Tori Spelling confirms 90210 reboot, was anyone asking for this?

toriheader
The original Beverly Hills, 90210 went on long past its expiration date. I distinctly remember seeing the farewell episode in the year 2000 and thinking “my God is this show still on?” (My friend insisted on watching it when I was over her place or I never would have noticed.) That wasn’t even the end of that stupid show after 10 years. There was already a reboot from 2008 to 2013 on The CW called just 90210 featuring new cast including Shenae Grimes, Jessica Stroup and AnnaLynne McCord, with appearances by the original cast. Well now yet another reboot is happening. Tori Spelling confirmed that a reboot is happening featuring the original cast.

Tori Spelling, who starred in the original ’90s series, confirmed the exciting news on Access on Friday, when she said, “did I just confirm something that wasn’t known?”

“We were having coffee in between meetings with networks,” Spelling, 45, explained about a recent paparazzi photo of the cast. “It’s confirmed. We’re doing a new 90210.”

She explained that the reboot, if picked up by a network, will bring “the OG crew back together and we’re playing heightened versions of ourselves. The fans will be pleasantly surprised, though, because we will intercut that with scenes from the show. So it’ll be a whole ensemble cast playing a heightened version of themselves. Almost everybody.”

While the majority of the cast will be returning for the revival, Luke Perry (Dylan McKay) “will do as many [episodes] as he can do,” according to Spelling, as he currently stars on Riverdale.

“But almost the whole original cast,” said Spelling.

As for Shannen Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh, the cast “would love to have her on,” said Spelling, though there “is no status right now. But if she’s watching, we would love to have you do it.”

We want reboots of these shows no one loved like we want pancakes reheated in the microwave a week after they’re made. Of course the cast wants a revival because Sharknado is ending and they need some dough. Does this mean that Tori is going to pay her creditors? Doubtful, but you can see the visions of luxury goods behind her crazy eyes. Also, notice how Tori is trying to get Shannen Doherty interested. Remember how Tori claimed in her book that Shannen and Jennie Garth got in a fist fight on set and then Shannen and Jennie denied that? Shannen had some words for Tori, saying, “a vast majority of it is incredibly exaggerated” and “In 27 years of acting I’ve never sold out one of my cast members.” So I bet Shannen is wisely staying away from this mess.

If this is really happening, why is Tori the one telling the press about it and why are there no Instagram photos with Tori and Jennie? (Tori and Ian Ziering did bring their families together a couple of weeks ago.)

I’ve heard that Tori was on The Masked Singer and that she was decent on that, but as I mentioned yesterday I don’t watch that. Maybe I will start though.

Here’s the interview. Tori acted like the paparazzi just happened to catch them out after the meeting. Also she said that Adam Levine performed at the Peach Pit 20 years ago. That seems fitting.

    NO …….!!!

    • Erinn says:

The more important question – how much more debt will she throw herself into once she starts making a regular pay again?

    • Giddy says:

No, no, no! A re-boot of 90210 is like another SATC movie: not needed, not wanted, please don’t! Y

  2. Darla says:

Well, as a 90s girl, honestly this was a fav of mine back in the day. When they did the 2008 so-called reboot, I thought they should have just done it with the original cast then. Now? I think it’s pretty late for this, and it won’t do well.

    • Steff says:

The first reboot was painfully cringey. Some of the old cast were apart of it and it felt so wrong.

  3. Morrissey says:

Tori and Ian are in business together. Or at least they were – the “curated” beauty business. Ian’s wife and Tori regularly hang out, I believe.
I keep wanting to wish Tori well, but she’s just such a heada$$.

    • Clare says:

Can’t even bring myself to wish her well any more. She has had SO many changes. SO much privilege. And yet she keeps cocking it up.

  4. greenmonster says:

I’m in a bad mood today so I won’t be polite. No-one is interested in seeing sourpuss faces Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling in anything ever again. No-one was ever interested in seeing Brian Austin Green or Ian Ziering.

Since I loooooove Tiffani Thiessen – I hope she stays far away from this mess. As much as I’m concerned I want her to cook something delicious and invite Shannon Doherty over for dinner so they can trash this reboot together.

    • Darla says:

Personally I would be more likely to watch if Val was back. But I guess they have a hateon for Thiessen for some reason.

    • Celebitchy says:

Tori and Jennie have some kind of long standing beef with Tiffani, with Tori and Jennie mean-girling her. I doubt that Tiffani will do it. http://ow.ly/ojPR30nBeXH

      • greenmonster says:

Thank you @Celebitchy 🙂 That’s exactly why I hope she isn’t going to do this, but I do think she has better things going on.

      • Darla says:

Oh wow, thanks for the link. I never saw that. So no Val then. Well, she was the best of the three, so their loss.

      • ravynrobyn says:

Whoa, had no idea. Thanks for the link, CB.
Team Tiff, I love her cooking show.

    • Sun in Libra says:

I agree with everything you’ve said. Thiessen and Doherty are too good for this garbage and have other things going on. I hope they stay away from this because I predict a a dumpster fire no one asked for.

Tori’s face is frightening, Jenni Garth comes off like a frigid spiteful bish and BAG and Ian Z, ew no. These are the worst cast members. The pic of Tori and the family here, I’m sorry but they look inbred. Something is not right with her family photos.

  5. Clare says:

Ok – since you mentioned it Celebitchy – someone explained The Masked Singer to me.
I was in the US 2 weeks ago and watched this in my hotel room – mind blown. I actually asked my husband if I may be ON something.

It just did not computer. But I couldn’t stop watching.

Also – who thought it was a good idea of have Jenni McCarthy as a judge for ANYTHING? And Robin Thicke? What?

    That whole show….please someone…explain.

    • Americano says:

It’s originally a popular Korean show that Fox bought the license for. Maybe that explains it a bit. East Asians can get a bit crazy with their TV programs.

I was a devoted watcher of 90210 in HS in the nineties,we couldn’t wait for Thursday nights and watched Melrose Place after. It was good for a short while.Who of any nineties children who are now in or approaching middle age would want to watch this or have the time? Not I!
Tori is just so out of touch I kind of feel sorry for her, almost.

    • Darla says:

Oh yeah me too!! I don’t remember which night honestly, but at one point I was having Melrose viewing parties in my apartment with a bunch of fellow 20 somethings. You brought me back with this post.

    • Nev says:

      Word!!!
Loved 90210 and Melrose Place back then.
      Good times!!!’

  8. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Isn’t this the only thing she CAN reboot? Does she have anything beside 90210 and her bag of jumbo marshmallow family?

  9. Digital Unicorn says:

No but she needs the money and the relevancy.

  10. KG says:

Wait — so they are playing heightened versions of THEMSELVES on the show, not heightened versions of their CHARACTERS? Neither option makes sense, but that first one is truly gruesome. What?!

    • Kate says:

I really didn’t understand what she meant by that at all. What is a “heightened version” of oneself?

  11. xdanix says:

I mean… besides Tori herself… I guess her creditors, maybe? That’s about it. I can’t come up with anyone else.

  12. Mira says:

I’m trying to remember if I ever liked any reboots of any shows I’ve seen. Possibly did but can’t remember any.

  13. hezzer19 says:

Somehow I can’t picture Jason Priestley wanting any part of this either. He and Luke Perry have worked pretty steadily since the show went off the air.

Heh! Maybe they should just do a spin-off with Tori and BAG! With a cameo from Vanessa Marcil.

    I’d watch that…for 5 minutes.

  14. KBeth says:

I thought most of them hated each other?

    • Yes Doubtful says:

Why do you think that? Most of them are friends. Search the web and you’ll see plenty of pictures of the years of them hanging out.

  15. elimaeby says:

Her kids always look so miserable. I always wonder what’s going on behind closed doors at the Spelling-McDermott house.

  16. Harryg says:

Rebooting it again? There are fifty million better ideas than this.

  17. Michelle says:

The only thing I am here for is when she has to answer publicly for not paying her bills. I have a long wait…

  18. Ann says:

I am a 90210 mega fan but I’m not here for any reboot that doesn’t include Brandon, Val, or Clare. If it’s just Steve, Donna, and Kelly than it’s basically the same as the last 2 seasons, which sucked.

If they did some kind of TV movie where the Walsh twins end up with their true loves (Dylan for Brenda, Emily Valentine for Brandon) I’d be all over it.

  19. paddingtonjr says:

I enjoyed BH 90210 and Melrose Place for the first few years in the 90s. During college, my friends and I would gather in someone’s dorm room, order food and make fun of the shows. Please, let both hows remain in TV’s cheesy past and move on.

I tried watching the Masked Singer recently and just couldn’t get into it. I think they were trying to go for the fun and mindlessness of Lipsync Battle, but the hosts were trying to be too serious at the same time. And who thought Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy would be good judges?

  20. Pandy says:

I’m in my late 50s and I have to say 90210 and Melrose Place (and briefly – Models Inc.!!!!) were such faves of mine … I’d still check out the reboot! (hangs head)

  21. Anastasia says:

I had no interest in 90210 when it came out, so I def won’t watch a reboot, but I’m constantly amazed at how bad Tori looks. She’s had plastic surgery, right? And do they have six kids now or five?

  22. Izzy says:

I’m guessing her creditors have been asking…

  23. Anh says:

This comment is kinda mean but God, who woulda thought I’d be wishing to see her old face again??!! 🙄

  24. enike says:

Im just rewatching BH now 🙂
I am 40+ and still love it, its very naive, but still entertaining

I wonder what she ment by heightening themselves?

I would watch it, but they really didnt age well unfortunately, except Steve (Ian) and Val (Tiffany)

  25. serena says:

Oh please no, I used to love that show so it would suck to see its (bad) reboot.. (again). ‘Cuz let’s be real, it’s gonna sucks as most reboot do.. nope.
Also I thought Jennie and Shannen got past whatever there was between them as I saw Jennie commenting some of Shannen’s post when she got sick (to which she replied). Not so much Tori though?

  26. Ellie71 says:

    Didn’t they try this already.

  27. Velvet Elvis says:

The only show I want to see her on is Botched. Her terrible nose job, cheek implants and whatever other work she has had done have ruined the attractiveness of her face. Not to mention the big caved in area on her chest from a bad breast job. Drs Nasif and Dubrow would have a field day with her.

  28. Yes Doubtful says:

I loved the original, but does anyone want to see a Brenda/Dylan/Kelly triangle 25 years later? I’m worried about how involved Tori will be with the process. She is a terrible actress and comedian. The show she produced a couple years ago with Jennie was god awful. Jennie tried her best with the material she was given, but even she couldn’t save it.
