Jones: The Waleses want all of the privileges but none of the work or scrutiny

Remember one month ago, when I thought the fun royal story of the summer was going to be “the Sussexes’ reps met with King Charles’s PR guru in London?” Good times. Since then, it’s been nonstop drama from the Prince and Princess of Wales, the latest of which was their announcement that they are in dire need of an isolated and grand emotional-support mansion on the Windsor estate. The royalist press, always restless in the summer months, has not reacted well to the news of a move to Forest Lodge. The Times of London even came close to letting the cat out of the bag that Forest Lodge is likely Kate’s new separation home. Meanwhile, the Mail was the outlet revealing that Will and Kate evicted two families from the cottages on Forest Lodge’s estate. The Mail’s columnists have also been having a field day. Amanda Platell excoriated the Waleses in a Tuesday column, and now it’s Liz Jones’s turn: “Careful, William… I’ve always supported you but now your behaviour’s left me cold and I’m not alone.” Some highlights from another fun piece:

The Wales family vacations too much: We’ve all got the message: the three children of William and Kate lead lives of wholesome, old-fashioned, Enid Blyton ordinariness. When not tagging along at state occasions, George, 12, Charlotte, ten, and Louis, seven, are frolicking in East Anglian haystacks and having swordfights with twigs. Oh, and cruising round the Greek Islands aboard a superyacht. The Waleses’ recent Mediterranean sojourn is just one of the four or five vacations – at least – they’ve taken so far this year. Shame there was no time for the Prince and Princess of Wales to attend last week’s VJ Day ceremonies. William, remember, will be head of the Armed Forces in the not-too-distant future. Yet, all the couple did to mark the moment – the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War – was post a message on social media.

Remember how they skipped the BAFTAs? True, William broke off from his Greek holibobs, accompanied by Charlotte, to cheer on the Lionesses in the final of the Euros. He is president of the Football Association, after all. But it was bad luck for the Bafta awards earlier in the year. William is Bafta president and would surely have been expected to grace its biggest, glitziest night of the year. But a February jolly to the Caribbean island of Mustique meant the Waleses missed the annual ceremony. Maybe they got wind Tom Cruise was a no-show.

Well well: It all raises this rather awkward question: are the Waleses taking the piste? (They were on the slopes last winter, of course, and again at Easter.) It seems to some of us that William and Kate want the privileges of their position – the onboard chef, the freedom of never having to take out a mortgage or apply for a Capital One card – but not the tedium the job so often entails, or the scrutiny.

William refuses to move into Buckingham Palace: King Charles and Camilla have chosen not to live at Buck House, either. Their excuse is it’s currently undergoing a £369million renovation. Dear God! King George VI and his family didn’t budge when it was being bombed! But at least the King and Queen live close by. Their London home, Clarence House, is just a short walk from the palace and is used for official visits and receptions. William and Kate, once in their new digs at the end of a long, private road? The doors will be firmly shut…. Queen Elizabeth and the family moved into a home they disliked. Because that was her job. That was the deal.

Work-shy Waleses: Of course, I have some sympathy for Kate. She has undergone major surgery. She is in remission from cancer. But the Waleses, both 43, are still young. Up until June in 2025, William had performed 71 engagements, Kate nine. They conducted 22 jointly. Yet King Charles, who is 76, carried out 233 engagements in the same period even though he, too, has been having cancer treatment. Charles and Camilla were even shipped off on an exhausting official visit to Australia last year. My goodness, the Gloucesters, in their 70s and 80s, managed to visit Norwich and Suffolk on the same day! Kate and William tend to stick closer to home.

Kate’s balanced life: Kate prioritised being at home with Prince George and Princess Charlotte when they were very young. The late Queen Elizabeth went back to work weeks after giving birth, as do many women in this country. She undertook 201 official engagements at the age of 96. One leading commentator suggested recently that Kate is ‘at that age where you start to see clearly the difference between duty and loyalty and pointless b******s’ foisted on you in the name of good form, etiquette and keeping other people happy. She will care less and care more about having a balanced life.’ If that is true, it does not augur well.

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s actually sort of amazing that at least someone at the Mail is willing to point out all of the vacations taken by William and Kate this year. I don’t even think this is a full accounting of the vacations, but it’s a good start. Multiple ski holidays, the trip to Mustique during the BAFTAs, skipping VJ Day for no reason, the Greek vacation on a yacht. Insane. Here’s my question: at some point, will there be an acknowledgement that some kind of deal was struck in 2024? It wasn’t just a deal between William and Kate, it involved King Charles and the Middletons too. There’s been a pretty obvious deal which ensured certain things for Kate, including the fact that she’ll barely work anymore. The media was adhering to the deal for much of the past year… but something about the Forest Lodge news has changed things.

And the VJ Day absence changed things too. The gloves are off, heehee.

    • Harla says:

And the announcement of their 6th (?) new home, hot on the heels of snubbing “the Greatest Generation”, just made it worse. KP has absolutely no sense of optics, or anything else really.

      • jais says:

Not only do they not have a sense of optics but their pr comes across as somewhat offensive to just like basic people.

    • Yes the gloves are off and the knives are out. I said yesterday that the flood gates were leaking and that it wouldn’t be long before the gates opened to let all out what it was keeping in and here we go. Hope Peg has a life vest because it could get really deep.

      • Blogger says:

You reap what you sow, and the Lazies are drowning in their self-inflicted incompetence.

    • Krista says:

Agreed. As long as Will did some work, at minimum the big events, they would’ve left him alone.
Williams ego and jealousy are his downfall and blaming Harry for his problems is an aged, tiresome and stale excuse. Karma.

      • LeaTheFrench says:

I agree, the VJ Day absence did not go down well. For me this looked like the turning point. it reminds me a bit of the outrage when Rishi Sunak left the D-Day commemorations early. He was also roasted for that.

      • H.W. says:

I think William doesn’t want the top job, when the time comes, yet too coward to abdicate, so he’s doing his best for people to revolt and end the whole thing.

  2. Chloe says:

Enjoy this wind of honest and fair reporting from the daily mail while it lasts folks because coming August 26th we all know it will change again lol.

    • SussexWatcher says:

I feel the same. This won’t last and they’ll be back to applauding Kate for sitting at a desk with fake books and a pie chart in no time.

    • Polo says:

Yup next Tuesday it will be back to meghan hate 24/7.
Either that or Kate and the kids appearing at rugby/balmoral this weekend then all will be well again…smh

      • Chloe says:

@polo: The day that S2 drops, kate (and maybe even the kids) will all of a sudden have a “surprise” visit somewhere very important. (Even though the camera’s will be stationed accordingly and reporters will be invited) And then the press will be back to writing about how what a beautiful English white rose kate is compared to “money hungry” Meghan.

We can all see it coming right?

      • jais says:

Okay, I’m gonna predict a picture of all the cousins at balmoral or something. So they can say Meghan just wants to make money while Harry just wants to be in Balmoral and see how Archie and Lili are missing out.

    • Startup Spouse says:

If the RR really want to stick it to KP, they will give WLM season 2 good reviews.

    • Blogger says:

But the Lazies surely will take another holiday…can’t be long now…

  3. ThatGirlThere says:

    Left Behinders Remorse!

They see that Kate and Will are lazy, selfish and even try to use their children as a shield for some of their behavior. They may be pocket watching the Sussexes but they see how Meg and Harry move — the Disney trips with their babies, the beach days so Archie can learn to surf. Pretty wholesome, low key and genuine.

The rota helped create this mess along with KKKate, Pegs, Chuckles and Cowmilla now they can lay in it.

  4. Brassy Rebel says:

The British media is showing some spine here with the daily dragging of the lazy Waleses. We can only hope it continues. On the other hand, I would like to see William blow up the monarchy when he becomes king. If they make him behave (their obvious goal), that might not happen.

    • Gabby says:

      Good point.

William is about to prove that the UK doesn’t need the monarchy. He won’t do any of his royal duties, and yet the country will not crumble to its knees. The grown-ups are actually running things.

      • Smart&Messy says:

Right? In this day and age, the whole protecting the heir at all costs (literally and figuratively) sounds stupid. They can’t fly on the same plane and shit. Do they have any special skill or knowledge that has to be so fiercely protected? Don’t think so. Reading the red box, reading “official papers”. Does anyone ever ask them what they actually read about? Plus I’m sure sir Kier and David Lammy can handle diplomacy just fine. Exhibit number 56463.: Lammy was hosting Vance and family in his residence, taking him fishing and stuff. The photos looked like something William should be doing, but is not capable, not trusted to do.

  5. Dee(2) says:

I’m always a little conflicted with articles like this. Yes, it’s great that they get called out. Especially when they acknowledge stuff that we all say like the fact that the Wales’ have taken at least five vacations this year and it’s August. But then it also frustrates me, because you clearly are seeing the exact same stuff that we see but would rather your focus be on how quickly Meghan restocks her private business products or if Harry is going to a friend’s wedding.

I’m not saying that they just completely do a 180 and their unreasonable nitpicking get turned on William and Kate (even though they do way more for justifiable criticism), but a little honesty wouldn’t be terrible. Even in this article they have to try and explain why their obvious laziness and disinterest in their roles is somewhat understandable, because they’ve experienced stuff that millions of other people have experienced and still have to go to work. I just don’t have any faith that this will be long-term. These same sort of articles came out after the Caribbean tour, and then it was back to the sycophantic butt kissing. 10 critical stories after 200 hagiographies just isn’t enough

    • bisynaptic says:

The tabloids have a fine line to walk, between upholding the monarchy (in the interests of their owners) and bringing the royals to heel (in the interests of their readers).

  6. SussexWatcher says:

I’m sure the press will pivot on a dime (and be back to fawning and ass kissing them) but it’s about damn time they started talking about the truth that’s been staring them in the face this entire time. William and Kate are lazy, greedy, entitled, and horrible at their “jobs.”

    🍿

  7. Tessa says:

The media, need to keep at this. Every day
Keen could not have been all that sick if she could go skiing . And so much for the familt being normal and grounded.

    • Khg says:

I think the wales’ messed up. The M&H hate and recycled stories aren’t selling or getting the clicks they once did. Positive press around as ever and them looking dumb around the Netflix deal is also hurting them. They need clicks and they know if they could expose W&K papers would sell, clicks would be huge. I give it 3 more months and then they will need the money.

  8. Inge says:

Wow surely this (sadly) wont last but good to see the gloves are coming off a bit.

Might this also be because they see the Sussexes working, visiting charities, having wreaths laid etc..

  9. Ami says:

I REALLY dislike this narrative about Dolittle; “the difference between duty and loyalty and pointless b******s’ foisted on you.” Then find something that does mean something to do you and DO IT WELL. This whole I don’t like being a fashion show and cutting ribbons doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything. They are truly the pits.

    • Jas says:

      Yes, exactly.
Not wanting to be involved in the pointless banality of so many royal engagements is not unreasonable.
But she has so much she could do. She’s got all the time and money and access in the world and could make good use of being royal. Others have managed it – there’s the King’s Trust, or Invictus to use as models. She just needs to pick something she cares about and then work with experts to set up an organisation to fund things.

I’d get into rewilding tracts of land and pest eradication and protecting the local wildlife. And lobbying for decarbonisation and emissions reduction.

But she doesn’t seem to care about anything or have any idea how to actually do something meaningful. And there’s obviously no one around her who can help her with this.

So instead of doing any real useful work, she behaves like an online influencer and just makes pointless videos.

      • QuiteContrary says:

Not making any excuses for Kate, but if she did any of those things, William would get angry because the Earth is his.

Wandering aimlessly around the woods is the only thing even faintly connected to the environment she can do.

Now, she could carve out her own area … instead of banalities about the arly yars, she could raise awareness about childhood trauma and hunger and abuse by convening experts on those issues and giving them the spotlight. But that would involve real work, so nah.

      • Waitwhat? says:

Part of the problem with the royal family is that the only thing they really do is a very old-fashioned form of “charity work”.

There’s nothing inherently objectionable about raising money for, say, paediatric cancer research – except that you, as the “Royal” are standing there representing a family whose net worth is estimated at $28 billion, asking other people to put their hand in their pockets just because you’re there smiling and shaking hands. That’s really quite gross and there is research that shows that having royal patrons doesn’t actually make charities any more successful.

There are other forms of hypocrisy, too: being an “environmentalist” with a carbon footprint bigger than some small countries’ is one. And, of course, the RF aren’t meant to be “political” – which is why this Early Years initiative is such a non-starter. How can you talk about early childhood development and not think about childhood poverty, substandard or insecure housing, the lack and cost of childcare, etc etc? You can’t – so the RF talk about individual actions while ignoring structural inequalities, and then they don’t even do what they tell us we should be doing.

      • Tessa says:

Peggs is so lazy he would not want Keen to do more work than he does

      • lungta says:

Jas, for Kate to start any project thatare of significance & relevance, she’d have to be curious about what’s going on in the world. She isn’t, everything is performative & surface. And she isn’t bright. Likely incapable of coming up with substantive ideas. And obviously she’s hired staff – much like herself – dimwitted & closed off to the reality of life in UK.

    • Nic919 says:

Are they suggesting that meeting with the peasants is pointless? Because they don’t exist without the support of peasants. Kate chased that position for a decade and she knew damn well what the royals did as part of the expectations in return for access to all the mansions, jewels and taxpayer funded security.

  10. Brit says:

It’s too late for the press to act like this now. They picked a side and trashed their golden geese on behalf of two lazy people who the press knew were never going to measure up or work hard. They praised these people for doing the bare minimum and the press also have buyers remorse because the Sussexes will never return, cut the tabloids off, barely return to England for visits and are living peacefully away from them. This is just them reminding them of their place but if I were William and Kate, would I take them seriously? Probably not. The press literally backed themselves into a corner. They are stuck with the Waleses and it’s making them angry.

  11. Jais says:

I do appreciate the fact that the vacations are mentioned alongside their low work numbers. Honestly, if their work amount was truly comparable to Anne’s then I’m not sure the vacations would matter as much. But that’s not the case. At all. Asking if the Wales are taking the piste was a perfect question. Pretty sure the answer is yes, yes they are.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, “taking the piste” was my favorite bit.

    • Blogger says:

Most definitely. And the public are paying for it! What a zing. How clever 🔥

    • Jaded says:

“Are the Waleses taking the piste? ” is brilliant. That’s exactly what they’re doing — taking the piss out of the mostly willing public. It’s well past time the media turned on them, guns a’blazing.

  12. The Duchess says:

It seems skipping VJ Day, holidaying on a Greek yacht and bagging a brand new home was too much for the British press to bear. It’s not like W&K hasn’t been doing this for years, it’s just that the press had Harry & Meghan to feast on. Now those stories run dry, so the tables turn. We’ll see if this sort of stuff will last, but one thing’s for sure. W&K are only heading in one direction and that’s down.

  13. Gemini says:

I really enjoy the opportunity to be able to comment on Celebitchy but I don’t understand why my comment is deleted. Anyway I’m giving it a second try. Here is the shorter version of my previous comment.

I think the move to FC broke the unspoken contract because the fake reasons given for the move was built on the other numerous lies. Keen going solo, the Middleton bankruptcy, Keen illness and the timeline of said illness, and the reasons behind the deliberate decision to not work and perform royal duties were all lies. The whole narrative is collapsing. The need for the Keens to hide the truth about what is going on in their lives is greater than the discomfort of being called lazy.

I also think the Fail was not briefed about the move to FC through the usual courtier to Becky route. They found out about it after the fact and through the good old fashioned tabloid sources. After the Fail was acting as Keen apologists through the illness and the holidays, they might have had enough.

    • ArtHistorian says:

KP actively lied to the rota – saying it was silly season. So they are really pissed. It is not just them not being briefed, they were lied to.

      • jais says:

Which to me is funny. Bc I do think the RF lies to them a lot, like a lot a lot, but this is just an instance where they were caught lying. There’s this balance where they keep certain reporters happy by making them think they’re in the know. But they’re really not. They’re getting played. And maybe those writers are okay with that or can delude themselves into thinking they’re part of some inner circle. But they are not. Harry actually talked about how much they were lying to royal reporters in Spare. So them getting mad that they were lied to this time is just funny to me. Like obviously. But something about this lie has definitely triggered them.

      • sunnyside up says:

What I find remarkably funny is the Mail is well known as one of the newspapers that tells the most untruths, and they are getting angry at KP for telling them an untruth. Oh dear……

    • Nic919 says:

I think they also lied to the Sun who was also working on this story.

This has bubbled up because last year they played nice and put out the KP narrative for Kate, ignoring a lot of things like the faked family photo.
Kate and William continued to believe they could still lie to them even though it is obvious Kate is able to do some things, like skiing and going to Wimbledon.

The arrogance of lying about the new larger house and skipping VJ Day without excuse gave the tabloid enough ammo to be critical of them. At least for now.

    • BeanieBean says:

@Gemini: this is spot on, ‘The need for the Keens to hide the truth about what is going on in their lives is greater than the discomfort of being called lazy.’

  14. Deborah1 says:

This bit ➡️ – “We’ve all got the message: the three children of William and Kate lead lives of wholesome, old-fashioned, Enid Blyton ordinariness. Shame there was no time for the Prince and Princess of Wales to attend last week’s VJ Day ceremonies.” Finally, somebody in the BM has said the quiet part out loud.

  15. Eurydice says:

I feel like the wind started changing when Harry’s people met with Charles’ and William wasn’t invited. It’s almost as if Charles picked a side or maybe just gave up on trying to get William to do anything. I won’t say Charles is behind all this or that he even approves of the BM going after William, but more that he’s just going to let William take care of himself.

    • Betsy says:

I presume that Charles wants the monarchy to continue, for real, and it’s apparent that if William gets it (which I understand he must, unless he abdicates and removes his children from the line of succession), there’s no way people are going to want the monarchy to continue. William does duck all in the line of work.

    • jais says:

I have a hard time believing Charles doesn’t take a certain amount of pleasure in seeing the Wales get roasted.

    • CherryBerry says:

I feel it started when they missed the BAFTAS, and their vacation to Mustique was leaked. It has been slowly building since.

  16. Amy Bee says:

William and Kate will be back in the press’ good graces when Meghan’s show comes out next week.

    • Betsy says:

I mean we all expect that but also the only reason that they keep bringing up Harry and Meghan is that they actually do things. They can’t very well bring up William and Kate when they don’t do anything or go anywhere (for public consumption, that is).

    • jais says:

All of the sudden we will hear about Kate is absolutely positively without question the duchess of duty while Meghan is just a no good and very bad duchess. For whatever reasons and logic they concoct.

      • sunnyside up says:

There doesn’t have to be logic, racism is all they need.

      • jais says:

But they’ll say so many different words and phrases and get money from their copy to try and make it seem like a logical argument. When really yeah…rasism, jealousy, snobbery is all the things.

  17. jais says:

One thing I’ll say. This was not the usual silly season. It’s been pretty busy actually. It’s funny that KP even cited the silly season as a way to elude the rota’s questions about a move.

  18. Monika says:

Comparing the Wales life with “Enid Blyton ordinariness”. Really?

Enid Blyton is a British children book author writing books between 1930th and 1960th. She wrote such books as “Famous Five”, “Secret Seven”, “Mallory Tower” or Saint Claire”. They depict perfect privileged, upper class, white families with a father, a stay at home mother and perfect children, their lives full of adventure and attending boarding schools which appeared to be a lot of fun. If there was bullying in the school it was under the disguise of teaching the “nasty” children lessons. The bad guys were always the others, the outsider, people from minority communities. The books have been heavily criticized for portraying sexism and racism.

I believe books need to be read in the context of the time they were written but to use this comparison to a modern life does not bode well for me. It speaks of a very privileged, sheltered life in a very white environment far away from the “normal” life Willi and Kate say they want for their children.

    • QuiteContrary says:

So, for all of those reasons you stated, even if the writer was unaware of the problems with Enid Blyton, it perfectly describes how W&K are actually raising their kids: In a privileged, sheltered, lily-white environment with a very much racist family.

    • Tuesday says:

The author is criticizing the Waleses with the Blyton remark. It’s followed by discussion of how the kids live the simple life, when not on their yacht.

      It’s acid. Poison pen.

    • lungta says:

The use of Enid Blyton is pretty spot on! I grew up on her books in a British colony. Her books were read by every English educated child during that era. Brilliant propaganda for a lily white comfortably cocooned English culture. I loved the books as a child. Until I ended up in UK & witnessed the smugness, snobbery & racism (plus their absolutely shocking ignorance about the rest of the world) in a boarding school first hand!
Those are the people who run the UK govt., institutions & corporations to this day!

  19. Angied says:

People are forgetting that these people hate and despise Harry and Meghan more than they care for Kate and William. Too many people are agreeing and loving what they are saying about WanK but the minute they pivot and turn to Meghan and Harry with their hatefest they are wrong. So many squaddies are pushing their articles and giving them tics. I can’t stand any of them whatever they say and won’t click or any of their articles because next week she will turn on Meghan. Whether its Harry and Meghan or William and Kate clicking on her articles is putting money in her pocket. They can all F off.

    • Blogger says:

Perhaps the rats will realise there’s more clicks on the Lazies who are so unprepared for their role, than focusing on the financially free couple in Montecito.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Angied, I seriously doubt that the hate filled bm articles will continue. They love to hate H&M. What is wrong about this article or others in the recent past? Is it because what’s written is pretty obvious to all and sundry? Is it because they actually have several facts included? With H&M articles, they might have 1 fact and then build their fairytale. As far as people spreading around the articles, well, when you find a unicorn the first thing you want to do is share it.

I don’t give them any clicks, because Kaiser takes one for the team and I read what she posts.

  20. Jane says:

Absolutely fascinating the dam is breaking now. It’s clear the DM caught wind that WanK were moving, they asked KP and were lied to, now they are going scorched earth.

Incredible own goal here. If WanK had just said they need a bigger space to do royal stuff and host events no one would have cared. But they aren’t doing events there. They will hide there.

The UK tabloids are SO CLOSE to printing the truth that Charles is an awful father, Diana’s death made both the boys and out, and William is furious that Harry got out and he didn’t.

Very obvious he wants no part of this job. Don’t know how much more he can do without coming out and saying it.

I thought she would be more into parading around and shaking hands but I was wrong. Diana was shy, too, but she was a natural.

    • Jaded says:

Diana worked hard at overcoming her innate shyness. The words work and hard are not in Kate’s vocabulary. Her mantra comes from Bessiewallis Warfield Simpson — “you can’t be too thin or too rich.”

  21. Lady Digby says:

Facts are facts: Chuck is elderly and on maintenance chemo but he consistently runs circles around Will in terms of work load. Gold standard is 500 royal engagements pet year set by Betty, Philip, Chuck and Anne. Will ‘s luxury lifestyle is in exchange for public service. Final straw was his decision to skive VJ day and stay on holiday after two whole months and then have it announced he felt entitled to a £16 million mansion to help him recover from a tough time! The faithful have reacted badly to this article stating a belief that he’s right to put his wife and family first now because he’ll eventually be King for years. Then they proclaim he will be a diligent and dutiful King .
I do not share their rosey view of William snapping out of his selfishness when he does become King. So far as a working member of the RF he has been a constant disappointment. He let the entire nation down on Friday by not the VJ Commemoration.

    • Bqm says:

Glad, for, the shoutout to the under appreciated Gloucesters. They were never supposed to be working royals. He was a younger son and trained architect when he married. Then his brother died and his father not long after. And the Danish born Brigitte is the true “never put a foot wrong” married in. They lead a scandal free life as do their kids. And they’re still out there working, sometimes the born-in-the-1940s Duke even beats out William.

      • Deborah1 says:

The Gloucesters attended the VJ80 commemoration service at Norwich Cathedral. Norwich is in the county of Norfolk and so is Amner Hall. *if* W&K were spending part of their summer holidays at Amner as they usually do, then why couldn’t they have attended the service at Norwich Cathedral instead of the elderly Duke and Duchess of Gloucester? Presumably they were still sailing around the Mediterranean on some Emirati billionaire’s yacht. Or, perhaps they were checking out their new abode of Forest Lodge and choosing furniture? Either way, their non-attendance at the VJ80 commemorations was nothing short of disgraceful.

      • Myself says:

Birgitte is my favorite! She has an astonishingly good jewel collection and wears it all exceedingly well. Far better with tiaras than useless of Wales…

      • sunnyside up says:

It’s brilliant the way the Gloucesters keep turning out at their age. So unfair of WanK to let them do all the work.

    • Deborah1 says:

The comments on Liz Jones’s article in the Fail were disappointing but how many of them are bots, I wonder? Platell’s article the previous day had more realistic comments. The points made in Jones’s article made me wonder if she had been reading this blog 😁. My own view is that Bulliam will not change once he becomes king. Recently both Anne and Camilla have complained to KCIII about Bulliam’s lack of work ethic. As the old saying goes, a leopard never changes its spots.

      • jais says:

Anne is going to need to accept the fact that yes she will be doing the majority of the investitures until she dies despite William presumably living at most 15min away.

    • Unblinkered says:

      @LadyDigby couldn’t agree more,

“So far as a working member of the RF he has been a constant disappointment. He let the entire nation down on Friday by not attending the VJ Commemoration”.

  22. Tuesday says:

Ok, Carole. We know you’re lurking. Kitty better show up to the state dinner and she better knock em dead, or the Waleses are cooked, as the kids say.

Bill and Cathy aren’t doing enough. They better show up more or the press is going to eat them alive.

    • Lady Digby says:

@Tuesday I have been wondering about how much they’ll be involved in the Trump visit? Will it be a good day or days for Kate or not? Will loved getting his head patted by Trump in Notre Dame so surely he’ll want a selfie with the Orange One?

      • BeanieBean says:

Oooh, maybe the Waleses will get stuck with the airport run again!! 🤭. That’ll be fun!!

    • jais says:

Pics of Melania and Kate side by side would be something.

      • Jaded says:

Well Kate’s certainly been reading pages from Melania’s “How to be a great first lady” book by doing utterly fuckall.

      • Isabella says:

Hard to imagine 2 more useless public figures. They’re nearing Imedla Marcos levels of entitlement, complete with closets choked with designer goods. From Wikipedia: Marcos and her family gained notoriety for living a lavish lifestyle during a period of economic crisis and civil unrest in the country. She spent much of her time abroad on state visits, extravagant parties, and shopping sprees, and spent much of the State’s money on her personal art, jewelry and shoe collections – amassing 3,000 pairs of shoes.

      • BeanieBean says:

FYI, the Marcoses moved to Hawaii after Ferdinand was deposed. (A friend went to high school with Bong Bong.). Hawaii’s State Museum of Art used to have a permanent exhibit of the casts made of the Filipino jewelry–state jewelry that hasn’t been seen since the Marcoses left. All that remained were the casts taken.

    • Christine says:

I think they aren’t going to show up and the press will spin it as refusing to show support to the orange menace, as if they are sticking up for the rest of humanity. That feels like something they would do.

  23. eastern sierras says:

Someone made this comparison on the original post featuring that picture of Kate at the early years storyboarding event (or whatever it was)– scrolling through this post, that last pic truly was an MC Hammer cosplay jumpscare.

  24. Kit says:

Jane, 100 percent William.always wanted out and Harry got out and is doing well , there lies the problem.

  25. Al says:

Lol! Enough with the faux outrage. One picture from William, Kate, and the kids and all will be well again. The royal reporters will turn their attention back to criticizing and trying to sabotaging Meghan. This will happen right about the time WLM2 drops on Netflix.

    • Lady Digby says:

Fair comment @AI still it made me chuckle reading Liz and Amanda both read the lazy duo the riot act! Facts are facts and the annual totals for working Royals are revealing the truth about the lack of output. One day Will becomes King with constitutional duties and he will be answerable to the current PM of the day if he holds up Government business by not signing off assent to Bills etc., These are warning shots that he’d do well to heed🤷 but given he’s stubborn and stupid, he won’t 😂

    • Tessa says:

The trotting out of the kids does not work for all

  26. Blujfly says:

Richard Palmer or Tom Sykes made the point that Kate’s over the top reaction to the infamous Tatler article really displayed how used to and entitled she and William feel to only good press. I think the press has been under immense pressure from the Palace to not report on the Greek trip and god only knows what else. So when the Mail came knocking about the Wales moving, were lied to, lied to other reporters, and then the Sun got the exclusive, it was time for the Mail to knock them down a peg or two and remind them where their bread is buttered. The Mail must have really put their noses out of joint to have them leak the exclusive to The Sun, the same paper that originally carried the “rural rival” story.

    • Lady Digby says:

The Fail are just reminding them of the “you pose we pay” arrangement. Will was quite happy to have Jason feed the beast with made up crap about Meg and Harry. Well the beast needs to be fed on a regular basis and them doing a Greta Garbo and wanting to be alone ain’t happening.

    • SURE says:

Maybe The Scum had some “incriminating” photos from WanK’s Greek odyssey which KP killed by offering up the FL exclusive.

  27. slippers4life says:

I agree with others. They’re yanking the chain to tell them to get back out there so they can sell papers. Come Monday it’ll be flooded with how selling flower sprinkles and rose disrespects the Queen, which is way worse than doing no work and accepting millions of dollars from tax payers for an emotional support mansion while evicting the neighbours! Whatever! You all know WLM is just proof how perfect of a modern day princess Meghan could be and you’re pissed you’re left with a secretly separated couple you can’t say shit about while you fund the whole thing! They know it, the Sussexes know it and so does Oprah and Tyler Perry.

  28. BeanieBean says:

OK, Brits, help me out here, what’s the b-word in this sentence: ‘at that age where you start to see clearly the difference between duty and loyalty and pointless b******s’ foisted on you in the name of good form, etiquette and keeping other people happy.’ ?????

And what does the following sentence mean, did the previous one provide context? ’cause I didn’t get it: ‘She will care less and care more about having a balanced life.’ How does ‘care less and care more’ follow? How does one ‘care less and care more’????

  29. Me at home says:

Liz Jones and Amanda Platell aren’t rota, are they? So they’re carrying the water for the rest of the rota, who can’t say what they’re really thinking on pain of losing access.

    • Blujfly says:

The Mail is rota but yes, they are not the royal editor or reporter, so it gives Rebecca English cover to say they are columnists and this is their opinion. But Platell once wrote at length about how KP pulled her over for a quiet word about how she had Kate all wrong after Platell criticized her before the wedding.

  30. Maja says:

It is understandable that no one can tolerate media control to the extent that HuM had to experience. After all, that was one of the main reasons why they left. Another reason was that no one criticised and countered the many falsehoods and misogynistic and racist slurs that were in the press every day, especially about Meghan since she joined the family. Neither the family nor anyone else felt that public protection for Meghan was necessary. On the contrary.
The heir to the throne and his wife have never been harassed in this way. Nor have they ever been subjected to the insults and vulgarities that have befallen Meghan and Harry. The heir to the throne has a law firm that is funded by the taxpayer if they don’t like something. HuM pay themselves.
The heir to the throne, although privacy would certainly be better for this family, cannot remove himself from the public eye. If he and his wife only want isolation, he can’t do this job.
