Heritage: The American ambassador can’t say that Prince Harry will never be deported!

Jane Hartley, the American ambassador to the UK, spoke about Prince Harry’s visa last month. Hartley is consistently asked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex whenever she’s interviewed, because that’s how obsessive and possessive British media remains about Harry and Meghan. Hartley’s March comments made headlines because she basically shrugged off the Heritage Foundation’s unhinged, year-long campaign to force the Biden administration to “release” Harry’s immigration records. Hartley said flatly that the Biden administration will never deport Harry. Now Hartley’s comments are being used by the Heritage Foundation to prove why… the Biden administration should violate a resident alien’s privacy and publicly release their A-File.

Pressure on the US government to release the Duke of Sussex’s visa records has intensified after campaigners seized on comments made by the American ambassador to London that Harry would not be deported while Joe Biden was president. The conservative Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington DC, which has gone to court to seek the release of the file, has submitted the remarks made by Jane Hartley as part of their case. The group has been pushing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to open the dossier on Prince Harry under America’s Freedom of Information laws.

Asked about the current position regarding the possibility of the Prince being deported in an interview on Sky News on March 25, Ms Hartley replied “Well it’s not going to happen in the Biden administration.” Her remarks were described as “extraordinary“ by the Heritage Foundation. In its court filing, the foundation maintained the DHS had said none of the information could be released “without acknowledging what Prince Harry’s immigration status is or tipping our hand as to what it is.”

However, the foundation said, Ms Hartley had spoken publicly about some of the information which it wanted to make public.

“Ambassador Hartley categorically stated that the Duke of Sussex will not be deported by the Biden Administration. Thus, the Executive Branch has now categorically stated that, regardless of future circumstances, they will decline to deport the Duke of Sussex – even in the most extreme of cases.”

Her remarks, it added, “dramatically enhance the already compelling public interest in disclosure.” By speaking publicly. Ms Hartley had effectively repudiated the Biden administration’s case for refusing to release the information. “Ambassador Hartley’s statement cannot be dismissed as uninformed or idle polite speculation or conversational puffery,” it added.
She was speaking in her official capacity in the interview.

“Ambassador Hartley knew full well that the question had media and political salience, and yet she still spoke directly to the issues being litigated in this case by answering the question,” it said. So far the Biden administration has refused to make the Duke’s application public.

[From The Telegraph]

At some point, surely other American outlets have to begin tracking this as what it is – a high-level and deranged attempt by extreme British right-wingers to harass not only the Sussexes, but the Biden administration and DHS. There is no precedent for a band of conservative extremists targeting a resident alien and trying to force a Democratic administration to change their policies on the release of visa records. I hope DHS’s lawyers point out that this case is being used to further the British right-wing media’s agenda, and DHS submits the obscene statements made by British media figures about this issue.

Seems to me she just made everything worse. Should’ve kept her mouth shut. No comment. I don’t comment on matters before the court, or something. ANYTHING would have been better than making such a foolish, no-way-back statement. She just put her President in an untenable position. So who’s side is she REALLY on??

    • Chloe says:

Clearly the biden admin or she wouldn’t have been appointed. Harry is a private individual. US can’t just give his visa application freely to the press. If they did, he could sue them into their next lifetime.

    • Jais says:

Lordy, idk. If I was her, I’d just want to yell what’s wrong with you at this whole HF searching expedition. Like get over yourselves, what is wrong with you and let this man go. But yeah she’s an ambassador so diplomacy.

    • Kingston says:

Nothing the ambassador says will have any effect on this ‘going nowhere’ case.

Unlike the little island being represented by this waste man and his band of opportunists, America is a nation built on laws, not the caprice of a king. American citizens/residents/etc have rights and freedoms that perhaps are not fully grasped by the little waste man.

If the baying of a band of dissidents could force those responsible for administering America’s legal system to change capriciously, we all would know by now what was meant by “einstein” as applied in the case of melania trump’s “einstein visa.”

    • Wesley says:

I take her meaning to be that there is nothing extraordinary in Harry’s visa application which would warrant the Administration deporting him. If he broke any laws for which deportation was appropriate, he would be. But he hasn’t.

  2. Libra says:

This isn’t just about Harry. If they succeed in making his record public, it will set a precedence for releasing any record the Heritage Foundation asks for, putting many at risk. Melania Trump?

  3. TheOriginalMia says:

The eye roll I just did reading this story. She commented and said what everyone who know about this case is already thinking. Harry won’t be deported by the Biden administration. Ooh…she knows some secret information that we have to know, instead of the Ambassador is utilizing her common sense to sniff out bs 💩 when she hears it.

    • PC says:

My sentiments exactly. I have not heard or read of any American news organization making a big deal out of Harry’s residency status. It’s because, like the Ambassador, they know this is all BS. The HF is doing itself no favors (except monetary probably) taking on the this BM unwinnable case. Harry will not be deported by any administration! If this case goes all the way to the Supreme Court, it ain’t happening. They probably wouldn’t even give it a hearing.

  4. Chloe says:

“dramatically enhance the already compelling public interest in disclosure.”

Literally no one is asking for the disclosure of Harry’s visa’s application except the heritage foundation

  5. Amy says:

There’s a simple answer to this problem: Harry can become a naturalized American citizen since he’s married to an American.

  6. YeahRight says:

Because he’s not going to be deported. It’s silly to think that’s going to happen. He’s going to get kicked out for *checks notes* experimental drug use while in the UK and smoking weed in California which is where he currently lives where it’s legal. Like get out of here. He has a real job, married to an American and has American kids. They need to stop wasting time with this foolishness.

    • Dee(2) says:

This another instance of the British media and these British commentators/think tanks not really getting American sentiment. The attitudes towards drug use in the United States has shifted dramatically in the last 10 to 15 years, as well as the actual decriminalization or outright legalization of certain drugs. Harry isn’t talking about being a drug mule for El Chapo he smoked/smokes weed. No one cares, especially not enough to see him deported. There’s dispensaries on every other corner in some states, and it has brought in a major amount of tax dollars. You’re going to find it difficult to even get Republican support in those areas for making this a deportable offense.

  7. Bad Janet says:

I find it so funny how Harry and Meghan are basically the RF, the rota, and the Heritage Foundation’s Roman Empire. This obsession is remarkable.

  8. Cessily says:

Time to throw the Brits out of American think tanks.. personal I think organizations like the Heritage Foundation need to be dismantled.. someone needs to do a deep dive into ever financial of this propaganda weapon masquerading as a think tank.

  9. Saucy&Sassy says:

If the Judge is stupid enough (yes, I said stupid) to let out ONE Visa application, it will open the door for every application. Rupert Murdoch’s would be the first one, because after the Dominian lawsuit there’s more than enough evidence showing that he was instrumental in using his media to overthrow democracy in the US. If there are no secure elections, how do you have democracy? Did Rupert Murdoch tell the US when he entered the country on a Visa that this was his intent?

Go ahead Heritage Foundation–this will open a can of worms that will not be in your best interest.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Non Trumpy lawyers will follow the law which means everyone’s rights will be protected. It’s the Trumpy ones who will harass people they don’t like and protect those they do.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Brassy Rebel, he was appointed to the federal bench in 2019–a Trump appointment.

And I found, “Nichols is a member of the conservative, anti-choice Federalist Society”

    • Underhill says:

Saucy &Sassy, you got that right. I would love love love to see Ruperto Murdoch booted from this country. So FAAFO, Heritage Foundation.

  10. Brassy Rebel says:

It’s not the Biden administration that won’t deport him. It’s any administration that follows the actual law and policy. The president doesn’t decide who does or doesn’t get deported. She was wrong to make it a political thing. Now the batsh*t crazy rightwingers will get several more news cycles out of it. And Trump will claim he has the power to deport based on this. Yeah, she made it worse.
