In Touch: Miley Cyrus is “wasting away” at 100 lbs, wants to lose more weight

Miley Cyrus

More often than not over the past few months, Miley Cyrus has been papped leaving her pilates classes, and the hard work has definitely paid off by the looks of her toned-up body. It could be argued that Miley has little else to do these days besides hit the gym since her latest movie, LOL, grossed $46,500 from 105 theaters last weekend, which is a far cry from the commercial success of her “Hannah Montana” days. Or maybe that has nothing to do with it because Miley also reportedly kick-started her weight loss last December by shedding 15 pounds at a cost of $50,000 to prepare for a beach vacation with Liam Hemsworth. From the looks of things, her weight loss has continued in part because of her new gluten-free diet and, well, all of those pilates classes. These photos are from 4/30 when Miley attended class and walked her dog later that day as well.

Miley and her superfit bod were seen walking her dog later that day as well.

Miley Cyrus

A story in this week’s In Touch claims that Miley is addicted to dieting and exercise (which they evidence through her daily pilates runs and dog walks) and has reached the very precarious weight of 100 pounds. She also allegedly wants to lose more weight “to help her win movie roles,” which sounds a little bit fake. Although I’d believe it if someone told me that Miley wanted to lose more weight because she’s worried about losing Liam. Here’s the story from InTouch:

As Miley Cyrus left the Winsor Pilates studio in Hollywood on April 27, onlookers couldn’t believe that the pin-thin woman with rock-hard abs was once a chubby-cheeked tween idol. “She looks so skinny!” a passerby tells In Touch of the 19-year-old, who works out in private sessions at the studio of Pilates guru Mari Winsor nearly every days. “She looks like a completely different person.”

Indeed, Miley has been wasting away since she traded her beloved burgers and potato chips for salads, and embarked on an extreme fitness routine that would put even Madonna to shame. Although she insisten on Twitter that a gluten-free diet was to blame for her shocking weight loss, insiders say miley vowed to slim down for a Hawaiian vacation with her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, in December. She has now gone above and beyond her goals, having dropped 20 pounds from her already tiny frame, believes private trainer Thomas Johnson of Santa Monica Sports Medicine. “Miley is now underweight at 100 pounds,” Johnson tells In Touch of the 5’4″ star.

But she isn’t stopping. On top of her Pilates regimen, Miley has been jogging and biking with her dog, Floyd, around her Touluca lake, Calif., neighborhood, and even enlisted the help of celebrity trainer Harvey Pasternak to further whittle her waist. With so much physical activity and not enough eating, Johnson fears she’s gone overboard. “She is likely overtraining,” he explains, “which can increase her chances of depression and hypertension.”

While she tells friends she feels better than ever — “health is happiness,” she recently raved — perhaps she should remember that most men love curves. Relax and eat a pizza, Miley!

[From In Touch, print edition, May 21, 2012]

At Miley’s current weight (and I don’t necessarily believe that it’s as low as 100 pounds), she looks pretty healthy. In fact, she looks very fit and better than she ever has looked. Does she need to lose more weight? Absolutely not, and I hope she realizes that.

For comparison’s sake, here’s some photos of Miley making the run to her pilates classes in late February. She’s more covered up in these pictures and looks slightly less toned up, but it’s a visible difference.

Here are some bikini photos of Miley on 12/29 while she and Liam were on the vacation that she supposedly crash-dieted for and reportedly lost 15 pounds in just a few weeks. She does look about 5 pounds or so heavier than she does now, so maybe the In Touch article is right about her losing 20 pounds. Whatever the case, Miley definitely doesn’t need to lose any more weight.

    I think she looks great.
Her beach sunglasses, however, do not.

    • gg says:

I wore a pair of those sunglasses throughout the 80s. They were glued to my head. Surprised they’re back, but then, when glasses change styles, the “new styles” last about ten minutes and then they’re suddenly considered tacky.

      • Zelda says:

Actually, I don’t hate the sunglasses, I just don’t think they suit her face. The aviators up top are much better.

  2. aang says:

My 5’4 daughter stops menstruating when she is under 105 lbs, and when that happens you are doing damage to your body. Miley doesn’t look sick. Yet.

    • ZenB!tch says:

I ran track in HS – that is exactly what happened to me at 5’3″-4″ ~ 100-105. *I* loved it but my mom was freaked out.

  3. marie says:

she looks toned to me, but definitely doesn’t need to lose more weight, I think she looks good

  4. Rin says:

Miley is a total user. She banked millions off of little kids with the backpacks, clothing, barbie dolls, movies and then decides she needs to break free–“aka dress like a skank and do drugs”. It’s the Disney effect and its harmful to little girls when they see the girls that have been marketed to them turn out like this.

If she was abducted by space aliens I would cheer.

    • Zelda says:

Um, pre-teen Miley Cyrus was hardly resposible for the way she was marketed.

Also, if you are upset that your kid is turning out badly because of actors on Disney, you need to be considering why Disney is raising your child.

      • Lucy says:

        +1 boosh!

      • TruthTella says:

        +2 BOOM!

      • Happymom says:

        Sing it, sister.

      • Rin says:

I don’t have cable. TV doesn’t raise my children, I do. You needn’t assume that I’m some slovenly lazy mom who lets television babysit my kids because I have an opinion about the merchandising that is on every toy aisle.

At the age of 18 when she decided to go crazy while STILL selling Barbies, yes, it IS a conscious decision. Madonna never marketed to kids. There is a responsibility that arises when you’ve done what Miley did with her career and if she was going to “part ways” she should have taken some time off, laid low, and then come back with the skankery.

    • WickedSteppMom says:

You ALSO need to realize that Hannah Montana is a character that was marketed & Miley Cyrus is a person. My 7 y/o daughter ADORES Hannah Montana…but there were episodes I previewed before she was allowed to watch them. She is also aware that Miley Cyrus is the actress who plays Hannah “like pretend-play, or dress-up.” and she knows there are songs of Miley’s she’s not allowed to listen to, pictures she’s not allowed to see & videos she’s not allowed to watch. I explained to her that Miley got tired of having to pretend to be Hannah all the time & has been trying to act more grown up, and some of what she’s doing is a little TOO grown up! Yet, anytime we see *anything* Hannah Montana at a yard sale, my daughter asks if she has enough money in her piggy bank at home to buy it!

      • Zelda says:

        Well said.

Parents can’t expect the world to be ideal for their children. They should develop ways to explain to their children why the world is not ideal.

Focusing on the dangers of the world around your child is not parenting. Focusing on your child’s education in navigating the world’s pitfalls is.

      • Amanda G says:

@Zelda I’m not sure why I can’t reply directly to your post, but I wanted to say RIGHT ON! I’m so tired of parents expecting TV, celebs and movies to do their jobs.

    • Zelda says:

      @Rin
Miley Cyrus is not Hannah Montana, and even very young children can certainly be made to understand that.

Wicked Stepmom explains well in this thread.

      • Rin says:

I’m not talking about “Hanna Montanna” and the inability of children to recognize a character. I don’t think my kids believe the muppets are real.

I’m speaking of mass marketing, brand marketing, NLP, etc. the human tendency towards iconization, and all sorts of behavioral and cognitive sciences that are studied by marketing students in colleges all across the country in an attempt to create consumer campaigns.

If you buy makeup instead of living au naturale, it is because you believe you look better in it. Why do you believe it? Because a standard of beauty is shoved at you.

Kids may realize that there is an actress that plays Hanna Montanna, but subconsciously they are buying into the whole product–the fact that it was shoved under the iconic definition of family values “Disney” (I say that with a snort) sends a message that the actions, dress, and behavior is alright.

If these processes didn’t work, then companies wouldn’t pay billions in marketing.

  5. Aud says:

She doesn’t look like she’s wasting away.
I shudder to think about looking at other uber thin celebrities and their xylophone ribcages (e.g. Saldana, Jolie, Rimes).

  6. Maritza says:

She has lost weight in all the right places, she looks really good.

  7. Mia 4S says:

She looks good…so far. However I hope this it not about getting roles. It’s not the looks that are the problem in that case. She is a nice looking girl, but she’s not exactly Jennifer Lawrence in the acting talent area. She’ll find her niche, but it may not be as big as she was hoping.

  8. Izabel says:

    She seems in great shape

  9. Launicaangelina says:

I think she looks great right now – very healthy looking. I’d love to be that fit and toned. My only issue with her are her shoulders. She looks like she’s always shrugging them or that she’s always tensed up.

    • Happymom says:

I hate to be so snarky about things one can’t control-but she has no neck. That’s why it appears that her head is resting on her shoulders.

  10. JenD says:

I think she looks fit. I wish I had the dedication to get that toned.

  11. another nina says:

She looks great now. And I’d say that you can’t loose too much (if any) weight with Pilates, it just tones your body. I do it every day, too. Nope, it’s dieting and possibly jogging/cycling if she gets some serious mileage.

    • ZenB!tch says:

Exactly… I do Pilates to reshape the muscle under the fat – which I do Zumba and other dance classes for.

Pilates has changed the shape of my body but without the cardio I don’t lose weight.

With Miley you can see the difference in her legs. They were decent before now they cause envy.

  12. Eleonor says:

That puppy is adorable!! And the girl has fantastic legs.

  13. Cat says:

She looks fine. She looks thinner in the beach pics. Look at her shoulders & collar bone… Way healthier now. IMO

  14. Bella says:

Her career is dead. What else she can do to get media attention. Weigh and all these weight issues are always “hot topic”. It’s easy and always work.

    • TruthTella says:

LOL (no pun intended) her career is not dead, “LOL” wasn’t even promoted, the studio realised how lame it is and just tried to slide it under the radar.
She recently wrapped up a world tour that made her like $50,000,000 and she’s working on her next album and has a few other films out this year.

    • Adrien says:

Truthtella, the biggest earner in terms of tour/shows was Taylor Swift followed by U2. Taylor earned around $35 M. Even old-time band Journey and 80s songstress Sade earned more than Miley. Sade didn’t even promote her North American tourdates.

    • TruthTella says:

@Adrien, she didn’t bring the tour to the US it was just Australia, South America and the Philippines.

  15. cleveland girl says:

All it takes in one article in a tabloid or one person to say you look “chubby” to throw a young woman into an anorexic tailspin. She looks great now, but I think she needs to be careful. She is getting so much praise and attention for her new body that it can almost be detrimental to her mental well being.

  16. imabrat says:

She certainly doesn’t look like she’s “wasting away”. I think she’s desperate for attention now that her career is pretty much over.

  17. lucy2 says:

I think she looks very fit, but does not need to lose any more weight. Also agree she’s not down to 100 lbs.

  18. Me says:

She looks fab. I dont think she should lose another pound though.

  19. Anorexic Nation says:

Sick, sick, sick, of this nonsense. She looks like she could be unhealthy or engaging in eating disorder behavior. That is not a requirement of being 100 pounds. A lot of people who are not 100 pounds or less, or have a low bmi, are doing horribly healthy things to their body to be thin. Such silliness. what is the damn trend about 100 pounds? i have been seeing this for years, or lower. My lowest weight was 87 pounds and i was 5’4″, every bone in my body showed and i didn’t have any fat to grab. I once saw a magazine claiming Angelina was 90 something pounds at 5’7″, when she clearly wasn’t. I might sound like a conspiracy theorist, but seriously, this kind of misinformation breeds eating disorders. It confuses and manipulates women with false numbers and body shapes.

    • Becky1 says:

Yeah-I get really tired of hearing/reading all of these fake weights. I really don’t think she’s 100 lbs-probably more like 110-115 lbs. I think she looks great but she definitely should not lose any more weight…any thinner and she’d look too thin. Wouldn’t it be nice if some of these celebs would be honest about what they really weigh? I was anorexic as a teen and my lowest weight was also 87 lbs (I’m 5’6″). When I look at photos of myself from that time it makes me sick-I looked like a skeleton. I remember reading tabloid articles when I was in the midst of my eating disorder and actually believing the weights that they said people supposedly were.

  20. Talie says:

I feel for her, I think it will really break her when Liam leaves her. Which will happen eventually.

  21. xxodettexx says:

what a hot bitch… and miley’s not looking bad either! 😉

  22. Zozo says:

I think all of her recent behaviour can be attributed to depression. I have several friends who have begun a Gluten and Dairy free diet due to depression. It is a natural approach rather than taking antidepressants. Also this approach stresses the importance of exercise as it helps raise your endorphin levels. So with Miley’s recent daily exercise, her new diet as well as those photos that came out with her cutting herself, I say she has been diagnosed with depression and is trying to get better naturally.

    • anon33 says:

      Interesting thoughts!
That is exactly what I did (although I never went so far as to be completely gluten or dairy free, but just reduced my intake of those foods.) Eating right + Pilates + breathing exercises really helped me recover.
My depression has been in remission for about five years now. When I slip back into bad eating patterns, or go without exercising for a couple month, I can feel it creeping back in. If that’s the case then good for her! Natural remedies can help.

      • Zozo says:

Yes to be honest when I say a friend I really mean myself lol. But I also have other friends have tried this approach and has worked well for myself and them as well.
Good for you though! I feel the same way, if I don’t work out for a couple days I feel foggy and down.
I much prefer this method when compared to taking anti depressants, but to each their own.

      • anon33 says:

Zozo, good for you too! Glad you shared.

And ITA about anti-depressants. Before I tried the natural stuff, I tried counseling w/meds, and they gave me Lexapro. I HATED LEXAPRO. HATED. It made me feel like a zombie, and FORGET having a sex drive. Will never ever go on another psychoactive drug again.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely understand that some people need meds to function (Britney) or they feel that the meds help them. Whatever works for you. Meds just didn’t work for me.

    • Kim says:

I couldnt agree less. So now any woman who wants to take care of her body is depressed? Absolutely ridiculous!

  23. IrishEyes says:

I personally think she looks great. Does she need to lose more weight? No. However, I’m 5.4″ and suffer from a GI disease that makes my weight fluctuate between 100-115 pounds. I personally feel comfortable around 110… which is what she looks like she weighs to me. Plus, maybe she lost the rest of her ‘baby-fat’? Who knows…

  24. TheOriginalKitten says:

Is that a Mini Husky??? So cute…

    • BabyCakes says:

I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know which type of breed it is? It’s adorable!

    • BabyCakes says:

…durp. I should know that being I live in Alaska, but I’ve never seen one. I have to have one now!! Thanks for the info.

  25. mary simon says:

I think the body language in the last picture says it all – she’s giving him a clinging smotherhug and he looks detached while barely touching her with his open hands. He’s going to leave her and she knows it – that’s why she’s working so hard on her body.

  26. Jenna says:

Does she have perma-duck lips when she’s not smiling or something? Sheesh.

But yes, at the moment she looks nice and toned. But more importantly hello Liam! 🙂

  27. Lisa says:

ffs. she’s not wasting away. She just needs to pull her damn shoulders back and un-duck those lips.

  28. Chellez says:

these new ads covering nearly the bottom half of most fotos now? yeah, they suck, you guys.

  29. K says:

I think she looks healthy. It just goes to show what regular exercise can do on a small frame.

  30. OlsenTriplet says:

I know how you can lose 15 lbs in five minutes. And I won’t charge you $50,000.

    Ready?

Cut off one of your arms.

    You’re welcome, and you’re 15 lbs lighter.

    • Kim says:

Some may be offended but your comment cracked me up! I truly think if it didnt affect their careers alot of Hollywood women would do this to weigh less. Thats how sick and unhealthy Hollywood is about womens weight!

  31. Stacia says:

Honestly, she’s not emaciated or wasting away. She seem to be at a normal weight. I don’t see bones protruding and she has normal body fat.

  32. benny says:

Her boyfriend’s career is taking off while hers is fading away. I think it’s a mixture of insecurity and wanted to be thin for more roles.

  33. Kim says:

OK i never thought I would find myself defending Miley but she looks healthy. I dont think she weighs as little as 100 but who cares what the # is. She looks healthy not anorexic, is exercising & eating right.

This is a girl who a year ago was being called chubby when she wasnt. Damned is she does, damned if she doesnt.

  34. Vera says:

I feel like this is a non-story. Just…sure, she’s lost a little weight, but it appears to be done through exercise and diet, not crash dieting or starvation. She looks like maybe she’s around 110 or 115, and for her height that isn’t really a problem.
I don’t particularly like her (or hate her), but this all just seems ridiculous. She just looks like she’s toning up – maybe she’s gearing up for more music and tours and stuff (I have no idea – I don’t follow anything she does save for on here), maybe she just want to be healthier. But this does not look like a girl in trouble. That may change, but right now it doesn’t look like she’s in mortal danger with her pilates and gluten-free diet or whatever.

  35. JennJennM says:

She cannot possibly be 100 lbs. I have a very lean build, am a few inches shorter, and weigh 105. She is slender and toned, not scrawny or emaciated. She looks great right now and would still look great if she put on 5-10 lbs.

  36. bettyrose says:

She’s a teenager with no job who works out daily. I don’t understand the issue. I’m about her height, and at her age I weighed about 115 without any effort to diet. I walked everywhere, but I didn’t engage in any formal exercise plan. So, I imagine that if I had put effort into diet/exercise, 100 pounds wouldn’t have been unrealistic.

  37. Sophie says:

    Liam…yum.

  38. leslilly says:

She looks fine. Isn’t she on the tall-ish side? No way is she 100 lbs – I’d guess a healthy 130 lbs.

  39. Jackie says:

I have an Alaskan Klee Kai and he’s my baby. He looks a lot like this. They shed like crazy though

  40. apsutter says:

I hate those stupid bandeau bikini tops. Even for small chested girls, they do not do your girls any favors ladies!

  41. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

I dont mind her. But her veneers are so Fr*ggin big she always looks like she has this “der” face on. Much preffered her old teeth. She was so pretty natural.
preffered the more wholesome image too. I really DONT need to know what a massive pot head you are. keep it to yourself genius. 🙁

  42. Amanda G says:

She looks like a healthy young woman to me. Man, some people just can’t win! They get hated on for being slightly chubby and then they still get hated on after they lose it!

  43. Chrissy says:

She doesn’t look too thin and I kind of doubt she’s as low as 100 lbs. I don’t know how tall she is, but she doesn’t seem too tall so she may still be in a normal range. Hopefully she will not go too far.

  44. Elyse says:

Wow. Leave her alone!!! I feel SO bad for this girl. I remember a few months ago some media outlet ran a story saying she was fat. Now she’s “wasting away”, wtf do you want from her? From what I remember seeing her on Hannah Montana years ago, she’s always been lanky..but jesus, what do you guys want from her? You want her to be Lindsay Lohan? Is that it? She’s not a psycho crack whore party girl (yet) but will most likely turn into one if these stories, that would destroy anyone’s self-esteem, keep running.
