Jennifer Garner may be wearing an engagement ring in an Instagram video

JenniferGarnerEngagementRing
Jennifer Garner did an Instagram video talk with her friend Judy Greer. It’s 25 minutes long and honestly I did not watch the whole thing, but you can see it below. They talked about their drinking habits during the pandemic, with Garner saying that she noticed she was drinking about a half glass of wine a night and maybe two on the weekends. Both Garner and Greer said that they are careful about how much they drink and have able to go without booze for week. They did not sound like they have issues with alcohol at all, but it’s good that they’re conscientious about it. I’ve been sober five years and I would not need to abstain entirely if I could have a half drink a night or just two on a weekend night. I was never able to do that.

Garner is getting the most headlines for wearing what looks like an engagement ring on her left ring finger. She was drinking tea from a mug. It looked like she wanted everyone to see her ring and talk about it. If so, this was a cute way to make the announcement! It’s a pretty three stone gold pearl ring and it’s unique and understated. It looks like it could be an antique ring, maybe something that’s been in her boyfriend’s family.

If Garner is engaged, congratulations! She’s been back together with John Miller since April of this year. They were previously together from about the fall of 2018 until the summer of 2020. US reported at the time of their split than Miller wanted to get married but that Garner wasn’t ready yet. The last we heard about them they were planning to introduce their kids to each other. Did he propose and did she accept? So far we don’t have any official word, so we’ll have to see. She hasn’t denied the rumors yet either.

This photo is from yesterday and she’s not wearing the ring out.

However on Wednesday she was wearing it on her middle finger. I bet it’s an heirloom ring and it’s too big for her!

    That mug is gorgeous!

After getting through my binge drinking phase (in my 20’s) I realized that I actually do not really enjoy the taste of alcohol, of any kind…and I am allergic to hops. I always find it interesting that so many people actually enjoy alcohol & my brain just isn’t having it.

    And Judy Greer is awesome

    • I'm With The Band says:

Yup, same here. After one too many hangovers in my 20s, I just didn’t care to drink anymore. I’ve never particularly liked the taste of most alcohol, and really only drank to get drunk. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink in about 5 years, and not because I ever had a drinking problem (I didn’t), but because I hate the taste and the hangovers.

It’s also quite astounding how uncomfortable some people are around non-drinkers, and it’s disturbing the sheer number of people who can’t fathom that I can have a great time at a party without alcohol. It really is a social lubricant. I don’t miss it one bit.

      • smcollins says:

I’m right there with you. I partied A LOT in my 20’s progressing to the point of not caring about anyone else’s fun, only my own. I stopped all that by the time I turned 30 and only have the occasional glass of wine now. I don’t miss it at all and cringe when thinking back at some of the stupid shit I did and said while drinking.

      • Sarah says:

It is sad to see how uncomfortable people are around non-drinkers. My husband quit drinking in 2019 and we stopped getting invited to parties (COVID obviously contributed somewhat to the number of parties in 2020/21). One of his close friends also stopped hanging out with him.

      • PixiePaperdoll says:

        @I’m With The Band
I have been sober around a bunch of not sober people and they’re annoying! If I’m hanging out with them, I want to be drinking too. (Or, if I’m driving, just let me read a book in the back room.)

    • milliemollie says:

Yes, alcohol tastes horrible! Never liked the taste of it, no matter what kind of beverage it was.

  3. Lucy2 says:

It’s probably just a random ring?
I’m surprised they’ve been together that long without introducing their kids. Her ex-husband doesn’t seem so cautious…

  4. minx says:

I don’t think she’s engaged. I also don’t think she’s above playing that kind of ring guessing game. I mean, come on! So obvious.

  5. Mcmmom says:

I stopped drinking in Jan because my Covid drinking was getting excessive. My skin looks better than ever and I lost 15 lbs (for other reasons, too, but the lack of alcohol helped) and I got better at confronting my stress (vs grabbing a glass of wine), so I’m not going back to drinking.

  6. fubar says:

    she is exhausting

  7. Tiffany says:

Naw. Jen likes to plan the humble Mom but I remember her engagement, push and ‘I messed up’ rocks she got from Ben.

If an engagement is coming it is gonna be a doorknob.

    • Lena says:

She usually just wore a simple band when she was married. She only took out her rock when she was at premieres etc. Since her divorce she has rarely worn rings at all and not on her ring finger so this WAS different. I think
this is her way of making an announcement which I prefer over a cringe re-creation of a proposal on Instagram, sue me.

      • Tiffany says:

There is nothing but pap pics that says otherwise.

There was a website at one point dedicated to her jewelry and purse collection.

  8. Twin falls says:

I think you can get even an heirloom ring re-sized so it doesn’t have to be worn on the middle finger so I’m going with not an engagement ring.

    • Jan90067 says:

Of course you can. If you are adamant about it not being altered, there are always ring guards that you can put inside the band so that it fits your finger. I did that for my grandmother’s wedding band (a filigreed, thin rose gold band).

I didn’t find it “uncomfortable”, but I did hate that things got “into” that space between the spacer and the band, so I now only wear it between my two eternity bands, or as a thumb ring (so it doesn’t fall off).

  9. Kcat says:

Looks like a mirror image and it’s a right hand ring.

  10. Mia4s says:

    Round three huh? 😬

What is wrong with just dating and being happy? Especially when you’re almost 50, have 3 still minor kids, and are already twice divorced…the most divorce being barely 3 years ago. Chill, FFS.

    • MsIam says:

Jen G and Ben split up six years ago so I don’t see where she’s rushing. She didn’t even start dating this guy until the divorce was final three years ago. I think its the other Jen who can’t seem to be without a man.

      • Lena says:

Agree, if she is she isn’t rushing anything. Ben on the other hand has had five women so far to her one. He’s the one I’d side eye if he got engaged.

      • a0 says:

“Five women” He was in a relationship with Lindsay, Ana and JLo. Seems silly to count people he hooked up with a few times.

      • Lena says:

Okay A0 three relationships to one. Can you now imagine if it was Jen who had three men in three years and two that she had “casually dated” making five altogether? People wouldn’t be able to shut up about it.

      • a0 says:

He’s seriously dated 3 people in six years. Not a big deal. Countless female celebrities have that hitting rate without any fuss.

  11. Mindy_Dopple says:

I’m going to echo what some of the room here, I also did a lot of drinking during quarantine – especially with facetime dates with my friends. I was recently pregnant and found that I didn’t and still don’t miss drinking. I didn’t like the feeling I got after two drinks. I was incredibly sleepy and flushed. Luckily, medical & recreational cannabis is available in MA and that’s what I do most often now. Drinking is overrated to me now.

  12. Laurs says:

Anyone think he looks a little like Michael Vartan?

    • JJ says:

I can never not see Michael Vartan!!

Side note, that ring is pretty.

    • AmelieOriginal says:

Yup he is Michael Vartan’s long lost brother! I kind of wished they got back together, they had great chemistry on Alias.

  13. Piratewench says:

I think a lot of women have fingers that change size throughout the day. I know I’m always changing my rings around. If I eat too much salt and forget to hydrate then forget it, rings are all coming off.
It’s not a great way to tell what’s going on in someone’s life. I’m happily married but ringless about a third of the time. Jennifer may just be wearing rings and moving rings around her fingers for comfort and nothing more.

  14. TQ says:

Still can’t get over how much he looks like her ex Michael Vartan.

And maybe Bennifer 2.0 pushed her into finally accepting his proposal?

  15. DaphneOG says:

Agree it’s an heirloom and not a new ring! This hit home with me. I’ve tried extended periods dry since Covid started and where I’ve landed is having 1-2 drinks thoughtfully but rarely. Jennifer said she had to draw some boundaries because we drink too much and for everything as a culture. I’m so much happier and healthier drinking tea. I went to a concert Saturday and has orange juice with club soda. It was RADICAL.

  16. Lena says:

After listening to the Instagram, although she only drinks one glass a night & on weekend nights a couple of glasses I can see why she got concerned enough to stop. There was a period in my life when my kids were young I would have one beer in the evening. Then something happened and I couldn’t have one I felt antsy and irritated.I figured that was pretty much a sign of dependency & stopped with the daily even though I wasn’t getting drunk ever.

  17. CJ says:

In the video she wonders what do you say if people ask about your drinking. Her kids dad is sober so the kids are hyper aware that drinking can be a problem. So her kids might be asking why she drinks every night. That’s a pretty typical concern of children come from an alcoholic family.

  18. iconoclast59 says:

I think the video is a reverse projection:

    1. Normally people wear wristwatches on their non-dominant hand. Jennifer’s right-handed.
    2. Women’s shirts, vests, etc. have the buttons on the left side of the garment.

In the video, we see Jennifer’s watch and vest button on the left side of the screen; which, in a normal projection, would mean her right side. But in a reverse projection, it’s her left side. She’s wearing the ring on her right hand.

  19. Poppy says:

That ring is pretty, but pearls are a poor choice for an engagement ring and I’m speaking from experience! My husband proposed with an antique emerald-and-pearl ring because I told him I’m not a big fan of diamonds. Well the ring was GORGEOUS and I still love it, but within a few years the pearls had worn down and then fell out. I had them replaced and the same thing happened again. Pearls are soft; they’re not good for an everyday ring because they can’t hold up to the wear-and-tear. The emerald got scratched up too. For our fifteenth anniversary I got a diamond band to wear everyday, and my engagement ring now only comes out for special occasions. Diamonds still aren’t my favorite visually but I have definitely learned to respect their toughness! The stone for a ring that will be worn everyday needs to be something high on the hardness scale. Don’t go any softer than a ruby, Jennifer!

    • Lila says:

Agreed! One of my close friends got engaged with a large pearl set in a halo of diamonds. She lost the pearl three times before giving up a replacing the ring. It was set with essentially a corkscrew with glue on it. It just wasn’t set up at all for daily wear.

I do have a pearl ring with small seed pearls that holds up well. But it has metal on all sides, and the small pearls are essentially inset. I’m positive it’d be in rough shape if they weren’t so sheltered.

    • minx says:

Yes, pearls are not a sturdy choice for any ring, engagement or not. Necklaces, fine. Earrings, I guess. Even bracelets with pearls can be iffy.

  20. Hillbo Baggins says:

It’s mirrored – that’s her right hand I’m pretty sure.

  21. a0 says:

Doubt she’d wear an engagement ring before getting married. She seems all about keeping it private this time around so why would she want to deal with the speculation that comes with a public engagement?

    • Marietta2381 says:

Because she loves it when people speculate about her… If she didn’t want anyone to know anything about her bf then they wouldn’t. She has always had an amazing PR game.

That’s why she’s been spotted with it a couple of times, I think the 1st was on a walk with her Manager Nicole in NYC. 1 pic had it and then she covered it with her mask immediately. Despite what people think, she loves to be talked about. She would not have worn it in the video or in public if she didn’t.

    • minx says:

Keeping it private? Her people have been floating stories about her and this John Miller for ages. I think she and her people were trying to create more interest about the relationship but Miller isn’t well known and I don’t think many people care.

  22. jferber says:

I think many people would be relieved when she totally chucks the doormat vibe, marries a hot guy and has more of an equal custody relationship with her ex. It seems she has them full-time, which is not fair to her or the kids. She not only does the heavy lifting, she does ALL the lifting. And Ben needs the training in responsibility he never got. Let those kids hang off his tits 24/7. That would make a man out of him.

    • Lena says:

Amen. People coo over what a great dad! because he takes them out to lunch once a week. Jeez…if it only was so easy as it is for Disneyland divorced dads.

    • Al says:

They have joint physical custody. 3.5 days each. Since when does he just take them for a weekly lunch?! Jennifer has even talked about getting comfortable about being home alone without them.

  23. Joey says:

“She noticed she was drinking half a glass of wine a night and maybe 2 on the weekend” 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 STOP. It’s ok if you have a glass of wine on weekdays and however many you want on weekends. Saying you only drink half a glass of wine on a weekday and make it sound like it’s “excessive” is so lame. Also, the more posts I see from her the more I realize she is cut from the same celebrity cloth, she just brands it differently. While Ben and Jlo are upfront about how they love the limelight Jen Garner plays it subtly but at the end of the day they all LOVE the attention. They are all annoying.
