Elizabeth Hurley rewore her Versace gown from 1999 – not that one

Elizabeth Hurley is pretty active on Instagram, and usually, it’s to make a post that shows off how absolutely incredible she looks at 60. Every so often, she’ll take us down memory lane to either recreate old shots from her younger days or throw on an old designer dress to do a comparison shot from decades ago.

Last week, Liz was in India with her son Damian Hurley to celebrate Holi on March 4 and for a belated 60th birthday celebration for her ex-husband Arun Nayar. Over the weekend, Liz pulled another oldie but goodie out of the cloest: a 1999 Versace gown. No, it was not “That Dress” – the infamous safety pin one. It was a gorgeous black halter dress with the giant bejeweled pink centerpiece that she wore to the 1999 Met Gala.

Elizabeth Hurley went back into the archives and pulled out one of her most iconic pieces — a Versace dress she wore while attending the 1999 Met Gala in New York City.

The glamorous black gown, which featured a plunging neckline, a bejeweled centerpiece, and a dramatic thigh-high slit that exposed her leg (sorry, Angelia Jolie, but Hurley was the first to do it), made waves on the red carpet at the time. So it was only fitting for Hurley to bring back the unforgettable look.

Taking to Instagram, Hurley shared a side-by-side photo of herself wearing the Versace number in 1999 and again this year, proving that the gown still fits like a glove.

The actress captioned her post, “Viva Versace! For this weekend’s adventure in India, I dug into my archives and unearthed one of my favourite pieces, which I last wore to the Met Gala in 1999. 😳 27 years may have passed, but some loves never fade 💋 #Versace #shoppingfrommycloset @versace @donatella_versace.”

Fans quickly flooded the comment section, marveling at how incredible Hurley looks in the dress nearly 30 years later.

“You look more beautiful than ever now and wore it better NOW!!” A fan wrote. “GORGEOUS!!!!!! And timeless! 🔥,” another comment read. “Always a Goddess 🙌🏼❤️,” another read.

My goodness, she looks even better in it now than she did at the Met Gala 27 years ago! I don’t know if it’s because she’s happier, more confident, or just has access to better lighting, but I also thought the exact same thing when she brought back her spectacular 1999 Versace dress for the CFDA awards in 2020. My only complaint with the dress time around is that the necklace and earrings she wore didn’t look right together. They clashed with each other and with the big centerpiece.

Elizabeth’s picture got me thinking about other times female celebrities have pulled a famous old look out of the closet, like when Jennifer Lopez wore a reworked version of her own infamous Versace dress. I did some research, and She Knows has a good article on this topic. I love seeing the comparisons, particularly involving how hair, makeup, and accessories have changed over the years. If we’re going to be rebooting everything else, then why not also start rebooting old looks? I’m not advocating to not have any more new fashion, but just to start some sort of “Out of the closet” challenge. I’ll even take celebrity kids wearing their mom’s clothing. Gimme Angelina in the black slit dress again. Hit me with more of Halle Berry’s iconic Elie Saab Oscars dress. Let’s see Bjork pull the swan costume out of retirement. Alter ’em if you need to! This would just be a fun way to recycle classic looks.

Of course, she is a beautiful woman. But yea, filters and good plastic surgery will do that for you.

She looks great. White people wearing bindis is A Choice. And so much bad plastic surgery in those photos.

I feel so naive, I thought she had exceptional breasts as a complete genetic fluke but they look larger and fuller now, yet she’s not really gained weight.
