Rielle Hunter breaks silence in GQ, reveals herself to be a moron

rielle3

I saw a little snippet of this on Morning Joe a few minutes ago, and I couldn’t believe it. But it’s true! John Edwards’ mistress/baby-mama sat down for a profile and photo shoot with GQ magazine! Yikes. First of all, I was prepared to put the weight of the blame for this affair on John, but it looks like Rielle is just as crazy as him. The full GQ piece is here (I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but I’ve skimmed, and this bitch is insane). I should note that this is the first time Rielle has discussed anything about the situation, and she’s even been praised for keeping her mouth shut up until this point. Here’s the NY Post’s epic summary (I’m sorry it’s so long, Rielle has a lot to say):

John Edwards’ mistress has revealed for the first time how the illicit lovers fell in lust and slept together the night they met — and claims the presidential candidate predicted the wild romp would cause his premature ejection from politics.

“Falling in love with you could really f- – – up my plans for becoming president,” Edwards told vixen videographer Rielle Hunter after their sexual tryst at Manhattan’s Regency hotel in February 2006.

In her bombshell interview with GQ, Hunter says:

* Her first words to him were “You’re so hot” — and they had sex later that night in his hotel room.
* Edwards was scared to death of his cancer-stricken wife, Elizabeth, fearing if she knew the truth, “he would be pummeled.”
* The then-presidential candidate hoped Hunter, pregnant with his child, would get an abortion.

Contrary to various accounts of their affair, Hunter, 45, told the magazine she met the former North Carolina senator on the corner of 61st Street and Park Avenue in February 2006, and did not pick him up at a bar. She had spotted him earlier in the lounge of The Regency hotel, but they did not speak.

“I did not know who he was,” Hunter said. “The John Edwards I saw in 2004 on TV I believed to be a disconnected, two-dimensional geek kind of guy. And the man sitting across the room was not that at all.”

After learning who he was, she gave her business card to one of Edwards’ aides.
“It said, ‘Rielle Hunter. Being is free,’ ” she recalled.

Edwards, 56, later looked for her at the lounge and was disappointed she was gone, she said.

“So when he walked around the corner [again] and saw me standing there, he lit up like a Christmas tree. And I thought his reaction when he saw me was just so cute,” she said. “I mean, he looked like a little kid at Christmas. And I just uttered to him, ‘You’re so hot.’ And he said, ‘Why, thank you!’ And he almost jumped into my arms. Literally.”

Later that night, Hunter said, he invited her to his hotel room. She said she told the friends she was with, ” ‘I won’t sleep with him.’ And so I went over to his room, and I walked in. And I. Was. Terrified. Because I had never experienced anything like what was flowing between us.”

“Come closer. I won’t bite you,” Edwards beckoned.

“There was so much attraction and so much — I want to say love,” she said. “And, um, I eventually walked over to his side of the room. He was pretty relentless. And that’s all I’m gonna say on that.”

That was Feb. 21. Over the next four days, “we talked on the phone almost every night for four hours,” she said, and by then, she was “head-over-heels in love.”

To keep their affair secret from his wife, Hunter bought a second cellphone for Edwards — identical to his regular one — for her to call him on. She said Elizabeth Edwards, 60, learned of the relationship after discovering the second phone and dialing the last number called.

“I answered the phone and said, ‘Hey, baby,’ ” Hunter said. “And, click. And then [Elizabeth] confronted him and confronted him, and he finally confessed.”

Hunter said she learned she was pregnant in July 2007 — and that Edwards also knew, even before he and his wife publicly renewed their vows. She said he told her he would support her if she kept the baby.

But “on some level, he was hoping I would get an abortion,” she said. “He wasn’t happy about the timing. Which is understandable. He was married and running for president.”

Edwards, the 2004 Democratic vice-presidential candidate, had no trouble lying to his wife, to his country and to himself, but Hunter insisted he would never lie to her.
Unlike the way he feels about estranged wife Elizabeth, “he’s not afraid of me,” Hunter said.

“He’ll tell me anything and everything. He has no fear that I’m going to abuse him.”

Elizabeth Edwards, on the other hand, was routinely abusive, Hunter said. “I believe what happened in his marriage is, he could not go to his wife and say, ‘We have an issue.’ Because he would be pummeled,” she said.

“Most of his mistakes or errors in judgment were because of his fear of the wrath of Elizabeth . . . And you know, the wrath of Elizabeth is a mighty wrath.”

Although she has been portrayed as a scheming seductress, Hunter said Edwards was the one who seduced her. “I’m not a predator, I’m not a gold digger, I’m not the stalker. I didn’t have any power in that way in our relationship,” she said. “He held all the power.”

When Edwards denied he was the baby’s father in interviews and his aide Andrew Young came forward to claim paternity, Hunter said she was heartbroken but understood. Edwards “was traumatized,” she said. “Because he had been living a life that was now exposed. A hidden life, when it is exposed, is a traumatic event for the person going through it. And they’re not in their right mind.”

She said Young was willing to take the fall for Edwards because “Andrew was in love with Johnny. In love with him. Beyond. And I believe he loved Johnny more than he loved [his own wife] Cheri, so Johnny was the third person in their relationship.”

Hunter said she received financial assistance through Young, but insisted she was never paid “hush money.”

“Andrew gave me money because he felt I shouldn’t be using my own money to travel to see Johnny,” she said. “Andrew always wanted to ‘take care of everything.’ ”

She refused to talk about the purported sex tape of Edwards and a pregnant Hunter that is now at the center of a legal battle involving her and Young.

Edwards finally admitted in January that he was the father of her 2-year-old daughter, Frances Quinn. Hunter said she waited until he came clean to tell her side of the story.
“I didn’t feel like I could ever speak until he did that,” she said. “Because had I spoken, I would have emasculated him. And I could not emasculate him.”

Despite everything they have been through and the pain he has caused her, Hunter said her love for Edwards is “unconditional” — and indicated she hopes they’ll be together forever at some point.

“We love each other very much,” she said. “And that hasn’t changed, and I believe that will be till death do us part. The love doesn’t go away.”

[From The NY Post]

Okay, set aside the insanity for a second and just think about what is motivating this woman. The only thing she really knows about Elizabeth Edwards is what John told her – and I do think John was probably laying it on pretty thick with Rielle. Now, is Rielle telling the truth in this interview? Her timeline seems pretty consistent, so although she’s crazy, she’s not a liar. I’m starting to think of her as simply some insane hussy who fell in love and did everything she could to stay in the life of the man she loved. She doesn’t seem to have any self-respect… but people do crazy sh-t when they’re in love. I don’t know. I mean, I think this woman is a piece of work, but I’m also kind of relieved that she seems so harmless and moronic.

Those pictures are awful! Stupid bitch, I hate when people (her) talk bad about Elizabeth Edwards.

  2. Marjalane says:

The article was bad enough- what color is the sky in her world? But what’s up with the photo shoot?! This is not a hot woman! Posing with her daughters toys…? I’m astounded that this saga has the capacity to keep getting more and more bizarre.

  3. DoMaJoReMc says:

    TRASHY

  4. prettytarheelfan says:

It’s her choice to come out and say her side, I’m not going to bash her for that. I am going to say that she knew he was married, and she and John disrespected that marriage by cheating. Both are responsible for that.
The most disgusting part of the whole thing, for me, is that HER DAUGHTER is in the photographs with her. That’s taking it to a new level of low.

  5. niamh (neev) says:

Sounds like he’s been feeding her bullshit since the get-go and she’s been eating it up. I have a friend like her, she’s so desperate she refuses to believe that guy is playing her. I feel sick for Elizabeth.

  6. Lola says:

Posing sexy … on the bed with your child’s toys? Yuck!

  7. Scout says:

These photos are bad but they don’t, to me, look anything like her – if they did, they would be worse! And she is a total lowlife life to get her 15 mins. at the expense of a dying woman. Making this kind of stuff public when there are children involved who can read and whose mother is – again – dying – and they will be left with that pathetic excuse for a father. RH got her man and changed – for the worse – the lives of so many people, she should be very afraid of the karma she has coming. Go away and hide for the rest of your life! Please! It is immoral to give her a forum to tell her sordid story!

  8. Maritimer says:

    Wow.
Just lost any respect I had for this woman (ok, let’s be honest, there wasn’t much to begin with).
Although I don’t condone it, I do understand her need to have her side of the story told….but this? Why to GQ? Why would you give details so disparaging of others? So personal?
And, most importantly, why the hell would you ever pose for photo shoot like this…or at all? How degrading.
Finally, WTF is her daughter in the picture for? If you want to be a trampy sell out for some cash, go ahead…but don’t drag your innocent child down with you.

  9. Popcorny says:

The first pic looks like she’s cranking some “morning wind”.

  10. free says:

anyone else hate Mika on Morning Joe or is it just me?

that woman is just weird. she flirts with the men and she acts all sexy and, well, look at her, she is gross
she needs to do something with that hair….wow!

  11. free says:

i’m more interested in crazy Elizabeth
i heard she is just a stark raving beatch full of hate

that’s the story i want to hear

  12. Kate says:

Read Game Change and The Politician and you’ll get a lot of information on Edwards et al. Let’s just say the public image of Elizabeth Edwards is as big a fraud as the public image of Tiger Woods was. She is as crazy as Rielle, John Edwards and this Andrew Young character. The whole lot of them deserve each other.

  13. Ursula says:

    Puke

  14. Tia C says:

Another one who needs to just quietly go away.

  15. Lee says:

This photo shoot is beyond the pale. Oh. My. Gawd. “Sexy” on your toddler’s bed amongst their stuffies? Oh, and for good measure? With your toddler in one of the shots? F—k. My first thought with the first photo was that she looks like an ugly low-rent hooker, and then I saw the next ones, and knew for sure.

  16. Megan says:

My heart hurts for Elizabeth Edwards. She was betrayed by her partner in life and now she’s being publicly humiliated over and over. The whole thing Rielle says about their marriage being broken so she’s not a homewrecker is such foolishness; she is a homewrecker.

  17. Roma says:

I had an affair once with a married man; I was in my early 20s and fell for the “my life is miserable, my wife is cold and unloving, I’m going to leave her” spiel that that cheating men love to lay on thick. I thought he’d leave her and be with me. I finally met her in a social situation and realized she was lovely and that he was painting her out to be a monster… I went to the washroom and threw up. I never spoke to him again.

    Rielle is crazy and deluded.

  18. Fire says:

Lee – my thoughts exactly. She is not doing herself any favors with this interview or the photo shoot. She should have continued to keep her trap shut! Low.Rent.Hooker

  19. guilty pleasures says:

Worst photo shoot I have EVER seen, unattractive subject, inside and out, terrible poses, makes her leg look like some massive unshapely club-like thing,
posing with her baby, clutched in a claw-like grip as she stares ‘provocatively’ at the camera?? WTF?
    Terrible, terrible, terrible.
And to those commenting on the spurned wife, she is still the spurned wife, he could choose to leave her if she is from Hell, but didn’t. He cheated with this maroon!

  20. happymom says:

All I can think is: this dick wad actually could have been President of the United States.

  21. Erin says:

@happymom, for REAL. Such a great lesson that we should NEVER buy what politicians are selling, at least not at face value.

This woman is beyond gone. Posing for pictures like that WITH YOUR CHILD?? How is her daughter going to feel in ten years when she finds out all this stuff on the internet?

  22. Sudini says:

This photo shoot is SO wrong on so many levels. We’re they trying for the whole Madonna/whore thing? Just so incredibly gross.

What a total idiot she is. WHAT is there to love about a man who would so flippantly cheat on his dying wife?

  23. Judy says:

Roma, coming from me (and my total HATE of Kate Gosselin because she’s screwing her bodyguard and LYING about it), I have to say that, in this instance, I agree with you that Rielle is crazy and deluded, but I think she’s relatively harmless and has been mostly a pawn in this saga. At least, Rielle is honest about bedding Edwards. She called Barbara Walters and cried about these pics because she was somewhat misled. And I have read over and over what a real-life “B” Elizabeth is. STILL, Rielle is not without blame, but the BIGGEST SLEAZEBALL is Edwards who knows no shame. I HATE LIARS.

  24. Andrea says:

    Proverbs 30:20
“This is the way of an adulteress: She eats and wipes her mouth and says, ‘I’ve done nothing wrong.’

  25. lucy2 says:

In agreement about the horrid photo shoot and the other comments regarding her. Does she have no idea how all of this will affect her daughter???
And to claim Elizabeth is abusive – as if she hasn’t done enough to the woman.

Clearly a moron – the guy screws around with her even though they both know he’s married, renews his vows with his wife, asks her to terminate the pregnancy, denies he’s the father, makes someone else claim paternity, etc. He’s a liar and a pig…but she hopes they’ll be together forever because it’s true love? She truly is stupid.

  26. Sudini says:

I’ve also heard about what a real life “b*tch” Elizabeth is. But it drives me crazy to hear that – it’s like a half-hearted attempt at justifying John’s behavior. Or at least a way of deflecting attention from the fact that he’s a raging a**hole with absolutely no conscience. Let the majority of the blame fall on him. HE is the one who was responsibile for upholding his wedding vows. And HE is the one who lied, and lied, and lied to please his own ego.

  27. Maritimer says:

Oh Judy, now you’ve got me curious!!

“and my total HATE of Kate Gosselin because she’s screwing her bodyguard and LYING about it”

Do you have any inside knowledge, or this just you buying in to the media hype? Do tell…

  28. Judy says:

Maritimer, I’ve read every single thing there is to read about this woman. You’ll just have to read for yourself. She needs a bodyguard about as much as I do. Big stars don’t even have one. There are lots of articles about their “adjoining” rooms; they were seen holding hands in the lobby of a hotel early one morning last summer by a reporter. Read all the articles; look at all the pics of them together. Look at him with his arm around her and holding her wrist at the Red Carpet affair recently. There’s not enough room here to cover it.

  29. SolitaryAngel says:

    Roma:
I did that too; how is it that these men convince us that the wife is so bad? I thought she was, and I met her and realized she was a better person than me. I felt bad for years.

This photo shoot is completely out-of-line and Reilly is clearly mental. Edwards is beyond despicable; maybe they deserve each other. The poor little girl, doesn’t.

  30. hmm says:

Who persuaded her to do this interview? I placed the blame squarely on Edwards’ shoulders for his despicable behavior but this woman is clearly missing a few things. He didn’t leave politics, he was disgraced and irrevocably ruined because he couldn’t keep it in his pants. He didn’t leave his wife by choice, he was humiliated in the press and she chose to end the farce of a marriage. And lastly, he didn’t proudly proclaim that he had fathered this child, he lied and denied until he was forced to admit the truth. And why does she think that she needs to tell the story of his marriage and to portray it as a marriage that was broken for 25 years before she entered the picture? He and Elizabeth had 4 children together and the least she could do is respect that fact.

  31. LOVE ANGELINA says:

SICK…this made my stomach hurt. Whats with the picture of her and the stuffed animals. OK I would have preferred she never opened her mouth. This whole this with them is disgusting.

  32. bellaluna says:

The only true victims in this mess are Elizabeth and the child. Don’t cry to me over your own stupidity. I don’t suffer fools well.

Ladies, men convince us that the wife is so bad because we have been taught from a very young age that other women are our competition, not our friends. Start respecting yourself and other women, and stop giving backhanded compliments and calling other women “bitches.”

  33. sonola trip says:

Well isn’t this rich. Elizabeth blamed Rielle for the affair and continued to defend John as a “magnificent” man. Rielle blames an “abusive” Elizabeth for the affair and defends poor “traumatized” John. Notice how these two women are quick to blame each other and not Mr. Happy Pants.

  34. Sudini says:

    @bellaluna & sonola trip – Word!

  35. CB Rawks says:

“It said, ‘Rielle Hunter. Being is free,’ ” she recalled.”

    Ugh. What a complete Jackass.
I rolled my eyes so violently I think they got stuck in the back of my head.

  36. Shannon says:

Rielle is absolutely bonkers. I had a chance to see her website before the Edwards people had it taken down. It was filled with inspirational messages and rainbows and she basically thinks she’s a psychic. The “being is free” crap goes right along with it haha.

  37. Judy says:

Sudini, you said what I tried to say much better than I did. And regardless of whether or not Elizabeth deserves the title of “B,” she did NOT DESERVE to be used by and lied to by her beyond-contemptible husband. John Edwards is a slimey excuse for a human being and deserves anything Elizabeth throws his way. I hope he goes to prison, and, by the way, I want my donation to his campaign back!

  38. prissa says:

I absolutely HATE these pictures and what they promote. What got her known: her body (posing with just a shirt on), sex (represented by the bed) and that child (well we have the pic of the kid but her on the bed with the stuffed animals – its just too much!). What a way to play up and celebrate having loose morals. Sickening!

  39. Uzi says:

What I don’t understand is why John Edwards, who made millions as a trial lawyer before he entered politics, wasn’t savvy enough to have Rielle sign a confidentiality agreement in exchange for a bonus paycheck. His situation is bad enough; why does he want all the dirty details spilled out in the press? Yes, Rielle is a homewrecking “moron,” but this makes Edwards look even dumber for not having her muzzled!

  40. Bek says:

Gross. What is interesting to me however, is that a woman like Rielle Hunter (who is clearly not a manufactured beauty straight from hollywood) can receive a kick to the pants from most people in America for what she’s done to this family–yet, all the ridiculous hollywood starlets get a pass from people (and from the media) when they do the same thing. I would say that THAT is the problem for us women. We justify when we think somebody’s pretty, and we’re harsh when they’re not. And the man is always sparkling clean. And when some of us find our own married man to lust after, we imagine ourselves as one of the “pretty” ones who deserves a little more lovin’ than what we’re getting. It’s all terrible, really.

  41. Brooklyn says:

haha she looks like she has that baby arm thing (Kristen Wigg does it in that one SNL skit they always do) in the first photo. these are TERRIBLE.

  42. Madisyn says:

If they LOVE each other so much, why is he not with her? Delusional!

  43. Ophelia says:

I don’t have an opinion on Elizabeth Edwards and her alleged insanity. But if she is so terrible, I’d assume she was terrible prior to her cancer, so “Johnny” should have just left her and THEN boned Hunter. No excuse there. I think he’s a rat bastard, though, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she wasn’t crazy. And anyway, she’s not Jerry Falwell or some other nazi, would it have been possible for Hunter to have maybe waited until she died?

  44. UrbanRube says:

For a very revealing look at what motivates Rielle Hunter, see this L.A. Times article (not written by me or anyone I know):
