Riley Keough gave Priscilla Presley a ‘one-time lump sum payment’ from the trust

Lisa Marie Presley passed away on January 12 of this year. Before January was even over, Priscilla Presley and her lawyers had moved to invalidate LM’s will, a will which would have given vast oversight of Lisa Marie’s estate to Riley Keough. Lisa Marie had made it clear for years that she wanted Riley and Ben (who passed away in 2020) to be the executors of her estate. But Priscilla was so mad, she marched to court just after she buried her daughter. It was extremely tacky, and it set off a months-long legal fight between Riley and Priscilla. A month ago, they managed to settle it, and the terms weren’t released… until now. Riley is now the sole trustee of her mother’s estate.

One month after Riley Keough and grandmother Priscilla Presley reached an agreement over the late Lisa Marie Presley’s estate, the Daisy Jones & the Six star has become its sole trustee, PEOPLE confirms. Riley, 34, petitioned the court to approve last month’s settlement agreement in documents filed Monday in Los Angeles and obtained by PEOPLE. Entertainment Tonight was first to report the news.

The actress’s lawyer Justin Gold writes that if the court approves the petition that Riley will not charge for her services as a trustee; therefore, “the beneficiaries all save money that would have gone to Priscilla who was going to charge a trustee fee.” In the documents, Gold adds: “In settling the claims pending in Priscilla’s Petition, the parties are saving significant legal fees by avoiding litigation, and they are likewise avoiding the spectacle of intra-family litigation that would have been inimical to Lisa’s wishes and not in the best interests of the family.”

Riley — who will be the sole trustee of her mother’s estate and of the sub-trusts for her 14-year-old twin sisters Harper and Finley Lockwood — will also safeguard and invest the money “in a manner consistent with the needs of the beneficiaries, and not influenced by the desire of a Trustee,” according to Gold.

Priscilla, meanwhile, will be Trustee of the sub-trust of her son (and Lisa Marie’s half-brother) Navarone Garibaldi, who will be granted 1/9 of the Trust, the documents reportedly state. The rest will be split among Riley, Finley and Harper, and Priscilla will also receive a one-time, lump sum payment from the Trust for an undisclosed amount. Per the documents, Priscilla, 78, was officially removed as Trustee of her late daughter’s estate on May 11, and that the change will remain in place whether Riley’s petition is approved or not, as Priscilla signed a settlement agreement.

Multiple sources said the legal proceedings caused Riley and Priscilla to stop speaking to each other. “They do not see eye to eye,” said a Presley family insider.

While it’s much more complicated than I imagined, the basic gist is what I guessed: Riley threw money at her grandmother to get Priscilla to back down. Priscilla wanted as much control as possible over the estate and the trust, and Riley had to agree to a “one-time, lump sum payment from the Trust for an undisclosed amount” to get Priscilla to remove herself from the trust. What a tacky thing for Priscilla to do to Riley, my god. Riley gave birth to her first child in late 2022 as well – not only did Riley lose her mom soon after she gave birth, but she had to deal with her grandmother’s f–kery. I feel so bad for her.

    Wow ! Grandma dearest

  2. Nlopez says:

I think Priscilla is going to be buried at Graceland too. She and Elvis had been divorced for years, and had other partners. I don’t get it. She sounds cold blooded and money hungry!

    • Zazzoo says:

Elvis started grooming her when she was 14. She eventually became her own person and left him but her entire life has been defined by him. I’m not saying that makes her behavior okay but I do understand why she might feel entitled to being part of his legacy.

      • SarahLee says:

Their relationship was icky for sure. However, we must remember that Priscilla is the one responsible for there to be anything to fight over now. She took over a bankrupt legacy, turned Graceland into a tourist attraction, and monetized the Elvis brand to build up funds for Lisa Marie. Absent that, there would have been no fortune to fight over.

I’m not saying that I side with Priscilla – suing your granddaughter is beyond tacky and now comes off as a money grab – but the money is there to grab because Priscilla was smart.

      • Kay says:

That still doesn’t give her the right to take her grieving granddaughter to court and sue her for money.

She lived with Marco Garibaldi for 22 years and had a son with him yet she never talks about that relationship. She’s just money hungry.

      • tealily says:

@SarahLee yes, for better or for worse, this is Priscilla’s life’s work. But it does seem like at the point of Lisa Marie’s death, it should automatically become Riley’s responsibility. I’m glad this is settled.

      • zazzoo says:

@SarahLee – I actually didn’t even realize it was Priscilla who had turned Elvis’s legacy into an empire until I read the post further down, but that make this even more true. Elvis was her entire identity from age 14, and even when she freed herself from him and became an independent woman, her career was devoted to his legacy. That doesn’t make her behavior toward Riley okay, but the uber rich are very different from the rest of us. When a family is also a business, family means something completely different.

    • Isabella says:

Priscilla may have had other partners, but Elvis was probably her only real love. It happens. She’s also the mother of his only child and the grandmother of Lisa’s kids. This seems pretty natural to me.

      • Kay says:

Priscilla wasn’t the love of Elvis’s life tho, Ann Margret was.

      • zazzoo says:

This just gets grosser and grosser. He stole her youth but someone else was his true love? I was never an Elvis fan but nothing in this thread is helping me like him better.

  3. Truthiness says:

I really don’t understand why Navarone gets 1/9 of the trust. He’s not a blood relative of the Presleys and Priscilla just comes off as a leach.

    • Dutch says:

Priscilla is the reason why there is money to fight over in the first place. Despite all the success, Elvis didn’t have a lot of assets when he passed. For good or for bad, Priscilla is the one who created Elvis Presley Enterprises and turned Graceland and Elvis’ likeness into a multimillion dollar industry. I get why Priscilla would want to nail down some benefit for herself and her other child given the work she put in over the years.

      • SquiddusMaximus says:

That is an excellent and overlooked point. Thank you!

      • Josephine says:

And she already got paid for that work. And just about anyone could have turned that around. It’s not hard to profit from the talent of Elvis — he’s flippin Elvis. Nah, she already got paid a ton, she didn’t need to nail down more. She doesn’t have to profit even more from her dead child. This is just yet another money grab. Riley is smart to throw money at her because that’s all Priscilla ever wanted and this way Riley can be done with Priscilla and keep her far away.

      • Zazzoo says:

        👏👏👏🏆👏👏👏

      • Truthiness says:

But Priscilla has been paid millions and millions by the Presley estate already and she was suing against what Lisa Marie’s wishes were.

      • blue says:

This isn’t about the distribution of Priscilla’s assets. It’s Lisa’s estate & Lisa’s assets which she willed to her daughter Riley. Priscilla charged in to contradict Lisa’s will & take over from Riley, contrary to Lisa’s stated wishes. Priscilla is a greedy b*t*h who can do anything she wants to with her own assets. Lisa’s will took nothing away from Priscilla. Lisa wanted her kids to get her estate, not her mother. Glad common sense prevailed here.

      • Ravensdaughter says:

…and she’s been paid handsomely for it over the years.
Now it’s time for her to step away, per the wishes of her and Elvis’ daughter.

      • Aurelia says:

Priscilla was paid an annual fee. So no, she was not short changed.

    • FHMom says:

This is my take as well. Priscilla built and has benefited greatly from the Elvis empire. I’m not sure why she thinks her son with another man is entitled to Elvis’s money. It’s just greed.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Because it another way to grift and get access to the estate/money – if she can’t get direct access she will use her son. At least the shady father of the twins is not going to have a say in the trusts thats all down to Riley.

Who knows what will happen in the future – Riley (and her sisters) might change it again in the future once Grandma dearest is gone to remove the Uncle.

    • BlueNailsBetty says:

Navarone is Lisa Marie’s half brother. He doesn’t have to be a Presley to inherit from his sister.

    • Aurelia says:

Same. I dont understand either. Priscilla was divorced and married to another man. How is the kid from this separate union related to Elvis’s estate?

  4. Nikki says:

Priscilla wasn’t going to be left impoverished, but she still went to court to try to wrest control from her own granddaughter, KNOWING her daughter had wanted Riley to control the trust! I am horrified at what that says about Priscilla. It seems amazing Riley turned out as well as she has, with her mom on drugs and her grandma money hungry & unfeeling. I feel very sorry Riley was dragged through all that.

    • Chrissy says:

And also, don’t forget, COS was also involved with this family and might have a stake.

  5. Whatnow says:

I’m not going to judge because there was a lot of infighting in my family after a sudden death. We do not really know anything other than what the press puts out there.
For me the big takeaway is that Riley will have control over the twins trust not their father. Notice the wording “in a manner consistent with the needs of the beneficiaries, and not influenced by the desire of a Trustee,” I take that to mean the twin’s father, who Lisa was in a long court battle with before her sudden death, does not have access to nor any influence over the girls trusts even though he is their guardian.
If not for Priscilla there would be no Graceland. I’ve not heard anything further about Lisa Marie’s financial situation upon her untimely passing. I did read in people magazine that Priscilla had to sell two of her houses quickly to infuse Lisa Marie with cash towards debt.
I’m just saying that I don’t think Priscilla is the bad guy here. For many of the years that she took the money as a trustee she was still supporting Lisa as a minor child. In addition, her decisions as trustee allowed Lisa Marie to inherit approximately 100 million dollars when she came of age.
As far as I know Riley is still a Scientologist so let’s hope that they do not get their claws into this estate.
I admit I have a soft spot for Priscilla for a lot of reasons. I’m not saying she saintly by any means but she’s not the devil here either.
As for her filing the petition right upon Lisa’s death Well that’s the way it goes. Legally you can’t wait until it’s a better time to file the paperwork. You have to do it right away. We don’t know the exact wording of Lisa’s will. If there any irregularities or suspected irregularities it could have gone to probate and that could take years and a lot of money. We don’t know if the way it was written at that time if the twins would not have been protected enough from their father’s financial influences. There was a time I’m told that the twins lived with Priscilla while there was a nasty custody battle going on between the two parents. Obviously Lisa didn’t trust him. I don’t know what to think but I just feel you can’t make it so black and white I guess is what I’m saying.

    • Dutch says:

Lisa Marie sold the bulk of the estate to an entertainment company almost 20 years ago for a big cash payment and shares of the new company that was created. The one thing she did retain was ownership of Graceland itself. I would assume if the house ever was to leave family ownership, this company would get right of first refusal. The company has done a lot to improve the attraction most notably building a hotel with convention space and a nice little concert venue.

    • Josephine says:

No one is owed money from a dead relative. Lisa Marie left the money to her children, not her mother. Parents do not typically inherit from the untimely passing of their children. Really, really sick of pretending that Priscilla has not already been paid millions from her previous control of the estate. Money-grubbing from your dead child is unsavory. Priscilla was not seeking control, she just got a cash payout. Disgusting.

      • FHMom says:

Yes, and you would think having a relationship with her grandchildren would be more important to her at this stage of her life, but you would be wrong. It’s all about the money.

    • Coco says:

No she Is evil for what she is doing to her grandchildren and from what I read Priscilla Is still a Scientologist as well. Yes she could have waited for a better time before filing. What she did was a choice and shows she only cares about the money and nothing else .

      • equality says:

Riley is also a COS member. I imagine the church will benefit greatly either way.

    • Nonok says:

For tax reasons in large estates the trustee is not the guardian. There is no deeper meaning than rich people gonna rich.

    • Jaded1 says:

And don’t forget that she raised the twins every time their parents had drug relapses. Elvis has basically been her life. Legal stuff with death can never look good. But she was in good terms with Elvis at his death. His father named her to take over things upon his death. She created the fortune, tried to save Lisa from her reported spending and drugs, took care of her children and grandchildren, and is probably trying to protect what she built, especially from the twins father. Allegedly she and Riley are still on good terms. She has her own layers of grief, too. She is not perfect, but we need to give credit where it is due.

    • Unblinkered says:

My feeling when I heard about Priscilla’s action was that it was, from a genuine concern, going to be far too much for a young girl like Riley to take on. Like her or not, PP has an outstanding head for business.

I assume Navarone’s share was simply his lifelong close step-sister Lisa wanting him to have something from her, LM’s, estate.

Whatever, all good luck to Riley with it all. She’s going to need it.

  6. girl_ninja says:

What a disgusting way to treat your flesh an and blood. I hope Riley is protected financially and otherwise from now on.

    • Barbie1 says:

She is truly a vile person. Her grandkids mean nothing to her. Using a dead daughter to increase her bank account.

      • Magick Wanda says:

And the bank account of her son who is no relation to the Presleys. He also spoke hatefully against Lisa Marie online. He does not deserve a dime. Riley did what she had to do so these greedy creatures would move on. She has a thriving acting career, a loving husband, and a beautiful daughter. She has everything Priscilla wanted.

  7. Danbury says:

Money turns people into assholes. Story as old as time.

  8. Chaine says:

So gross, especially forcing a trust for her other child who is a middle aged man that is not even a Presley and should be supporting himself, not leeching off the estate of his nieces’ long-dead grandfather.

    • H says:

And according to her own brother via his Instagram account after Lisa Marie died, they were not even close in her later years. I wonder if Lisa Marie had him in the trust when they were still talking and never changed that?

  9. HeyKay says:

This is really ugly all the way around.
Priscilla is a multi-millionaire in her own right.
The son she has should inherit P’s money and nothing from the estate.
    Money grab by P.
PP should not be buried at Graceland.

Team Riley all the way. And best wishes to LMs twins with that awful father to deal with.

  10. Chantal says:

This is disgusting and has undoubtedly done permanent damage to the relationships of all involved. LMs children didn’t even get a chance to grieve before being sued, by their own grandmother no less! Theyre both Scientologists so I don’t know much that factors in. But since part of the estate is in trusts for the minor children, this way allowed Priscilla to get her hands on some of LM’s money quicker. I’ll bet she thought she would at least be named executor of the estate and further line her pockets that way. I guess for some rich people, there’s never enough money, they always want more. And now this will be Priscilla’s lasting legacy.

  11. Diamond Rottweiler says:

Curious why people & press mostly ignore that Riley is apparently a member in good standing of a violent cult? If Scientologists want to eat each other alive over money, fine with me.

    • MaryContrary says:

I thought Lisa Marie had left Scientology ages ago and have never seen that her kids were in that cult? Where have you seen that Riley is a member?

      • Bri W. says:

I think Lisa Marie left but both Riley and Priscilla are still members. I remember seeing something about John Travolta wanting to be a peacemaker between the two and rumors about both Riley and Priscilla wanting to bring Lisa Marie back into it?

      • Granger says:

But if Lisa Marie had left, wouldn’t she have been cut off from Riley and Priscilla? I thought that’s how it works in Scientology — you leave, you’re labelled a suppressive person, your family never gets to see you again. Case in point: Nicole Kidman.

  12. tealily says:

I can’t imagine having to go through that with a family member immediately after the death of your mother. Priscilla needs to get a life, but I suppose it’s too late now. My heart goes out to Riley. I hope she’s surrounded herself with good, supportive people.

  13. J.ferber says:

Riley made a boss move. She did what she knew it would take
And quickly. No f-cking around. I’m proud of her and hope she moves on with her life.

  14. @ZAZZOO says:

Priscilla didn’t see Elvis again for 2 years after they met in Germany. She moved to Graceland in March 1963 and turned 18 in May that same year. She married Elvis when she was nearly 22. Colonel Parker basically forced their wedding. Priscilla has set herself up as the love of Elvis’s life and has erased his other girlfriends like Anita Wood and Ann Margret from his story. Regardless of her being victimized, it doesn’t make it right for her to victimize her own granddaughter.

    • zazzoo says:

According to Wikipedia, they had an almost year long relationship in Germany when she was 14, which is a lifetime for a 14 year old. I admit to thinking they lived together when she was 14, but this new information isn’t 100% acquittal of the adult in the situation (any of the adults in the situation).

  15. @ZAZZOO says:

It was approximately 5 months. Elvis left Germany in March 1960 and Priscilla didn’t see him again until the summer of 1962 when she visited him for 2 weeks.

  16. Sandy says:

Disgusting behavior for a leech who has managed to earn far more than her wirth. She does not deserve to be buried by Elvis because she divorced him. She ias no longer his wife so she is not entitlred. She had no relationship with Lisa except control. She burned het bridges and needs to find another Sugar Daddy who can finance her. Scientology will probably end up with most. Sad that Never one got anything. He is her son and if she wants to give him money take it out if her own. INE cheating lying gold digger. If she had been a decent mom to Lisa she wouldn’t have been left out of the will. Hate courts who don’t do right by families. Sad that the greedy seem to come out smelling like a rose.

  17. Scout says:

I wonder if this is Priscilla getting some cash for her other child Navarone, who is not a Presley but now has access to a portion of the Presley fortune.

Regardless, this was cruel and unnecessary of PP.

  18. Mallory Hartman says:

Everyone, y’all are all on target. Priscilla has carried on Elvis legacy. She invested wisely in order for the estate & the mansion to be solvent. She lived her life like she was still married to Elvis since Lisa Marie was his only child. She took on responsibility of the twins when LM & Lockwood were on drugs, & divorce hatred was in full force. Priscilla feels she took care of them all when times were hard, Riley had her own life & career. She never included her marriage & baby into all this until LM passed. Then LMs son committed suicide & it all fell apart. The inevitable was on the horizan. Unfortunately they all lost no one wins, money will not bring Lisa Marie back, its only greed, that surfaces, not love.

  19. Priscilla has really shown what’s more important to her and it’s not her family! I’m disgusted by the trailer trash move by Priscilla especially when her granddaughter had recently given birth, and then lost her mother. Elvis and Lisa Marie were probably rolling over in their graves seeing the low-class, or should I say NO-CLASS move by Priscilla to screw her granddaughter. It’s JUST DISGUSTING!!!
