I assume this was the compromise worked out between Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace. KP probably wanted to do something more thunder-stealing for the Prince and Princess of Wales’s 15th wedding anniversary, but BP was like “are you insane, the focus should be on Charles and Camilla’s US state visit.” So this was the agreed-upon minor thunder-stealing: a photo of the Wales family, posted on their social media. Quick question: there are two dogs in this photo, correct? The BBC said it was “a dog,” singular. But I see two dogs, unless that’s an optical illusion.
According to the BBC, the photo was taken by photographer Matt Porteous, and this is yet another photo from the family’s Easter holiday in Cornwall. Prince Louis’s 8th birthday portrait was from the same photoshoot. I imagine Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s upcoming birthday portraits will also come from the same photoshoot, so will the annual Father’s Day photo.
Anyway, I find it interesting that they didn’t post a photo of William and Kate alone, which they’ve done on previous anniversaries (see the other photos in this post). While I’m not criticizing them for making their anniversary all about their family, it does seem to lack a romantic spark, I guess. George was even placed in between his parents.

The photo really feels so forced and unnatural — from William and George’s awkward poses to the really harsh lighting and shadows that make it hard to even see if there’s another dog in the photo! Surprised that this was the best that a professional photographer could come up with. I’m just left with a feeling that the whole family is pretending and “performing togetherness” that doesn’t actually exist in reality. Such a contrast with the authenticity that exudes from every Sussex photo.
I agree with everything. This photo is so weird. They have all awkward poses, not just William and George. Kate has a hand between George’s legs while holding Louis’s hand . It doesn’t feel that it’s a moment that’s been captured. Just weird.
Perhaps she thought it was William’s leg? As in, she had been reaching/groping for William’s leg, but he had switched with George, so the photo got snapped immediately after the switch and this was the best the photographer got?
But yes, for a couple who “does not need to do it for the cameras” they sure do a lot of posing to give a certain impression. The whole thing is just weird vibes and lacking in authenticity.
That photo is unsettling – families do not find themselves in those positions naturally, hence forced, awkward and slightly creepy. I do not understand why they used a picture with everyone laying down.
They could have had an action photograph, with all of them on a roller coaster.

The first thing that stood out to me was the terrible lighting/exposure. William and George’s faces are in the shadow and the other faces are too dark. The result is the focal point of the photo is all the legs! Exactly what you don’t want in a family portrait. The photo should have been binned.
To some extent most family portraits feel kind of artificial – you are posing, and it’s rarely spontaneous. If you are a professional model or actor, like Meghan, or just loads of charisma and empathy, like Harry (or a family like the Obamas) it doesn’t feel forced. The royals have always had traditional posed portraits and they’re…fine. Boring, but acceptable.
The problem for the Wales is that they really, really want to produce a spectacular photo to rival the Sussexes, but they just can’t do it. The desperation is palpable – maybe if they all wore denim? Would that make them fun? What about a jumping action shot then? Maybe try shooting in black and white? Still no? Well, then we’ll all lie down in a line on the ground, nobody will expect that!
Didn’t they do a jumping action shot last year, jumping over a Sanddune or something? It was a very strange.
Perhaps the Wales didn’t release an anniversary edition photo of the two of them because Kate couldn’t find her anniversary wiglet.

I think we can assume, having seen Louis’ birthday portrait, that this was a whole photoshoot with several poses. Was this really the very best one of them all? Why not take at least one that’s just William and Kate? I think it speaks volumes that they could not or would not do that, even knowing that they would need to post something on their wedding anniversary.
Better to post a throwback photo from their university days or a “candid” shot of them taken at home by “one of the kids”. A vacation shot would be better than this. Well, I’m not sure about this photo….it probably has some details photoshopped by a professional photographer and I can understand it because it’s difficult to have a “perfect ” photo of everyone. The photos which look completely photoshopped (and I mean, a person, usually William, is added) are the ones with the bike and the one in front of their house on Norfolk (?). KP was pretty used to making this kind of additions but nobody from the press called their bluff…how really bad was (and still is) that they couldn’t take one photo together?
What is with the continual insistence on these photos that look like they belong in the windows of a mall clothing store? This feels of a piece with that denim ad reel they released that one time. The only thing not making it wholly feel like a stock photo is George looking annoyed.
For one thing, I bet George is bothered by Kate’s arm casually slung over his leg. His hand under her arm is balled up. His body language is the most tense of all of them.
I said this in the other article, but this is a weird photo to me for a wedding anniversary. Just because you have kids you don’t solely become mom and dad. For their wedding anniversary it would have been perfectly fine to just take a photo of just them at the same photo shoot together. Or even a photo that’s just a regular candid of them from hanging out with friends, or at home. They don’t have any photos, that show them together and in love as they supposedly are that they could have released? The fact that they couldn’t even manage that, would leave me to believe that it’s very difficult at this point to get them to even fake affection for each other.
Which goes into the other point that I always make, how do they expect to keep this fiction help for decades? And expect their kids to take part in this fiction, and everyone else around them?

I think @Plums is onto something genuinely revelatory, which is, at a certain age, which George is fast approaching, kids can tell when you’re faking it. My son is two years older than George and he can suss out when someone is off their normal vibe. Like, when I’m washing dishes but preoccupied, or annoyed at his dad, he’ll ask me, in a very disarming, compassionate way, “Mummy, you okay?” Not in alarm, just…. He can tell when you’re off your game. George *has* to know something isn’t right. He’ll be better off at boarding school. I was, too.

Obviously you can get along for the sake of your kids, and divorced parents can co-parent and travel together as well, but they don’t seem to be at that spot. I think it’s more likely that William either joins them for the day of the photoshoot, so it looks as though he is vacationing WITH Kate and the children, or he is in the same location (e.g. the ski trip), but spending his time with friends and occasionally with the children. I mean… this is the man who invited his friends on his *honeymoon*!
@Dee(2) maybe both are tensed up together at work events because of all the scrutiny, including lip reading!! Perhaps on holiday they are relaxed and friendly because it is private without any pressure to perform. Surely Will and Kate want to protect their children as much as possible by keeping things as amicable as possible for them. It’s safe to say they’re on permanent vacation, but not together. Just look at how deeply tanned William is sometimes, while the kids and Kate are much less so. I agree with everyone else about the Cornwall mini -trip..they all met there to take pictures for the different occasions. It wasn’t a holiday. On the contrary, it was a work day for everyone, including the children. The fact that they can’t interact normally shows that they don’t spend any real time together despite their claims.
My guess is when they go on vacations together they are very separate but together – maybe two villas on Mustique, a ski chalet with multiple bedrooms or wings, etc.
i think its easier to imagine if you figure that staff are doing the day to day parenting of the kids. So kate isnt getting the kids ready for the beach or to go skiing – Nanny Maria or someone else is, and then Kate probably joins them for a while, then she probably leaves and William joins them.
Or they can hang out with their kids on vacation as long as they dont interact and dont have cameras on them.

I don’t think William is born gay, genetically/hormonally determined, but he’s definitely a sexually aroused consumer of sexual diversity and specific preferences, like a penchant for pegging. To answer your question Lady Digby, it is possible when he has the media in his pocket and embargoes that make it possible for him to threaten lawsuits whenever they write anything that might make him look bad. Some countries even threatening to reveal the truth because they aren’t part of the embargo. We’ve seen photos of him with other women and the media acting as if there wasn’t anything suspicious or questionable about it. Him going on vacations with his male friends where he’s seen dancing inappropriately with other women. There was the one photo of him in the back of his car with an attractive blonde after a night of partying without his wife and the media said nothing about it and it just disappeared from social media. Any other man being seen driven in their car with an attractive unknown woman and that story would be everywhere and mentioned every time there was questions about their marriage. We’ve seen them arriving separately to the same events and no questions asked even though they’ve implied they arrived together in the papers. We’ve seen the coparenting exchange where one of them brings a child with an overnight bag to be dropped off with the other parent. William let it slip that Charlotte didn’t like his beard when she first saw it even though they had just returned from a family summer vacation together. Something that would be impossible for her to have seen progressing if they were in fact staying in the same place. They told on themselves when they admitted to not sleeping in the same bed even though they lived in a four bedroom home at the time and it would mean they were short a fifth bedroom to accommodate a family of five. They moved from that home and took land from families and children to give them more privacy than is necessary unless they need to keep up the happy family home appearance. The media has all of the signs and proof that they live separate lives but they refuse to write about it because they are too fixated on the Sussexes.
It is one dog. Pawing at William. Wonder where the second dog is, too much work already? Did they give it to James? Or didn’t he want to join the “cute family moment” and wandered off?
Why can’t this family take normal pictures? Anniversary? A picture of the “happy” couple would be fine. God, how the press and trash TV sugarcoated their marriage and couldn’t tell us often enough how happy they are, going on couples nights regularly (the patrons and other guest are too polite to take pictures). How Pippa and the Middletons are still such a huge help for Kate…. sickening.

I don’t believe these are resent photos, these looks like the one they made when they shoot the fathers day video that was like 2 years ago. We all know they love photoshop so making look the kids older is no big deal. The same dressup same place just like the 2 years ago posted photos they did not even try to take new one
I remember when Harry and Meghan did a Christmas photo barefooted, some English outlet got a quotation from a podiatrist saying that Harry’s feet were deformed. Also, don’t they have enough money for shoes? and California casual is unfit for the family. Of course, when Kate and William copy Meghan and Harry once again, casual and bare feet are not a problem. In fact, it’s great that they’re so relaxed together and are such a happy family. I would bet that William got lessons from somebody how to look at and interact with his wife so you couldn’t see the contempt, ridicule, arrogance and hatred. Willy boy finally learned something, I guess.
It’s an odd family photo, William and George are in an awkward position, seems like if they were in an intense abs class performed at the beach and they are struggling with the sun while the rest of the family seems to be resting after a large meal during a picnic.
This is weirdly reminiscent of Annie Leibovitz’s cover of Fleetwood Mac; shot as a bird’s eye view over the subjects as they lay on a bed, in the 70s. The same tension is there, a hint of the secrets WanK keep cramming further and further down into their increasingly overstuffed Pandora’s Box is hovering over them and overtakes the group shot as a ‘just a nice family photo’.
That William’s own hand at his lap is a near mimic of Kate’s draped over George’s groin is something the photographer should have corrected.
So if this is genuinely recently in Cornwall, we only got reasonably decent weather a week ago and the ground is still quite damp. It must have been chilly and dirty lying in that grass. I really don’t understand why they would go for this as a location or position, it’s very early spring.

This is such a strange choice for a photo – why are they all lying down in a ditch? At least they look gleeful about it, I guess. And with her recent affinity for “nay- cha” I would have thought that Kate might know better than to wear an all-white outfit to wallow in what would have been cold mud.
