It’s been less than three months since Brooklyn Beckham aired out his family’s dirty laundry. January 19th of this year, Brooklyn posted a series of Instagram Stories where he went on the record and detailed the reasons for his larger falling out with his parents. I was on Brooklyn’s side, and I’m still on his side. I don’t think Brooklyn is going to change the world with his hot sauce empire, but I appreciate the fact that he’s standing up for himself, his wife Nicola Peltz and their marriage. It’s the most grown-up thing he’s done, and you can tell that his parents don’t know how to react because their response, for months now, has been variations of “27-year-old Brooklyn needs to leave his wife and come back to mommy and daddy!” After the initial rush of tabloid BS, it’s actually been somewhat calm around the Beckham situation for the past month or so. I suspect that Brooklyn has just cut off all communication with David and Victoria, and they’ve stopped trying to talk to him via the tabloids or social media. Well, The Cut has a long-read piece about the Battle of the Beckhams, and there’s some new info in here. Some highlights:
The 2022 Peltz-Beckham wedding: It was a luxury fairy tale, perfectly planned and executed — until the vows, when the elderly rabbi called Brooklyn “David.” He stuttered and asked for forgiveness; he was a soccer fan, the rabbi said. He made the mistake only once more before the ceremony was over. It was, as one witness described it, uncomfortably Oedipal. On the brink of his new life, during his moment in the Florida sun, Brooklyn still couldn’t get away from his dad.
Peltz vs. Beckham: The two dynasties in this saga may seem equally matched. In fact, they are worlds apart: While the Peltzes don’t have the notoriety of their in-laws, they are estimated to be almost three times as rich; their fortune makes the Beckhams look middle class. They have political connections to the elite within the elite. The clash is a distinctly modern parable about the only power sources that matter anymore — money and clout — and which one inevitably wins. At its center is a chronic failson who ironically has never been more famous. “Everybody in Palm Beach is on the Peltz side, obviously,” R. Couri Hay, the society publicist, tells me. “But I’m afraid Brooklyn may have just substituted one daddy for another.”
The performance of Brand Beckham: “‘The children, the children’ — it’s such a part of the narrative,” a person who once worked with the family says. “David as a family man, Victoria as a mom. Victoria and David love their kids. But there is a reason why Harper is always somewhere near David’s side. That picture works. And they know it.”
Nicola is the favorite child: Nicola, 31, is not the youngest Peltz child; her twin brothers, Zach and Greg, just turned 23. But she is the undisputed favorite, her model mother’s “mini-me” who inherited her delicate, elfin features and light eyes. She often posts an old photo of Claudia putting lipstick on her as a young girl standing in the aisle of a private jet. “The entire family revolves around Nicola. The brothers follow her everywhere,” someone who has spent time with the Peltzes told me.
Nelson Peltz invested in Brooklyn’s business: In turn, the Beckhams all gathered at a London Whole Foods to support Brooklyn’s next food-fluencing venture: Cloud 23, a high-end hot sauce in a “sexy” bottle named for one of David’s football-jersey numbers. Nelson gave him more than business advice; he ultimately invested in the project along with Brooklyn’s father.
Brooklyn’s name rights: Brooklyn’s statement listed a few new [grievances], including that his parents had attempted to “bribe” him into signing away the rights to his name on the eve of his wedding. “My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since,” he claimed, referring to David’s Authentic Brands Group deal. (A source with knowledge of the situation says this was a standard “co-existence agreement,” freeing him, instead, to sell his own Beckham products without fear of a lawsuit. “The deal was already done; it didn’t influence the payday,” the source says.)
Victoria’s inappropriate dance with Brooklyn at his wedding: The Beckham camp is adamant that the last part is utterly untrue. “It absolutely wasn’t like that,” the source close to the family said. “David and the rest of the siblings joined quickly after. It was a fun, light moment.” Gordon Ramsay took to The Sun to say he saw nothing “salacious” or “inappropriate” at the wedding. On the other hand, DJ Fat Tony, who played at the after-party, came out on British daytime TV to back up Brooklyn. Though he insists he witnessed the dance, a person at the wedding told me he wasn’t in the room for the alleged faux pas. Other guests I spoke to said if there had been an uncomfortable dance, they didn’t hear about it or see it. Peltz Beckham sources say they have a video but will never show it.
Everyone agrees that Nicola cried at her wedding: Nicola did run out of the room crying — there is no doubt on either side that she was offended by something during Anthony’s appearance. “It was obvious that Nicola couldn’t bear Victoria being onstage rather than her,” says the same source close to the family. And even if she had felt slighted, is it something to hold on to for years? Sources close to the Beckhams claim they consistently offer to meet Brooklyn and Nicola in any way they desire — with lawyers, the Peltz parents, siblings, a therapist, a mediator — and are desperate to repair the relationship. Peltz Beckham supporters say Victoria and David have always had an unhealthy obsession with fame, and the dance was indicative of their inability to let anyone else be the center of attention, even for one night.
Brooklyn is freeing himself: “Those kids were trained to pose in photos before anything else,” the person who worked for the family says. Now Brooklyn has used Brand Beckham’s own playbook — managed engagement — to free himself. When reached by New York, a spokesperson for the couple said, “Despite repeated attempts to find common ground and satisfy family expectations, the cycle of false narratives has persisted. They know their truth, and if others prefer to prioritize tabloid reports over reality, they are at peace with that and are simply done answering to it.” Representatives for David and Victoria Beckham declined to comment.
Brooklyn is simply happy with Nicola: For the moment, Brooklyn seems content to live as a nearly full-time wife guy. Nicola bought them a new $16 million house in Beverly Hills in 2024. They have been vacationing in Montecito and drinking $2,000 bottles of wine. The hostage situation, if it is one, doesn’t seem so bad. Though Brooklyn has some paid appearances in his schedule, like cooking for an Airbnb experience and attending a restaurant opening in Las Vegas, I’ve heard he mostly drives Nicola around. When she travels for filming, he goes with her. Someone who recently worked an event with him said he was sweet but left as soon as he could: “Dude is in love. He was like, ‘I have to go hang out with my wife.’”
That last part is important – this family beef has been treated like everyone is jockeying for position and it’s all about power and money. When the simple truth is, in my opinion, that the root of the Beckhams’ anger towards Brooklyn is that he’s in love, and his wife and marriage are his biggest priorities now. He’s thrilled that he’s with someone who doesn’t need him to be the breadwinner or the hustler. He WANTS to drive Nicola around and cook for her and take care of their dogs. He’s living his dream life. And his parents can’t stand that Brooklyn is content to be a house-husband and hot-sauce guy.
This is insane, btw: “It was obvious that Nicola couldn’t bear Victoria being onstage rather than her…” AT NICOLA’S WEDDING! The bride was mad that the mother-of-the-groom was called “the most beautiful woman in the room” and that Victoria grinded on Brooklyn during a wedding dance. Victoria is out of her f–king mind.

I don’t really have a horse in this, but it is always interesting to me is how they frame men who cut off their families versus women. The men are always framed as these incredibly gullible, naive, awestruck simpletons that just couldn’t help but being a snared by the wiles of their partner. Where women are always these horrible harpies, who are selfish, and ruthless, and would climb over your skeleton to get to the top of the heap.
It really hit me at the end where they describe him being in love, being comfortable with his wife being the breadwinner and the one who wants to be out there, and him just hanging out with her and at home as some sort of oddity I suppose because of his masculinity. This is the same way that they described Harry in that Vanity Fair article, where they said he’d like to just do charity work and let Meghan earn all the money. It’s always framed as if that somehow lesser if the man is doing it.
ETA- agreed about The Cut. Their reporting is just better polished tabloid snark.
Agree 💯 about The Cut being better polished tabloid snark.
I will never get over The Cut’s interview with Meghan, when she let them into the Montecito house and they were snarky and condescending.
Ever since then I see The Cut as an extension of British tabloids with better writing. This confirms it.
Beckhams have their side of the story all over the tabloids and now in The Cut as well.
Maybe if they stopped trashing their son for a minute, it would help the relationship
Brooklyn wants to live his life following his values and priorities. With his marriage and his wife being a top priority.
What. A. Dick. /s
The shamelessness of these people is astounding!
He is making educated decisions about how he wants to live his own life – based on his lived experiences and his values. He’s known non stop fame and paps and all that. He has chosen something different and people are appalled. Fame and money are everything to them. And choosing love and stability and self is not something they can relate to, understand or accept.
I feel for Brooklyn. I really really do.
I’m going to have to respectfully but strongly disagree with this. The Cut is one of the last remaining magazines with enough financial backing to attract the strongest reporters of a generation and to tackle often out-of-left-field investigative reporting.
Regarding the profile of Meghan, specifically: the writer (Allison P. Davis) is a brilliant, award-winning writer (who also happens to be black, lest the knee-jerk reaction to her Meghan profile is “racism”). And speaking of that profile: it was perfectly balanced and fair, based on the writers observations with having spent time with Meghan and her family. The “snark” you speak of (which honestly, was limited in this piece) has more to do with The Cut’s signature editorial style than with the subject. I would hope that Meghan’s comms team (at the time) would have done their due diligence to research the outlet and the author before committing to a sit-down profile. That’s on them. But again, I think it was actually a fair, illuminating (and not unflattering!) piece.
At the very least I think we can all agree that we don’t think that the British press-style “embiggening” and puffery we see being lavished on the royal family should be the journalistic norm. Rant/over (as someone who works in journalism, it’s maddening seeing The Cut equated to British tabloids).
yah, I found this piece to be way too slanted towards D&V-they didn’t do anything wrong, Nicola is spoiled, etc.
“They have political connections to the elite within the elite.”
I know this is rather uncharitable of me, but given that her family is apparently MAGA, and it’s Palm Beach, I can’t read that sentence without thinking, “right, so…Epstein files?”
Probably? They’re personal friends of Trump, which is part of why I still maintain this kid has gone from one narcissistic family unit to a different one, and married a version of his mother.
These quotes that the family revolves around Nicole and her brothers just follow her everywhere are not normal, but that’s how his family was structured growing up, so?? I’m not going to ever be team super maga billionaire family, but I’m also not team Beckham either because they’re clearly crazier than I thought.
What im more surprised about is the fact that 21 year old Cruz has been dating a woman a decade older than him and that seems to be largely ignored.
Her other public relationship that I know something about was also with a younger guy. I can’t remember who it was? A Hadid brother? But she was early/mid 20s and he was in his teens. I think that’s on the weird side too.
Funny how the women are always the bad ones. So uncommon
It’s like people believe everything they see in old movies with Barbara Stanwyck or Bette Davis playing a scheming woman. Or even on today’s soap operas.
Hmmm, from what i can tell when I read this yesterday, part of the premise was that the Beckhams have to hustle for their brand while the Peltzes do not. Bc the Peltzes have insane amounts of money. So in that way, it suggested that Brooklyn doesn’t have to hustle anymore either as long as he’s with Nicola, makes her happy and the new “daddy” is happy as long as Nicola is happy. Which it’s all about interpretation. Some will see it as Brooklyn just swapping out one controlling family for another, which sure. But at the end of the day, if he’s happy with Nicola and they’re good, then that’s his choice. And they seem happy together? There was also a lot about the DM writer Katie Hind’s relationship with the Beckhams while the article called tmz team Peltz although no one journalist was named.
Should there ever be a divorce, this will get interesting. If its ugly from the Peltz side Brooklyn will then be in no man’s land. His family will be smug and the Peltzs loyalty will be no more. Poor Fellow!
I hope there is no divorce. And show up his parents.
I feel like that’s what the article is suggesting. That Brooklyn is only good so long as his marriage is good which sure. But it feels like one of those things where people on the Beckham side are almost rooting for it to fail. He seems pretty happy where he is. Aside from the fact that no one really knows what any marriage is actually like.
whenever i remember TMZ is owned by Fox, i always assume TMZ is maga-leaning or with sources
Victoria is out of her f*ing mind. Clever wordplay, Kaiser 😉
I genuinely cannot believe that anyone is buying what the MAGA-Peltz fam is selling, but w/e.
Thank you for this comment. I also don’t understand the impulse to take all of Nicola/Brooklyn’s claims at face value, but to question everything coming from the Beckham side. Sometime’s the easiest explanation is the right one: maybe Nicola is a pill–not hard to believe when considering who her dad is. This quote alone about her wedding planner tells you a lot about who she is:
“Fire Preston’s assistants,” Nicola wrote. “Cut them off … I hate them.”
No parent who actually cared about her child as an individual would want his marriage to fail. Even if she didn’t particularly spark with the bride. Every time someone frames this as a struggle over who is the centre of attention, it’s a red flag. It’s belittling to the person with the legitimate beef, who holds the principled objection. And that… is Nicola. By a long way. Victoria’s behaviour at her wedding was… tacky, try-hard, and bizarre. But the ensuing press campaign has all the fingerprints of the Middletons’ frantic drive to get their side of the story out before the papers can speak to the woman who fled the scene in tears, at her own wedding. It’s just like Meghan. She needed to be painted as a villain, to spike the story.
And he also substituted Mom Victoria… now he has Mom Nicola.
Brooklyn is doing what he wants to do. Even if it turns out to be a mistake, it will be his own mistake, rather than his parents’ mistake.
He is 27, not 12.
a standard “co-existence agreement,” freeing him, instead, to sell his own Beckham products without fear of a lawsuit. Wow, that’s what they learned from monarchy against their own child…
