots and she does have some cute purses. Other than that, nope with those crazy hats she reminds me of drunk Aunt Clara from Bewitched. With Endora’s personality though, Aunt Clara was a sweetie.

  20. Lauren says:

This article is even more ridiculous if you are familiar with the other Queens in her age group, which FYI Camilla is the youngest of, for no one else do I feel the need to add the disclaimer “for her age”. Queen Sonja of Norway, who turns 86 in a month, is probably my favorite but I do enjoy Queen Silvia of Sweden’s perfectly tailored skirt suits.

  21. Quincytoo says:

Am I horrible that I read the headliner and giggled then went straight to the comment section 😳

  22. J.ferber says:

I would tell Camilla parachute pants look good on her. I hate her that much. Next I’d suggest mini skirts because her legs are so good, as slim as a filly’s.

  23. Jeanette says:

I look at this joke of a monarchy and think how things would be if ole Chuck hadnt split with DIana..I cant even see her in things the way they are..

  24. Nic919 says:

Camilla is not really fashionable, but if she needs orthopaedic shoes and she makes them more acceptable that is not a bad thing. Too many women wear really bad shoes and crazy high heels and wonder why they have bunions in their 40s.

That jumpsuit is a nightmare, but I won’t bash shoes that fit well and aren’t just for fashion.

    • Kittenmom says:

Hear hear! There is nothing worse than badly aching feet. I refuse to be uncomfortable anymore. Maybe camzilla can usher in a new trend of fashionable orthopedic footwear 😹

  25. bisynaptic says:

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA “she’s growing in confidence”.

  26. HeyKay says:

    Are those not polattzo pants?
I’ve seen those wide leg slacks on other celebs, not a pantsuit tho.
Either way not a good look, IMO.

I’m so fed up with Camilla, unless she face plants somewhere or gets an egg to the face, I don’t want to hear from her ever again.

  27. Saucy&Sassy says:

I pretty much think that she looks frumpy whenever I see her. Even QE2 looked less frumpy and she always carried the same style handbag–geez. I never could look at QE2 without thinking she really needed to update her hairdo. I think the same of the Escort (and Wails). There are stylish clothes out there that would work with her figure, so I’m going with she wants comfort over anything else. Such a Queen?

  28. Amy says:

Everything that is fugly and awful and gross about #NOTTHEQUEEN #STOPCALLINGHERTHAT Camilla just . . . oozes from the inside out. Some of it is the contempt and rot that comes with her obvious long-term alcohol abuse, but I think most of it was factory-installed by the tragically inbred British aristocracy. The woman is vile.

  29. Flower says:

Gonna guess Chuckles gave her the Van Cleef & Arpels blue Alhambra bracelet because it has become ubiquitous in all her engagement photos.

Maybe it’s her talisman against Diana stans.

  30. Veronica says:

    Meant palazzo, sorry

  31. Lolalola says:

Camilla’s style would look a million times better if she just invested in some decent foundation garments. She needs the support. Desperately.

  32. Gabby says:

I’ll indulge Cams her fashion PR, mostly because it dumps well-deserved shit into Waity’s lap. Without her, KCIII would be exponentially more boring, which will become apparent after she staggers off to the big cocktail party in the sky.

  33. Saschafrom76 says:

I Spey Judy Dench with blue Gumby ugh JudyUGH I loved you so 🙁
