Jessica Chastain wore custom Gucci at her San Sebastian premiere: lovely?

If Jessica Chastain is going to do one thing, it’s show up at a European film festival red carpet and look amazing. She might look terrible at the photocall, she might wear a really awful yellow suit and god awful chunky shoes doing press, but when it comes time for the premiere, Jessica is going to wear her sparkly gown and look incredible. So it was last night at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Jessica has been there this week to promote Memory, which was granted a SAG-AFTRA waiver.

Jessica did a “mermaid” look in this custom Gucci gown and gold Aquazzura heels. I love this gown, although it’s not really a breakthrough look for Chastain – this looks like something she’s worn a million other times. But that’s fine by me – I like when actresses have a go-to silhouette, label or style, not everyone has to be Cate Blanchett. I love her styling here too, although if I have one minor complaint about Jessica, I think she could actually do less with her makeup. Her eye makeup in particular, sometimes gets too dark and bold for a pale redhead.

While in San Sebastian, Jessice once again spoke about the SAG strike and she praised the WGA for getting such good terms with their AMPTP deal.

    Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. That’s all.

It’s a miss for me. It looks heavy and she seems oddly bulky in it. Eye makeup too harsh, as well.

Agree about the eye makeup. I feel like I *should* like the dress because the fabric and colors are gorgeous but I think the fit is just…off. I’d like to see it in a video because maybe it looks better in motion? That last pic with 3/4 view just looks awkward. She looked much happier and more comfortable in the yellow suit from a few days ago.

I agree. This whole look feels like it probably looked great yesterday before she slept in it. The dress is strangely baggy, and really unflattering. It’s like a sparkly trash bag.

I’m not a fan of the eye makeup either, it’s so heavy it hides her eyes.

Mmh…I feel torn about this one. I think the color is perfect on her, and she’s wearing the sparkles, not the other way around. There’s something that does not quite work for me in the fit / tailoring, it makes her look bulky (she’s not). Oh, well. She’s still dazzling in my view, she’s such a natural beauty.

I almost love it … could quibble on the styling a bit (like hair and makeup couldn’t decide if they should go Beachy Mermaid Rising from the Sea or Glamour Bombshell at 3 am and did a bit of both)

Great from the front! Great looking at her left side!

But you know how the GFY folks talk about the ‘scroll down fug ’?

This is like a ‘turn around fug’

The whole look takes a nose dive when she pivots and shows the right side: the sheer mesh – saggy, wrinkly and wonkily sewn, the sparkle bra, the visible lines of vertical support that fight with the graceful gathering of all the other fabric to radiating from one point on her left front, and the dominance of the yellow-beige tones over the blues in the rest of the dress.

Absolutely love it. Her hair is perfect for the outfit and the colors of the dress.

Me too. The color pairing is interesting and unusual. Jessica Chastain is a beautiful woman. On the outside and inside.

Agree it’s not wonderful. Not that flattering. This is from Gucci’s new designer? Not groundbreaking or absolutely wonderful. And not a wonderful start right out of the gate. You can load your audience with celebrities, but that doesn’t make you a great designer.

I like it much better than the yellow clown suit. But her hair looks dirty and greasy, especially combined with the day old makeup look. The fabric is pretty though. I’m sorry Jessica but its still a “no” from me.

She looks beautiful! Love everything about this look !

I love her so much. I don’t like this gown on her at all, but she’s gorgeous no matter what

    Lovely

She is SO beautiful and this is so close to a great look, but there are multiple tiny things that make it a miss. Like multiple other posters, I am wondering how they made this beautiful woman, who I know has a rockin’ bod, look lumpy/wide at the waist. The visible boning through the tulle looks lazy, and the styling is off, too. She is GORGEOUS, but the heavy eye-makeup and semi-undone hair are not doing her justice.

Something nice: I love the shoes!!
