This week’s Star Magazine has an amusing story that could be completely made up, but is probably true anyway. Star claims that Jon Gosselin is bumming money off his ex wife with a few hundred bucks he borrows here and there. Gosselin is also stealing food out of the refrigerator and taking it back to the sad bachelor pad he recently moved into after his last girlfriend kicked him out for freeloading. I think the most interesting part of this story are the details on how much money Kate is earning for her various projects while Jon is flat broke.
Kate earned more than $200,000 for her embarrassing stint on Dancing with the Stars. She’ll make about $700,000 for starring on her new TLC shows, Kate Plus 8, and Twist of Kate. And on top of that, she got a six-figure advance for her new book, I Just Want You To Know.
All told, Kate will earn well over $1 million in 2010. Meanwhile, unemployed Jon’s income is practically nil. And he has no savings. Reveals a source, “Jon blew most of the money he had. Within months after leaving Kate, he was broke.”
Now that the exes are talking again as they trade off parenting duties at their $1.3 million Wernersville, PA, home, Jon is wooing Kate to be his sugar mama. “He asks her to spot him $100 here and there,” says a source. “But he’s not even that nice to her. It irritates Kate no end.”
Even worse, she thinks he’s sponging off the kids… “Whenever Kate’s home, she loads up on hundreds of dollars worth of groceries and supplies,” a source explains. But by the time she returns from her days away, it’s all gone!
Says the source, “She thinks Jon is taking things back to his place.” And her ex’s money woes have led to vicious fights between the two. “Kate finds it disgusting he’s leeching off her. She’s screamed, ‘Just get a job!'”

Last week we covered a story from US Weekly in which Jon Gosselin was bragging that he turned down a $500,000 offer from Dancing with The Stars. (Jon wasn’t directly quoted on the offer claims, but they had follow up quotes from him so of course he’s the source.) MSNBC’s The Scoop claims that it’s not possible that Jon was offered that much money for Dancing, and that people in talks for the show “don’t say anything about it,” meaning he’s bluffing.
As for what Jon will actually do for work, Star claims he is “looking for employment in information technology,” which is what he did before the show. His boss told US Weekly that Jon got fired for slacking off at work and surfing the ‘net for freebies all day, and Jon has claimed that he’s “too famous” for a real job. He’s likely too underqualified and too lazy as well. It looks like he’ll get his wish, though, and will soon be working a 9 to 5 in order to make his hefty child support payments.
I just want to mention how ridiculous it is that Kate Gosselin keeps saying she has to work to make ends meet for her children. She will be making $1 million this year. She has to work to maintain the lifestyle she’s accustomed to and stay in that house. I might do the exact same thing in that situation, but she comes off as entitled and disingenuous the way she portrays herself. She could at least admit that she has large mortgage payments to meet instead of making statements about how she would trade places with her children’s babysitter “in a micro-millisecond.” Except she wouldn’t trade her house, designer clothing, or the spotlight.
OMG still? with theses two? they are not even doing anything???
You know, I think that you have become WAY too judgemental….Here is a woman who is supporting a huge family, and doing it on her own without help from the government or family….she has years of supporting hungry mouths, schools, doctors appointments, ect. ahead of her, and she is right to put herself out there as much as she can to secure a beautiful future for all of them. You might not like her…or even think her foolish….but there she is standing on her own two feet and surviving.
I know I don’t have any say in what stories you choose to post on CB, but this is my hands-down favorite celebrity gossip website and I hate to see even one story spot wasted on these two. They mean nothing. They are nothing. They are going to be forgotten soon.

I know we could all just not comment on them, but even posting stories about them gives them some sort of legitimacy and more attention, which is exactly what they want and need to stay in the spotlight.

What gets me is that she might really only be making ends meet. She needs to downsize, stay on a budget and think about that she wont always be making a million dollars a year. It drys up eventually without sound investing and thats allot of kids. Unfortunately she/him both will lose it all 2 the bank before they would do that just for publicity and imaturity.
Please stop reporting on these two morons.
Let’s have a reality check in this. One million in income does not translate to one million disposable income. The tax bill alone will leave her with nothing close to a million dollars. Then there is the endless lawyers to review contracts, respond to Jon’s pointless money grubbing suits and other expenses.
Kate is smart and therefore let’s hope that with what little is left over she can stretch it for the rest of her lifetime. Because that is what we are talking about people. She is a fairly young woman who has to provide for the rest of her life and a bunch of little lives too. It’s about time to stop this hatred and try to support someone who is at least WORKING.
People do the same thing as her but on a smaller scale all the time. They say, “I wish I could stay home with my kids but we can’t afford it” but they could if the didn’t drive as nice of cars or have as nice of a house. Kate’s just making more than the average mom choosing to leave her kids to work (of course some women really have to but not all) and she’s in the spotlight so everyone judges her.
Kate has hired help for her kids, who do you thinks cares for them while she is tanning & dancing & giving interviews. She in no way is “doing it all alone.”
Her and Jon deserve each other & should co-parent. The kids deserve to be with an actual parent more then “occasionally.”
so she can shop at ann taylor yet she is always crying about how poor she is? i don’t know too many mothers of 8 who can afford to shop at upper end department stores. she needs to STFU and he needs to get a job – any kind of job. ugh – these two are disgusting.
I don’t blame her for making as much as she can. From what I read, they were dead broke when the babies were little and she has said she fears that again. People think she should go back to work as a nurse, but she’d have to work a LOT more hours away from the kids, so I can see her sticking where the money is. Also, she could downsize, but the real estate market in PA is horrible and she would take a huge loss on the house.
As for Jon, maybe he shouldn’t have spent every dime on tramps, expensive vacations and a ridiculous $5000 per month apartment in NYC. Then he’d still have cash. Oh well, he made his bed, can’t feel a bit sorry for him.
jeepers, what about all the other celebs out there working A LOT more then this lady does, why all the fuss about the time she spends away from her kids? I’m sure it’s a hell of a lot less then most stars (not that she is a star, but she is just as much one as Heidi or any of those kinds). Just saying.

It’s not her working, even in showbiz, that bothers me, it’s the crying on TV about it, claiming she has no choice but to do TV to support her kids, and that if she didn’t have to support the kids, we’d never see her again (literally, that’s what she said). She tries to equate herself with struggling single mothers, and that’s just not the case. If she would admit that she likes it, she wants to do this while she has the opportunity, and that she wants to maintain her standard of living, it wouldn’t be so, as CB said, disingenuous.

Do your research: the state of Pennsylvania provides health insurance for all the children, plus has already set up college funds for each and every one. TLC PROVIDED that house for them–she doesn’t have massive mortgage payments. She claims that she doesn’t want to go back to nursing because they work “12hrs a day, 6 days a week.” Who buys that bullshit?! Nurses aren’t even ALLOWED to work that much–it’s unsafe. They make pretty good money, too. This woman’s lying and 24/7 pity party make me SO sick. But she keeps pulling this crap because people are buying it and sympathizing and not calling her on it. Because it’s good media. She continues to stay in the media not to support her kids–she does it for her own selfish famewhore reasons. She and Jon had every intention of supporting 8 kids on ‘real jobs’ when they took fertility drugs and had the babies–why is that such an impossibility now? Oh yeah, cuz she might have to work a real job like the rest of us and maybe not have multiple nannies, a personal trainer, fake nails and hair, and might have to stay home and watch her own damn kids once in awhile. I am a-ok with Kate working to support her family, but her snobby attitude is what kills me. Her comment about trading places with a babysitter is the perfect example. She could, in fact, trade places with her sitter, at least part time. I’m sure Kate could handle spending one less day a week media whoring to instead be with her family. If she wants to be all over the media, fine, knock yourself out Kate, but don’t insult other single mothers by saying you’re struggling and you have no choice but to be on TV.
1. It was your CHOICE to have the kids in the 1st place. Not trying to get into ethics or anything, but she did indeed make the choice to have herself a litter.
2. It was your CHOICE to marry a younger, immature man that you could abuse and be a bitch too. If I were going to breed en masse I would do what women have been doing since the beginning of time and pick a man who was intelligent, strong, and capable of helping support the family.
3. It was your CHOICE to write books, do talk shows, etc, & spend time away from your kids. Yes, 8 kids cost a bunch of money, but with the TLC paychecks, all the freebies, and her media appearances, she can’t possibly be hurting for cash. Her kids aren’t anywhere close to going without, obviously.
4. It is your CHOICE not to try to get a normal job in the career that you are qualified for. She could become a nurse again, make a decent income, and perhaps take on additional side jobs if that wasn’t sufficient. She may need to work long hours, but hey, she could even be in the same city as her children!
5. It was your CHOICE to set yourself up as a poor me single mother and then act surprised by the backlash. Don’t insult my single mother – and single mother everywhere – who bust their ass to take care of their kids and oh still actually make kids a priority. My mom had a day job, a night job, & an at home job. My dad wasn’t much help so my mom had to do it on her own, and she made sure to actually spend time with me also. Yes, it’s harder with 8 kids vs 1. But my mom didn’t have the advantage of “fame”, free cars and houses, regular child support, or any sort of residual income.
PLUS – my mom worked hard and had it hard, yes, but compared to so many other parents, we had it easy. This just means that Kate has it even better off than million of single moms and dads who are just trying to survive.
Sorry if this seems hostile, she just makes me so angry! I feel like she is a disgrace to women, working mothers, and single mothers.
Also yes I have no objections to her getting her nails done or her spray tan, but again, you can’t do crap like that & then complain about how you can barely support your family. I am in no way supporting Jon but I find it amusing that Kate is making all this money off her kids yet they are Jon’s kids too. I don’t know how it would work but it just seems wrong that she’s allowed to have a show Kate+8 and make money off the kids and he not. I mean no-one should be making money off them but in reality that’s what’s happening.
Without the kids Kate would be nothing (ironically Jon with the kids is nothing). I haven’t heard that the kids have a separate lawyer from Kate (something I think her brother was advocating for) to ensure that they receive fair compensation and that it is protected for future use.

Scarlet Vixen, nurses aren’t overly well paid, she can’t nurse and support eight kids. And nurses work a lot of overtime. She’s working, for whatever reason, people pay to read her stuff or watch her or whatever. Why should she stop that to go back to nursing? Also, if she went back, she’d likely start at the bottom of the seniority ladder. So she’d likely work midnight to 6:00 two times a week.
This Jon and Kate stories are always so stupid. Doesn’t he get royalties from the old show (DVD sales, etc.) and from their previous book?
And seriously, how in the world does anyone know that he takes stuff from the fridge and takes it home? Is there a reporter sitting in the kitchen? I agree Alex. Someone I worked with had 13 kids in their family – no TV show, no book deals, no freebies. Those are the choices they made, so they dealt with it.
I was interested in the health insurance thing, and found this.
Before the show, there was some press about Kate trying to extend Medicaid’s free nurse help, because they couldn’t afford the help on their own and couldn’t take care of the kids (they chose to have) without it. She also gave the following reason:
“Kate Gosselin said she feels society has a responsibility to help with the children, since modern medicine promotes the use of fertility drugs, which can lead to multiple births.”
Personal responsibility doesn’t seem to have ever been part of her game, I guess!

I have been curious about her nursing career (in part because I’m an RN) so I just did a public search and found out that Katie Gosselin (her real name) has an active Registered Nurse license in the state of PA.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: many families with MORE kids make do with far LESS than she has, and they do it in Hawai’i, with one of the highest costs of living in the nation and they do it without govt. assistance.
She can go back to being a nurse. 12hr shifts, 3x a week in a specialty field can bring in over $100k a year for a RN. Do her kids NEED to be in private school? Do they NEED designer clothes? Does she NEED a million dollar home on umpteen acres of land? Doe she NEED all of those nannies? Does she need that weave, that plastic surgery, the expensive clothes, makeup, and shoes?
The answer to all of that is a resounding NO.

Have watched Jon and Kate Plus 8 since its first episode . Thought that Kate treated Jon with no respect from the first show , watching her in over half the shows during the interview segment punch him in the arm and talk down to him. The children showed fear in their faces when she would tell them to do something . Yet in the episode where they were buying beds for the children in the store, Kate did nothing but walk around and look in booklets for the furniture while she did not bother to control her children from running around and jumping on the beds. Jon was trying to control the kids with on success. Of course like always” when out in public she yaps away and ignores the children . The twins are are portrayed as spitting images of their mother whinning , complaining, being rude, and just spoiled. I feel sorry for the man that marries the oldest twin cause what i seen on t.v. was a brat. “Kate ” stay out of the tanning booths, hair salons, designer clothing stores and sit your rear at home and control the children before your next program airs on T.V. Will be waiting for the episode where the children have to go see a phyc. for anger management , and not handleing life on a daily bases and not expecting something. Sell the house and live within a reasonable means of life and get rid of all the fring in life , cause when it gone , its gone . You did not have it in the beginning . So get back to reality and go back to Nurseing . Then maybe you can do something for your family and have a ligit excuse to get out of the house . And get arid of all the child care and you and Jon come to some kind of agreement on how to raise the kids and put the kids first. Its getting harder to tell who is Octo Mom and who is not.
