One of the weirdest phases of Katy Perry’s career was when she was suddenly super-cozy with King Charles out of nowhere. That coziness even led to Katy getting an invitation to Charles’s coronation, and she was one of the headliners of the coronation concert in 2023. Charles actually asked British artists and Australian artists to perform, but they all turned him down, so that’s why he had to go with Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Nicole Scherzinger as concert performers. The concert was widely panned and, in my opinion, the whole “coronation weekend” was so boring that, once it was over, everyone immediately changed the subject. There was no gossip, just reports that Camilla never wanted to travel again and that William was already thinking about how HIS coronation would be very different. Well, two and a half years later, we’re finally getting some coronation tea: Katy Perry demanded special treatment in exchange for performing at the concert.
Royal expert Robert Jobson alleges that Katy Perry “caused a stir” among the royal family when she performed at King Charles III’s coronation in May 2023. In The Windsor Legacy, which is set to be released next year, Jobson recounted the “star-studded” Coronation Concert that took place the day after Charles’ official coronation ceremony. (The king, 77, took the throne immediately following the September 2022 death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.)
“Lionel Richie lit up the concert with his hit songs ‘Easy’ and ‘All Night Long,” his star power undeniable,” Jobson wrote in an exclusive excerpt obtained by Us Weekly. “Katy Perry dazzled in a gold gown, belting out her hits ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’ to the delight of 20,000 fans, even getting Princess Charlotte to sing along. The night blended tradition and flair, hosted by Hugh Bonneville, with other major stars like Andrea Bocelli adding to the spectacle.”
According to Jobson, the alleged drama began when Perry, 41, discovered that Richie, 76, would be receiving special accommodations.
“Lionel Richie, a Prince’s Trust ally, was invited to stay at Windsor Castle after the show, prompting Katy Perry and her team to demand the same treatment,” Jobson claimed. “The palace bigwigs eventually relented, but Perry’s entourage caused a stir by partying late into the night, straying into restricted areas.”
Us Weekly has reached out to the palace and Perry for comment.
LMAO. Katy brought her entourage into Windsor Castle and they partied in restricted areas? I sort of believe it, actually – this sounds like something Katy would do. And they’re trying so hard to be snobby about it, but the truth is, they would have given Katy the crown jewels if she demanded them. They were over a barrel – none of the British pop stars wanted to perform. Even Kylie Minogue turned them down, and she’s quite cozy with the Windsors! No one wanted this gig, so they had to give Katy whatever she wanted.

I say good for her- they needed her more than she needed them so she got to party in a castle for it. As long as she didn’t cause any damage, I have no problem with this.
She was right to demand the same perks as Lionel Richie. Is this supposed to make her look bad?
Especially since they apparently weren’t paid to perform? The whole event cost 72 million pounds apparently (or rather, cost taxpayers that, I’m sure other funds were also used), and yet they asked professional musicians to donate their time, labor and professional skills, at probably significant cost to them…
…and they think they make her look bad by saying she asked for lodging to be provided, for her and the rest of the staff she was either paying our of her own pocket or were also volunteering their own time and professional skills and labor?
I can only assume her crew never leaked pics/stories because the castle is probably a shitheap lol. I remember Megan being shocked in their doco at the condition of Harry’s shitty KP apartment.
Well, the difference is that they didn’t give a sh*t about Harry, so he got a sh*tty apartment. It was Elizabeth’s primary residence in her last years and Charles goes there every week, so I imagine the place is kept up.
As she should demand. Was there anyone else under the age of 50 performing at that sad coronation party? They absolutely needed her.
Didn’t we see ghislaine and spacey sitting on the thrones? Now that’s shameful.
Yes, yes we sure did see that @Jais!
I don’t blame her. As far as I’m concerned she shouldn’t have had to request it in the first place. It should have been given to her the same way it was given to Lionel Richie. Charles needed her (and Lionel) more than she needed him and that’s why he and Camilla were on American Ideal looking out of place 😂.
It’s amazing to me that these royal “experts” keep churning out these gossipy books that no one buys or wants to read. The Windsor Legacy? It should be called Pedos and Grifters. And I’m very surprised that KP did not have a wardrobe malfunction in that dress. 🫣
I wonder if Katy met Justin at this event.
She’s tacky, they are tacky, end of story
Never liked her, ever. And here is another reason why. An ego the size of Cincinnati and a shameless liar.
Me neither. Back in the day, people side-eyed me for not digging her, but 🤷🏾♀️
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that ball gowns with detachable sleeves are back, 500 years later?
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose…
Doesn’t it have a billion bedrooms? I thought it would be nice if they were finally made use of.
To be fair, Lionel Richie was a GREAT choice for the crowd they were likely to attract, and he generally does go down well with a wide range of demographics.
Seriously, old white people LOVE grooving to Lionel Richie. That was the single best choice they made in the whole mess.
