Bruce Springsteen will be on the next plane to Australia ‘if Trump is reelected’

Bruce Springsteen at arrivals for VERY R...

Bruce Springsteen has some stuff to say about Donald Trump. I remembered that he said some political stuff around the 2016 election too, so I went through our archives to find it. He endorsed Hillary Clinton but he only made one campaign appearance for her. And there’s this too… remember when, just after Trump was fake-elected, there were all of these celebrities and intellectuals coming out to say “give him a chance” or “not all Trump supporters are awful people”? Yeah. Bruce was one of those. In a January 2017 Marc Maron interview, Bruce said: “There’s plenty of good, solid folks that voted for Donald Trump…” Which is false. But going through that interview, it reads more like Springsteen was just trying to make sense of how millions of Americans got hoodwinked by the dumbest and most racist con artist out there. That’s something we’re still grappling with, as a society. Even years from now, we’ll still be grappling with it. But if Trump gets reelected, Springsteen isn’t going to stick around.

He was “Born in the U.S.A.,” but Bruce Springsteen says if President Trump wins another term in office, he’ll be “on the next plane” to Australia. The “Born to Run” singer predicted in a Thursday interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph that Trump wouldn’t win his reelection bid come Nov. 3. But, the New Jersey native said, if Trump does win the White House again, he’ll say sayonara to the U.S.

“If Trump is reelected — which he will not be; I’m predicting right now he’s gonna lose — if by some happenstance he should be, I’ll see you on the next plane,” Springsteen told the tabloid.

Springsteen’s forecast of a Trump loss differed from his 2018 remarks when he said in an interview that “Democrats don’t have an obvious, effective presidential candidate.”

The 71-year-old musician and longtime Democrat has been a regular critic of Trump. In June, he slammed the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, saying the president should “put on a f—— mask.” Last year, Springsteen said Trump “doesn’t have a clue” what the responsibilities of the presidency mean.

Moving to Australia would be a dream. Tommy Lee promised he would move to Greece (where he was born) if Trump wins again. I know I should be making better plans in case of an orange emergency, but mostly I think if Trump wins, America as we know it is completely over, and there’s nothing worth saving. A life in exile… well, we can hope that some countries will take us in.

I love ya Bruce, but we already heard this story from all the celebrities who said they would leave if he won in 2016 and are [checks notes] still here.

    • MissMarierose says:

Yeah, and I find it kinda insulting.

Millions of us have no choice. We don’t have the money or connections to uproot our whole lives to move to another country. We have to live through this, while the privileged get to put their money and their families elsewhere.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

Is it insulting, or rather, lucky them? If you were in a position to pick up and move elsewhere if the worse happens, wouldn’t you? I know a lot of regular folks who are making plans and have actually been going through the process of immigrating should the worse happens. One lady at my job is in a position to accept early retirement and move back to Canada, lucky her, I say. Someone else who is retired and returned part time, is returning to Guyana where she was born. She’s not rich, just regular lady, but still, lucky her. We can’t blame those who can do it, just make the best plans for ourselves, I know I am.

HOW many said they were going to do this in 2016? And yet…they’re still here. Hey Bruce, work to make it BETTER instead of letting your tax break increased wealth to run away.

SO tired of these Prima Donna actors and musicians. (And I say this a a Bruce fan for almost 40 yrs!)

  3. CoffeeChamp says:

I love Bruce and I feel he’s just one of the good guys trying to do good. I do believe that the original crop of Trump voters were more so for the “Brand” of Trump and the other stuff didn’t matter bc it didn’t affect them. In 2020, the good ones know and will do better. No excuses, just an observation.

I don’t think people got conned. I think people voted for white supremacy over anything and everything else, including human decency.

It hurts my heart to read your comment because I know it’s the truth.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Yep, this. When people like Tom Hanks and John Stewart came out in 2016 and said. “give him a chance, it might be ok” – Hanks. “I know a lot of good people who voted for him because they are business owners who are worried about taxes” – Stewart. I called fowl then, but they really believed that nonsense and I had to give up my Stewart fandom because I was so disappointed in him especially who knew better.

    • Anna says:

      Exactly @Ariel x1000000000

  5. Melissai says:

I grew up on Bruce’s music and certain songs will instantly take me back to parts of my childhood. But it is some kinda white privilege to say you’ll move out of the US based on election results.

  6. Teebee says:

I think it’s fair to say that the US of 2016, even 2018, is different to today. And anyone with any optimism or a “reach across the aisle” attitude back then might look stupid and naive today, but things are absolutely dire now. So, it is good to be wary that Trump might steal the election, and also be prepared to do whatever it takes to make it through another Trump presidency, if the worst case scenario comes to fruition. And if I were living in the US on November 4, faced with a Trump win, you bet I’d be wondering if I could continue to live in the country.

But I live in Canada. So all I can do is send all of my hope from the depth of my being that Biden/Harris prevail. And that the US begins to heal. And that we can embrace our fellow North Americans again. Literally, emotionally, politically and sincerely.

  7. Milkweed says:

I could totally move to Australia, I’ve visited and it’s lovely, but they have systemic racism and mad wildfires too.

    • twoz says:

And unfortunately we also have Scummo who is trying to be Trump-lite and a Murdoch dominated media. Alas my country…

      • Bee says:

Ain’t that the truth, twoz. I’m currently living in the US and wondering what I’ll be coming back to. Also, I guess he can buy his way in, but for many it’s far from easy.

  8. Janice Gerow says:

So, Australia is a little far away Bruce. Come to Canada! We’ll appreciate you here.

    • fishface says:

…and actually Bruce, we have Trump-lite here. If you want to live in a great place, try New Zealand.

  9. rottenflower says:

I’ve actively researched moving to new zealand if he gets reelected (which I sadly don’t think is too far out of the realm of possibility). nz is a pipe dream but… sometimes, a dream is all we have to hold on to.

  10. FloraDora says:

Australia’s borders are currently closed to anyone not ‘Australian’, and even residents are finding it difficult to make it home. Sorry Bruce 🙁

  11. Ox says:

He absolutely should move regardless of elections! We’d drink beers in a local pub and listen to him lazily musing on his guitar 😆😆

  12. Kelly says:

    Yay! Please leave has been!!
