The White House clapped back on Selena Gomez after she cried about deportations

As soon as Donald Trump came into office, ICE began implementing the mass-deportation plan which millions of Americans voted for. During the election, they kept polling people on whether they really understood what Trump wanted to do, and the overwhelming majority of Trump voters perfectly understood that they were voting for mass deportations. So here we are. Last week, Selena Gomez – who is Mexican-American – recorded a tearful message about the deportations. She cried because she has no idea what to do or how to help her community. While she deleted that video, the right-wing media became obsessed with the video and obsessed with “dunking” on Selena… for being upset that people were being deported. Well, here’s a bonkers update. The Trump White House has used their power and reach to make a video directed at Selena Gomez, a private citizen, slamming her for crying about mass deportations. This is where we are in the discourse.

Even though Donald Trump and his supporters regularly do and say shocking, unhinged things, this is taking it to a bonkers new level. Again, this is a video released BY THE WHITE HOUSE. This was not produced by the Republican Party as a piece of political theater. This was not something cobbled together by some Nazi in his basement and reposted by Trump on one of his social media accounts. This is putting the full weight of the Trump White House behind… making fun of Selena Gomez for crying about children being deported and her community being torn apart by mass deportations. It actually indicates, to me, that someone in the White House is actually worried that compassionate people might see Selena Gomez (one of the most famous Mexican-Americans in the world) crying over catastrophically bad policy and take her side.

I do not have words to how bonkers this is.

  2. This is unfortunately the world we live in with this orange stain. So very sad.

    • mmrb says:

its not even the orange stain, its the P2025 puppetmasters that he answers to and who own his backside. he’s just the frontman of the band, the back up singers have all the power now.
      be.very.afraid, about whats to come.

  3. Normades says:

Disgusting. Selena is a private citizen and is perfectly entitled to voice her opinions free from governmental backlash. This is disgraceful, I hope she has a good security team.

  4. Mrs Robinson says:

It’s not surprising to me at all. This is how they have followers/supporters, by creating their own reality and forcing it at people through social media. The more outrageous the better because it plays to the algorithm.
Isn’t it depressing/enraging to think that Zuckerberg made money off of the world’s reaction to the murder of George Floyd? And now is making money off of deportations?

  5. Emily says:

This is so dangerous. They’re targeting Selena Gomez to not only silence her but intimidate others from speaking out.

  6. Tuesday says:

Something tells me no one will be claiming her first amendment rights were violated.

  7. slippers4life says:

Not only are they afraid people will take her seriously as one of the most famous Mexican Americans, they are afraid people will take her seriously as a member of the billionaire class!.

  8. jais says:

Sigh. Good for Selena for speaking up.

      Regarding Elon’s actions:
      Heather Cox Richardson says

“it’s a coup. Right before our eyes. Dismantling the government. Musk wants to wipe out the dollar and start using digital currency. This has been his agenda all along. The tarrifs are a distraction.”

Normally the military would act, so seems like they are in support. Not sure why Democrat leaders are not swiftly mobilizing to act.

      • PunkyMomma says:

Yes. It’s always been about destabilizing the dollar to legitimize and replace it with crypto currency. This has been Musk’s dream since his PayPal days.

This is Trump’s 4th Reich not wanting anyone famous dissenting.

  10. QuiteContrary says:

Trump is the most thin-skinned president ever. Of course, this happened. We’re living in hell.

  11. Nicole says:

This is so embarrassing for our country, ugh.

  12. CC says:

Although you describe it accurately in the body of the text, calling it “clapping back” in the title minimizes how dangerous the White House’s propaganda video directly targeting Gomez is.

  13. Henny Penny says:

If someone with money and connections feels so powerless and is, in fact, also extremely vulnerable to a threatening and dangerous direct attack from the President of the United States that literally puts her in danger because of his unhinged de facto army of January 6th miscreants, where does that leave the rest of us?

  14. Is that so? says:

“ It actually indicates, to me, that someone in the White House is actually worried that compassionate people might see Selena Gomez (one of the most famous Mexican-Americans in the world) crying over catastrophically bad policy and take her side.”

    Tru dat!

This was also his behavior last term. There was no one so far down on the ladder who disagreed with him that he would hesitate to punch down at.

  15. Ciotog says:

I’m going to guess that all three of these women were killed by men. Yet you will never see a WH video blaming all men for their tragic murders.

  16. Brassy Rebel says:

This White House loves punching down. It effectively silences people. And wtf does Selena Gomez have to do with people murdered by undocumented people? Nothing. But it’s a great example of “what aboutism” as practiced by authoritarians throughout the world.
