Update: Thanks to Peanut who wrote that she received an e-mail forward with this same story. It turns out that it’s been making the rounds for a while. I checked Snopes and they conclude that it’s a likely “mixture of truth, falsity, exaggeration and speculation.” It’s pretty much like your average Star Magazine article then.
I might be inclined to dismiss this story, but it appears on the blog of a 91 year-old retired sports journalist named Furman Bisher. Bisher is the former sports editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and has earned numerous awards in his long career, including being named by Time as one of the nation’s best columnists in 1961. That doesn’t mean this story is accurate, just that the source isn’t dubious. It’s probably spin from Tiger’s camp meant to make him look like the wounded victim.
Anyway according to a friend-of-a-friend type scenario, Tiger’s wife Elin is probably not leaving him, Tiger is no longer seeing Rachel Uchitel on the side, and Tiger’s face was so damaged by his wife that he had to get intensive plastic surgery on the down low in Phoenix. It’s all a little too sympathetic to Tiger.
Yesterday we heard that Tiger was spotted at a party in Palm Beach over the weekend holding hands with the head mistress, Rachel Uchitel, who just happened to fly down to Florida after the scandal broke. That was quickly followed by a ridiculous story in People that claimed that Rachel was alone at a club that night and that onlookers were wowed by how pretty she was and what a great body she had. Oh and a guy was there that was really into her, but she couldn’t be bothered with him. Obviously that story was planted by Rachel.
Now we’re hearing that poor Tiger was hurt and had to get a lot of surgery and counseling. I’m not buying it, but since we only have rumors as to his whereabouts it’s hard to tell. Here’s the relevant parts of the story:
How Elin confronted Tiger
When Tiger returned home around 11:30 -12 that night, Elin confronted him about the text message in the phone, and the started a heated discussion to its regards. According to what I was told, there was more “incriminating evidence” than just the text message (i.e. photos). Tiger tried to play it off to Elin by telling her she was reading too much in to it, and did not know the story, etc. Tiger went upstairs to change into his gym shorts and t – shirt, came back down, and Elin confronted him again; to which Tiger gave the same story.Elin clocked Tiger with the golf club
Tiger sat down in a chair in the living room, and Elin sat across from him urging Tiger to just come clean. Tiger stayed to his guns and denied everything. At one point Tiger turned away to look at the TV, and as he turned back, Elin hit him on the right side of the face with the head of a 9 – iron. When she struck Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose (causing his nose to bruise some), and virtually knocking two of his upper teeth out, and breaking the bone on the upper right side.The accident happened
Tiger ran scared as hell out of the house (which is why he had on no shoes) with Elin swinging the golf club throughout the hallway to the garage (i.e. causing the severe damage which has been reported). Tiger hoped in the Escalade and tried to leave; and as we know Elin knocked out the windows in the Escalade. When Tiger crashed, Elin panicked and was not sure what to tell the police (which is why there are two conflicting stories from her). When this happened, Elin immediately called Mark Steinberg [Tiger’s agent] to tell him what happened, and Mark told Elin to tell him what hospital they were going to, and he would meet them there.Tiger was sent to Phoenix for plastic surgery
Tiger is transported to the hospital with Elin in the ambulance, and as they arrive Mark is there waiting for them. The people from the hospital and the doctors take Tiger in for X-Rays etc to check out the damage caused. The doctors tell Mark there is not much they can do to repair the teeth and the gash, but the doctor knows a cosmetic dentist and plastic surgeon in Phoenix who will make Tiger look as if nothing happened. Tiger tells Mark to get the jet ready and let’s head to Phoenix to get this done. Friday after Tiger is released from the hospital, he does not return home; he and Mark board the plane for Phoenix. If you remember FHP kept showing up at Isleworth to talk to Tiger, and was told by another FL attorney (who Tiger hired for PR reasons) Tiger was not ready to talk. Well now we know why, he was in Phoenix, and did not arrive back in Orlando until either late last Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The surgeries were more intense than what they had originally planned, which meant Tiger was in PHX longer than he should have been.Tiger and Elin are working things out
Upon arriving back in Orlando, Tiger and Elin have been in intense marriage counseling sessions (up to 6 to 7 hours a day) every day! Both Tiger and Elin have told the counselors they love each other, and want to make the marriage work. In regards to Tiger’s boat being in Palm Beach this week, along with Rachel; that part is true. However, Tiger is not on the boat, and is not in Palm Beach; and Rachel is not on the boat. Her parents live 6 blocks from where the boat is, but that is it. The moving trucks being shown on TMZ and RadarOnline are moving out pictures and furniture which was damaged during their Thanksgiving Day argument; not of her moving out. Yes, Elin has retained a divorce attorney, but has not filed any papers, and as of yesterday had no intention on doing so. Tiger has not made any public appearances or statements due to the surgery and plastic surgery he had in PHX. It will be about another month if not more before he gets in front of a camera. Yes, Tiger is hitting golf balls late at night at Bay Hill out of their teaching center (which is equipped with lights).

So now we have a thorough account of what allegedly went down at Tiger’s house and how he’s coping. Again, it all sounds straight from Tiger’s camp and has a definite “poor Tiger” angle with no mention of the 12-plus mistresses. I can buy the part that Elin smacked Tiger with a 9 iron and wrecked up the house. That’s consistent with earlier reports along with the accident details. If that’s what happened it’s pretty despicable. There’s no excuse for that kind of violence no matter how much he was cheating. As for whether Tiger had to have plastic surgery immediately, that’s possible and it would explain why he hasn’t been photographed. I don’t believe that Tiger isn’t seeing Rachel, though, and that she’s just in the same area coincidentally. This story is spin.
The NY Post claims this story is a “hoax letter” and that Tiger is seeing Rachel. They claim she also puts out of a lot of news in order to raise her profile. After that People story, I’d have to agree. According to the Post, Tiger is not in rehab yet but his people are urging him to go.
There’s a related story on paparazzi agency X17’s site that claims that Tiger has been in Phoenix at a rehab facility for a few days. Whatever he’s up to, Tiger is definitely laying low and hoping this scandal will blow over. That’s not likely considering that it’s probably the biggest one we’ve heard this year.

I don’t think the story is inappopriately sympathetic to Tiger.
He tried the old Bill Clinton tactic – deny deny deny – and as with Bill, the truth eventually came out. And in this case, his wife got angry and clubbed him.
The mistresses are common knowledge now and he’s admitted being unfaithful. No reason to restate that in this story.
This is Tigers people using the media for damage control, I don’t believe a word of it. The only thing going on with Tiger is that he is on his yacht, partying like a frat boy with his yes men hoping this will blow over. I believe he has cut all ties with Rachel and she is just a famewhore who decided to go down to Palm Beach since she had relatives there to see if he would see her, she is a desperate and manipulative party girl. Elin is going to divorce him and move to Sweden and try and get half. They are just fed a 91 year old journalist a good story in the hopes that people wouldn’t question his credibility.

There are too many differing stories about Tiger to believe any of them, though I do believe Rachel Uchitel is doing what she can to keep in the news. She probably hopes she will get Tiger when all of this is over. If not, there are more rich, married men to conquer.
First off, this 91 year old award winning journalist spelled “hopped” wrong.
Secondly, if Tiger hasn’t been seen in weeks, how do we know he’s NOT in Sweden with the kids?
Third, the IDEA (let alone the reality) of Elin swinging a club at Tiger’s nose is f-cking hilarious. If anything she’d be going for his groin.
If she hit him hard enough to cause significant injury, requiring extensive plastic surgery, I do not believe for one second that no one saw the aftermath. His neighbor said there was a little bit of blood coming out of his mouth.
If Elin essentially ripped the skin off his face by his nose and whacked up his front teeth, I think it would have come out before now.
Significant plastic surgery is the woman who had her face torn off by the chimpanzee. Even given the source, I just can’t buy this one. Someone’s looking for an excuse for Tiger not being seen.
I don’t believe the Arnold Palmer bit either. Arnie’s a golf legend, but I don’t think even he would want to be Tiger’s therapist right now.

Don’t yell at me, I’m not advocating spousal abuse. But it’s not like we all haven’t felt that level of frustration at one point or another. And he should consider himself lucky he’s a pro-golfer and not a pro-shooter, or we might have lost another celebrity this year.
I agree with Snowball. If Tiger was hit in the face with a golf club there would be major damage, and none was reported. I think Elin swung the club at the walls, not Tiger’s face.
Also Arnold Palmer just took Tiger off his (Arnold’s) Bay Hill banner. I don’t think he is standing by Tiger.
Tiger created this mess, and lost his sponsers oodles of money. HE is trying to recover his image. I imagine that his PR people will next make Elin out to be a horrible woman and that is why Tiger cheated.

This new story doesn’t mention why he was snoring after the wreck. Seems more likely he was in an Ambien-induced sleep when the shit hit the fan, and I agree with the general consensus that if extensive damage had been done to his face the neighbors who witnessed the scene would’ve noticed.
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and I find it suspicious that doctors in Orlando couldn’t fix his face but a doctor in AZ could? Miami it right around the corner and I’m pretty sure for every one plastic surgeon in AZ, there are 20 out there. While AZ is sunny year round, there are no beaches to lay around in and be widely judged as opposed to the plethora of beaches in Florida. And even if they felt there wasn’t a suitable doctor in Florida, I’m pretty sure there would be a ton in New York which is half the flight time it would take to get to AZ. Something just seems really off with the story. And if it was because of privacy, I’m sure anyone can be bought for a certain price.
He’s always had such a “pretty boy” face. Hate to see it scarred up.
The Rachel story sounds like a plant. I can imagine onlookers admiring the body, but her face?! Don’t think so.

2. the increased swelling that would occur after a flight from FL to AZ would negate any possible benefit from a “better” expert.

The entire idea of Elin assaulting her pro golfer husband with a club is ridiculous and sensational at best. First of all, have you seen her? She’s half his size and just because she’s married to Tiger Woods doesn’t mean she knows her way around a golf club.
Second, while no one has seen Tiger, he was discharged from the hospital the next day after the accident and was at the home they share. If the damage to his face was that severe, why would he be sent home after 24 hours?
And finally, if a rag like the NY Post is skeptical and calling this tall tale a hoax, what does that tell you?

If she hit him with a club, she ought to be in jail.
If he was clubbed, chased and used the car to escape, then an OUI/DWI charge wouldn’t have been appropriate after all.

The story of Elin hitting him with a golf club is hard to buy since he could easily get one away from her, and the neighbors would have noticed major damage at the accident scene. If there is any damage, running a car into a tree might do the job.
When you’re talking about a financial impact involving billions of dollars, the lies and spin will be flowing.
If you ask me, his people are hiding him while his jacked-up face heals. Elin will get her divorce, take a reasonable chunk of dough and go back to Sweden. He’ll unite with his grotesque-looking party girl while his sponsors and hangers-on watch the earnings evaporate.

I can buy the story of an Ambien-induced haze and trying to drive. Of course, his wife would be following him to try to catch him before he really hurt himself. He didn’t drive far from home so if she had to run back to get a golf club, which was probably readily available in several rooms, it didn’t take long. Then she hit the back of the SUV because the front doors were stuck shut after he hit the tree.
This woman didn’t grow a temper overnight. If she’d been that wild, someone would have sold other stories of her fits to the tabloids before now.
And one more thing @K-Love–Rhianna pressed charges against Chris Brown. I guess if Tiger decides to press charges against his wife (which would definitely help in a divorce or with his endorsement contracts, if true) then we’ll have a different angle on this story.

I remember reading that no blood was found in Tiger’s car so if Elin did bash him in the face causing a hole to open in his face it would be virtually impossible to keep blood from dripping inside the car while he was fleeing their home.

This makes no sense. If you got hit with a golf club, I’m pretty sure someone at the scene would notice the injury. Even with a light swing, those things can do damage! She might have gone after his window or some stuff in the house with it, and while I agree there’s no excuse for violence, I totally understand the urge. I’d probably be breaking sh*t too.
If he was injured it might have been from, oh, driving his car into a tree while under the influence of something, and then falling down/passing out on the lawn. Even a fall from standing can hurt a person.
I do not believe a word of it, his PR people are doing damage control because he ruined his nice guy image. Tiger himself put out a statement on his site saying Elin did nothing but try to help him and anything else is just lies.

I’m leaning towards believing most of what is in this account. The fight explanation jibes with what I was already thinking occurred.
I’m no doctor/plastic surgeon, but just because there has not been official word or pictures showing serious injuries doesn’t mean that none occurred.
I’m not exactly sure what the neighbors were able to see depending on what point they stepped outside to see what was going on, did they get outside before or after the ambulance arrived?, where they able to view him entirely?. Supposedly, there were only two neighbors who were able to view the incident, correct?
Second, hospitals and their staff are supposed to keep all health information private, whether it occurs to a celebrity or a layperson!! And that’s how it should be. I’m not sure how so much information was distributed about Rihanna’s injuries, but, to me, that was a serious breach of ethics and privacy.
I think, at this point, for people who have passionately taken sides any stories conflicting what they believe will be doubted.
I don’t support Tiger, but I won’t congratulate Elin on her actions either. If he would’ve moved his head a certain direction, she could have caused a brain injury and possibly death if she hit him with enough force to break teeth and/or fracture a bone.
I think another reason that you won’t see Tiger until he’s fully healed is the shame of a man being pummeled by a woman, he wouldn’t want documented evidence of the fact that his wife kicked his a$$.

Remember the night of the accident people. There were witnesses who mentioned a minor cut lip. Medical reports at the hospital also. This is a spin from Tiger’s camp to take the heat off of Mr. Tiger Woods. Now the innocent wife is being targeted. I guess who is next will be the children. Tiger’s boys give it up.
