In the 24 hours following the huge news of the Sussex family’s return to the UK, the royal press was coming up with fun new ways to describe Prince William’s incandescent rage over the news. Some said William was furiously blindsided. Some said that the Reverse Sussexit was a “slap in the face” for Huevo in particular. Some said that Prince William and Kate are “tearing their hair out,” or I guess, ripping up wiglets and rage-yanking that sad little tuft. Well, we’ve got a new description, courtesy of Peter Hunt. William is “apoplectic.” Whew.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will face an ‘apoplectic’ William, low favourability among the British public and an uncertain place in the royal pecking order when they start their new life in Britain within days.
Royal insiders say that the Prince of Wales will be angry at the surprise move and could feel he is being forced towards a reconciliation with his brother. The King was taken totally by surprise about the announcement when he was told on Sunday, just three days in advance – while sources said that the terms of the Megxit deal under which the Sussexes are not ‘working royals’ will be unchanged. The Sussexes’ status will remain the same, with the couple not being offered a ‘half-in-half-out’ option when it comes to their roles. But many close to the royals fear that the couple are trying to create such an arrangement regarding their royal status.
Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said: ‘In the long term, the return of the Sussexes to the UK opens up the prospect of two rival courts, William’s and Harry’s. In the short term, Harry will be able to deepen his rapprochement with his father. His presence back home will make it harder for his brother to duck a reconciliation. The surprise return of Harry and Meghan is likely to have left William apoplectic.’
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Mail: ‘It provokes a crisis for the monarchy because the monarchy’s responses are often poor when they don’t know what to expect. With this, you certainly don’t know what to expect. All sorts of things may happen. It is utterly ruthless if he did tell the King of his plans to move on Sunday.’
Mr Fitzwilliams added the decision was evidence the Sussexes were a ‘disastrous failure in the US’, after relocating to North America six years ago. And he suggested Harry feared how William would receive him and his family when, or should, William takes the throne.
‘This is actually an extremely serious situation,’ Mr Fitzwilliams said. ‘What they have done is very clearly chosen King Charles’s reign to do this knowing their options might be very limited when, and if, William becomes king. I strongly suspect that William would look very closely at their titles and possibly the titles of their children. William will see this as total proof they couldn’t be trusted for a single second.’
I enjoy Peter Hunt’s commentary because he’s usually not one to barf out the palace’s talking points. But this is wrong: “the return of the Sussexes to the UK opens up the prospect of two rival courts…” The rival courts already exist, one in England and one in Montecito. It’s been that way for years. This is the first time the two competing royal courts will be in the same country since early 2020. I do agree with Hunt that William’s reaction has probably been apoplectic.
Fitzwilliams’ commentary is a hoot: “It provokes a crisis for the monarchy because the monarchy’s responses are often poor when they don’t know what to expect…” LMAO. A whole-ass royal commentator huffily announces that the monarchy is poorly managed, not built for crisis, and unable to navigate situations they can’t control. The entire British monarchy operates like Pete Hegseth is at the helm after a keg party.

I think he’ll blame keen .
One sick puppy. Now he and Middleton will have to get off their buns and work. Boo hoo.
Thinking of Willy pulling out what’s left of his hair is bringing me great joy 😂😂😂😂and kitty wig in total disarray because she can’t figure out how she will get around not working with Harry and Meghan living there not knowing where or when they will pop up in public. I got to say ,it’s the funniest thing ever
Someone on Reddit yesterday made a really good point that I had not thought about. If William was behind the sabotage of Sentabale, Harry wanted to be close by so that his Birmingham Invictus Games go off without a hitch. If William had been planning something against Invictus, then yes, he’s probably pissed off now that he is now much less likely to be able to pull it off.
That was my thought too. Harry didn’t need to be in place for the previous Invictus Games, but he needs to be in the UK now to prevent the Sentebale Sabotage from happening again. The only thing Will-di Amin seemingly lives for is destroying anything Harry has ever had for himself, so this may be a necessary sacrifice to get ahead of the brother monster.
To add my two cents, that’s a valid point.
I too was afraid for Invictus especially after Sentebale, After the King dies William will be the head of the Armed forces which he could use to get the army to change things. He will only want it to hurt Harry, I don’t believe that he cares for the injured soldiers, sailors or aircrafts people. It would certainly mean more work to keep it up to Harry’s standards and I doubt that William would be willing to do that as well as the duties he will inherit from his father.
I thought that too. He’s protecting Invictus.
Of course TOB is apoplectic – he’s been used to having everything his own way, and Harry’s presence in the UK will put a wrench in his calculations. He will have to either grit his teeth hard and come to some sort of understanding with his brother, or he’ll spend the next year hiding in a foxhole and hoping they never cross paths.
He talked a big game about never seeing Harry again until their father’s funeral and making sure to be “out of the country” whenever Harry comes to town, but he obviously didn’t reckon on the Sussexes being in the neighborhood on a more permanent basis! This is not a man who is good at changing his plans or his ideas, and I doubt the next few months are going to be a good look for him.
I would bet that the person he’s most apoplectic towards, though, is his father – I don’t believe that Charles only knew of Harry’s plans on Sunday, I think the wording “was informed” is a bit cagey, but even if we accept that, it’s clear there were several days where Charles knew and did not tell his older son. This may be because he knew his son would leak it, because he doesn’t value his advice or input, or because he frankly enjoys keeping secrets from William as a power play – maybe all of the above.
Agree that Charles likely knew for a while. Question did Camilla know? Or did she just find out very recently? She’s always had the tabloids on speed dial.
“knowing their options might be very limited when, and if, William becomes king.”
Excuse me? And if??
Yeahhhhh someone’s getting bold, aren’t they?
“an uncertain place in the royal pecking order”
There’s no uncertainty about any of this: Prince Harry is and will remain fifth in line, Prince Archie sixth, Princess Lilibet seventh. What the RF and BM are afraid of is the Sussexes “overshadowing” Willnot and Cannot whenever they dare as much as breathe, not even mentioning leaving the house — despite everyone reassuring the adoring public it’s all about the king and his heir.
“Mr Fitzwilliams added the decision was evidence the Sussexes were a ‘disastrous failure in the US’”
If I only were a disastrous failure like the Duke and Duchess of Success, with hundreds of millions in the bank. Add to that the love and respect the Sussexes have for each other, the kids who are allowed to be kids — not some assistant branch manager of a Savings and Loan somewhere in the middle of nowhere… Yes, big failure, gigantic failure — unlike Bulliam the Incandescent Master of Disaster.
Is it possible that Harry felt the duty to return because William is about to stroke out from all this apoplexy and incandescent rage and George will need a regent?
(just kidding, but really not)
Willy attempting to sabotage Harry backfired on him. Now the citizens can compare Harry and Meghan doing real work as non-working royals to the heir and his wife’s photo op “work” that they pay taxes for. It will look bad for Willy and his wife “working” while Harry and Meghan are in town and then back to their laziness as soon as they’re gone. Also, the wife is going to have her mood board present once again in her face emphasizing her lack of style. Someone on social media pointed out that George is supposed to enter Eton the same day of Harry’s Invictus event and the royal commentators are already suggesting that they will be at Harry’s event and therefore Harry will receive all the headlines. That’s the kiss of dead for the supposedly relevant roles.
For George’s sake I hope the media does spend more time at the Invictus event. Having your parents make you take the back to school pictures is embarrassing enough (it was for me, yet I made my son do it too! LOL) without a pack of RR starving for some news/photo ops at the gates too.
The only positive thing about Harry and Meghan going back to the UK is the knowledge that William is incandescent with rage right now lol
IMO, the only positive thing about the Sussexes moving back to the UK is knowing Will and Kate are spiraling into the abyss of madness, despair, and fury.
