Sabrina Carpenter to the White House: Do not use my music for your ‘inhumane agenda’

The Trump administration psychos keep making these really screwed-up videos in an attempt to hype their fascism. They use AI in weird ways and there are also a bunch of neo-Nazis in the social media departments strewn about the administration. Well, the White House’s official account posted what I can only describe as a Gestapo fan-cam. It was a poorly-edited video of DHS agents arresting/detaining immigrants and/or critics. The White House used a Sabrina Carpenter song over the video, and Sabrina responded, commenting directly to the White House’s account, writing “this video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

Sabrina ratioed the White House – her tweet got 580K likes (as of this writing) while the White House’s original only got 23K. Sabrina’s tweet also got 19 million views, versus the WH’s tweet getting 3.5 million views. Good for Sabrina for clapping back hard. She should get her lawyers involved too, even if Twitter is like the wild west for copyright law.

Variety points out that the White House recently used Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” in one of their social media videos and Taylor didn’t say anything publicly. It could be that Taylor simply got her lawyers involved, but again, she didn’t say anything. Kenny Loggins was majorly pissed off when the Trump White House used “Danger Zone” and he complained loudly. I think that should be standard for artists who despise Trump – maybe they can’t get their music removed from these fascist fan-cams, but they can absolutely complain loudly.

  1. Who Were These People? says:

Thank you Sabrina, for not only protesting but using the exact right words and message. Evil and inhumane. New fan here.

    • Normades says:

Exactly. She could have put out some weak sauce statement that she doesn’t approve of her music being used for political purposes bla bla bla but no she went there and outright called out their abuse and propaganda. Other artists should take note (see Taylor)

  2. KC says:

Slightly unrelated: she looks like a 70’s/80’s country star here and I love it. Bringing back lots of memories of glam Dolly, Crystal Gayle, and the Mandrell sisters. IYKYK.

More importantly: good on her for immediately clapping back and making sure it’s clear she’s not ok with this vile administration. I hope it’s followed by legal action.

    • Smart&Messy says:

I don’t know. That doll wig, make up, fake tan and sparkly dress look downright itchy to me. I’d go crazy wearing all that stuff and it makes a naturally beautiful woman look old and haggard. But she is amazing for speaking up like this, good for her!

      • Mustang Sally says:

I saw a picture of her before her current ‘styling’ (hair, makeup, costumes) – she was incredibly, naturally pretty. I do admire her for speaking up!

  3. Ginger says:

Good for Sabrina! And before the Swifties come in here to say “But she gets death threats!!!!”
Lots of women, politicians, journalists get death threats. Gabby Gifford got shot in the face and still speaks out. Taylor is a billionaire and probably has secret service level of security. With what is going on now not speaking out when the Trump Administration does this is a choice.

    • Lau says:

Literally every artists have bashed them for using their music, it’s starting to be obvious that Swift just doesn’t care who uses her work. As long as she’s getting money in exchange it’s fine by her I guess.

    • minnow29 says:

I’ve gotten push back on this site for saying Taylor is totally fine with MAGA. But it’s pretty clear she’s totally cool with what is happening. She’s been photographed with right wing podcast bros, Brittany Mahomes, etc. No comment on Trump using her music? All of this is a-ok with her.

      • jcp says:

Yes! I’ve seen it too. They swarm posts like this to defend their emotional support billionaire.

She. does. not. care. She’s sued Etsy shops for using her lyrics. She’s incredibly litigious, but nary a peep about this?! Nah. She’s ok with it. It doesn’t affect her wallet so who cares? She’s too busy pumping out variants, shoddy merch, and hanging out with her maga besties.

      • Ginger says:

Yeah, if she wasn’t so litigious going after everyone people wouldn’t be AS annoyed by her not saying anything but her silence speaks volumes.

  4. Tuesday says:

These makeup looks are not going to age well. Good for her for saying something. And TS didn’t say anything for a reason.

  5. Amy Bee says:

Apparently the WH has used 3 of Taylor’s songs for videos without any complaint. Good for Sabrina.

  6. Jais says:

Good for her! What a swift and to the point response. Call out evil when you see it. Love it. Love her response.

    • Goldenmom says:

It is impressive how fast and comprehensively she did it. Good for her.

Meanwhile, in MAGA land, Taylor is having her grapes peeled for her. Believe it when people show you who they are.

      • Theresa says:

@goldenmom…Taylor has spoken out before…not this time but before. She made her disdain for Trump quite clear. Don’t be quick to jump to the conclusion that just because she hasn’t said anything means she is MAGA…just because she is still friends with Brittany Mahomes doesn’t mean she is MAGA. Behind the scenes she may have her attorneys working on it. Everything does NOT have to be made for public consumption…sometimes less is more

      • HeatherC says:

@Theresa you may believe that silence equals restraint but I believe silence equals complicity. She’s fine being tied to MAGA because that means more fans to spend more money on her merch. She really seems that she’d rather have the money than integrity. Or maybe she really down deep agrees with MAGA and Trump so her integrity is intact.

  7. Inge says:

    Well done Sabrina.

  8. Emily says:

The WH pathetically tried to use Sabrina’s lyrics against her in their response.

The WH isn’t a private content creator. They’re an official account for the government. They should be legally required to get consent from artists or pay for the use of artists’ music. (I work for a charity and there’s a lot of music we can’t use on IG as a business account in Canada).

  9. CM says:

Her response was quick and to the point! I admire that!!

  10. otaku fairy says:

Good for her. She’s right, it is evil and inhumane.

  11. NotMika says:

Remember when Sabrina’s (funny!) album cover inspired all the pearl clutching about how she was an anti-feminist MAGA? Then people listened to it and it was clever, man-teasing, women celebrating Sabrina Carpenter albumn?

I think she deserves your apology.

Also, you know Taylor Swift doesn’t like Trump FFS. Its been 10 years and every time this happens she stays off the socials for a while then puts out a documentary, or a carefully worded by Tree Paine endorsement or a donation months later and we find out she’s a Democrat again. Personally, I would prefer if she made the Swifties ruin his life everytime but waiting doesn’t make her Republican.

    • SillyWilly says:

You do understand people can like the album but still dislike the cover, right? This all or nothing, black and white thinking that so many on this site engage in is quite harmful.

  12. SIde Eye says:

Proud of her! Well done Sabrina! No ambiguity on where she stands. She’s clear as day. Everyone should be in the face of this maladministration and their nazi agenda.

  13. Kittenmom says:

Dang i may have to start liking Sabrina Carpenter

  14. Sue says:

I’m so glad to see Sabrina speak up and against these evil MAGAts. Fellow pop girlie Olivia Rodrigo recently did the same when they used her music.

    • dee says:

YES. As far as I’m aware, Olivia Rodrigo was the first pop girlie to shut down the White House on using her music (I might be wrong). Glad she’s set a precedent and we can see Sabrina and which other artists will speak out and use as much of their influence to shut down this disgusting administration.

      • Normades says:

I love how Olivia has been so outspoken about reproductive rights. Not enough young artists have been the same. I think Sabrina has the potential

  15. Mightymolly says:

Yaaay! I like her music so I’m glad I can do so without guilt – heck, now with pride!

  16. Maddy says:

Good on Sabrina. It’s really easy for artists to do the right thing here.

The silence of those who choose to ignore this, speaks volumes in contrast.

And btw, Taylor owns all of her music. If she wanted to, her music could have been removed within hours of those posts going up.

  17. bisynaptic says:

    I’m a fan of the flex. 💪

  18. DeeSea says:

I’m an Old who has loved Sabrina Carpenter since she came on the scene but I always kept my love under wraps, I guess because I’m so clearly not her target demographic. But this turn of events has made me want to sing my love for her from the rooftops. Go, Sabrina!!! Also, this is a great time of year to rewatch (or first-watch) her fun, goofy, entertaining holiday special on Netflix!

    • AC says:

Me too – I loved her since EICS. I also love Gracie and Olivia. All 3 are def younger than me , but I love their music . They’re all so talented, intelligent, well-spoken and gorgeous.

  19. martha says:

Record companies are quick enough to go after unauthorized users on other media platforms.

Hell – they’re trying to get a law passed that illegal downloads will get your ISP locked/canceled. (even if the ISP is used by other household members who’ve not downloaded)

So – I’m assuming they are too cowardly to sue the government – or, even to just make a public statement.

    Sidenote RE government propaganda:
1 – I think the amateurishness of the DHS/ICE/CBP agencies is deliberate. It gives a “look! We’re just like regular folks making our crap.”

2 – This is opposite approach to what communications is doing at places like the Dept of Labor, where their graphic designers are obviously skilled + know their fascist art history: posters in PWA or mid-1930s German style (all white workers; families at church; wife in the kitchen; cherub children) + posters in mid-30s American fascism stye (sepia-toned photo of Lincoln Memorial with Lincoln’s head surrounded by 11 stars representing the 11 Confederate states with German Gothic type “Americanism Will Prevail”)

I don’t think many people who aren’t on social media – especially Twitter/X – are aware of these artworks, but they are on the Dept of Labor website + can also be googled. Maybe Twitter/X is their target audience.

I’m not sure if the dept has been made them into physical posters, but I’m sure they’ve been copied by MAGA t-shirt vendors.

I would like to read a good investigation of the progression of Trump propaganda. Our very own Goebbels, Stephen Miller is involved somehow – no doubt – but he doesn’t strike me as particularly artistic or art-history savvy on his own.

    • martha says:

ETA – Somebody (who?) authorized and put Trump’s name on a government building today:

The US Institute of Peace now has “Donald J Trump” set onto several sides of the building including above the name on the front entrance. It was professionally done.

(Tomorrow, Thursday, there’s a meeting between Rwanda + the Democratic Republic of Congo to sign a deal brokered by the administration.)

The Trump letters are, thankfully, tacked onto the building and not engraved like the permanent US Institute of Peace sign. They can be removed, but they’ll leave a stain.

      • martha says:

        OMG

And, on Friday FIFA is having a ceremony at The Kennedy Center to give Trump their new Peace Prize to “honor individuals who have helped to unite people all over the world in peace.”

RE the USIP building, here’s link to WaPo story:

        https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/12/03/trump-name-peace-building/

I just read there that back in Feb, Trump issued an executive order to dismantle USIP. Cops were called in to drag its president out and almost all the staff was fired. Former staff say the building is mostly empty now.

But who knows who’s in there now?

USIP was created by Congress as independent institution and Trump had no authority to interfere there. USIP won their lawsuit, but the administration appealed.

  20. AC says:

Many gen Z artists are not afraid to be vocal and stand their ground against this administration’s policies. Before Sabrina- Olivia, Billie and Gracie all were very Vocal. I love these girls for that. Gives me a bit of hope for the future generations of this country.
