Katie Holmes is ringing in the latter part of 2013 in Miami. To be more precise, Katie is hanging with Suri on the beach. They look happy and relaxed and — most importantly — are thousands of miles away from Tiny Tom. Katie is rocking a hot pink bikini, and you can see more full body shots here. Katie’s working the swimsuit without flaunting it, and that’s a tough balance to achieve.
Suri looks really cute in her Hello Kitty swimsuit too. I know some people will get all worked up about a young child in a two-piece suit, but I don’t see a problem here. My daughter wore a bikini when she was seven years old like Suri, but now it’s nothing but a one piece. Give Suri a few years, and she’ll probably grow into an “embarrassed” tweenager too. I miss those days when my daughter was carefree enough to not worry about what people think of how she looks at the pool.
I’m also including gallery photos of Katie at the recent Jingle Ball in New York City. She’s pose harding like her life depends on it. That’s kind of funny because you know Tom hates it.

Wow, Americans must start they’re body shaming really early if you’re defending a child in a bikini at the beach?
It’s not about body shaming. It’s about some retailers selling bikinis that do not belong on children (with padded tops, for instance). A Hello Kitty two piece suit seems age appropriate and harmless.
The controversy stems from how young girls’ clothes (even toddlers) here in the US has been over sexualised. So it’s hard to find cute bikinis vs sexy bikinis. And remember we’re still talking about young girls’ clothing here not something an adult wears.
Yep, agree, but isn’t it also interesting how adults want their children to look age-appropriate (the idea of what that means has also changed so much since the 18th century) and that age-appropriate means ‘cute’ for most? So many are trying to find “cute clothing” to make them look “cute” / support their essential cuteness? And the other way is clothing that aims at making them look like not yet fully grown adults? Why does it have to be cute vs sexy?
I mean, I say “cute” all the time but I sure hated my ‘cute’ children’s glasses. And that’s not just because they really didn’t look like something an adult would wear (although, 80s!) but because they weren’t what I’d have chosen. Ha!
Also cute vs sexy really applies to women and feminism. When a woman is young, she’s got to be beautiful / sexy and cute, later on she’s got to be sexy but can drop the cuteness (or even should drop it, because “ew and unprofessional”) and the ‘best woman’ is apparently one who is sexy / beautiful (not my idea to make them almost interchangeable) AND smart “as well”.
And I’ve heard that “smart as well” one too many times. Bah.
Yeah the only time I don’t like bikinis (kids in them) is when they have the padded tops OR (and this is just something that’s weird with me, I wouldn’t be side eyeing any parents or kids) when the top has two individual ‘cups’–you know like an actual bikini. I don’t know why, but it just bugs me. Especially if they’re TINY triangles, that barely cover anything. I feel like that’s sexualizing a child, and I don’t like it.
Tryanderror, I just reread your comment. ‘Cute’ is a relative term. What I mean is not necessarily what you think I mean. I dressed my daughter in things she loved but were still appropriate. To me, ‘cute’ is just a generic term to mean appropriate (all this is said with kids in mind).
We had this conversation on a school field trip (the moms) and they were mystified as to why the kids have started talking about sex. I told the: look around, look at what the girls are wearing and now they are also painting their nails and getting pedicures. Children will eventually catch one and behave the wear they are being portrayed.
The concern is more about the sexualization of young girls. Some bikinis for this age group are waaaay too skimpy.
Body shaming is a problem, but that’s not the reason for being defensive about bikini-wearing children.
Agree. Many of the outfits for young girls are just not appropriate anymore, let alone bikinis. Suri’s bathing suit looks fine, but what some parents put their little girls in now is just too much. With so many creeps out there, why make your little child look like a sexpot? Let children be children, and guard that innocence that goes with it. They grow up way too fast as it is.
I never knew people got upset with a child in a two piece. I had one as a kid. I don’t remember anyone ever shaming my mom over it but then it was a hundred years ago when, in my opinion, people seemed less judgemental than today.
Bikinis for girls and teenagers then weren’t ‘tiny triangles on a string’ either (my daughters description of an elementary girl’s bikini).
There were clothes for women and clothes for girls and teenagers. They were different even a few decades ago.
LS, Minnfinn, eliza, Marigold
Nailed it.
I think I did more swimming in my underwear under the age or 4 or 5 than I did in a bathing suit. Only in private family beaches or pools though.
When I was a kid we all wore bikini bottoms and no tops until we were, like, seven.
I believe this to be not so much a case of preventing bodyshaming, instead the writer is defensive about the bikini on their child (rightly so) because of the discussion about possible sexualization of children by putting them in bikinis (a clothing item that WAS intended to be showing more skin & was really provocative and still is seen as sexy but is also really practical and comfortable). The problem is that in our society, skin = sex (I know, it’s broadly spoken and obviously doesn’t work, but skin does make people look, and girls in bikinis – there’s the whole topic of breasts / breast area = parts of our bodies and / or sexual objects, depending on the point of view and situation) and some people react to children ‘showing skin’ in a sexual manner. So it’s about finding the individual right line between letting the kid wear what the kid wants, protecting the kid, and hoping to live in a society where a child can wear a bikini and not having the kid be sexualized because of it or be blamed as a bad parent for “not protecting the kid from harm”. It’s really complicated and there are lot’s of pros and cons to the whole bikini topic. I got the impression that this site is also involved in stopping the bodyshame phase, it’s just not that the writer here said it because of people going and judging a kid for their body and looks in a bikini (I hope there aren’t many) but because of the discussion about children and sexuality and sexualization.
Also this discussion and that of bodyshaming applies to a lot more societies than just the U.S.!
I would even go so far as saying that all modern societies / cultures (and they are overlapping and not to be condensed into legal countries or regions of the world) have to address those topics.
The reality is there are different types of bikinis. There ARE cute two piece swim suits and there are also very obviously, overtly sexual two piece swim suits.
argh, cute vs sexy again.
Cute is something more appropriate for a child than sexy. Just my opinion. Whole different ball game when we’re talking about adults and we’re not. At least, I’m not.
I’m more offended by parents who let their kids walk around in short shorts with phrases written across the butt (ie. twerk team captain). It also doesn’t help that their butt cheeks hang out the bottom. Not age appropriate for an 8 year old!
They look happy and relaxed. And Katie looks super cute in that last photo, posing hard and all.
Katie Holmes has been looking really fantastic lately, imo.
I agree — she looks wonderful. I love her hair. I recently tried the haircare line that she reps. I bought the trial sizes of the Caviar Collection that Katie (supposedly) handpicked & it is fantastic. My hair has never looked so good.
I didn’t know she was repping a hair company. Do you mind if I ask if it was expensive? You are happy with it?
Cecilia and Andrea – I have been using the Caviar line by Alterna for almost 7 years and I LOVE it!!! Unfortunately it is pricey, but it is worth it in my opinion because a little of it goes a long way and I wash my hair every 4 days or so anyway. The shampoo cleans the hair so well without stripping it of moisture. I use the deep conditioner mask and it makes my hair so soft and no split ends! I sound like a commercial, but it really is awesome stuff and I’m always surprised that more people haven’t heard of it. The Bamboo line by Alterna is also really good – there is a hair oil called Kendi oil that I use. Much better than say Moroccan Oil – it is lighter feeling and not as greasy and heavy.
Also, Caviar hairspray is awesome!!! Lol.
Hi Andrea…The manufacturer name is Alterna & yes, it is high-end so a bit on the expensive side. I loved the samples so much I bought the full-size Caviar Shampoo & Conditioner together for $54.00. They have other lines as well in addition to the Caviar. You won’t be disappointed. The Kendi oil is also amazing!
I didn’t know she was associated with Alterna Caviar. I actually first tried their products because Jennifer Aniston used to use them (and this was years ago when she was wearing extensions and weaves and I thought she had fabulous hair). But the products are great. They’re pricey but I’m down to washing my hair only a few times/week so they last a long time.
And Katie (and her hair) looks great!!
littlestar: I use a few of the leave-in products by the Alterna Bamboo line and I love them, especially the root blast.
@ Littlestar…I had no idea that this product had been on the market for 7 years. I thought it was relatively new. Maybe more attention has been brought to this fabulous product by Katie’s promo. I have not tried the hairspray. Have you tried the dry wash for in-between shampoos? It’s great!
Cecilia – Apparently Alterna has been around for a while, even before I started using the products! I only recently learned within the past couple of years that Katie Holmes now reps the line and I was surprised (I think she might be an owner too, but I’m not too sure on that). I haven’t tried the dry wash for in-between shampoos, but will definitely check it out as I try and go as long as possible without washing my hair.
emmie – I’m going to have to try the root blast as well lol. I really can’t say enough about how great Alterna products are.
I love seeing Katie looking so relaxed and happy, enjoying time with her sweet little girl!
I admit I am a person who sometimes cringes at a little girl in a two piece. But here’s my thinking: the suit Surie has on here is appropriate, it’s cut like it was made for a six year old body and it has plenty of coverage. What bothers me and skeeves me is seeing a little girl in a triangle top and string bottoms. The top implies that the tiny, innocent, not yet fully formed child has breasts and the bottom does not cover enough. I think a two piece is fine if it honors the innocence and actual shape of the child’s little body, get what I’m saying?
Interesting observation and after reading your description about the different “types” of child bikinis, I think I agree with you.
In one instance it’s dressing a child like a child and the other instance it’s dressing a child like a ‘mini adult’.
100%. I think it’s perfectly fine for adult women to dress any which way they want but it’s not appropriate for girls and teenagers to dress sexy.
Most people don’t get how hard it is to find non-sexy clothing for young girls either. It’s a lot more prevelant than people realise.
once i saw a 5 years old with just a thong bottom. That shocked me for life. Her father was defending his choice and i thought he was just a dirty sleazebag and i was so sorry for tha little girl you can’t even imagine.
Are you effin’ kidding me? Also, I question any company that makes a thong-style bikini for a child. Appalling..
Kitten, That type of clothing is WAY more common for girls than you think. It took a bit of work to find ‘cute and appropriate’ clothing for my daughter while she was growing up. Heck, she’s 15 and it’s STILL a challenge. Luckily for me she’s modest and not into baring it all…
…smh…
Growing up, we didn’t have a lot of money and my mom made most of my clothes. Otherwise, for store-bought stuff, I don’t remember anything being too revealing or inappropriate. It says a lot about society that the trend in children’s clothes seems to be going towards more overtly-sexual. Yuck.
I totally agree. There is a difference between a swimsuit clearly made for a child and a suit that is made for an adult body being sold to a child. This suit is clearly age appropriate.
Not just that but a lot of the clothes are ugly with gaudy pictures and a ton of glitter. My husband banned anything with glitter because he got his uniform out of the dryer and it looked like a disco ball exploded over it.
Isa, you’re right. My mom and I just went shopping for clothes—everything is so cheap and gaudy–glitter or sequins are on EVERYTHING. The designs for tops are always tacky (which is why 90% of the time I wear tshirts), and look cheap…ugh. I already hate clothes shopping, but it’s worse when there’s nothing that I like.
Anyone know the last time we saw Tom with Suri? Seem’s like it’s been quite a while.
Didn’t you hear? He abandoned her.
They both look happy and quite adorable. It looks like Katie took her daughter to the beach, instead of *Look at me!! I’m in a bikini!! Don’t I have a bangin’ body? I’m sexy.*
I don’t think the two piece itself is an issue if no one is body shaming the little girl into caring what she looks like. I put my pudgy awkward bod in a two piece at that age and loved it. Never even occurred to me to care what others thought.
Suri looks like both her mom and dad. Even as an infant it was so clear to me that she was the biological child of TomKat.
I don’t think so.

She looks uncannily like Tommy Davis. Who has conveniently disappeared from Co$.

holy sh*t! Suri looks exactly like this guy. So Tom Cruise has no biological children at all, so he is infertile?
Oh gawd the implications … was she required to have sex with this other guy? Or did she merely consent to artificial insemination once it became clear that her legal husband never intended to have sex with her? I bet Nicole Kidman knows exactly what went down, but no one dares talk about it.
Why is Katie still such a pap magnet?
Because her career is tanking and she must still want an acting career. Media attention keeps her relevant and top of mind for the Hollywood power brokers doing the hiring.
That’s my best guess.
I think it’s more to due with the explosion of her marriage and her ties to Tom and CoS…
Katie and Suri look cute and happy, but these stories about celeb winter breaks depress me. Wish I had a smokin’ bikini body and the money to go to some exotic beach to flaunt it.
You don’t have to flaunt your body. I’m too critical of my own body, and envious of others. But really, it’s about enjoying the time that you have.
Flaunting your body will actually get you a lot more shame than just being yourself and enjoying your holiday 🙂
Just the thought of feeling warm sunlight on my skin makes me want to weep. Much less experiencing it at some fabulous resort and being able to spend whatever i want on food and drinks and cute swimwear and cover ups. Do they truly appreciate it? I really hope so.
I think Katie’s body looks great for someone having a kid sure you can see the stretchmarks but still looks good.
I do feel like a creep watching these pics I highly doubt they were aware they were being watched.
Your comments made me look at the article and I was so shocked they didn’t photoshop her tummy! She looks real! Lol
In some of the other photos on Daily Mail, Tom’s longtime COS bodyguard is in the background and is even seen talking to Katie. She’s also wearing a necklace that says LOVE and one that has an arrow under the LOVE necklace. Something shady is going on. Dear God I hope she hasn’t gone and reconciled with that maniac. I’m hoping she’s just there to chaperone while her daughter visits her dad.
Which CoS bodyguard do you mean?
Do you think Tom is there?
You can go the The Daily Mail site and there’s a lot more photos. There’s one that shows his longtime COS bodyguard behind Katie and then in another he’s talking to her. Here’s the link:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2531389/Katie-Holmes-strips-hot-pink-bikini-lounges-poolside-Suri-Miami.html
He’s sitting right behind her in the first photo.
Something shady is going on.
I thought the same thing as she is near in proximity to Tom right now.
Please oh please say it ain’t so.
There’s more pictures of them in Miami over at Daily Mail. The bodyguard is still with her and Suri. Something’s definitely up. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2533181/Watch-fro-yo-Katie-Holmes-treats-daughter-Suri-sweet-treat-holiday-Miami.html
They both look adorable, and Suri is looking more and more like Tom.
As far as the bikini issue goes, I have2 girls. I stopped putting them in a bikini because they hated having sunblock applied. So we went to a rash guard with a bikini bottom. Now that they are nearly teens, they like tankinis. I would have no problem with them wearing a bikini provided it had enough coverage and they applied sunblock.
I think it is nice to see a child of a celebrity munching on a BURGER (eating food!?!) while in a swim suit. Kinda reminds me of real folks.
What about a celebrity munching on a BURGER?? We can only hope. Stay tuned!
I have a big problem with how adult looking little girl/tween clothes are getting. My daughters are only 3 & 1, but even at those young ages it’s hard to find things that don’t look like a Kardashian would wear them. A poster above was lamenting the word ‘cute.’ I personally love the word ‘cute’ for little girls. They don’t need to be constantly in pink ribbons in ruffles (I hate that kinda stuff actually). But I want them to look like little girls, not tiny adults. I am tired of seeing 12yr olds with their arse cheeks hanging out of their booty shorts while wearing stripper shoes & 3lbs of makeup. Or 6yr olds wearing skull halter tops with low-rise skinny jeans w/their butt crack on display. My husband looks at clothing racks at Target or the mall and is even more disgusted at the selection than I am. He’ll look at the teeny shorts or skirts and say, “N is NOT dressing like that in a few years!”
My 3yr old wears 2pc bathing suits because she’s so tall and skinny that she doesn’t fit into 1pc bathing suits. Suri also looks like a tall girl, so I understand wearing a 2pc. It looks age appropriate and conservative, not a string bikini.
My daughter is about to turn one and I have found it very hard to find “real”clothes for her, that is not gimmicky and cheaply made, plus none of it is really warm for winter! I finally found some great stuff at Goodwill. Lots of older, sturdy, charming baby clothes.
I dress my girls in Gymboree until they turn about 10. Their clothing is appropriate and they always have 20% coupons available to make it affordable. Carter’s is another good brand until they are seven. Higher end but very cute are Hanna Anderson and Mini Boden. My oldest is almost 12. Lucky for me, she like athletic brands like Under Armour.
Gymboree is SUCH a life saver. When my daughter transitioned from dresses to leggings — she would only wear this for awhile. I loved how not-trashy the clothes were.
I like to see that Suri is with a friend in one pic. I hate to think of her isolated with no kids her own age around. I love Katie’s pink bikini.
Other sites show that Katie is here with her business partner and her daughter there’s a pic of Suri with her but that doesn’t get posted go figure.
Poor Suri now eats “simple folk” burgers. No more Kobe beef burger on a slightly toasted brioche with just a drop of truffle oil. No wonder she looks pissed.
