Last week, we learned that Tom Hardy had been booted off the successful Paramount+ series MobLand. Once filming wrapped on Season 2, Hardy was out, and there’s confusion as to why it happened so abruptly. Hardy has always had a reputation for being difficult and chronically late, and he also has a reputation for overstepping with writers and producers. There was also a report that Hardy beefed with Dame Helen Mirren, which also seems in-character for Hardy, who famously caused a lot of frustration for Charlize Theron during filming on Mad Max: Fury Road. So were these the reasons why Hardy was let go so abruptly? Or was it something else?
As charismatic fixer Harry Da Souza in the British gangster drama MobLand, he is the calm lynchpin separating two warring crime families. But when it comes to Tom Hardy himself, it seems life does not imitate art.
The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the actor, who is reported to have been ‘fired’ from Guy Ritchie’s gritty Paramount+ show, had a huge bust-up with producers when it emerged filming for the third series would be pushed back until the end of the year.
Sources say the Mad Max: Fury Road star had decided to take several years out of acting to spend more time with his Peaky Blinders actress wife Charlotte Riley and their two children and had insisted on a ‘hard stop’ to his acting projects by the end of 2026. But he was allegedly left infuriated when it became apparent that delays to the script for season three would mean filming could not start in the summer.
A MobLand insider told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Producers told Tom they couldn’t start filming the new show until later in the year. They were looking at November time because they weren’t happy that the script was ready to go in time for the summer. But Tom has been absolutely insistent that he is not working beyond 2026 because he has decided he wants to take time out from the industry and enjoy family time with Charlotte and the kids. They are discussing going abroad for a few years, leaving the limelight behind them.’
‘It has been a big decision for him and his family so there was a hard stop. Tom tried to get his way and begin the filming this summer but the directors were not agreeing, they said no. It’s no secret that Tom’s behaviour is not to everyone’s taste on set so they were like, go then.’
The absence of Hardy, 48, leaves producers with a ‘huge dilemma’, sources added. Season two of the drama, which also stars Dame Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, finished filming in March. ‘It’s causing quite the headache to work out what they will do and how they will explain away Harry no longer being there,’ the insider added. ‘It’s a disaster but the bosses were not prepared to be told what to do by Tom. Now the script might have to be redone which could delay it even more.’
Honestly? This makes more sense than Helen Mirren getting him fired or whatever. I believe that the speed with which Hardy was booted indicates irritation on the production side, and a falling out with producers and writers. Now, it’s perfectly possible that Tom was also irritating the cast, and we’ve heard nothing about Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren jumping to his defense, publicly or privately. Now, does this also have the vibe of a cover story to explain why Tom isn’t booking jobs for a few years? Possibly. His career definitely indicates that he’s a giant pain in the ass who has burned a lot of bridges.

Both Helen Mirren and Pierce are absolute professionals who are always booked and busy. I always remember Tony Hopkins giving Mel Gibson a pep talk when they were making THe Bounty together in 1984. Mel was in his twenties and had a bar room fight which resulted in a black eye so he couldn’t film for a few days. Tony had nearly detailed his own career through alcoholism so he was warning Mel NOT to sabotage his own career when he was on the verge of stardom the same way. Is Tom Hardy a super intense method actor and/ or is there a drink problem? Acting is a collaboration and turning up on time, fully prepared and ready to listen and react to fellow actors is the mark of a professional.
If it was Hardy’s intention was that he’d no longer be available in 2027, why wasn’t that written into his contract? If it wasn’t, he has no standing to throw a fit when it becomes necessary for him to continue filming in 2027.
I’m guessing there won’t be a Season 3. The series without him just doesn’t really hold together.
