I was on the phone with my mother during the bleak wee hours of election night 2024, and I remember saying to her, “This is going to be so much worse than the first round.” And here we are. So while I’m pea green with envy at them, I honestly don’t begrudge the slew of celebrities who’ve used their means to gtfo. Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi, Rosie O’Donnell, Richard Gere, they’ve all relocated to Europe, while Joe Pantoliano is in a constant state of readiness to pick up and leave, and Beyonce & Jay-Z are reportedly looking at a place in the Cotswolds, what’s quickly turning into UK’s Little Hollywood. But now someone is bucking the trend: Ed Sheeran just appeared on The 2 Johnnies podcast where he announced that he and his family — wife Cherry Seaborn and daughters Lyra, 4, and Jupiter, 2 — are about to move to the US so they won’t be apart during Ed’s upcoming tour. And yes, Ed is well aware that he’s swimming against the current moving to the US right now.
“I’m just about to move to America,” Ed explained on the Sept. 7 episode of The 2 Johnnies Podcast. “I feel like I might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”
Indeed, becoming a dad made the Grammy winner, who currently lives in Suffolk, reevaluate all aspects of his life.
“Even just not being a f–king maniac with drink and drugs or smoking,” he told Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast in April. “I exercise now—never exercised before. I get up in the morning, rather, I used to sleep ‘til like 4 p.m. It really has changed dramatically.
He added, “I’m an early riser and an early bedtime. I’m up at 5:30 every morning.”
The 34-year-old—who tied the knot with Cherry, 33, in 2019—has prioritized time with his girls, too. He added, “I’m home more. My work schedule is based around them rather than based around me.”
Although Ed has his own impressive discography, he’s also happy to sing whatever Lyra and Jupiter want him to.
“It’s usually Moana,” he revealed. “I have a song on my album called ‘Sapphire’ that they love, so it’s either Moana or ‘Sapphire.’”
As for where Ed might end up? When he’s ready to put out some country tracks, he’ll be heading down to Tennessee.
“Nashville is my favorite city in the States,” he explained on CHD. “My end goal would be like, ‘I’m gonna move to Nashville and transition to country.’ I think you just have to do it properly. It’s a genre you have to really respect. It’s not just a dip in and out.”
As he put it, “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Once you’re there, you’re there.”
First of all, the ladies in the Seaborn-Sheeran household are all fabulously named. Cherry, Lyra, Jupiter, all splendid and unique. And then there’s Ed. He might actually want to take up Rod Stewart’s name for him just to try and spice it up: old ginger bollocks! As for the upcoming tour, OGB’s (I’m gonna make it happen, folks!) new album Play comes out on Friday, and then he has one concert in Las Vegas on September 20. The rest of the tour seems to start in earnest in early December… in Europe! Seriously, he’ll be in France, Germany, then three dates in the UK before beginning 2026 with two full months in Australia. No other US dates are listed on his website yet. Ed, did you mean to tell us your family was moving to Oz? Confusion aside, I wish their family the best of luck during their time in America. May they enjoy our country’s robust healthcare, fine institutions of arts and learning, beautiful national parks, peaceful cities, I could go on and on.
Finally, I’m assuming that “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back” is already on a t-shirt and being sold on Etsy, yes? If not, then it ought to be!!
Update by CB: Ed Sheeran has since issued a clarification, saying he’s not moving permanently and just doesn’t want to commute from the UK. He wrote on Instagram “I’m not moving, I’m going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I’m touring on, don’t wanna commute from London to San Diego.”

Eh yeah it sounded like his quotes it was specifically for his tour. And then I feel like the Nashville/country thing was another thought that popped up during his rambling! Whatevs I’m sure he has a few houses!
Yeah, a temporary move makes total sense.
