As we discussed, this year’s Trooping the Colour saw yet another steep decline in interest, viewership and attendance. The big “tell” for the declining interest is that the British media can’t summon the courage to talk about television viewership or attendance numbers. It also felt like broadcasters and photographers were heavily discouraged from showing wide shots of the sparse crowds outside Buckingham Palace, not to mention wide shots of that sparse AF balcony.
In addition to all of this ambivalence, Republic’s anti-monarchy protesters turned up at Trooping. Republic has ramped up their protests in the past four years, and basically those yellow signs and “Not My King” chants have become part and parcel of every big royal event nowadays. Well, the Princess of Wales is quite irritated that Republic protesters would dare to boo HER and her children. A clip of Kate icily glaring at the protesters has made the rounds all over the place. Even British outlets like GB News and The Sun are covering it.

The British royal family and British media blithely opened Pandora’s Box, didn’t they? They thought they could encourage people to boo the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, that they could throw Harry and Meghan to the wolves and that those wolves would never turn on them. Once the left-behinds made it clear that they protests and boos were welcome, they opened themselves up for all of this. I imagine we’ll get a fresh emotional-support poll by Thursday. Nevermind Kate’s White Walker glare, she’s the most popular royal ever, we swear!

Bwahahahaha 😂😂😂
Check out this tweet, everyone. Crowd is tiny, and the Not My King people are front and center ha ha ha ha!
https://x.com/ShakeLS/status/2066338300751733102
Hahhahahah just what they deserve.
There should be more not my king signs! How much did this stupid pageant celebrating the continuing grift cost the British taxpayer? Heck, the boring, racist, lazy leftbehinds aren’t even a tourist attraction anymore. Tbh, I thought Khate looked more like she was going vomit….
Time for the RF to see what its people feel about them. Open your eyes.
She should have thought of repercussions for the way she.and her husband treated the sussexes
.She and her husbands constant vacations and little work is a factor too
Indeed. This is the true definition of be careful what you wished for. The Windsors wanted H&M to be mocked and booed wherever they went, but karma will always do its thing. You would think these people would take a look in the mirror by now.
Kate’s glare said it all. If she could have gotten those protesters hung, drawn and quartered, she would. She seriously belongs in the 15th century, not the 21st.
What was Kate supposed to do? Blow them kisses? Of course she wasn’t happy that she and her children were booed. The children can’t control what family they are born into and aren’t responsible for the adults’ behavior.
EXACTLY.
A lot of people on twitter are pointing out that when the royal family decided to spend all their efforts on monstering Harry and Meghan and creating a worldwide hate campaign with their media sycophants, propaganda, and paid-for social media bots,
they brought this storm of rage on themselves. They have normalized this kind of pushback against the royal family, precisely at the wrong time in their history–when they are scandal ridden and the next couple in line to the crown are the dumbest and laziest the public has ever seen.
And I am so here for it. They are rich parasites who only appeal to people interested in conspicuous consumption and racial purity.
Maybe stop wasting tax payer dollars on these ridiculous shows of greed and entitlement and you won’t get booed.
The kids arent in a bubble ..unless they dont have access to the news and social media . I am sure darling George and Charlotte already know what is being said about their awful parents and everything that was done to keep Harry and his lovely family out of sight. So yes , high time their eyes were opened to a situation that is steadily getting worse . They will have to deal with it sooner than later . Train them to be of some use to society rather than affected little stuffed shirts battening on money they havent earned and do not deserve . Be kind to your cousins for a start . So easy to keep in touch these days . Otherwise reap what you sow ..
Tax payer pounds in this case.
Aww poor dum dums – she’s only upset that the taxpaying plebs who fund her lifestyle aren’t kissing her a$$ and she’s not going to be their beloved Queen.
Given that these protests are happening more and more if they don’t want the kids exposed to it then don’t bring them to these events. Also the kids needs to understand that the institution they are born into isn’t beloved and that its not aimed at them personally.
Yeah I had a longer comment down below about the kids but deleted it lol bc I didnt think I worded it well.
The booing isn’t personal at the kids; they are the new faces of the monarchy and as symbols of the monarchy, of course republicans are going to boo them. Protests are probably only going to increase as the years go on and it would be a good idea for William and Kate to sit down with their kids and explain whats going on and why they are being protested and booed.
But of course they can’t do that because William and Kate think its absurd that people boo or protest them considering the sacrifices they make for their country *eyeroll*
But until then, the booing is part of the price for their lives of unearned privilege.
I’m sure they’ve talked to the kids about it because the same thing happened last year too.
I’m sure they’ve “talked” to them about but probably not in a critical way, because they don’t view the situation like that. I imagine its probably more of a “those people are just jealous” talk.
William and Kate are to blame for using the kids as shields. Booing is very minor criticism and they all better get used to it.
They opened the Pandora’s box by placing Harry and Meghan and their kids in the line of fire and it won’t be reversed.
Who would have ever thought that publicly using one’s children as shields, props, distractions and excuses may expose them to harm, censure, or critique?!? How dare protesters not THINK OF THE CHILDREN…
Technically, if they’re that concerned, the kids could just stand on the balcony and not do the carriage ride.
WanK use their kids as shield – as did Charles with his sons behind Diana’s coffin. It worked out then. But it doesn’t any longer. If they don’t want their kids o be exposed to protests, they should live them at BC. There is always a Maria on stand-bye…
Exactly; the kids are being used not just as shields but swords to keep the show on the road and the riches flowing. So, if you live by the sword …
The constitutional monarchy by definition survives on succession. The kids are the future and the adults abuse that by showing off their cute kids and every turn. A lot has been forgiven and forgotten by showing off these kids and earlier generations.
“not just as shields but swords.” excellent way to put it.
Go eat cake, Kate.
I feel for the three kids who had to sit there through that, and tbh this is the first (and likely only) time I ever think Kate and I would’ve done the same thing in the situation. But yeah, the tide turning is very satisfying to watch.
At first I feel the same way about having the same expression as her until I remember that this exact same thing happened last year so this wasn’t unexpected yet she chose to still expose her children to this once again. As others have said, the children didn’t have to ride in the carriage past the protesters who are announced in advance. The children could have been at BP waiting for them to stand on the balcony with their parents.
This is awful for those kids. Their parents should have done better, especially if this happened last year. I guess Kate is only an “expert” on the early years of parenting, because she and William are messing them up.
But the media and my fans said I was the bestest princess ever and I never put a foot wrong
Poor kids. That was very sad to watch. But karma is a very real thing.
The way their pr people try to spin it, as if their mother had the audacity to turn around and look at the protesters, is a flat out lie. She wouldn t dare to. Its not in her
Weren’t they booed last year as well? Maybe she thought that was a one off and they wouldn’t be booed again this year?
That’s what I was saying yesterday. They were booed last year at this same event as well so this is not the first time her or the kids have been booed. But this time there was a clear video of it happening. And last year, right after the booing, kate last minute bailed on ascot.
@Becks – Yes they were booed last year. It is possible she thought they wouldn’t hear anything because there were clips going around Twitter showing the police moving the protestors away from the barriers. I don’t like the idea of booing children but, they are probably unaware that they are living a VERY privileged lifestyle. William and Kate should let them know that not everyone agrees with paying for a monarchy which is bleeding the country dry, while their subjects are struggling to put food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads.
From what I remember of The Republic, protesters have to request in advance to be allowed at these events to protest, so their presence there would have been known before Saturday. The Republic is at every royal event that’s known about in advance so there is no reason they wouldn’t have known they would be there.
ooh that’s interesting and explains (at least in part) why William and Kate have stopped announcing most of their events beforehand.
The only people I feel sorry for are the kids. It’s not their fault their parents put them into a situation which was avoidable.
Could have had the kids just be on the balcony but because the press demands their pound of flesh, they have to be in public more.
Actually, call me cynical but I don’t feel particularly sorry for them. Ok, they were booed..and? So what? It’s a small price they have to pay for the lavish lifestyle. I’m sure that by the time of their next holiday in a yacht or on an exotic island, they’ll be fine. There’re children out there with more serious problems like hunger, war etc. The Wales children will be fine. The only thing that this booing could do, is to make them think seriously about the future and that they are not so important as they probably think they are by their parents and grandparents.
Like I said above, its the price for their lives of unearned privilege – because at least for George, that will be true for his entire life. He could potentially have duke of cornwall income by the time he’s 18 or 21 (I forget when Charles officially took control, when he was a child he didn’t have access to the income obviously, not sure what happened to it, maybe a trust?)
I feel really bad for them. None of those kids look happy or healthy. A life of jewels and crowns and moldy castles and butlers and priceless artwork sounds great if you are not born into it, and are struggling to pay bills, but they have known nothing else, so it must be like living in a museum. Can’t really make friends, can’t really date. Not raised as equals. Being followed everywhere. Having to act at all times when in public. Having to beg permission to marry. looking forward to a future of frivolous room charming, not knowing if someone is going to try to take a shot at you to get in the papers…I would hate that. it would be like living in a V C Andrews novel.
I have sympathy for these kids for all the things you said. Those are valid reasons to have sympathy, especially the part where they are being used as shields by the monarchy. But being booed for a moment is not high on my list of sympathies. For the majority of this carriage ride, they were cheered heavily with people waving flags. I said below that they are usually given gifts at the Christmas walk. Which is weird. So I do think it must be an odd existence being treated to such extreme adulation. That booing couldn’t have lasted more than 15 sec or so and was to be expected as it had happened the year before. And it was sandwiched by a lot of cheering.
To @monlette — Totally agree. And we really know nothing substantial about these kids, their relationships to their parents, to their caregivers, and to their fellow siblings. An extended vacation on a yacht could be fabulous or could be a nightmare. Everybody made assumptions about Harry growing up, but years later he told us how he felt being paraded around like a circus pony. The Wales kids are unfortunately stuck being exposed to their parents being booed, an awful and very public experience for a child. I don’t see Charles allowing a change in the protocol just for the children’s sake.
@Jais right. There are parts of their lives that I do think warrant sympathy – a life lived out in the press, parents who use them as shields, not being able to choose your own path in life (for George at least), etc.
But I dont feel bad because they were booed for part of a parade instead of cheered. If their parents didn’t put them in the carriages, it wouldn’t happen (but then who else would ride in the carriages? Kate and Sophie and that’s it?)
There are British kids facing a life far worse than a few boos directly because the Wales kids receive immense privilege at the expense of other kids who don’t have parent born in the right family.
So the sympathy is minimal here.
Besides, they will simply perpetuate the same system and the cycle will continue.
Harry is the only one who broke free. And look at what his family puts him through for having done that.
Agreed, I think the kids are the only draw here anymore. But more than that, I think that they children were assumed to be a kind of image shield or protection (not unlike Harry and William being forced to accompany their father during Diana’s funeral procession). I think the annoyance/ anger we’re seeing here is Kate finding out in real time that yes, people will boo even if her children are with her.
The hard truth is that the children need to know this is what they represent. The younger two especially need to be preparing an exit strategy. Study hard. Make plans kids.
George is a more complicated situation. He can’t be making other plans but might not have a job as king waiting for him. He can’t be sheltered from the protests. He needs to see those photos of paedo. He has to be ready for a very uncertain future.
1 in 4 children in the UK go hungry every night
1 in 3 children in the UK live in poverty
There are 175,000 homeless children in the UK
I’ll save my sympathy for children who deserve it.
Well, she should have expected it as well as everyone else. Times change, people don’t hold any more in high esteem or deference the royal family as in the past. What did she expect? That she would be respected for wearing nice clothes and jewellery or honouring her mother in law once more? The younger generation demands more than that. Side note: the photo of Kate sitting with a pillow (as she has done in the past during state banquets) tells a very different story of the one the rota repeats: she has serious posture problem from her excessive thinness and they try constantly to camouflage it but pictures like this one show the truth.
@First comment: I had the same thought about Kate. I also had the uncharitable impression that her shoulder blades are more prominent than her breasts. I can only imagine how her hipbones?/tailbone? digs into a hard surface; I would sit on a pillow too. That picture is sad in a way.
Waity is a mean girl to her bones this isn’t the first time this look has been caught on camera but it is the first time I remember it being news not some rota gaslighting us about festive glances or something else that is equally ridiculous.
They got the welcome they deserved especially Waity.. also they all knew the yellow signs and protestors would be there in large numbers so if they wanted to protect the children they should have had them enter quietly, not in the carriage but she didn’t.
She had the same icy glare at Meghan when Meghan and Harry were seated in the church for the Queen’s Jubilee and when she lunged at Meghan during the walkabout after the Queen passed away. This is who Kate is. Her mask slips often, it just the media refuse to admit it.
I totally agree. If Kate had had any sense she should have carried on smiling and waving, and ignored the protesters. It would have created a far better impression. Instead she does what she always does – behave like a mean girl. This time the press noticed.
Charlotte definitely knows what’s up. I feel bad for the kids because you can’t help the family that you’re born into, but I’m glad that the protestors went forward with booing regardless. They need to see how people really are viewing the monarchy, and their parents need to realize having the kids with them won’t spare them. They started bringing those kids everywhere as buffers but they are too old now for people to be swayed.
This is what the second, third year that they have been booed at trooping? They were booed at Commonwealth day earlier this year. They frequently have visits where there’s no one behind the barrier. And the crowds at events like this are getting smaller every year. All the tight shots, sycophantic articles, and polls in the world won’t let them ignore what’s right in front of their faces.
Even here they are being used as buffers in the press. The original headline was about Kate’s icy glare at the protestors and then it was changed to a headline about her and the kids being protested? Why change the headline? To evoke sympathy and to use the kids to get it.
They changed the headline as likely they were told to by KP – they are hiding behind the kids to play their usual ‘poor us’ game. The criticism of the Wails has been getting louder and doesn’t look to be letting up.
I fully expected to see Peggy over at the World Cup at some point this month – Waity has Wimbledon coming up and we can’t have Pegs missing out on some football when she has tennis now can we.
People have a right to protest and a right to see how their taxes are being wasted. They don’t seem to be hurling insults or eggs – they are holding signs and chanting in a public place during a public event.
The royals/rota are going to try and frame this as “Mama Bear Kate protects her kids from the meanies who are trying to ruin their special day!”
Yeah, this is my feeling. People have the right to protest. And honestly, for the majority of the carriage ride they were being cheered. Most of the time when they’re out at those Christmas walks, they’re being given gifts. So here we have maybe 15 seconds of them witnessing boos while the rest of the times they are cheered and gifted. I think they’ll be alright.
THey should stop accepting gifts. Not a good look for them, the kids now accept gifts.
I’m sorry, that hat is ridiculous.
Current government are looking to make cuts to divert funding to defence. RF funding and accommodation/ landholdings also need pruning and reviewing. PoWs stated commitment to “working” as little as possible needs to be factored in when funding is allocated. Will and Kate will get booked aplenty if UK is once plunged into austerity whilst they continue to live high off the hog but barely work. Funding them or redistribution of funding defense, education, NHS. Are they essential workers or not? Is UK lesser without it’s monarchy or more equitable if we have an elected head of state?
In previous years, she smiled through it, didn’t look at them and distracted the children, so this was another scheduled and rehearsed choice.
Yup, I’d say so. They could have looked at the other side of the road and just kept smiling and waving. They knew what was coming, so it does feel intentional.
Yeah, it’s interesting right? Why not just smile and wave in the other direction? Prepare the kids to do the same. That would be a more graceful and prepared reaction. Instead she’s glaring daggers at people who have the right to protest and modeling that behavior for her kids to do the same? Not a good look. Choices are being made. She looked at those protestors like they were Meghan or something. Flashbacks to her glaring at Meghan in a church or lunging at Meghan on a walkabout. Can she not have some grace here, especially considering the lifestyle she and her kids enjoy? Apparently not.
This woman’s fault her children were subjected to the boo’s. What on earth would make her think her children would not be caught in the crosshairs? The objective of the protests is the downfall of the monarchy, a part of her children’s heritage. Zero sympathy for her or the children. This is reality not a fantasy.
Right. If you’re a republican, and you want the monarchy to end, of course you’re not going to be a fan of George, who is being presented as the future of the monarchy. You don’t want there to be a future.
The adults would have had a security brief prior to the parade. They knew this and still brought out the kids.
This is the second year that this has happened to the children, they have probably learned the lesson now, A sizable minority think the RF is a waste of money.
It’s so interesting to me that Kate doesn’t just smile and wave and coach the kids to do the same. Kill em with kindness and all that. I bet she’s going to need quite awhile to recover from all this negative attention.
The paedo Andrew photos 🫢 The protesters aren’t messing around. Makes me want to grab a flight and join them. #justiceforVirginia!
Kate’s mask slipped. It was interesting to see some of tabloids report on this. Usually they ignore these type of stories about Kate.
Kate brought her Thunder Face for this event. Better get used to it girl!
That top photo looks more like she’s about to cry than an icy glare. I feel bad for the kids, but after 10 years of chasing the crown and 15 years or so living for the crown, she knew this was part of the deal. If Meghan knew what she was getting into (she did NOT), then Kate DEFINITELY did!
That’s what I thought too, it surprised me to see so many read that as a glare. Her expression struck me as wary, deliberately trying to repress nervousness, and to be absorbing the visual information rapidly while attempting to minimize emotional displays. So the story to me is what does it mean that the grinning Facade broke, why here and now? Otherwise my thoughts are that those children should be being prepared for a rapidly changing world, and while I hate seeing children pushed out for PR purposes, I hope they’re realizing that the yes men they’ve been surrounded by are not their friends.
Children all over the world actually lived through the brutal tactics used by the British Crown, children who lost parents, siblings, relatives, so Yeah, the Wales’ kids can sit through a few minutes of booing.
My only hope would be that they would also hear Why people are protesting the monarchy, instead of whatever nonsense WandK will tell them.
They were booed last year, they could have had the kids skip it and go to the balcony only. Their parents did it for a reason, in my option. She’s a mama bear protecting her kids with her glare, is what they are going with, ignoring of course she put her kids in that spot knowing there would be protest and boos. If it was Kate alone, booed, it wouldn’t have the same sympathy. If that was Meghan and her kids, the royalist would be loving it.
A mama bear wouldn’t put her children in that predicament to begin with. She’s snarling at the protesters because her imminent future is on the line.
Feel sorry for their over privileged and over fed kids? Not me.
I have zero sympathy for any of them, the kids included. I’m reserving my sympathy for children experiencing actual hardship.
The English monarchy has inflicted pain and suffering on children and their families for centuries. The Wales kids live in luxury amid the spoils of that cruelty. They should get accustomed to the boos.
I wonder if Kate was caught in the middle of a blink, i.e, nothing going on in her mind.
I will save my sympathy for hungry kids in the UK and Commonwealth, children of Duchy tenants living in cold, moldy homes, and those whose childhoods were stolen by the colonization and slavery enacted by the BRF through history.
And even though William and Kate are stupid to put their children on display like this, I think William may do away with Trooping altogether once he’s in the Big Chair. For his own selfish reasons of course.
The kids should feel safe and secure. If their parents chose to use them as human shields to dodge criticism and booing, that is on their parents, not the critics and protestors. One of the things cults do to keep kids indoctrinated is to make them afraid of the outside world. This is the Windsor method of indoctrinating the kids and making them afraid of outsiders. See, kids, what regular people are like? We dressed up nice, put on a spectacle and look how these commoners behaved…. Cult churches do this by having kids approach strangers to recruit/fundraise. The kids get treated with scorn by strangers who recognize the cult nonsense and the kids learn to dread outsiders. The monarchy teaches members from an early age to fear independence and people outside the monarchy.
Kate made her children hostages to fortune, or public opinion, or karma, a long time ago, when she decided to do everything in her power to destroy Meghan’s sanity and her reputation whilst she was expecting a baby and newly married into Kate’s shared family. She showed no respect or even common decency. She and her kids are going to reap the whirlwind from that hateful one-sided grudge. She’s Marie Antoinette minus the ability to speak any language but her own.
I agree that the children should not be subjected to this. I thought of another thing…in this day and age, with anger mounting, is it even a good idea for any of them to be parading around in open carriages anymore? If someone decided to take them out, the children could be collateral damage.
The children aren’t that young anymore. Louis is 8 and the other two, George and Charlotte will be teenagers in two or three years. If the monarchy hasn’t been dissolved, they will be the future ‘leaders’ of the family. They need to know that some of their subjects will not be fawning over them because of their positions in life and that the younger generations of brits aren’t as favorable to the monarchy as their grandparents.
If it’s that upsetting to see kids getting booed for 15 seconds while getting cheers for the majority of the time then yeah, they shouldn’t do the carriage rides anymore. If the security is that worrying, then yeah they shouldn’t do these carriage rides anymore. Should they even be on the balcony the?
THIS! In my opinion too, she looks more like she’s about to cry! I would love to think she feels sorry for her children.
Maybe it’s not best not to ride around in horse drawn carriages flaunting immense wealth and horrific privilege in 2026. Just a thought. Idiots. They deserve every boo.
She didn’t change expression at all!
The commoner princess makes positive headlines for every glance, from A all the way to B.
Maybe now you know how Meghan felt, right Kate? With all that negative press and those lies you generated trying to ruin Harry’s marriage? And Meghan is Sooooo jealous of you, right? I hope those boos hurt. Enjoy.
No sympathy here. Should children be blamed for the sins of the adults? No, of course not. But the fact remains that these particular children are inheriting extreme privilege, and that privilege comes with strings attached. They need to learn now so there isn’t another bunch of little Andrews running around, entitled and arrogant and thinking they can do anything to anyone. It’s increasingly unlikely their idiot parents are going to teach the children to be empathetic, generous and humble adults (Kate’s bitchy glare is proof of this…the audacity! Stupid woman.) The more they are exposed to the negative as well as the positive side effects of their privilege the better, and if this is what it takes then so be it.
