Gwyneth Paltrow got her ass out in Armani for the 2026 Oscars: tacky or fine?

Last week, Gywneth Paltrow made a point of going to the Valentino show and wearing a pretty tragic Valentino ensemble. I thought it was a signal that she would be dressed by Valentino for the Oscars, but no! She pulled a fast one and turned up in this Armani look. From the front, this looks somewhat plain – just a well-done strapless gown in a simple ivory shade. But all of the drama is on the sides – there’s some sort of illusion fabric along the side of the bodice to make it look like the dress is slit all the way up her body. Gwyneth literally had her ass out at the Oscars. Also: Gwyneth did a side-part!!!

Kate Hudson also got to wear Armani – Armani dressed very few women for the Oscars overall, choosing a less-is-more approach, with Gwyneth and Kate getting the biggest looks. I like Kate’s look – it’s fine, the color is pretty, and it doesn’t look too dated (although Kate does tend to look stuck-in-2002). Kate’s Oscar date was her mom Goldie Hawn, and I wouldn’t have even recognized Goldie if she hadn’t been standing next to Kate.

Kerry Condon in Armani – it would not surprise me at all if this was just something pulled at the last minute. Everything about this screams “afterthought.”

Wow the facelift and other surgery are extra for goop. Isn’t she talking about natural shit or something! Not with plastic surgery, obviously

    • Qzie says:

There is something weird Gwyneth has done to her face–what is it? There is something about her smile that reminds me exactly of the Grinch’s mouth (as in the Grinch Who Stole Christmas!) Yikes, it doesn’t look like her or at least how I remember her looking.

      • Elle says:

Came here to say the same thing – she looks like the Grinch!

      • Kristi says:

Pretty sure she’s a smoker (or former longtime) so i suspect she’s tried to do something with smoke lines

      • Anare says:

My very uneducated guess is filler all over her face but especially above her upper lip. In some pics you can see that area protruding, and it made her smile weird. The way her mouth moved when she talked also looked awkward.

I don’t understand the side slits on her dress. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. The illusion netting cheapens the look. Would have been far more elegant if they just sewed up the sides and made it a simple, beautifully tailored, gown. The ivory color is not doing her any favors either.

      • cws says:

Okay, yes, the Goop is totally grinching

      • Christine says:

I am never going to be able to unsee the Horton Hears a Who reference, it is so exactly right!

      • BrackenSweetwater says:

The Grinchy mouth thing is something she’s had going on since at LEAST Shakespeare in Love, it just seems…slightly more pronounced now? She doesn’t seem to have touched her nose, or if she did she kept the side profile that does NOT conform to the current ski-slope fashion. Maybe cheek filler?

And while the general shape and all of her mouth has not changed it does seem that she cannot move it, if you compare her pics from the Oscars to old photos she used to actually lift her upper lift when smiling and it just isn’t moving now. Also the space between her nose and upper lip looks…longer? But that might just be the not moving thing. Is botox around the upper lip area a thing?

      • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

I keep saying the same thing. Grinch face. That dress has no wrinkles – gurl stayed up without sitting the whole night and probably came by luxury bus so she could stand in it

  2. Giddy says:

    That’s not really Goldie, right?

    • HandforthParish says:

!!!!! She literally has someone else’s face. It’s not even too much surgery, it’s just someone new.
      Scary

      • Up In Toronto says:

Her face looks frozen in smug, maybe too much Botox. Unfortunately,.her mouth is now reminding me a little of Planet of the Apes…I’m sorry!

    • TheFarmer'sWife says:

Yikes! People can do whatever they want to themselves, but at some point it starts to look like self harm! A “friend” suggested I should consider botox for my “sagging eyelids and furrowed brow”…I politely pointed out I’m aiming for the Katharine Hepburn school of aging gracefully without any crap being injected into my face. I’ve got no problem looking my age. How come women can no longer age?

      • Anare says:

100% agree with The Farmer’s Wife. My motto is “embrace the hang-dog”. No disrespect to anyone else, it’s your face, do what you want. I just think it’s sad when people tweak their interesting faces and end up looking botched.

    • Auntie Fah says:

Goldie’s face looks like a death mask. Terrifying.

  3. Kate says:

Looks like Gwyneth was trying to bring back this version of her side cut dress:

  4. Miranda says:

While watching the red carpet, I wondered aloud: “What is Charo doing at the Oscars?” My husband had to tell me it was actually Goldie Hawn. 😬 That dress really isn’t doing her any favors, either, with the appliques and beading adding bulk at the stomach.

Kate’s dress was lovely, though, if a bit understated. I’m a sucker for structure and peplums (probably because they don’t work with my own figure).

The idea of Gwyneth’s dress is better than the execution.

    • seraphina says:

I near choked on my coffee with your Caro comment. When I saw the pic I thought to myself, Kate should do an intervention on her mom but then I look at Kate and see she is going down the same path.

    • BeanieBean says:

I’m afraid the netting didn’t hide the sun damage on her chest. I love Goldie, I do–I grew up watching Laugh-In–so I’m thinking she’s Goldie & that’s it. She’s Goldie. Untouchable, like Cher. Whatever & however she presents herself.

  5. Tarte Au Citron says:

Not wild about the bodice of Kate’s dress, but I think this was a beautiful colour on her.

  6. Mightymolly says:

Gwenyth LOVES letting us know she’s not wearing undies. This is her thing?

I loved Kate’s dress from the first red carpet peak. It’s glamorous but fun.

  7. Christine says:

Gwyneth’s hair really does look so much better without the severe center part. I hope she really looked at herself last night, but alas, she’s probably already back to the center part.

    • AB says:

Sooo much better with the side part! Her hair looked so good just in general, like softer and fuller than usual.

    • Chrissy says:

The color’s much better too. More flattering as no one in their fifties looks good with white/blonde hair IMO.
Really dislike the dress though! Ugh!
Also, WTH happened to Goldie’s face- fillers removed? She’d be unrecognizable if she wasn’t standing next to her daughter.

    • ABCD says:

I am 100% sure this is a wig

      • Christine says:

I completely believe you, but can you tell me how you know, because I am tragically unable to spot a wig, ever?

  8. seraphina says:

Alas, I too am getting older and would love to try to take some years off my face (and hips). But looking at these ladies with the overdone whatever they are doing to their faces, and it puts me back in check. They look so plastic. I know it’s hell being in the business, having to remain thin when you and then having to remain thin and YOUNG as they age, but the only ones they are fooling is themselves.

    • KNB says:

I agree. Looking at these women makes me relieved I don’t live in a world where this kind of facial dysmorphia is the norm. I’m glad I don’t have the money to address all my insecurities about aging with a never-ending series of interventions. I said to my husband last night, Imagine how beautiful Demi Moore would be if she were at a “normal” weight and had never done anything to her face.

      • Christine says:

I fear Kris Jenner’s face lift that everyone went gaga for is only going to compound this problem. All of these celebs are going to get a false sense of security that facelift techniques have progressed to a “safe” point. No one is thinking about Bradley Cooper’s disaster of a face

      • BeanieBean says:

But the rest of Kris Jenner is clearly ‘older lady’–her body structure–posture, muscle tone (or lack of), height; hands; hair; skin (all of it, not just on her face); her gait. She’s older, that’s it. I don’t know what kind of mirror these women have in their homes that tells them all the procedures & surgeries made them look 20 again, but they are NOT seeing what the rest of us see.

    • Nikki says:

      @seraphina

“I too am getting older and would love to try to take some years off my face (and hips). But looking at these ladies with the overdone whatever they are doing to their faces, and it puts me back in check”

It doesn’t have to be that way, it is a choice by these women. I get Botox about every 5 or 6 months (to lift the hooding of my eyes that occurred with age) and a small amount of filler every few years, on my 11’s and lips (to add back the contour and butterfly above the lip that fades with age. The key is a skilled injection’ist who believes in a natural approach and is willing to tell you no. My face still has movement and it isn’t filled to compensate for what is lost due to age. Most can be accomplished with strategically placed Botox but you need a knowledgeable person, preferably a doctor or registered nurse trained specifically for this.

The problem is these woman want that smooth appearance and youthful features like high cheekbones, the only way to achieve that is to over fill with fillers (result is bloated and puffy) and too much botox (results in no movement and a shiny and stretched look).

      • seraphina says:

@Nikki, I am also petrified of needles. I literally feel like I will pee on myself when people want to show me their wounds or scabs.

  9. Chaine says:

Gwyneth looks nice. Side part is soooo much better on her. Her face looks different, though. Something around the mouth, jaw maybe? 🤔

I feel bad for Goldie. She does not seem happy to be there. Grumpy, in fact… It sucks getting old and having things dilapidate, and she obviously grew up in the era before we knew about sun damage. I know she has already had at least one facelift, maybe more? Needed different dress with something to camoflauge the underarm tacos, etc. Whatever, only emphasized by standing next to Kate, who looks just lovely and younger than Kate’s own age.

  10. Mrs. Smith says:

Nasolabial fillers/botox maybe for Gwyneth’s face? Yeah it’s like she can’t smile or move her mouth in a natural way.

    • Nikki says:

That was my thought. I think the issue with some of these woman is that they don’t have this work done far enough before a specific function and go in too close to an event or for a touch up before it is needed, resulting in it being overdone. This should be done a good 6 weeks ahead of time to allow it to settle.

    • paintybox says:

Gwyneth has always tended to get a prim expression at times with her mouth – maybe it’s tension? – but as she’s getting older it can make her look like she’s been sucking on a lemon. My guess is it’s just her, not filler.

  11. smcollins says:

I swear I sometimes can’t tell Kerry Condon and Rebecca Ferguson apart, they could be sisters. I have no words for Goldie Hawn, unrecognizable seems like a massive understatement.

  12. Lens says:

When I saw Gwyneth last night I actually thought she looked softer and prettier than I’d seen her in a while. If it’s because of surgery then it’s done well. And I like her dress too.

  13. QuiteContrary says:

I mentioned this in last night’s open thread: My daughter and I were having trouble identifying some of the women actors because they’ve had so much work done. It’s sad.

  14. Amy Bee says:

Goldie can’t be happy with what’s been done to her face and Gwyneth looks like she has done some work on her face too.

  15. MY3CENTS says:

That side slash looks weird. It looks like she’s wearing grandma supportive pantyhose and it’s bunched up in places. Not sexy at all.

  16. Tuesday says:

So, I think Goldie is just…elderly. And she doesn’t look like her old self because she’s not. I don’t think she’s had any (new) thing in particular done. Age catches us all unless we die. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    • Nikki says:

Agreed. As far as I can tell she’s only had the one plastic surgery. However, in recent years I think she is using too much filler (which causes her bloated and puffy look). She’d be better served with less filler and more strategically placed Botox. I find her a bit tragic, she seems to be stuck in the Laugh In schtick from the late 60s / early 70s when she was in her 20’s. She always plays up the air head (which I don’t think she is) and hasn’t changed her look, still trying to be 20 and hiding behind her hair.

  17. JFerber says:

Gwyn’s face has unfrozen or they put back her statue from Madame Tussauds’ wax museum. Smug, self-congratulatory and looking every bit her age.

  18. GunnSof says:

Huh, why does Gywneth Paltrow look like one of the animated characters in Horton Hears a Who? Like the bitchy sister of Sally.

  19. Jane says:

    I think it’s a nose job. Weird.

  20. JFerber says:

Gunnsuf, you’re right, Gwyn does look bitchy and spiteful. I think that’s what I wanted to say, too.

  21. kit says:

hm. anyone else feel like goop’s hair was the classic recent-facework deflection? because her face looks super “new” and unsettled and those are some hiiiiiiigh eyebrows + crease. she just kind of has that thing where your face looks abnormally proportioned while the healed but fresh cartilage/swelling figure it out in those minor ways that take a while? but it could be lighting or make-up.

  22. Constance says:

I think Kate is looking a bit stretched, facially…lately her eyes are always looking like she has a very tight pony tail pulling her skin back…

  23. Beverley says:

Gwyneth is sooo bland and boring. I never understood the hype around her.

    • BeanieBean says:

Same. The hype is her mom is Blythe Danner and her dad was a director/producer. Oh, and Steven Spielberg is her godfather. That’s her hype.

  24. Kerfuffles says:

There’s something going on with her face where the distance between her nose and upper lip is very exaggerated. That happens some naturally as we age but this is very extra. It has to be caused by surgery or some kind of injections? It’s giving her a simian or Whoville look.

I’d feel bad for her. But she’s so insufferable all I feel is schadenfreude.

  25. Beech says:

The first time I saw a picture of Paltrow I thought she was lovely a la Grace Kelly. Later she was on the cover of VF with Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock and others. She was in a strapless gown and she looked like The Joker. Through the decades she’s alternated between gorgeous and The Joker/The Grinch or outright plain. It’s the damndest thing.

  26. JFerber says:

My God, her whole ass is out. I just noticed it now. That dress has a slit up to the waist. Kate Middleton must be dying of jealousy with all her “accidental” flashing. Gwen is making a (very bad) choice here. Does she still want all the attention and everyone talking about her and her “bold” choice? And she looks like the cat who just got the cream. She obviously adores herself.

  27. Carlodog says:

Yup, Gwyneth is getting a monkey lip. Or grinch lip , if you prefer.

  28. Margie says:

    What ass?🤣

  29. Jane Jetson says:

I’ve forever loved that Kate smiles on red carpets. Not saying that in a toxically positive way; merely that I find it a welcome reprieve from the other 99% who, despite being draped in sartorial art and lavalliered within an inch of their lives, look like they’re about to get root canals.

  30. jojowashere says:

What ass? Anyways she looks tacky always trying too hard. I love hudson’s dress though.

    • Margie says:

I recall her friend telling her that she a had a “stripper’s” ass. Gwen never had an ass in the first place, and when you don’t have one it can’t be out. She just seems to have loose skin back there.

  31. Barbara says:

I think the side part/darker brows are to DISTRACT from the other…………..changes
