King Charles & Prince Harry have not met in person since the Sussexes’ UK return

People haven’t remarked on it much this year, but King Charles no longer has to fly into London once a week for his cancer treatments. That’s how it was throughout 2024 and 2025 – Charles’ schedule was largely dictated by his need to be in London mid-week, every week, for his treatments. Since his announcement last December that his health had significantly improved, Charles’ schedule has been much more open and he’s been able to stay in one place for weeks at a time. Well, since early August, Charles has mostly been in Scotland, at Birkhall or Balmoral. He’s popped up at various events in and around London, but this was his first summer in several years where he really got some quiet time. His Scottish summer was disturbed when the Sussex family suddenly moved back to the UK though. While Charles’ office first claimed that the king would be happy to spend time with Prince Harry, that has not happened. Like, at all.

The Duke of Sussex has not met with his father, King Charles, in person since returning to the UK last month. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have now been back in Britain for over a month, since touching down at Birmingham Airport on 26 August.

However, HELLO! understands that Harry has not seen his father face-to-face since returning, although they are thought to have spoken on the phone.

It was previously reported that Harry and Charles had a telephone conversation during his first week back in the UK.

The King has been in Scotland for much of September, apart from a brief return to London for a handful of engagements at the start of that month. It means any potential reunion with his younger son – and grandchildren Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five – has been made difficult by the distance.

The Sussexes are living in a non-royal residence in the Cotswolds, and have been spotted at local hotspots including the Falkland Arms and Soho Farmhouse in Great Tew.

HELLO! previously reported that Harry spoke directly to his father in the first week following his return, but hadn’t seen each other face to face. The last time they saw each other in person was in July, when Harry and Meghan brought their children to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire to meet with the King and Queen Camilla.

[From Hello]

This is why I spent years pointing out that Charles was such a heartless deadbeat, he wouldn’t even extend an invitation to the Sussexes for family time anywhere. Charles very easily could have invited the Sussexes (or Harry alone) to Scotland to stay for a weekend so they could talk and begin this process of reconciliation. Charles could have been extending those invitations this whole time. He has not. Which is another reason why I question the theory that Harry wanted to return to the UK because of his father’s health. Charles isn’t acting like a man with only months to live, you know? There’s no conciliatory, end-of-life energy. Anyway, I will be very surprised if Charles and Harry see each other in person in the next few months. It looks like the entire apparatus of the monarchy is being moved and adjusted around “snubbing the Sussexes.” Big surprise.

And when was the last time he spoke to or saw Peg? Harry is not the exception. Chuck doesn’t have meaningful relationships with either of his children.

  2. MidnightSuperNova says:

Again, it is clear that Harry is here to watch over the roll out of Invictus in Birmingham. After what happened to Sentebale being infiltrated he’s not taking any chances. I respect it but wish that he had a father who cared. What a shameless deadbeat Chuckles is.

    • CatGotMyTongue says:

Yes. With a side order of the kids getting to see what the UK is really like before the vindictive Other Brother takes over. If security is a hassle now…

    • JanetDR says:

It’s the only thing that makes sense.

    • ChillinginDC says:

I said it before, that makes zero sense. He has a ton of people that sit on Invictus himself included. The Royals are not messing with the Games even a little. As terrible as Charles is, Clive had to come out and say that they supported the Games which is the reason why the one country agreed to participate again.

      • Ginger says:

Agree. I don’t think it’s because of Invictus. I think it’s because Harry misses the UK and wanted to see his friends more often. He honestly seemed really happy whenever he visited.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

“Harry must protect Invictus from the royals” never made sense. How is his location in the UK protecting Invictus? If William wanted to mess with the games, there’s not much Harry can do to stop him regardless of where he’s located. The royals have a whole administrative and media infrastructure backing them up. Harry does not.

      • sunnyside up says:

The army did say they wanted an experienced soldier, one who had faced enemy fire. the only alternative among the royals is Andrew, and he has blotted his copybook beyond redemption.

      • Siri says:

William definitely had his eyes on Invictus. That’s why we kept seeing all the articles about how he should take over the organization.

      • Lorelei says:

I think protecting IG is a possibility, but we really just don’t know. There are so many factors H&M would have had to consider. I hope we find out eventually, but in the meantime, it’s all speculation.

      • Kingston says:

        @Ginger
So a fully grown responsible man with a wife and children and a mortgage and businesses and philanthropic interests across the globe, misses the friends of his youth so much that he uproots his children from school and his wife from her business interests and the loving community of friends she has cultivated, and convinces them that their safety and security and overall wellbeing are not as important as his need to return to live among his friends.

        Okay. Got it.

I swear! The fantasization and infantilization of H&M and WanK that some folks indulge in, need several dissertations.

      • windyriver says:

There’s another reason IG Birmingham may be special to Harry, that’s different from other recent games (any possible RF monkey business BTS or not). It was mentioned in that interview he did with Joe Marler (?) that JJ Chalmers joined him for, which came out just before news broke of the Sussex UK move – Birmingham is where wounded/injured servicemen/women are first transported from overseas, where they’re evaluated, treated, and begin rehab. Fifteen or so years ago, pre-Meghan, when Harry was developing plans for the IG, it would make sense if he spent time in Birmingham, for ideas and background info. The first IG were held in England. Harry’s also said he has a commercial project related to veterans under development. They just held the first Invictus Spirit awards. Harry did the event at the Birmingham school. There are likely more special events planned as July approaches. So he may have an emotional connection to these games that differs from the ones held in other countries.

I was going to say more about why the overall timing meshes on several levels for the Sussexes to be in the UK now (including the advantage of being on the ground in the UK if he’s actually putting together something for next year to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s passing), but nothing else I have to add is different from what’s already been discussed here ad infinitum.

      • Yvette says:

Harry had a lot of people, including himself, involved with Sentebale as well. I’m just saying.

    • Eliza says:

You are correct my friend. It appears Invictus means a lot to Harry, as it should. I too would be worried that the brat would work to ruin it.

    • Preston says:

Andrew could theoretically still compete in the Invictus Games, no?

  3. Louise123 says:

I don’t know why people thought things changed just because the Sussexes are in the UK. Why would Charles see them now when he barely has in six years?

    • SuOutdoors says:

He didn’t before either. I don’t think they are a close knit family. Charles sees probably more of Camilla’s kids than his own sons.

      • Ciotog says:

I doubt Charles spends much time with Camilla’s family, because I don’t think he spends that much time with Camilla.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, I mean, it wasn’t like Charles and Harry were hanging out regularly before he moved to the US. I would guess the majority of the times he saw his father as an adult was at work events.

      • Lurker says:

This is true for both brothers. They famously needed to make an appointment with Charles’s secretary if they wanted to see their father when they were children. Why do people think that has changed? This loving family sees each other at functions, shared public engagement, and the fixed events throughout the year, Easter Church Walk, Trooping, Remembrance, Christmas Church Walk. Charles isn’t close to the Wales children either. He simply isn’t a family man. Neither is William, he isn’t close to any of his cousins and their children.

      • Lorelei says:

We need a different word than “family” to describe these people. (“The Firm” is too generic)

      • StarryOwl says:

        @ Lorelei
        “The royal acquaintances”?
        “The royal mafia”?
        “The royal cartel”?

  4. Shiela Kerr says:

I continue to believe this temporary move (hopeful) is for Invictus and the prior noise surrounding it. Simply based on the number of engagements Prince Harry has had in the UK alone confirms this to me. I also believe Harry would be grateful to visit with his father but grateful, not hopeful because of the type of nasty, immature and self centered man his father is.

  5. Desert Diva says:

Given the King’s health, it really is quite sad that he hasn’t spent time with Harry and his family now that they are back in the UK. Sad, but certainly not surprising. I believe their move was due to the Invictus Games being held in Birmingham. Harry needed to be more present in the run up to the event given the location, not to mention what transpired with Sentabale. I don’t believe there will ever be true reconciliation with the RF. This isn’t about Spare, Oprah, or the Netflix documentary. The cult will never forgive Harry for leaving.

  6. ChillinginDC says:

Eh I still go with the whole education thing since that’s the only thing that makes sense and has been reported for a year now. I don’t blame him for wanting to come out and say that’s what it is, it would make him look like a snob.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

That 102 year old man at Harry’s skydive in Canada made a remark about the schools in England being better than in the States. And Harry just laughed. Interesting. 🤔

      • sunnyside up says:

Meghan did well at school in the US she wouldn’t be worried about it, they do seem to have money.

      • ChillinginDC says:

I mean he should just own it. I will never believe this is because of Invictus. If he had these concerns then he should have said we’re not going to allow any cities in England to host.

      • Lorelei says:

The quality of schools in the U.S. varies so drastically from state to state, even county to county, and from street to street in certain areas — it’s impossible to make sweeping generalizations about it.

It’s all over the place depending on where you live, and mostly about how much money you have. There are some excellent schools, some abhorrent ones, and everything in between.

    • CHARLENEBROOKER says:

Nope. Harry said he did not get a good education at the schools he went to. California has top-rated private schools.

  7. Amy Bee says:

This is not surprising at all. Charles has no interest in a relationship with Harry as along as he remains with Meghan and his children.

  8. Mairzy Doats says:

I don’t think this is so surprising or a big deal. The Sussexes have been crazy busy with a full schedule with settling into kids’ and household routines, and Harry’s multiple engagements literally all over the place. Presumably both sides would want any future meeting to be low key and made public only after the fact, and that won’t be a possibility to schedule until after Charles returns from Scotland and the Sussex schedule settles down. This is just the media looking for something to write about.

  9. windyriver says:

Overall, Charles needs no reason to be a jackass, but with Charles Spencer still out there doing interviews, and talking about how KCIII was giddy hearing about Diana’s death, is it a surprise if he’s not rolling out a welcome mat for Harry? The Sussexes stayed at Althorp over the summer; the Spencers attended the IG tenth anniversary, while the Windsors blanked it; Spencer has mentioned being in touch with Harry more frequently than Will. Most of the Windsors have “petty” as their middle name; this is the same Charles R who yanked Frogmore right after Spare came out. We’ll see if anything changes once the publicity tour for Swan Song dies down. Harry doesn’t seem to be too worried. I don’t think his father’s health is the primary reason for him to be in the UK right now. And he obviously has plenty of other things to do.

    • Lorelei says:

It would be so on-brand for Charles to somehow “blame” Harry for anything having to do with this book just because he maintains a relationship with his uncle. These people are lunatics.

  10. NoHope says:

First and foremost I think this was a forward looking move beyond Charles and even Will, for his children. If Harry realized he did not want his children to be utter foreigners in his country, they had to make this move now.

Harry and Meghan are experienced in the bizarre to us world of BRF relations. They’ve spoken about being excited to see QE II and then having courtiers deny them access. These two are not innocents and what’s sickeningly cold to us is Tuesday to them.

Meg is taking pilates, Harry is thrilled to be back home and going to events, the kids will settle in at school.

The onus is off them. Every day that Charles and Will snub them another stitch in the fabric of support for them unravels. It’s gobsmacking cruelty but C&W are building their own punishment for it.

  11. QuiteContrary says:

These people are so freaking weird.

Imagine not making time to see your child and his family for a whole month after they move back to your country.

    • Puff Updater says:

Chucky is just as creepy as WIlliam and Andrew, if not more so. I just saw a video of him as a young man somewhere, and wow, did he think he was Special. He has drunk the Kool-Aid. It’s always a shock when you see people who actually believe they are ordained by God Almighty to be better than others — what an antiquated notion, and one that should have died forever after the various revolutions. It’s hard for actual sensible humans to witness such craziness. I hope Harry never does see that garbage in person again.

  12. Jais says:

This is very on brand for Charles and the Windsors. They think snubbing people is a sign of strength or status. When it’s just snobbery and a sign of insecurity and weakness. So yeah, on brand.

    • Lorelei says:

@Jais, lol I just said the same thing before reading your comment. Charles’s reputation is set in stone at this point.

  13. Faye says:

I believe the Sussexes only met with Charles Windsor because they had already made up their mind they were going to be in the UK for a while and they didn’t want the usual nonsense of will they/won’t they see each other to drag on as it would’ve otherwise. Now that’s out the way nobody actually cares if they talk or see each other.

It’s the same when Charles was diagnosed with cancer – it was expected and they were being constantly contacted about it. He came to see him ASAP got it out of the way and then they’ve only seen each other 2 or 3 times in all those years. This is also the reason the Sussexes gave a brief statement when Kate Middleton was ‘diagnosed’ with ‘cancer’.

The contact Harry has with his father can’t be compared to how you deal with your family members because you don’t belong to a royal family and don’t have the worlds media contacting you when some breaking news happens. Harry’s father is a head of state and when certain breaking news happens, they have to respond/take certain steps. It’s also why Meghan responded when her father was in the hospital in the Philippines.

I think some blog/forum members and some supporters of H&M try and connect everything they do with Charles Windsor/others. When you look at everything that’s happened since 2020 H&M have just got on with their lives and stuck to the Sandringham Agreement. It is the royal family who broke the terms of the agreement and are also the ones to interfere first with H&M. H&M have their say after their rights and lives are interfered with.

I like to stick to official words and actions from H&M. There’s no reason (other than the security aspect which is finally being assessed) for H&M to self exile themselves because certain members of Harry’s family don’t like them. How does that make sense when millions of us UK citizens don’t like the royal family.

For whatever reason the family have decided to spend some significant time in the UK for several months. If Meghan stayed home in the US with the kids with Harry flying in with for all these events people would still be unhappy, would be accusing Harry of wanting to spend too much time in the UK, and would be making up more gossip about their relationship.
Even Harry who is accused of humiliating himself regarding his father has barely talked about him in years. The last one I remember was after his security outcome where he said he only wants his father to get out of the way because he’s the one interfering directly and through third parties.

    • beautifully broken says:

I agree with you. The British press want to link everything H & M do to the loser Windsors. H & M are doing things in spite of Harry’s family, not because of them.

  14. Eurydice says:

This is like those soap operas I used to watch with my grandmother – where nothing ever happens, just talking, for like 6 months. Then, the long-lost twin of the guy who died in the hospital explosion last year suddenly shows up and everyone in Fairhaven spends the next 6 months talking about it.

    • Puff Updater says:

Lolololol. I used to love how they’d do voiceovers on the oldtime soap operas just of someone thinking, while looking upset. If there could be a voiceover of CRex’s thoughts it would be, “How can I make the people love me now that they know what an asshat I really am? Maybe I’ll get Camilla to commission another bout of excrement-slinging on Meghan…”

  15. Jay says:

That’s absolutely on brand for Charles, sadly. Let’s face it, proximity was never the hurdle here – if Charles had wanted to visit the Sussexes when they lived in Montecito, he could have taken a private jet. I don’t think he spends much time with the Wales children, either. He has his interests, his duties, his own little orderly world, and his sons and grandchildren are not really part of that. Now, if he wants them for some purpose? He probably expects them to be at his beck and call, and he will happily pit them against one another in the press. It’s worked so far – William and Kate are, by their standards, working their asses off and looking distinctly bedraggled now that the Sussexes have come to town.

What surprises me is actually that we haven’t seen Chuck try to use either of his sons in the wake of Swan Song. “See, I’m not a monster! I’m just a sweet grandpa!”

  16. Robin Samuels says:

Charles Windsor opened his mouth to issue a blanket statement that was, in his mind, an insult to Charles Spencer, and got smacked down like the snobbish coward he is.
Hello Magazine has no idea whether or when Harry and Charles communicate. How they manage to still survive in this dying industry is astounding. Maybe it’s because of what they don’t write about. Where is the article about how Harry responded when he learned Charles was sexually involved with his valet and multiple women, or is that part of the gossip that conveniently gets dropped? The cherry-picking is comedy.
Royal stenographers and others use the cancer card for Kate and Charles with no shame, and it’s disrespectful to real cancer survivors.

  17. Beech says:

Harry is Charlie Brown and Chuck is Lucy with a football. End of.

  18. Kathalea says:

Must be his (their?) visa status something. It can’t be anything else. Really can’t be

  19. LADY DIGBY says:

According to the current issue of Private Eye, KC’s carefully curated image is one of eccentric, lovable grandpa!!!
Now that is a RIDICULOUS claim for an icy, snobbish dudes who believes he is the elite and EVERYBODY else are muggles. He was a nasty, deceitful, adulterous husband with zero interest in either son. Lovable grandpa: cite me ONE incident of him being a loving, proud and caring father let alone grandpa?
Spare exposed how cold, dismissive and inadequate he was before and after Diana’s death, He MADE his sons act as his body guards in public. He MADE them walk behind mummy’s coffin in public.
WHAT CARING, SENSITIVE AND PROTECTIVE FATHER DOES THAT TO BEREAVED CHILD AND TEENAGE BOY?
sWAN SONG and SPARE expose what an empty shell of a man and father and grandfather Charles Rex is and that concerns The Firm.

  20. a mascarada says:

Seeing king Charles didn’t include prince Harry in his visit to USA in April I don’t think that’s surprising.
