Kirk Cameron left ‘expensive’ California because of the ‘terrible politics’

Kirk Cameron is awful. He’s always been awful. He’s one of those people who hides behind Evangelical Christianity to gay-bash and spread hate. During the pandemic, he was also one of those people “protesting” lockdowns. You know, the lockdowns mandated by state governments to keep people safe, especially as 1.2 million people died from Covid. Well, it looks like Kirk’s superspreader events in 2020-21 were some kind of turning point for him personally. After he beefed with California’s state government over pandemic lockdowns, he moved to Nashville. In a recent podcast interview, he spoke about his decision to leave Cali:

“Growing Pains” star Kirk Cameron recently explained on the “Adam Carolla Podcast” that he left California for Tennessee to escape the Golden State’s “terrible politics” and “all the other things that make it difficult to raise a family.”

“When you’re a kid in California it’s great because your parents are paying for everything,” Cameron said. “So, you go to the beach, you’re hanging out, you’re going snow skiing, you get to eat an In-N-Out burger, you get to get some hot dogs downtown in Hollywood. It’s great. You’re having a good time.”

He continued, “But then, like my kids, they finally got out on their own, and they realized how expensive it is. They realize how terrible the politics are and all of the other things that make it difficult to raise a family there. And so all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, we got to move. We got to go somewhere where we can actually thrive and maybe even just survive.’”

Cameron said he “hopes to come back” to California one day, adding that “pound-for-pound, I think California has just so much to offer.”

Speaking on the positives of living in Nashville, Cameron said, “There’s so many creatives here that have good values. They love their family. They’re proud of their country — and the whiskey is great. So, if you like whiskey and hot chicken, Nashville is the place to be.”

[From Variety]

I brought up the pandemic timeline of this because I think it’s really relevant here, even though hardly anyone else is bringing it up. This dude literally hosted multiple superspreader events in protest of California’s attempts to save people’s lives and not add even more stress on CA’s hospitals. And when Kirk got well-deserved backlash for all of that, he threw a tantrum and moved to Nashville, where there are people with “good values” like… Morgan Wallen. Nashville isn’t even that politically conservative overall, at least not as conservative as the rest of the state! Kirk also isn’t saying this, but I imagine he’s too broke to live in California these days too. I don’t think he’s making that much money.

Can you imagine the huge impact to California’s economy and culture this will have? Hope you all are coping!

I was just going to say the same thing: terrible politics to him = it’s too expensive to live in California. That Growing Pains money wasn’t going to last forever. How much money you think CTN is able to pay him? Judging from his sad Subway sandwich birthday lunch from years ago, not much.

I wish all of these horrible MAGA people did exactly this–leave the blue states. Don’t let the door hit ya…

He moved here to avoid paying state income tax and to benefit from our regressive tax policies that intentionally hurt poor and working class folks to benefit the wealthy. Please. Please. Please. Remember that Tennessee is a purple state that has been steamrolled by the Republikkkan party. The rural countries are dark red because most are controlled by generations of Boss Hogg type clowns and Democratic candidates don’t even run in many country elections. We are magat because of voter apathy, Evangelical cultists and gerrymandering. NASHVILLE AND MEMPHIS are not magat, but have been viciously stripped of representation. F#ck this nasty little tool.

I just wanna say thanks for pointing out that dems in TN don’t bother running in the heavy red rural areas. It’s one of those things that makes total sense, and also hurts, in local politics. I’m in North Carolina and only just realized that we had that same problem for years prior to this past year, when our new state dem chair Clayton Anderson took a big bet to recruit and run dem candidates in all local elections in the state. I think she got a lot of flack for it at the time (waste of time/money/not gonna work) but it paid off big time. Fingers crossed we can break the republican supermajority soon. Dems can show voters that they’re still in the game, that there’s still some type of alternative available, even just to keep the politics from shifting even more rightward.

No one is checking for Kirk Cameron any more. The money from Growing Pains is likely gone and most of his other work isn’t that popular. So in all likelihood, he can not afford to live in California anymore (although he is advertising that he is available for work!).

Until I saw this post, I’d forgotten he existed, and *completely* forgotten I used to have his poster on my bedroom wall (way back before anyone knew he was horrible!).

  6. Jay says:

I’m surprised he was still living in California at all! And yeah, I think the move is probably more financial than political.

  7. ThatGirlThere says:

He can go hand out with Jason Aldean and his transphobic wife and frozen face Carrie Underwood and her racist simpleton husband. I’m sure they’ll have a blast together. Another one for the Nashville citizens to avoid and roll their eyes at.
