Something gets lost in the shuffle of royal gossip, palace briefings and the heir’s daily tantrums: King Charles has been quietly making some interesting moves to reconcile with Prince Harry. Soon after Harry lost his security case one year ago, Harry went on camera and gave a ballsy, emotional interview to the BBC, where he called out the British establishment and said outright that the Windsors will have blood on their hands if anything happens to him or his family. The palace reeled, and their tone has shifted significantly ever since. Last summer, Charles sent his director of communications, Tobyn Andreae, to meet with two of Harry and Meghan’s reps, Meredith Maines and Liam Maguire, in London. Soon after, Harry and Charles met in person for the first time in more than a year. I believe that, since last September’s meeting, Harry and Charles have been in communication with much more frequency. Charles still has anti-Sussex people around him, like his private secretary Clive Alderton, but he’s also appointing people with different perspectives, like his newish deputy private secretary Theo Rycroft. Well, the Mail has a curious exclusive about Rycroft’s plans.
One of the King’s newest and most trusted aides has vowed to repair the rift between Princes William and Harry to spare the monarch from further ‘great pain’. Former diplomat Theo Rycroft, who became deputy private secretary to the King in February, is understood to have made it his ‘number one mission’ and career ambition to reunite the pair, who have not spoken since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.
Sources say Mr Rycroft, married to Flora Astor, half-sister of Samantha Cameron, believes the situation has become ‘f****** ridiculous’ and is keen to resolve it ‘urgently’ for the King’s sake. One source said: ‘He thinks it’s time to knock their heads together. The mood is, “He’s not wrong”.
‘Theo’s a very reasonable guy and incredibly nice, and he completely gets that this is a source of great pain to the King and wants to help him resolve it. He sees his job as helping the King resolve it.’
His determination comes amid speculation the King may meet Harry when he flies to Britain from his California home in July to help prepare for the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year. But whether Mr Rycroft can persuade William to meet his brother too may be a tall order.
William has allegedly barred any mention of Harry in his presence following damaging revelations in his memoir Spare and the Sussexes’ departure from Royal life, in which they gave an Oprah Winfrey interview accusing an unnamed royal of racism.
Friends of Mr Rycroft say he has quickly gained influence within the King’s inner circle, not simply because of his establishment connections but because of his reputation as a calm and politically astute operator capable of navigating difficult personalities and delicate situations – skills he could put to great use in trying to reunite the warring brothers.
His credentials are strong. An Oxford-educated lawyer and career diplomat, Mr Rycroft joined the Foreign Office in 2005 and has held a string of senior international roles. They include legal adviser to the Prime Minister, head of international law at the Attorney General’s Office and later deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Paris.
Crucially, he is close to William. During his Paris posting he worked closely with William on several high-profile international engagements, including the Prince of Wales’s hugely scrutinised trip for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, an event that also saw William meet Donald Trump. Palace insiders say Mr Rycroft impressed Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace with his handling of the visit – and the King and Queen’s US trip last month – and marvelled at his ability to help bridge diplomatic sensitivities between Mr Trump and the climate-campaigning King.
One insider said: ‘Theo believes that Harry and William need to be forced to shake hands and allow Charles to repair his relationship with Harry.’
The source adds: ‘I would be very surprised if Harry doesn’t see Charles when he is in the UK. Theo would not be one of the many aides at the palace wishing to block a meeting. But while he may be outnumbered, after the US visit he is the most respected man in the building right now.’
It is unclear whether Harry will bring Meghan and their children Archie, seven, and four-year-old Lilibet to Britain with him in July. Doing so would rely on the Home Office granting his family police protection, which remains under review.
Is this actually quite tedious? Yes. It takes six-plus years and an army of sycophantic bureaucrats and diplomats to “figure out” a situation which should have and could have been solved quite easily within the family, if the family wasn’t full of racists, degenerates and morons. “How do we solve this intractable problem of William being violently jealous of Harry?” Jesus Christ, you guys. What’s even funnier is that for years now (since early 2023), Harry has absolutely maintained that he only really wants to reconcile with Charles, not William. So is Theo Rycroft going to facilitate a reunion between Charles and the Sussexes AND William and Harry? Will there be another summit? What will be done if William throws another violent tantrum at the new summit? And most importantly, will someone fix the printer?

The problem with the Charles + Harry reunion — in theory — is that it shifts the centre of gravity. It implies the wrong son is inheriting. Because the whole point of the monarchy is continuity.
Sorry to this Theo guy. But I do not foresee William letting this happen. I just don’t.
I agree. My first impression from the article is that such excessive praise in British usually means you have a target painted on your back. Tall Poppy Syndrome is a thing in British culture and even more so at the very heart of the Establishment.
I’m less fussed about placing William very obviously as A Dealbraker, Crucial to Everything, Everything Depends on William because if there was one flaw in Meredith Maines program to reconcile Charles and Harry, it was to sideline William. The British way is to pretend a roadblock is super important and then ignore them while going about your business behind the scenes. Sounds like Theo’s got this one.
We’ll see if Clive is able to win in the end, if only for spite on the way out the door to his grace-and-favor home that he denied Harry and Meghan…
But see I think William should be sidelined. He ain’t the king yet. Charles looks weak for making it seem like William is the impediment. Maybe he is. Maybe Charles really is scared of William, idk. But the other issue is Charles and his dithering and honestly not really caring enough to do anything.
So wait. This quote
‘Theo believes that Harry and William need to be forced to shake hands and allow Charles to repair his relationship with Harry.’
implies that Chuckles cannot repair his relationship with his own son without “being allowed” to. By whom? William? Who the hell is the king and why are people STILL tiptoeing around Scooter?! What are they so afraid will happen if Chuckles repairs his relationship with Harry without William’s approval?! What is going on here? Nice king you got there! Such a f-ing coward.
Charles’ staff know he has 10-15 years max, maybe just a few years. So they’re sucking up to William now.
I don’t know how he’s going to force that, given that there seems to be zero desire on either side, and these are two adults who don’t depend on anyone else for financial security. But it does seem like the new people rather than being in their feelings about Harry leaving ( it wasn’t just the family that was upset and embarrassed), realize that William and Kate are non starters and this almost a decade long smear campaign has not benefited the British monarchy in any major way.
The courtiers that are around Charles now are prioritizing their own embarrassment and hurt feelings over the good of the monarchy also, he’s clearly going to be around for longer than they thought a year ago, so all those people that were ingratiating themselves with William probably are on his s*** list as well. Because even if they don’t end up working for William in the long term, how much of a coup would it be to be the courtier that spearheaded the rapproachment between Charles and Harry?
I wonder if part of the thinking here is that it looks better for William (and worse for Harry) if HARRY is the roadblock to reconciliation. Everything we hear is about William wont even let someone say Harry’s name in his presence – but like Kaiser said, at least since 2023 its been clear that Harry is done with William and doesnt expect any sort of reconciliation there. But the British press at least keeps emphasizing how william is the one who wont even hear of talking to Harry.
Maybe this Theo guy realizes that that makes William look really small and petty and he would be better off if it were Harry refusing to meet with William. The idea that William is the one “not allowing” Charles to reconcile with his younger son (however true that may be) is a bad look for William as we’ve all said on here for years now. But HARRY being the one to refuse to meet with William? Well thats something the British press can spin for months/years so maybe he wants to let them do it.
Or maybe he does honestly realize that this is just a bad bad look for both Charles and William especially with Invictus coming up.
There have been so many attempts at making William look better. Every time, the press touts the top credentials of the new unfortunate selected to polish the turd and every time it’s still a turd.
LOL Good luck!
Right? Good luck forcing Harry to do anything that puts him or his wife and children in danger or under the control of the BRF.
Harry’s power is that he’s willing to walk away-without being petulant.
Came here to say this!
I believe Charles wants to reconcile with Harry. If only because Charles is planning for his legacy and wants family at his funeral. But also maybe because BP and KP are so obviously at daggers drawn, what with William already shoveling Charles’ grave, trying to upstage the US trip, and William’s other petty nonsense. Harry’s the only reasonable son Charles has, and Harry actually seems to want a relationship with Charles, so I can believe a sick old man wants a decent (let’s not expect great) relationship with at least one of his children.
That will probably be the end of it. The only way Bulliam agrees to reconcile is if Harry agrees to come back to live under his thumb. Or at least if Harry and Meghan agree to never leave their Montetico home for charity, Invictus, international trips, and all the other things Bulliam thinks he owns.
I don’t see this happening, Chuck and Harry might come to an understanding but I think the relationship between the brothers is irreparable. Personally I think Willy has done something so bad behind doors to the Sussex’s that it will be a “no-contact” relationship forever, something much worse than the decade long rage briefings for the hate campaign… I think it was what Willy was so worried would come out in Oprah and Spare.
Absolutely. Chris Ship basically said it in an article. “It could have been slot worse. Yes. A lot” ..he was talking about revelations in the book or interview I forgot which. It was sooo bad the tabloids were taunting William with articles…”William is sick with worrying, William is holed up alone at Sandringham..William hit the sauce”
With more and more stories coming out about William’s laziness and foul temper, I think this latest article is KCIII’s way of shifting the blame for Harry’s “exile” on William.
[S] “Of course he wants to see the son who he threw out of their home but, it would cause far too much upset to the heir” Obviously, KCIII loves his grandchildren but, couldn’t go against his heir when he vetoed his youngest grandchild being christened in Windsor” [/S]
I think this article is laying the ground for Harry to meet with KCIII and making it quite clear that William is a problem. It wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by either of the palaces that when Harry and KCIII last met it was global news and for the most part the reaction was positive. KCIII could quadruple that positive reaction if he made the effort and extended an invitation to Meghan and the children. WE don’t need to see pictures but, just knowing that KCIII has finally accepted Harry’s family would be wonderful for H&M and has the added bonus of knowing it would be like a kick in the teeth to the incandescent one and his sick note wife.
Yes. Charles may meet up with Harry. And yes it’s still weird that they’re trying to float the idea that it’s the heir’s fault that Charles hasn’t reconciled with Harry. Bc what about the hierarchy??? Charles is the king. He shouldn’t have to care what the heir thinks. The heir is not in charge. It makes Charles look weak to send out a message that he can’t reconcile with Harry bc the heir will be upset. Please. The King’s relationship with Harry is the King’s responsibility. It has nothing to do with the heir unless Charles is afraid of William.
When William was hit in the head, they should have all had a meeting to acknowledge that he was going to be “altered“ by his injury; and they should have recognized and acknowledge that they needed to seriously consider whether, going forward, he was going to exhibit the characteristics he would need to be able to reign as king. It was a matter of national security, from the looks of it. But they didn’t do it.
William was ALWAYS an entitled little brat and a violent, controlling bully, especially towards Harry, LONG before he got hit on the head. It’s high time people stopped blaming that injury for his awful traits. Instead of attempting to straighten him out, get him to see counsellors, child psychologists, etc., they continued to tell him that he was the best and the greatest, shift his shortcomings on to his younger brother, and assign his brother’s strengths to him. And this was encouraged by everyone, from the top down. Wasn’t there a butler who witnessed Harry being punished for things that William had done as a child? And even the nannies showed clear favour to William than to Harry, from the clear disparity in the sides of the bedroom they shared at Balmoral in their younger days, to how many sausages each boy got to eat. No wonder William keeps acting as though he has lost a life-long slave – the brother he told to act like they didn’t know each other at Eton, but who still wanted to reap all of Harry’s glory and global accolades as his own. Jealousy is a strong emotion, especially in inadequate, unaccomplished people.
That head injury was the whipped cream and the cherry, but certainly not the whole sundae. The stupidity and the personality issues had already been present.
Same, Magdalena. I’m sick and tired of every one of Willie’s actions being blamed on a childhood injury. Weird how it has never been mentioned by the RR’s. Someone should suggest he do some public service announcements on head injuries. His reaction might be funny.
Not a snowballs chance in hell will Peg ever ever ever shake his brothers hand and move forward. He would need a complete brain transplant for that to happen!
LOLOLOLOLOL @Kaiser: “And most importantly, will someone fix the printer?” Best throw-away line ever.
Sorry, but I don’t believe the king care about Harry and his family. All he wants from them is control and to make sure they are not more popular than him and his wife. William and Kate are probably fair game. At best his com team is less virulent. They should spare us the ‘great pain’ excuse because he have showed no sigh of been in pain about this. Charles loves Charles and Camilla; nobody else.
‘Secret weapon’ and ‘olive branch’ are been replaced by ‘healing the rift’ and is as useless than the first two.
Amen
H&M should continue raising their family, working at whatever suits them as the family evolve, and forget about the rotten lot of ’em. Enjoy life.
In Spare, H told his worthless excuse of a a father that his & the Firm’s failure to protect his wife would result in serious consequences for the monarchy.
Well, not only are the chickens coming home to roost in real time, but I cant wait for the incandescent one to take the reins so he can expedite the denouement.
😁😁😁 Get out the popcorn 🍿
If it is established in any way the William had anything to do with the demise of Sentebale I would never forgive him, even on his deathbed. That destruction did not just affect Harry but score of families.
Like most bullies, William is such a fragile snowflake. Forbidding the mention of Harry in his presence? LOL. What a baby.
NO. Harry does not need to have his head knocked with William’s. In that line of thinking, someone needs to knock William’s head against a post, since he is the idiot keeping this going. And probably having started it.
I get that this guy is new and he wants to impress Charles but he’s not aware of the whole situation between Harry and William and perhaps should let sleeping dogs lie. Harry hasn’t shown any interest in reconciling with William and it won’t happen without an apology from William.
This. All of the speculation about a reunion between William and Harry, and even Charles, is ridiculous, unless the left-behinds apologize for (and stop) their horrible behavior toward the Sussexes.
And, the Press know this. They are just manufacturing stories likely for, as many here have indicated, a distraction. Well, that and money in their own pockets!
Scooter should go for counseling.
Isn’t Willie going to therapy “to learn how to be King?” LOL! I wonder how that is going?
I’ve read that too. Is it possible that Charles and his team have “sold” William the idea of consulting a psychologist with the argument that it would give him tools for his future role in soft power and diplomacy? While the REAL goal of The Firm is to help William deal with his anger issues and his jealousy issues ?
It seems William’s problems are deep. But who knows… one can hope.
One thing for certain: a good therapy for William is absolutely ESSENTIAL for reconciliation to have any chance to happen. For the moment, William is absolutely unable to listen to Harry’s point of view.
I would believe that William has done something unforgivable against Harry and Meghan. It would seem that they brothers will be alienated forever. That doesn’t mean that the next generation needs to carry on the alienation. Hope William will be a blip in the history of the monarchy. Charles’ reign won’t be much, but at least he did good work as Prince of Wales and has a legacy.
So the Monday morning laugh here is that they think they’re in a position to “force” Harry to do anything. Whatever gets you through the night, I guess.
My take is that Charles realizes that William is very unreasonable towards Harry, to the point of dangerous obsession. But I don’t believe for one second that Charles cares about it from a personal or family perspective. Charles’ priority is the preservation of the monarchy. He and his aides must realize that William’s anger and other problems will undermine it. I suspect that all kinds of actions are taking place behind the scenes to preserve and protect the monarchy as much as possible for the day William becomes king.
It’s mind blowing to me that Charles can’t bring about a reconciliation unless Harry and William “shake hands and say sorry.” He can’t have a relationship with Harry unless Will does? It’s so ridiculous. I do think a reconciliation would be in everyone’s best interest, though, and I do hope that it actually happens.
It IS ridiculous. QEll was doing zoom calls to Montecito and receiving visits from Harry & fam but Charles can’t do the same as a 93ish yr old monarch? Nonsense.
This person probably worked outside the palace enough to know that the main narrative of the royal family being Harry & Meghan and their family rift is not helping anyone. The palace has been so consumed with it for almost a decade that they likely can’t see how ridiculous it is for their brand that this can’t be left behind.
The smartest approach would be for Charles and Harry to have regular conversations and brief that they have a relationship outside of royal duties and it will be left at that. No need to bring in other family or even hint at visits or participation. Just let it lie, and stop talking about them!
Let them stay separate. Some broken relationships cannot be mended. Both men are middle aged and aren’t likely to change. To say these two men will reunite is toying with the section of the public that naively see them as “the boys.”
I’m thinking this continued talk of healing the rift is a big smokescreen for all the way worse news that is out there. Like for instances how much did Charles and the others know about Andrew. What things has William done? What did he do to Kate? Why do they have to reconcile? There are many families that grey rock and go no contact and the subject isn’t beaten to death and occupy every single news cycle for what, eight years now?
If this guy is close to William, there is no reconciliation in the future.
Bill has no right to dictate whether or not there is a relationship between Charles and Harry.
This……
The beauty of Harry’s position is that he doesn’t have to do one damn thing. These dingdongs threw away all their leverage years ago.
