Hilary Duff is making an album and docuseries about her return to music

It’s been ten years since Hilary Duff released new music. Her last album, Breathe In, Breathe Out, dropped in June 2015. BIBO was the album that featured bangers like “Sparks.” If you don’t remember it, that’s because it dropped off the radar pretty quickly. While she may not have been making music, Hilary’s kept busy over the last decade. She got divorced, remarried, had three more kids, and starred in two different TV series. Well, Hilary must have felt her musical urges calling again because she just announced that she’s changed record labels and is currently in the process of recording her sixth studio album. She’s also filming a docuseries about her comeback and how she’ll balance her personal and professional life.

Hilary Duff has signed with Atlantic Records in anticipation of her return to music.

Duff, who last released her fifth studio album “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” in June 2015, will also be the subject of a docuseries that chronicles her journey back to music and explores her personal life.

The docuseries will be directed and executive-produced by Sam Wrench, who has sat at the helm for “A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” through Next of Kin Content. According to a release, the docuseries will embrace “the ups, downs and everything in between,” and promises that “fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.”

Duff previously released her first few albums (“Metamorphosis,” “Hilary Duff“) through Buena Vista and Hollywood Records. She signed to RCA Records in July 2014 and subsequently released its first single “Chasing the Sun” written by Jason Reeves, Colbie Caillat and Toby Gad. “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” was her sole album on the imprint and at the time her first in seven years following 2007’s “Dignity.” Her last music release was a cover of Third Eye Blind’s “Never Let You Go” alongside RAC and her husband Matthew Koma.

Docuseries are all the rage now, so I suppose if you’re a beloved former child star trying to make a musical comeback, that’s a great bit of marketing. I think if she wants to generate buzz to get people watching it, Hilary is going to have to drop some gossip about her fame in the early days. There’s an audience for these things, especially after the Britney documentary and the Nickelodeon exposé. I don’t mean she has to throw Lindsay Lohan under the bus, but maybe she can throw us a few bones by talking about her alleged feud with Lalaine, that awkwardness with Faye Dunaway, or her crush on Chad Michael Murray. Give us something, Hil!

Anyway, I had no idea that Hilary hasn’t released new music in a decade! She pops up on the 2000s channel on SiriusXM so often that I feel like she’s always on my radio. The pop music landscape is so different now that I’m interested in seeing what Hilary brings to the table. I miss the 2000s/2010s pop music. I hope she starts a revolution that brings that style back.

I have always loved her music. It’s just so happy and also empowering. I used to listen to it when getting ready to go anywhere and everywhere.

Also – on a superficial note – she has always been incredibly pretty but baby faced in a way? She just looked younger and her face had fewer angles and contrasts. She has grown into herself and she is both natural looking and gorgeous. Beautiful.

  2. DaveW says:

I don’t know…I anticipate the album making as big a bang on the charts as the latest Jessica Simpson drop. Peak Hilary Duff was outside my timeframe but she never seemed all that interesting so wonder how compelling a docuseries would be. I assume she has a nanny or two plus other paid staff to help with cooking/cleaning/laundry so wonder if she’ll include or acknowledge them as part of the show.

  3. Chaine says:

Is anyone actually asking for this? She’s always seemed like a genuinely nice person, but I could not for the life of me tell you the name of any of her songs or recall any lyrics or melodies

  4. FAFO says:

This is going to go the way of the JLo documentary.
