Prince Edward & Sophie are on a kid-free ski holiday with friends in St. Moritz

The Windsor clan put in a pretty good appearance at King Constantine’s memorial service in Windsor on Tuesday. Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and assorted royals and royal-adjacents were all in attendance. Prince William’s sudden absence was the story, so much so that it took hours for anyone to ask why the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh didn’t bother going to the memorial service. These days, Sophie and Edward are getting a lot of the “state funerals” and memorial services. It seems weird that they didn’t bother showing up to Constantine’s service, given Anne and Andrew’s presence. Then, hours after the service, we learned why they were absent – the Edinburghs went on a ski holiday in St. Moritz.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh hit the slopes in Switzerland as they enjoyed a skiing holiday at the exclusive resort of St Moritz. Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, both 59, were joined by Suzie Watt, the wife of the Royal Hospital’s Governor Sir Redmond Watt, during their snow-filled trip in the Swiss Alps.

The royal couple arrived on Saturday with friends, but without their children, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, and James, Earl of Wessex, 16.

St Moritz is something of a celebrity haunt for die-hard skiers, frequently visited by the likes of John Travolta, Liz Hurley and Ivana Trump, as well as a string of royals. The couple jetted out in style from Britain in a £42million Dassault Falcon 7X. Capable of flying at speeds of almost 600mph, the jet can carry up to 16 passengers, and includes five convertible beds, two bathrooms, high-speed internet and a Blu-Ray entertainment system.

Shortly after landing near St Moritz, the couple departed the airfield in black Range Rovers and made their way to the upmarket ski enclave, as shown in photographs that surfaced today.

Sophie and Edward have visited the exclusive ski resort on a number of occasions with their children, Louise and James.

“The couple jetted out in style from Britain in a £42million Dassault Falcon 7X.” Are… are we going to get a follow-up on that? Will we ever learn who owns the Dassault Falcon and why Sophie and Ed got to hitch a ride on a private plane? Or does the Mail only save their investigative skills and virtue-signaling environmental concerns for Prince Harry and Meghan? All I know is that if Harry and Meghan had taken a ride on a private plane to a ski resort without their children, the Mail would have done a deep dive into the backgrounds of the plane’s owners, the stewardess, the pilot, the people working at the private airport and anyone who has ever vacationed at St. Moritz.

In any case, this is a cornucopia of interesting news – Edward’s mysterious “breaks” in January and February, followed by a couple of days of events, followed by a ski holiday with friends and neither of their children? Edward and Sophie aren’t worried about looking “bad” for going on holiday while King Charles is treated for cancer and Kate has disappeared. They also didn’t care about missing Constantine’s memorial. Sophie and Ed are in their DGAF era.

These poor little poppets are worked to the bone!!

Their lowly subjects should be so grateful!

  2. Yes Edward’s policy is do a couple of events then he must immediately get to take a holiday.

  3. Pinkosaurus says:

You can always trust the. British rags to report on the number of bathrooms 🙄. Surprised this doesn’t itemize the cost of Sophie’s ski pants and goggles.

  4. Sunday says:

I feel like after decades of clawing their way to royal relevancy they decided they’ve finally got the titles and evidently some sort of payout (in QEII’s will?) and at this point they’ll take what they can get.

I’ve always thought Sophie took the fall for another royal’s motorcade accident. Maybe that was part of some negotiations too?

Because the overall vibes I’m getting from Sophie and Edward are giving severance package.

    • Lemons says:

Perhaps…I also thank they are doing a lot of covering over w/e is going on with the Waleses and are getting a little payout and some perks for that. William can’t lord over his relatives anymore…

Seems that the RF has come to terms with whatever has happened and is now in the acceptance “life goes on” mode.

  6. SarahCS says:

If he’s out and about on the slopes this suggests that whatever health issues he may have had are largely done with now. Even if you can stay upright (I cannot), skiing is physically hard work.

  7. Amy Bee says:

Chris Ship told us that royals only take private jets when they’re working. Where is the press outrage? Now that I’ve found out that the former Greek Royal Family did have an Orthodox memorial today in London. It’s clear that the service yesterday was a Windsor rather than a Greek event. So the question why Edward and Sophie weren’t there is valid and it’s explains the press reaction to William’s absence.

  8. NMB says:

So this seems to rule out Sophie and Edward for that blind item about divorce in the BRF. It’s gotta be Kate and Will, right? Except this mysterious health crisis is throwing a wrench in those plans??? Maybe the blind item was 100% fiction??

Bone Idle is missing and everyone goes on vacation. Well, I think she’ll pop up, but I wonder if the marriage might be over. I think there might have been one indiscretion too many. Let’s remember during the period after the reported affair that she disappeared for four months, iirc. The public isn’t going to be happy with her if she continues to keep quiet.

  10. YeahRight says:

Never thought he was sick just that he’s getting old and those Bowes-Lyon genes making him look elderly.

  11. Nerd says:

So who is actually working in that family if the king has cancer, the heir who should step up is always away due to personal issues, his wife is MIA for over two months and expected to be out for another three to five and these two are on vacation? I also thought that the royal family and Middletons were supposed to be helping Kate and William during this time of their absence, yet no one has seen either of her parents in more than two months, both of her siblings are on vacation and these two are now on vacation? Who in that family is working besides the witch who started the take down of the monarchy more than four decades ago and Anne?

  12. Tina says:

Sophie and Edward’s position has likely never been better. They finally got the Edinburgh titles and they are the only ‘working’ (LOL) royal couple currently still standing. They and Anne and basically now the default royals for international trips.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Tina, I hope QE2 left a good sum to them so they won’t ever be dependent on Bully Idle. That could make a big difference in future.

  13. Caroline says:

It sounds like Edward and Sophie are fed up and are on strike. Which points at how toxic the atmosphere must be for them. Perhaps they feel even more sidelined than before.

  14. Roo says:

Perhaps they are serving as good distractions from Will and the funeral mess?

  15. Debbie says:

So, it seems that the DM is capable of writing a story about a royal couple on vacation without any snideness about the private planes they took, the drama they left behind, the funereal or whatever was going on, and adding the number of bathrooms in their home. And, since Sophie and her husband do live in England, it would seem the perfect place to comment on their vacationing while Charles was sick and Kate was still who-knows-what, but somehow the DM managed to refrain from doing that. Funny how that works.

  16. QuiteContrary says:

I hope there aren’t any old ladies in Sophie’s path on those slopes.

  17. Anon says:

    Sounds like fun!

  18. Rnot says:

Huh. So they still like each other enough to vacation together. Good for them.
