Princess Kate wore a Gucci gown & a crazy wig to the 2026 BAFTAs

Given the silence around the Prince and Princess of Wales’s BAFTA plans (or lack thereof) this year, I think many of us assumed that Kensington Palace had loosely confirmed that Prince William and Kate would attend this year. If KP had been giving royal reporters the silent treatment about the BAFTAs, we would have gotten some “how dare Will and Kate not even show their faces in the middle of a huge crisis for the monarchy” articles. My point? Will and Kate HAD to show up. Buckingham Palace probably ordered them to do it, but the press applied tons of pressure on them too.

So here we are. Kate dusted off one of the most ridiculous wigs in her Wiglet Closet and she plopped that sucker on her head and called it a day. No blending, no attempts to make it look natural, nothing. Just Party City 24-7. Kate didn’t bother buying a new dress either, which makes me wonder if she was always planning to go to the BAFTAs with William (who is BAFTA’s President). This Gucci dress is years old, and she last wore it in 2019. Old dress, budget wig, shellacked-on makeup. Woo, girl, it might be time to hire a real stylist. Prince William tried to coordinate in a burgundy velvet jacket. He loves a velvet jacket for some reason, but those pieces always make him look like a rejected Bond villain (Peggington Galore, who has an evil plan involving scooters).

Obviously, I have serious doubts about whether either of these two lazy individuals would have bothered to show up if not for certain events last week. William’s uncle Prince Andrew was arrested and held in custody for nearly twelve hours, all related to Andrew’s years-long depraved history with Jeffrey Epstein. Following Andrew’s arrest, the entire monarchy came in for some hugely critical commentary, and even William and Kate got whacked by some royalists. Given that they spent all of last week on vacation, what are the chances that the original plan was that Kate spent the whole weekend not working whatsoever? They not only made her to go the BAFTAs, they also threw a wig on her and trotted her out to a Six Nations match.

  1. Lauren says:

I like both their outfits, to be honest, and I think the matching is nice for an event like this.

But she looks so tired and that wig is not helping her.

He like he’s bored and doesn’t want to be there.

    • Tulipworthy says:

I agree that both their outfits are nice. Kate does not look well.

      • Fabiola says:

I liked her dress and hair. She plays it safe which she should being a royal. I think she looked lovely

    • Me at home says:

It seems like media isn’t photoshopping her as much as they used to. Which is a choice.

      • Jais says:

There’s a mix of photos out there. They brought along their own KP photographer to document the bts. But then there’s also just the entertainment photographers there too that don’t regularly photograph the royals.

      • TheFarmer'sWife says:

Agree about the photo shopping. Kate needs to hire a stylist/make-up person, even part-time, if for no other reason to show her how to take care of her skin and how to blend both the wiglette and her make-up. I really like her dress, though. Couldn’t get past Scooter King’s bad posture and clenched fists.

      • BeanieBean says:

Yeah, we don’t usually see all those acne scars on her forehead or all the fly-away hairs on her head. And William! Stand up straight!

      • Lorelei says:

I love her dress, but William can’t pull off velvet, IMO. Her “hair” is out of control.

The un-photoshopped pictures of Kate are so unsettling!

    • Josephine says:

I don’t mind the style of the dress (it looks so comfortable) but the colors of the dress are working against her – those are not her colors. And as usual, the road kill on her head and her inability to accessorize drag the outfit down further.

    • KC says:

I like their clothes too. I’m a big fan of celebrities rewearing clothes so everyone else gets the message that clothing isn’t disposable and it’s wasteful AF to only wear things a few times. As much as I hate admitting I have something in common with William, I do love a velvet jacket.

But yikes – that wig! I’m generally not great at wig spotting, but even I can see that this wig is a tragedy of wigs.

    • MFS says:

Agree, the outfits are pretty good. Nice and appropriate. The use of color adds a bit of interest. Unfortunately, Kate does look unwell and her makeup is horrid. And the less I say about Will, the better.

      • Blair Warner says:

I don’t mind the dress and I actually think this wig is better on her hairline than the rugby one yesterday. It’s a mess in the back though.

I want to know more about her earrings!

      • Smart&Messy says:

William looks terrible for his age and in general like an alcoholic.

    • Nadia says:

The dress is pretty but the color washes her out and makes her look
sickly. I remember the dress the first time around and I still don’t like the chest portion. Looks like she is binded in there and all smooshed in.

      • Chaine says:

I looked back at a video of her the first time around and two things struck me; #1 she was a much healthier weight so the dress fit her better and #2 she had a much shorter, smoother hairstyle then that flattered her face so much better. Those heavy long doll-curls she wears everywhere now are really aging.

    • Mustang Sally says:

The clenched fists are “hand posing” or “finger posing” – all of the royals did it/do it (even Harry used to) – William’s is just much more obvious/pronounced. From what I understand (I know someone whose spouse is a very-high-end etiquette consultant), it is not “proper” to have the hands falling limply at their sides – my friends said the hand should “give the illusion of holding a suitcase that has a handle.” She mentioned you’ll also notice many women on the red carpet do a “2 and 2” pose where they use 2 fingers on one hand to hold 2 fingers on the other hand when they hold their hands in front of their torsos.

  2. L84Tea says:

I didn’t care for this dress the first time she wore it either. There’s something about the bodice that ruins it. Even on her ultra-thin frame, it looks like it’s strangling her. It reminds me of mummy wrappings.

    • Emm1 says:

It’s because it’s made for someone with breasts.
As Kate clearly hasn’t any (see photo taken of her sideways) the dress hangs flatly at the top. It has no shape.

      • Irving says:

I think the shirring/gathering of the fabric, the two-tone crisscross of the bodice, and the waist-length hair are all designed to give the illusion of breasts, but because she exists in three dimensional space and we can see she hasn’t any, it still doesn’t work, and the dress looks off.

The flyaways and full-blast makeup and Claire’s jewelry and hideous posture are there for additional distraction. And maybe they distract from something, but all these miscues added together (and that’s even before we get to Scooter!) just bring into focus so many of the issues of the Waleses: why and for what point and who cares.

      • Jais says:

Claire’s jewelry makes me laugh bc pretty sure the earrings are from the royal vault. But yeah, they’re not my taste, or at least not how they’re styled here.

      • Irving says:

Of course it’s from the royal vault! But in the careless way she wears that jewelry, it sure does look like they got it at Claire’s.

  3. Wilma says:

    They look strangely cheap

    • Hypocrisy says:

Exactly my thoughts I’ve seen better/sharper dressed prom couples that I know didn’t spend any where near the cost of her dress alone I’m sure. It’s not a flattering dress on her at all and she is certainly looking tan so Norfolk must have been sunny 🌞. Peggy in velvet is just strange to me I personally think he looks ridiculous, but tbh I’ve only ever liked a velvet jacket on a man who has a fit athletic build others just look like they are Hugh Hefner wannabes to me.

      • Wilma says:

Yes, the colours completely wash her out (and that hair is so tacky) and his suit doesn’t really fit. It’s neither clearly oversized nor fitted. They look so out of place when you see the showbizz people. And I don’t really know whether we should want public servants (which the royals should be) to look like movie stars, but there has to be a better way than this.

      • samipup says:

Goes with his Tom Cruise airplane slippies though.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Spot on! The dress makes her look like a wild woman on the moors and the make up makes her look ashen and that wig is just crazy. And to think her fans had the audacity to abuse Meghan for Lilibet’s hair.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

The future of the British monarchy. The Velveteen Egg and the Wiglet Gopher theme dressing,

      Yikes.

  4. Yikes, on every level. That’s all I’ll say.

  5. Yikes that second picture of Can’t is scary! Maniacal smile firmly planted on her face her hand at the ready to do some kind of jazz hand display. The wig doing its own crazy work. Both she and Peg are trying desperately to appear happy to be there and failing miserably. These two are not the two to send out to make it appear that all is okay with the firm!

    • Beverley says:

That smile seems forced. It doesn’t meet her eyes.
      She looks crazed.

    • Deborah1 says:

The first photos of them arriving at the BAFTA ceremony showed them both looking stony-faced. It’s only when Kate saw the cameras were on her that she started grinning. William’s expression didn’t change. He looked as miserable as sin.

      • Nadia says:

People always say she doesn’t pose or seek out cameras. Oh she absolutely does. Will won’t be look but she is posed perfectly looking towards the cameras.

  6. Eleonor says:

The dress is meh, but the entire thing would look 20 times better with the hair up.
    And a necklace.

    • Danielle says:

It would be SO much better if her hair was up. The off the shoulder style could have read as sexy, if you could see it under all of that hair.

    • Dee says:

Just noticed that she’s wearing some big dangling earrings under all that wig. I looked at so many pictures before I even saw them. Hair needed to be back and styled to show them.

      • Nic919 says:

She’s done that so many times. Why wear dangling earrings when you have your hair down and loose hiding them?
        It’s a mess.

    • ncboudicca says:

If she wore her hair up with that dress, then we’d all notice her clavicles and the discussion would be on how damn thin she is, rather than on that whack wig.

      • Lorelei says:

Good point. But tbh her weight is so jarring that we’d notice them anyway at this point, and the wig (extensions, whatever) is beyond hideous.

  7. Jais says:

The dress is fine. They made some effort with the color coordination which also matched the carpet and bafta backdrop. Sure. My main confusion is why the hair/pieces look so frizzy. I’m genuinely baffled by that.

    • First comment says:

I agree. The dress is pretty, a repeat, so as not to attract attention to their vast wealth and ways of acquiring it. But she looks tired, haggard and deeply unhappy despite the fact that she just came back from holidays. I’m deeply concerned about her and about the message she conveys to the world.

      • jais says:

The dress is fine, pretty whatever. Am I concerned? Sure but what will any of that concern do? It’s up to the people around her to help. And unfortunately the monarchy and the RF are not at all concerned with doing so. And the BM doesn’t care. And it’s harder for individuals who have beholden themselves to those systems.

    • Lady D says:

She needs someone with a spray bottle to follow her, misting her hair.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

She needs some wig detangler spray. And she needs to remember to comb it from the ends to the roots, not the other way around!

Updos are possible with a wig and it definitely should have been attempted.

    • AOC says:

Looks like the dogs were playing with that wig before it was plonked on her head. The dress is a mess too. I’ll bet whoever made it groaned audibly when they saw her appear.

  8. Who were these people says:

Before any kind of stylist, she needs a mirror, a therapist, a dietitian, and a manicure. A few genuine friends would probably be helpful, too.

    • Chrissy says:

This! I’d also add: hire an actual makeup artist! She always overdoes the makeup! Also, who does she think she’s fooling with that ridiculous wig? We just saw the tiny braid the other day! Amateur hour yet again.

      • therese says:

Yes, and speaking of hands, she needs to let go of William. Just let go, and you’ll be ok. Just let go, and eventually your body, mind, and everything else will right itself. Please let go.

  9. Me at home says:

I actually like the dress. But her arms in the first picture. My completely unprovable theory is that her last stylist/aide, Natasha Archer, tried to intervene about her weight and got the boot. And Kate doesn’t want to hire another stylist because questions about her size are inevitable.

  10. LADY DIGBY says:

King’s minions have communicated to Wilbur’s team that it is now all hands on desk to prove that “working royals are indeed working.” Ironically Kate worked on two days over the weekend and she is recovering from chemo so once again healthy Wilbur is outperformed by someone who isn’t as well as himself. Wilbur needs to knuckle down and start working 5 days a week to prove that he takes the role of heir seriously. All senior working royals need to provide an immediate contrast to Andrew by aiming for 500 engagements a year : Wilbur should never again be outperformed by pensioners aged between 75-90.

  11. Mrs. Smith says:

I glanced at a couple of photos of W&K last night and gasped at the magnitude of K’s stray hairs highlighted by the red carpet lighting. My first thought was the stylist didn’t use any moisturizing product at all?? Then I realized it was a wig, so it’s quite something it had that much static and dryness. It seems no one but the gopher is managing the wig closet and he’s doing the best he can!

    • Interested Gawker says:

Wiglet Gopher would never have let her out like that.

One has to wonder if Kate is being denied wardrobe and grooming staff because William is paranoid about leaks and their staff running to the BM. Considering how he grew up that’s not an idle concern but if they are going to represent Crown & Country she needs stylist and wardrobe assistance. This is a job. Her ‘hair’ should not be unkempt at all, let alone to this degree.

    • Jais says:

That’s what gets me. Even if it’s a hair piece, isn’t there maintenance? Moisturizer? Product to have it looking smoother and less fried?

      • Lorelei says:

Truly, to be a fly on the wall and be able to see her daily “hair” routine. How on earth does she think this looks good? HOW?

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Wig detangler and leave in conditioner. They have formulas for both human hair and synthetic wigs.

As much money as that family has stolen from its hard working subjects, there’s no excuse for not buying basic styling products to manage a hair system.

  12. Eurydice says:

How is her head the size of her entire torso? It almost looks photoshopped. If there’s such a thing as anti-glamour, these two are it.

    • Cee says:

Because she clearly has an ED and she is disappearing before our eyes.

    • First comment says:

There’s a picture of her sitting next to William yesterday and she looked just like a little girl. Her size is beyond alarming and her head +wig seem disproportionately bigger. At this point, she wears the terrible wig to deflect from her scary thin body. They need to embrace the truth and talk about it to the world and not hiding it with ridiculous praise of her beauty. I’m sure people would be far more sympathetic.

      • Eurydice says:

But the thing is that the wig/hair doesn’t deflect from her body. It just looks weird, like her head was photoshopped onto someone else’s body. Everyone can see how thin she is, but maybe if she tamed her hair at least she wouldn’t look weird.

      • First comment says:

I agree but if you look at the comments, most of them are about her hair and not her size. So, mission accomplished, I think.

      • Nic919 says:

That photo shows a ton of space left in the seat and William is turned away looking at a brochure. Of course the body language experts will stay silent on that photo.

  13. Jenny says:

I only recently figured out that Kate thinks she’s got Amal Clooney’s hair.

  14. Jazz Hands says:

My say-something-nice is her wayward eyebrow has been tamed.

  15. Tuesday says:

I actually love William’s jacket. I wish the sleeves were a little longer, but this fit is trendy. And oh that busted ass wig. Girl. 🤦🏾‍♀️

  16. msmontclair says:

I know I’m screaming into the void with this, but: blend your eyeshadow, Kate!!

    • Cee says:

If her eyeshadow offended you, zoom into her cheeks to see how unblended her blush is. Looks like a bruise.

      • HuffnPuff says:

The problem with her makeup is that it’s always the same no matter what time of day it is. She doesn’t have a day look and a night look. It’s just always smokey eyes in brown shades.

      • Lorelei says:

Her blush is NEVER blended. It always looks like she put it on with a shovel.

  17. Livvy says:

Please someone share with me how you can see this one’s a wig. I could see it when she was weirdly blond one day – that wig stood on its own feet on top of her head, but I need you to point this one out to me. Thanks!

    • HeatherC says:

Sometimes her more casual outings or vacations show a nice normal thin braid. Then there’s outings like these where the hair is much more full and would have made a much bigger braid. So either she’s capping her head and attaching a thin braid or she’s using extensions, wiglets and wigs to make up for her normal hair.

      • Livvy says:

Good point. I looked up one of her ski holidays and you’re right, it was very sparse with a short, skimpy braid. They really buried those photos.

    • Becks1 says:

Look at her hairline around her forehead. In the second and third photos in this post, its very smooth an even, in a way that natural hair that’s growing out of your head is not. This could be just a lot of extensions, but I think its a full wig.

and as we’ve said on here before – its fine that she wears a wig or extensions. But she should wear good ones, and people should stop praising her for her hair. It’s the only thing she has going for her and its not even hers.

      • Livvy says:

Good observation about the overly smooth/flat hairline. I thought her scalp or part looked natural, but you’re right, it could be a full-on wig with a very good cap. I did wonder about extensions, but if those were extensions, that would be A LOT. Agreed, it’s the exaggerated praise and the instant angry defense of anything this woman does or doesn’t do that emphasizes even more how much fakery is involved in this character. A wig is actually the perfect symbol for what she represents…

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

        1. She needs to buy pre plucked hairline wigs or watch a YouTube tutorial and diy it.

        2. She needs to mind how she’s putting up her bio hair under the wig because she has a tendency to pin it too high, which gives that weird bump on her crown. Adjusting the back straps would help deal with the unnatural wig bulge too.

    • Dwi says:

There was a picture of the back of Kate and u could see it was a wig. It looked very bad from the back.

  18. Marine says:

Her picture from the back shows how frail and shapeless she looks. The first time she wore the dress was better styled. She now wears huge chandelier earrings we can’t even see through all the hair!

  19. Kittenmom says:

You didn’t include the photo of them seated inside the venue where the relationship is —SPACE— LOL

Maybe it’ deserves to get a post of its own? with commentary from the body language experts.

    • 2131Jan says:

He was practically cuddling with the woman next to him! lol. Yet there was a foot of space btwn Kitty and him.

      • Nic919 says:

There is another photo of William turned toward the woman next to him and he is expressing more eye contact and interest than he ever does with her. Meanwhile Kate is just looking forward and not really there.

    • jais says:

I’m continuously baffled at how they can’t put on more of a show in public. Like come on. Ya’ll are already lazy and boring. At least put some effort in when you’re out, which yes means leaving less space between yourselves when sitting in a freaking auditorium.

      • Lorelei says:

@Jais, especially since they only “work” together a matter of hours per year. It’s not like they have to put the charade on 24/7 fgs.

  20. Amy Bee says:

The bodice of her dress is sagging on her and her wig needed some product. My memories of her wearing this dress in 2019 are the derangers declaring that Kate was a real princess and a few people criticising her for wearing Gucci.

  21. StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

It’s a nice dress without wow effect. They don’t want to be showy, coming in there with new fancy clothes paid by the people. I forgot again to look at lazy scoot willie, I had to go back up and check him out.

They all got to be working these days to show that they “crack on” even during the worst drama. Thats the strategy . Secret weapon sophie and edward coming this week 💯 once back from vacay also.

  22. Tessa says:

It does not fit her well around the bustline and it’s rather drab. The wig is hideous and she is making odd faces. Scooter looks, glum

  23. Elizabeth K. Mahon says:

To me, it looks like William was planning on going and it was a last minute decision to add Kate. Everything about her outfit looks like she threw it on at the last second before she walked out of the house. It just looks messy.

    • HeatherC says:

Maybe Kate was there to prevent William from asking young actresses if it was great fun filming a rape scene. That’s the last thing they need right now

      • Hypocrisy says:

Omg I almost forgot he actually did do that.. 🫣

      • Jais says:

He made some comments about films already which will hopefully be covered. Not as bad as the last time but still….weird.

      • Deborah1 says:

@Jais – Yes, he said he was not in a calm enough frame of mind to watch Hamnet and he said Sinners was “too dark” (whatever that is supposed to mean when uttered by Wilbur). He did admit to watching One Battle After Another though, and presumably enjoyed it. Wilbur does not seem to be a film buff, so why the h*ll is he president of BAFTA?

      • Nic919 says:

He also liked F1 for the music.

    • Deborah1 says:

William presented the BAFTA Fellowship Award and I guess that was arranged in advance. He had to be there, but Kate? ….. which is probably why she didn’t make much of an effort with her appearance.

  24. Quick Question says:

How can you tell it’s a wig? I’m genuinely asking, I’m always the worst at spotting things like this.

    • Canter says:

Because it’s obviously not her hair and it’s 3x the size? We saw ski pics with a tiny tiny braid. It’s also2x the size of her hair at 20. The wiglets are very easy to see, this looks like a full wig.

    • Jay says:

It helps that we also just saw Kate just the other day at a rugby match with quite different hair – shorter length, straighter, and (at least to my eyes) a different hairline than she has here. So unless her hair lengthened about a foot in one day when it was curled, there were pieces involved!

    • samipup says:

You can see line of demarcation about 2/3 the way back on the top of her head, not blended. It’s fun to wiglet spot celebs!

  25. Cathy says:

Sigh, an expensive dress and it needed to have been steamed first after dragging it out of the closet. That would have improved the way the bodice sat, a proper stylist or dresser would know these things. But as Kate and William coordinated I’ll take a guess that Ma Middleton put their outfits together? Shame CarolE didn’t book a hairdresser to make the wig look better? I did shed a tear for the earrings lost in that mop though. On a more positive note I thought the velvet suit the lady escorting them on the red carpet is wearing is gorgeous.

  26. MsKrisTalk says:

There is a picture of them seated together which really exhibits their disconnect. It’s like they are at two different events but they’re together. Kate is preening for the camera while the other people, including William, are interacting normally. William kept his distance and is ignoring her.Based on all the pictures, she’s making sure to let everyone know that she was allowed to wear Big Blue.

What is obvious is that Kate is decaying away and she has nobody in her life that cares. Or maybe she doesn’t care. Her hair looks bad. Her skin looks bad. Her make-up matches her character. Both are horrible. The video of her walking….yikes! She appears to struggle to walk and she hunches over.

    • Weatherby says:

This is what stands out to me as well, MsKristalk: she is appearing lately as if she is so uncared for.

A poster on this site made a similar comment about the late Queen, photographed at short range standing alone with her coat askew, smiling, but looking a little lost. Someone said how “uncared for” she looked, and it’s really struck me.

The longer this goes on the more convinced I am that not even Ma Midds cares for her daughter’s welfare anymore. George may have replaced Kate as the apple of Carole’s ambitious eye.

What a sad, sorry state. For the whole lot of them, but especially their children. They, after all, are watching their mother waste away and their father dilettante about. What must they have seen already, and how much trauma has been inflicted?

Divorce already, if not for your own sake but for your children’s. Call Carole’s bluff to reveal terrible secrets, then leave her to p*ss off to her mansion. She will most certainly go quietly, if even half the rumours about her conduct are true.

      • Unblinkered says:

@Weatherby – if anyone has replaced KM as the apple of Ma Midds’ ambitious eye it’ll be Charlotte not George.

What rumours have you heard about Carol’s behaviour? Take it you mean in addition to her dishonourable treatment of her creditors?

  27. Becks1 says:

i think William was always scheduled to attend and Kate was a relatively last minute add (like maybe Friday or something she was ordered to go) – not as a distraction but to show that the royals are actually “working.” Everything about her outfit screams last minute – old dress, the typical jewelry she wears for big events, and that hair. OMG that hair. that may be the worst we’ve seen it look, its so bad it has to be intentional on her part, right? no way did she look at that in the mirror and think “perfect!!!”

    • Nic919 says:

I think the order went out on the day Andrew got arrested.

    • Jay says:

I agree, Andrew’s arrest really forced the palace’s hand to try to change the narrative in the press and for goodness sake trying to get people to stop writing about Andrew. Charles attending a fashion show just won’t cut it. William in a suit leering at young actresses would be a disaster. Nope, their only hope of changing the conversation is dragging out Keen with a big grin, a big gown and big ol’ hair on the red carpet.

That means they made the poor lamb work two days in a row! Horrors!

  28. wolfmamma says:

That these two are the future King and Queen says everything doesn’t it? So very very sad but fitting ..

  29. Millie328 says:

Perhaps in their world it’s different, but I think going to the BAFTAs looks fun. What else would they be doing that night?

  30. Jillian says:

I like their outfits, much better than the badly fitting and anachronistic nonsense they usually trot out

  31. Ginger says:

Kate’s hair really ages her, she needs to cut and style it for her age. Her whole look is just dated.
They both look like they just woke up.

  32. M says:

She treats that wig like it’s a shake and go, but it needs to be brushed, styled, and conditioned before wearing. The dress looks cheap, like it’s from the Macys discount rack. The makeup is its usual terrible self. Her posture makes my neck hurt.

    • Day Drinker says:

Hey M, I’m late to comment, it’s my birthday and blizzarded in so I had an early brunch with leftover eggs benedict and the bottle of champagne my dear friend Laura gave me as a bday gift, both delicious. I got a $200 gift card to Macy’s for Christmas, only shop there to use up card. I got 2 beautiful sweaters from the discount rack, I wouldn’t have paid that much if it were my money, but nice things are available there so I feel no shame. But last time I checked, I’m not the future queen of England. She may have all the money (ill begotten as it is) in the world, but she could have gotten something much better at Macy’s discount rack. Oh my, it’s snowing again, I thought is was over after getting 18 inches. To all of you commenters in the Tri State area please stay in and stay safe, day drinking helps as long as you aren’t responsible for other living beings. I live alone with no pets so cheers to those who are as blessed as I am.

  33. Crowned Huntress says:

If the camera adds ten pounds, Kate is dangerously thin. At this point I feel like the RF is hoping she’ll keel over so that they’ll have a media distraction & public sympathy back on their side.

  34. Sue says:

That wig dwarfs her. William just always has like…a gray pallor to him. I know there’s not a lot of sun in England but…yikes.

  35. YankeeDoodles says:

Giving up on any form of self-care is actually a red flying flag signalling depression, which is the flip side of anxiety. Kate comes across as someone who is deeply insecure so overcompensating by being controlling, claustrophobically so, to the point of paranoia. The problem is, that state of mind is not only like being on a hamster wheel, it puts you out of sync with everyone around you, and it actually saps your resilience, on an existential level. And then when you really need to make an effort, take a deep breath, or try hard, you just… can’t. You just collapse. Kate reminds me of something Gore Vidal wrote, about the Republican Party: “things that are brittle always shatter under stress.”

  36. Mads says:

Going to admit that I went to the Getty site and looked at all images and videos of their arrival and walking into the venue and what really struck me was the total disconnect between them. I know that it’s an arrangement at present, yet when you consider the circumstances surrounding the Andrew scandal and Charles slowly becoming embroiled in having first hand knowledge of Andrew’s abhorrent conduct, that’s not enough for this pair to come together in a supportive way when on an incredibly high profile engagement. I didn’t see one shared glance between them, as in “are you okay?” as a basic concern and they couldn’t even conjure up their usual fake performance. It was decidedly odd.

    • Nic919 says:

Being aligned in their hatred of Harry and Meghan was their last shared goal and now that it is moot there is nothing else but to tolerate each other and William barely does that.

    • jais says:

It’s odd. And it’s been odd. Especially the longer videos. I’ll never forget Kate’s first event back for Trooping when she wore the Eliza Dolittle costume. The media got a festive glance photo on the balcony but the longer video showed the real story. Barely a word or a glance. I wrote this above but I’m forever baffled by the inability to at least pretend for the public. It has to be bad bad that they can’t even do that. Or at least that’s my inexpert photo assumption, which could be completely off-base, so who knows.

  37. Ocho says:

Man, if I were BAFTA President, I would be psyched to promote their work. I would watch as many nominated films as possible — being especially informed about any UK nominees — then yammer excitedly and informatively about the films and makers any chance I got. It takes years and hutzpah to make a movie from inception to release. And as a British royal it is an opportunity to amp up a British industry.

  38. Fwiw says:

The first thing I thought of with Kate’s dress was Hermione’s from the ball in Harry Potter (my kids went through a huge phase).

Anyone read how Prince William couldn’t watch Hamnet because he wasn’t in a calm mood or some horse sh*t like that? Imagine telling your boss you couldn’t work because you’re stressed / especially if said work was…watch a movie. Smdh

  39. Suze says:

I think the short fuzzy stray hairs you can see when lit from behind this is her natural hair. They don’t make wigs like that, do they?

    • Unblinkered says:

It’ll be strands of her natural hair where you see short fuzzy stray hairs, especially on top, but bulking it all out underneath will be multiple extensions.
It looks God awful because too many have been used.

  40. QuiteContrary says:

Kate could be doing something really useful for British fashion by wearing the designs of promising young designers — including designers of color (as Michelle Obama did). But she’s utterly clueless and lazy.

  41. heygingersnaps says:

khate does not look well at all even with the photoshop. The maniacal grin is just disconcerting but the sycophants are spinning it into the usual tripe. bulliam is such a lightweight at these events as is khate. They deserve each other.

  42. Jane says:

Mauve is my least favorite color. The wig though… She does that thing where you put all the hair over your shoulders and have no hair down the back. I don’t know why anyone does that.

  43. Grant says:

I think she looks nice, CMA wig and all. She just looks tired. He looks fine and I like the scruff.

    That’s all I got.

    • BLACK ELDERBERRY says:

Put on your glasses! Regardless of your taste, this matted wig CANNOT be considered cute. It looks like a dusty doll in a forgotten toy store window. In this set, the dress only enhances the discount Barbie look.

  44. Jay says:

I quite like the darker mauve colour on her, but the style and fabric of the dress look…kind of cheap and dated to me. Like, I remember iterations of the “bandage” dress circa 2005 that were sort of like this.

Personally I don’t think the silhouette of this dress is flattering to her. It really emphasizes her neck/clavicle/visible ribcage in a way that no amount of wavy hair can cover. The whole thing looks very “little girl playing princess”, down to the heavy slashes of makeup.

  45. Monlette says:

Don’t like it. It might have been striking on her in her youth, but the color, wild styling, and amount of skin and bone it shows is giving me movie monster vibe. The band around the chest is just odd to me.

  46. Royal Downfall Watcher says:

I actually cringed in my seat when I saw her ribcage. *ouch*. I know some people who are naturally thin and there is no shade to that….but this looks painful. I don’t think this woman is doing well…

  47. HuffnPuff says:

Question for cancer survivors: wouldn’t she have a port scar if she had chemo? She wore a dress in November that showed her upper chest and there doesn’t appear to be a scar in those photos either.

    • HeatherC says:

If it was short term chemo, she may have just had a PICC line in her arm. Or the chemo was oral. Or, as many believe, no chemo.

      • BeanieBean says:

She claimed to go to have gone to the Royal Marsden for her cancer treatments–all alone! so alone!–so it wouldn’t have been oral, or at least not exclusively oral. Also, she made some dumb remark about being ‘fond’ of her port or some such dumbs*t thing. So…no scar?

    • BLACK ELDERBERRY says:

She has a scar, but it’s on her left eye socket, where someone/something hit her in the head. This cancer is the most disgusting fraud, and I hope they finally pay for it.

    • Barbara says:

I had chemo via a PICC line in my inner arm, only a tiny scar, can hardly see it

    • Cheryl says:

I have a port. Right side chest. I’ve had it for almost 5 years. You would definitely notice it if I had a dress like this on as I lost over 100 pounds. Some people have it in their arm. Kate could have done oral chemo. She would look so good with a blunt shoulder length haircut.

    • M says:

I got my port in my chest last July, and the scar is still pretty obvious over 7 months later. Kate claimed she had a port in her arm during that weird visit to “thank” the hospital that treated her. Ports must be inserted under the skin via surgery, so yes she would have a scar. I don’t know where she was or what she was doing, but she was not receiving chemo.

  48. janetjones says:

Ew. Grossest article ever. Go get someone to hug you. If someone is wearing a wig, who has access to boatloads of money, presumably there’s something wrong with them. They’re not just doing it because real hair is lame. Gross, gross, gross.

    • HeatherC says:

If someone has a boatload or more of money, they can afford good quality wigs and are able to take good care of the wigs/wiglets/extensions (or hire someone to do so). Her hair pieces are awful and that’s no one’s fault but hers. Especially since all she has to offer is a distraction based on her looks and presentation.

  49. Anne Maria says:

Frankly I didn’t like either of their looks at all. But maybe they had their minds on other things.

  50. tamsin says:

The wig makes me think of it as a coat for the head. I must certainly keep her neck and shoulders warm.

  51. slippers4life says:

There are so many amazing wigs out there. Surely they could get her a good wig. This looks like something my daughter would grab at Claire’s when the cashier tells her it’s buy 2 get 1 free and then she wears it to play dress up in the basement. Like, no shade for wearing a hair piece, but why do they troll her with this cheap crap?

  52. Linney says:

It blows my mind that Kate doesn’t see how ridiculous she appears in that wig. It looks like part of a witch’s costume for Halloween. Just shocking. She looks deranged. And yet, the same people fawning over her complain about Lilibet’s hair not being combed. Go figure.

  53. AC says:

These 2 were hardly in my TL this past weekend as mostly it was all Alysa, or the US men’s hockey team. I can now see why. W+K don’t have the IT factor they used to. It’s like whatever chemistry they had is gone. Not interesting anymore. The ones who were trending on SM during the Bafta red carpet were Gracie Abrams/Paul Mescal making their couple debut(they both looked great) and Sadie Sink who looked classic and stunning. Even the photographers wanted more of them it seems. They were all over SM.

  54. ShoppeGirlMN says:

K-I want in on the fun. What are the signs tht this is a wig? I want to see if I can spot the next one…
